They are part of sikhri harinder singh based out of US. Not a good guy at all. Too many controversies surrounding him. Punjab’s PDL started by him but I guess they are bit independent but I WILL never trust them.

Harinders forte is in politics and he is good at that. But when it comes to historically religious praxis, he is completey on the missionary line. PDL is a gem concerning literature and learning in the Sikh world today, as it houses so many texts that are unavaialable to the common Sikh today. For that I have to give him credit, but his misinformation on Dasam Granth and rehatnamas show him to be completely untrustworthy.

Isn't he the same guy spearheading the free Akal Takhat movement? Had no idea he started PDL and what controversies..

That was just a movement to get himslef in the news more than anything. The controversies he joined was in denying Dasam Grnth its correct place in the Panth and also changing dohra etc. He used to take SGGS in a wheelie-carry case around with him. Him and his crew do not believe in Sukhasan , chaur, etc of SGGS.

Yes, Sikhri is organization that sowed doubt about the Dohra read after ardas (Guru manyo Granth ... raj karega Khalsa...), in addition to other things in a curriculum prepared for Sikh kids in the US.

I also would like to know what the motivation behind PDL is. Who is funding it? And what's the end game?

Will they start charging for access at a certain time?

It would be better for a neutral organization, like the SGPC, to digitize documents, and make them available for free for all the Sangat. We (Sikhs in general) already pay for the SGPC. The SGPC probably already has a good deal on its Internet upload access from their HQ in Amritsar, so why should the sangat have to pay another private organization (the PDL) for access to manuscripts?

The actual dohra is the one he reads, from Bhai Prehlad Singh's rehitnama. But the Panth hasn't read it that way for nigh-on 70 years now, so there was no need to force the issue controversially.

Yes. He did. He used to hold camps in california and had to cancel most of them once there was a bit movement to put stop on his manmats. It was huge surprise to me when khalsa camp uk invited him as a speaker. He started many projects, including sunday school syllabus- which once a famous california gurdwara teachers and sewadars announced to boycott sunday school over his manmat. He is the person who likes to change stuff and test the waters of the sangat. For example- in syllabus he said.. "Guru manyao Panth" instead of "Guru Manyao Granth". He also edited Guru jees signature etc.

Harinder like many  missionaries want to make a name for himself in Sikh history as some kind of reformer.

  3. This upcoming program features Amritpal Singh, Nirmaljit Singh and Avtar Singh, who all thre  hardcore missionaries. I dont know about Nirmal Singh, a kirtania, or Harinder Singh, whether he is in agreement with his guru dhadhriwala over Amrit vela, naam simran amongst other things.

What is going with Hounslow Gurdwara that they woud allow 3 missionaries on their stage.?

    Hello Guys

I found out that the Central Khalsa Orphanage based in Amritsar requires that its non-Sikh boys who are admitted be required to grow their hair and wear patkas until the age of 12 and turbans until they turn 18 in which they can cut their hair again.

What do you think of this?

How many non-Sikhs are there in Khalsa Orphanage? I would have thought that they would only really be Sikh kids there in the first place.

Although some of these probelm are self-created,  there should definitely be more material and financial aid for the poorer Sikhs. Some farmers have taken huge oans on land they cannot repay. Some fools take drugs, and become addicts. Those people who bring it on themselves, I don't tend to have much sympathy for, but those Sikhs who are living in shanty towns and can't educate their kids, or even feed them or clothe them properly, should definietly be helped. And those families affected by the loss of family members who gave their lives in the Khalistan movement should definitely be high up on the list.

Best bet is Singhbrothers in Amritsar, where I got mine from.

IN the meantime go to gurmatveechar.com and listen to katha of ri Dasme Patshah's Granth.

Think about what you are doing. You sound really naive (forgive me) for thinking about this when your post shows you clearly have no idea.

Either buy the senchia and read them at your leisure or read on online at searchgurbani.com

they have english trans on that site, its very good.

Interesting subject you have brought it up.May I know how you got so much information about this ? From gazetteers or from books ? Pardon my ignorance about this.I have always focused on 1941 census and so i don't know what was the situation before 1941 census took place. It would be good if u can suggest some good books on this migration.

At the moment I'm reading a book by Ian Talbot called "lahore in the times of the Raaj".

In it he writes that a quarter of the Muslim residents of Lahore city are Kashmiris.

Also just for your info, the 1941 census was not very accurate either as all three religions were suspected of giving skewed numbers wherever they could.

Yeah I agree here bro, I did think that before posting it. This article isn't particularly well written for someone of Kamalroop Singh's calibre. However, I do believe his overall argument is valid.

His argument is valid in that aarti is a method of worship. However the connection to worship of Guru Granth Sahib is not completely addressed in his article.

    16 hours ago, MrDoaba said:

Do you believe that was the actual reason why Gyani Ditt Singh stopped the Aarti though - over resentment, so he went after their most beloved rituals? I think it could have been to do with the discord he had with Arya Samaj and Hinduism in general.

I'm not sure because I don't know if it was a beloved ritual. It may have more to do with the hindu connotations which some Sikh people suffer dreadfully from.

    16 hours ago, MrDoaba said:

Kamalroop also mentions his association with Gulabdasis, and from what little I know about them, it would seem to fit into his bias against ritualism.

From what I have read about his Gulabdasi past, he did break more or less completely from it. I think the anti-arya samaj stance would hold more credence than the ex-Gulabdasi past.

I'm looking to move there soon and would like to speak to or meet other Sikhs (when I get there).

Also does anyone know any Sikh organisations and groups I could join?

I would avoid those sikh organisations like the plague. They are hardcore darshan rogi chelas there and they have also started amrit sinchar without Dasam Banis.

Giani Ditt Singh ... states that that the Aarti would take place with lanterns at Sri Harmandir Sahib (verse 14), but he criticises it heavily. He mentions those imposters who wear blue, i.e. Nihang Singhs, and the Nirmale as sinners for doing this practice (verse 4).

One of the things that has always irked me greatly is that even with Sri Akal Bunga under the control of Nihangs during this era the low-castes were barred from entering the parikrama to Darbar Sahib and had to do namaskar from outside. Giani Ditt Singh was a Chamar (even though I did at one time beleive very strongly that he was a julaha) and people like him were heavily discriminated against even under the eye of the protectors of faith - the Dal Panth. This could explain why Giani Ji criticized some of their practices.

  12. Bhai Gurdas Ji

    Vaar 1, Pauri 47

Guru Ram Das and Guru Arjan Dev

Liabilities of the previous births have to be settled and the thing goes to the house it belongs to.

Now Guru Ram Das, a Sodhi emperor, seated on the Guru-seat is called the true Guru.

He got dug the complete holy tank and here settling down at Amritsar, he spread his light.

Wondrous is the play of the Lord. He can cause Ganges running in opposite direction merge in the ocean.

You get your own; given nothing cannot bring to you anything.

Now the Guruship entered the house of Arjan (Dev) who, to say was the son, but, he proved through his good deeds to be worthy of the Guru-seat.

This Guruship would not go beyond Sodhis because none else can bear with this unbearable.

The thing of the House should remain in the House.

Also this fits in perfectly with what Guru Gobind Singh Ji has written in Sri Dasme Patshah Ji ka granth Sahib. How would Bhai Gurdas Sahib have been able to write this many moons before Guru Sahib's time? This information could only have been given to Bhai Gurdas Sahib by the Gurus themselves.

chatanga Ji, I never said I doubt my gurus. I said that I find it hard to believe because of what I've been taught before and that I've never been given any straight evidence. If Guru Ji said this themselves then the conversation stops here but I have not said anywhere I doubt my gurus in the slightest.

Read Bhai Gurdas Ji Vaaran Vaar 1 pauri 46. it explains a little more on this subject:

    ਸੋ ਟਿਕਾ ਸੋ ਛਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਾ ਤਖਤੁ ਟਿਕਾਈ।

With the same mark (on the forehead), the same canopy he radiated on the Throne.

The power Guru Nanak had is now with Guru Angad was publically proclaimed all around.

Guru Angad left Kartarpur and scattered his light while sitting at Khadur.

Action seeds of the previous births sprout; all other ingenuinities are false.

Whatever Lahina got from Guru Nanak now came to the house of (Guru) Amar Das.

Having received the celestial gift from Guru Angad, the Guru, in the form of Amar Das is seated.

Guru Amar Das founded Goindval. The wondorous play could was beyond sight.

Gift received from the earlier Gurus further enhanced the grandeur of the Light.
