  2. i received this e-mail from a friend of mine... i think it applies to all of us around the world... we can all make a difference... Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh! This New Year's Eve, please go to your local gurdwara's Prabhandak Committee and ask them to make a donation to the GHANAIA Tsunami Relief Project. The project is operated by UNITED SIKHS, a global non-profit, non-governmental human development organisation. Set up a stall at your Gurdwara, outside the main door, with posters of the Tsuanmi disaster. Make big signs that say "Support Relief Efforts in Asia." There will be most sangat on New Year's Eve, and this is the best opportunity to fundraise to help the victims of this disaster. Please take this opportunity, set up your stall and talk to the Prabhandaks and fundraise for this project. It is crucially important. For information, pictures and posters, visit www.unitedsikhs.org and search "Tsunami" in Google News. Thanks, Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh!

  6. okay action number 1: dissolve the SGPC and kidnap all the leaders action number 2: dress Badal and his supporters up in hawaiian skirts, put black ashes on their faces, and send them with their hands and feet roped together sitting on donkies behind parades of dancing monkeys into the streets of punjab and then we'll think of more steps after that... :TH:

  8. mehtab singh veerjee just from reading your posts on the forum i know you have pyaar and shardhaa.. of course maryada and rehit, dharam and rules are definately important ---- without them we can't call ourselves Sikhs. in fact i can't call myself a Sikh because I don't follow Guru Ram Das Jee's initial maryada of waking in the ambrosial hours of the morning to do naam abhyaas. but all maryada, all rehit should be inspired by innocent love and in this love there should be a nirmal bhau (unstained respectful fear not like fear of a monster but fear of your parents - a respectful love fear).
  9. some singhs keep a maryada that as long as you're seperated from your kakaar you won't eat or drink anything, and as a gesture of your pyaar and shardaa from your heart you should do some paath while you're seperated from your body part to keep your mind on your guru and your responsibilities - lots of singhs do jap ji sahib if they even drop their kangaa
  10. the amrit kirtan is by the far the most direspected form of gurbani out there people treat it worse than gutkas when there is more bani there than in a gutka it is really poorly treated
  11. imho the gatra is not your kakar, the kirpan is however you keep your kirpan on your body is your business as long as you wear a kirpan and not a knife or something in place of the kirpan if you're wearing a kirpan, the type of gatra or different thing to hold your kirpan is your choice as long as the kirpan is easily accesible - on your body - for you to use - if needed.
  12. getting guru sahib's darshan is a matter of your love and guru's kirpa.. but we all know guru harkrishan sahib is right there in front of us in dhan dhan maharaaj guru granth sahib jee
  13. we all know that Guru Sahib CANNOT be described in pictures guru sahib is BEYOND WORDS AND PICTURES guru sahib is the divine light of God but just for your inspiration and reflection it is okay to check out some paintings of those times below are a bunch of pictures related to guru sahib

  16. July 12, 2004 Harh 29, 536 Nanakshahi NEWS RELEASE SIKH MEN ATTACKED IN AN ALLEGED BIAS CRIME Queens, NY – UNITED SIKHS is currently investigating an alleged bias crime that occurred in Queens (Richmond Hill), NY. The victim, 54 year old Rajinder Singh Khalsa, was walking to the Tandoori Express Restaurant with his cousin when a group of Caucasian males in their 20s began to harass and taunt the two Sikhs, using references to September 11th and aimed derogatory remarks towards their turbans, a required article of faith for a Sikh. Rajinder Singh Khalsa attempted to explain the religious significance to the Caucasian males, who ignored his explanation and proceeded to physically assault him. He was beaten unconscious and was found to have multiple broken bones, including facial and fractures of the eye socket. A detailed list of the events, obtained from Rajinder Singh and Gurcharan Singh (the victims), and Mohinder Singh (associate of the victims) of Queens are as follows: > The owner of Tandoori Express (Gurcharan Singh) and Rajinder Singh Khalsa were making their way to Tandoori Express by car (Gurcharan Singh had invited Rajinder Singh to tea at Tandoori Express). > Unable to find parking on 101 Street (where Tandoori Express is located), they parked on the intersecting road, Lefferts Blv d, which is where the restaurant Villa Russo is on. > 2 Caucasian males and 1 Caucasian female were standing in front of the Villa Russo restaurant. The males were intoxicated. > Upon Gurcharan Singh getting out of the car, one of the Caucasian males taunted Gurcharan Singh by saying, “Give me back my curtain”. Gurcharan Singh responded, “This is not your curtain. This is my turban”. > The Caucasian males proceeded to continue with insults alluding to September 11. > Rajinder Singh tried to intervene and explain that the turban is a required article of faith of the Sikhs, which had nothing to do with September 11. Gurcharan Singh took this opportunity to call 911. This action infuriated the Caucasian males present and they began to insult the Sikhs’ families. > An elder Caucasian male, who was standing by an automobile, walked over and said to Gurcharan Singh that because he had called 911, he would kill Gurcharan Singh. Gurcharan Singh noted the license plate number of the automobile that the elder Caucasian male was standing next to after this threat. This further infuriated the Caucasian males. > The elder man went inside the restaurant and 5-7 more Caucasian males emerged from the Villa Russo and began to shove, and then physically assault Gurcharan Singh, first by knocking his turban off. le='font-size:12pt;line-height:100%'>> Rajinder Singh tried to intervene stating that Gurcharan Singh and himself were members of the Sikh faith that was peaceful, but the Caucasian group then left Gurcharan Singh alone and then proceeded to beat up Rajinder Singh to an unconscious state. Both Gurcharan Singh and Rajinder Singh stated that all the assailants had something in their hands that they were beaten with.> The Caucasian males then fled the scene in their cars and left behind one cell phone, which was given to the police for evidence, along with the license plate numbers. Both victims suffered extensive injuries, with Rajinder Singh having a broken nose, a fractured eye socket and bruising on the cheeks and forehead. Above: Rajinder Singh Above: Gurcharan Singh & Rajinder Singh UNITED SIKHS Assistant Bias Crimes Director, Manvinder Singh, and other representatives are meeting with the victims, as well as contacting the local authorities involved in the case to assist in any way possible. UNITED SIKHS representatives have contacted the New York attorney general Elliot Spitzer’s office, as well as the office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). UNITED SIKHS urges that members of the Sikh community remain calm, composed and patient for all the details of the investigation to emerge and for the case to be confirmed a bias crime (as it is still under investigation). Please allow the law enforcement officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and bring to justice those that are involved in this alleged bias crime. 18. vwihgurUjIkwKwlsw! vwihgurUjIkI&iqh!! i don't know anything... i've learned the following from gursikhs in my sangat... apparently sant baba harnaam singh jee was a very loving person and he would give his love and blessings to anybody in the sangat - he was very humble and anybody who greeted him would get greeted back. however, baba jee completely ignored the person who showed disrespect to guru granth sahib. baba jee would not even come close to the person who knew they were causing disrespect to guru sahib but did nothing about it. other gursikhs have told me the following maryadas: 1) if you have more than one suroop of guru sahib, you should keep the other suroops on a sufficient size sukh asin bed and you should only do parkaash of one suroop at one time. if you consider guru sahib as your guru, there is only one guru and you should not have "side-by-side" parkash or more than one akhand paath like the gurdwaras ( *sigh* they have long rows of akhand paaths) these days. 2) if you only have the resources in your home for one area for guru granth sahib jee, you should have sufficient space, a takhat posh, and a respectful space where you would want the spiritual light of the universe to be kept  3) the house where there is guru granth sahib jee shouldn't have alcohol and meat... if it becomes an issue and you can't get rid of the alcohol and meat then you should take it upon yourself to take guru sahib to a more respectful location, because guru sahib is our father and mother, and the spiritual light of the universe. bhul chuk maaf karnaa jee vwihgurUjIkwKwlsw! vwihgurUjIkI&iqh!!
  19. some people say that originally a siropa was a large shawl / jacket that was awarded to people as an honour and a gift from the guru some people translate siropa as "head to foot" (sir - o - pao) because that was the length a hajooria and the modern siropa look very similar technically the "parchalat" (most used and widely accepted) colour of a hajooria is white whereas technically the most used and most widely accepted colour of a siropa is kesri but they've become mixed what i would say is that if some gurdwara sahib is giving an honour to some great kathavachak - it would be wrong for you to pick up one of the siropas and put it on but a hajooria is a different thing, it is a sign of humility as a begger before guru jee if you are going to do maharaaj dee seva technically you should wear a hajooria especially at the gurdwara - most gurmukhs wear it all the time these corrupt politicians need to put on hajoorias and don't deserve siropas that they get from corrupt gurdwara parbandaks other garments in sikh culture: the furlaa - blue cloth ploom on the dumaalaa (can only be worn by a nihung singh who was given the furla by punj pyare who themselves were given the furla). the kalgee - guru gobind singh is the kalgee-vaalaa dasmesh pitaa, sometimes people where a kalgee at their wedding, it's against maryada. the kamarkassa - tied around your waist to help you keep your back straight, support your posture when you walk, hold your shasters when you fight, make your stomach tighten so your back straightens so you don't get lazy while doing work.... people can use their hajooria, or anything practical. the chand-thora - chand is the beautiful olden style sikh emblem made of sarbloh that nihung singhs put on their dumaalaa - and thora is the sarbloh wire traditionally wrapped around the dumaalaa to protect from bullets and arrows OOPS GOTTA GO (parents) !!!! will type more later.. bhul chuk maaf karnaa vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!!
