  1. It was banned after few episodes.
Are you serious? I clearly remember it was very much liked and never heard it got banned. Maybe it was another TV serial. Please confirm.

You are right. It was not banned but some people "sought" to ban it. I think I just remember that there was something going on and there were people who wanted to ban it.

    see the following:

"The telecast of the television series Tamas was sought to be banned. The petitioner’s complaint was that Tamas depicted Hindu-Muslim and Sikh-Muslim tension before Partition and showed the killings and looting that took place involving these communities. Consequently exhibition of the serial was likely to incite the people to commit offences and therefore its exhibition should be banned. The Supreme Court rejected these contentions and held that “viewed from an average healthy and commonsense point of view there cannot be any apprehension that it is likely to affect public order or it is likely to incite the commission of any offence”. The court emphasised that the effect of a book or a movie must be judged by standards of reasonable and strong-minded persons and not of those who perceive insult and injury in any unpleasant or hostile version. Do you know any place on web where I can watch it?

  2. ^^^

Brotha, you need some paragraphs up in there. Shoooooooot...

    he'll be back

You make it sound like he is Jesus!!!!!!

    lol. That was nice.

There are always mysteries surrounding great ppl like bhindrawalee. People can't accept death of their heros. Like subhash cander bose...people never accepted that he died. Same is the case with people whos hero is rajiv gandhi. I know few gys who still beleive that rajiv is still alive and will come back..........only TIME has the answer.

1984 happened cuz governments dont want things going out of control. Governments still employ these covert operatios to maintain control over their regions.

People who doesn'r wanna live like slaves always die fighting for freedom.....

  3. Here is what I read/heard once. Ancient Romans (or was it Greeks? not sure again) held the belief that tampering with eyebrows reduces one's intellectual capabilities, and the person can't think straight. They were the ones who started this "doing eyebrow" tradition for women, so that women don't think and blindly follow the men.

Baki tuhadi marji. Bharvattay patt ke magar magar turna, ja sherni bann ke gajjna...phaisla aappe karo...

    Interesting.

    Any source?

I also heard it from a katha-vachak...but he didn;t provide any source to verify this info.

  4. Though I liked the article...but can u post the REAL source. I mean not a sikh website.

Guru of sikhs is SGGS ji however there are whole lot traditions associated with sikhism which doesn't make any sense to 'atheists'. I know many atheists whose questions are hard to answer regarding sikhism as they are not ready to have faith without a ture experience.

  5. ^^ I think milk is a good resource and can be used for human consumption......use of chaur sahib and palki, i think, is a different topic.

I questioned this tradition at my local gurudwara in India....people told me that I should not question if I am sikh....I was like okay... However, i saw a lot of flies (makhiyan) stickin to the nishan sahib after we washed it with kachhi lassi.

I thought we just wated milk.

  6. Love in arranged marriage exist but its not forced. Its natural.

How can there be love if the two individuals hardly know each other? It's almost like an extended blind date to me. Keep in mind, I am talking about people who have never met each other face to face until the wedding ceremony. Doesn't love take time to cultivate? I believe people who are only truly in love should marry, shouldn't they? Not because some matchmaker set you up.

I dont know if we are on same plane.

"Cultivation time" is not a requiement for "Love". I very well beleive in love at first sight. There were many saints who fell in love with their guru at the very first sight. Love is so vast that we cannot define it in terms of circumstances.

It is highly debatable that love exists in so called "love" marriages....where people spend loads of time together. Do you agree?

Love is not conditional. Love doesn't require compromises. Love (and devotion) is so powerful and forceful that it can perform miracles.

  7. Love has to be natural. One canot force love.

Then love in an arranged marriage is sometimes forced, right? I'd be interested in knowing the divorce rate in arranged marriages.

Love CANNOT be forced. Do you think that "forced love" is love?

Absense of love doesn't mean divorce.

In societies where arranged marriage exists, divorce is a tabbo.....that may one of the reason for lesser divorce rate.

I know women personally whose husbands use to drink and hit them....but they never filed for divorce.

Love in arranged marriage exist but its not forced. Its natural.

  8. A rather odd joke. Can see it 2 ways and 1 is

" It was guru Gobind Singh who said never to trust a muslim. He demonstrated this by dipping his arm in a vat of oil and then dipping it in sesame; and said if a muslim swear by Allah(Allah Khasam) the number times there are sesame seeds stuck to my arm, still he will betray you."

    or

"just a stupid joke by a stupid men"

Can you cite source of ur information?

I think guru ji had many muslim followers too....I dont beleive guru can make such generalization abt a religion.

  9. We should be happy that the youth are studying, researching and questioning. As well as the spiritual dimension, there IS the worldly dimension. Let the youth be critical thinkers. It is good for the future of the panth not bad!

You need to have the knowledge to engage in critical thinking. What sometimes happens on here is akin to a first grader trying to understand and criticise an essay on quantum mechanics.

Without faith, there is no Sikhi.

I agree with you, however, there is a difference between faith and blind faith. Questioning is a good habit but reaching at premature conclusions can be dangerous.

We should not call names, demean and stop these questions We should answer them with faith and determination.

  10. We keep kesh because the Guru told us to do so.

But why? thats what the original poster asking. isn't it?

Nothing more. Kesh are also a marker of Sikh identity that identify to the world who is a Sikh. Sikhs walk the earth announcing proudly their religion while others give no sign of their convictions.

But people still confuse us with muslims. right? Also other religion show signs. I can easily identify muslims and jew. I think they are also proud of their religion. Right?

In addition, hair and nails are totally different.

    Thats right!!

Having long nails inhibits use of the hand and is dirty with filth being stuck under the nails as well as bacteria.

    That makes perfect sense.

Long hair is quite healthy as it is even a reflection of good health: (when healthy, hair shines, when sick, it loses luster), it is also not an impediment to daily life.

I had many friends who thought hair obstructs them from few normal activities. For example eating food. Mucchha keep on coming in the way. They had to wash and dry hair every week (extra task). They had to put extra work to keep hair tidy and neat....and couple other things.

In fact, you'll be healthier if you have long hair: no body resources go to replacing the hair that was cut:

That exactly can be said about nails, isn't it?

isn't it a slap on the face when you shave and then a day later, the hair returns? Maybe it was supposed to be there!

Thats again not a very good argument as it can be used for nails also. Right?

Nails, if left uncut, will break; Hair never will

Well that just doesn't fit into discussion, everybdy knows nails and hair have different properties. Nobody is proving that nail and hair are the same. Right?

  11. When We are born, does our body have any tatoos, piercings etc, do we have cut kes?

we dont were born without a peircing on our body, nor do we have tatoos, our kes is on our heads, doesnt that ring a bell maybe god didnt want us to cut kes, get piercings or tatoos

but hey who am i to say anything, mayaa affects me the most so until i cant fix myself up no worth in trying to advise others

Why do u forget nails in ur above question to urself. Add nails and ask again, you will have the same confusion which the original poster have.

You were never born with so many things u use and wear. Why dont we wander arond naked as we were born naked?

  12. What is the point OF cutting your hair ........? You cut it, then it grows back, you cut iit again and it grows back, you cut it again and yet it grows back...................

Replace hair with the "nails" in ur above statement. You will have exactly same confusion as original poster have. :-)

  13. Okay ...I have few questions:

Is it okay to work in a restaurant who serves meat?

Is it okay to be owner of that restaurant?

Is it okay to work for a government who build bombs to kill innocents?

Also, Jains use to think about these issues a lot therefore they are all in very safe profession, trading.

Also, is it okay to buy stuff from those who use that money to promote anti-sikhi activities?

In my view you can only do what your conscience lets you. At some point your conscience will question what you do. My dad is a shop fitter and never had any issues doing doing off licence or butchers or take aways. But one day his conscience kicked in and as a Sikh he no longer felt right about accepting those kind of jobs. At first he lost a lot of trade but with Maharaj’s kirpa he got a contract with a photo/copy shop franchise which compensated for all the income we thought he lost.

Your conscience is still your's. Your peers, environment and other factors contributes to your conscience. It not something God given, as it vary from individual to indivdual. Right?

  14. Okay ...I have few questions:

  15. Regards to Heera singhs post.

Some of us have just started on this wonderful path of sikhi. It takes a lot to fall in love with guru ji therefore we need role models.

Sikhi is path of love. Only love can keep ur sikhi alive. I would agree if you say budding lover need role models.....but people deviod of love will find sikhi really hard to follow.

we need people to copy. when i posted i was thinking ok... when u are unsure about something.. then u shud think to urself.. what wud guru gobind singh ji do.. or what wud guru naanak dev ji do? .. hmm not sure u got what i meant.

No matter how hard you think you cannot decipher even iota of what guru ji would "think". Guru resides on a very different plane, you will always be in awe.....its near immpossible to read guru ji mind.

I think we shouldn't "be" like guru ji...but we should try to follow what guru ji says.Rest all is His hukam and kirpa.

    Thhanvaad

  16. I must say I didn't read all of it, but did read a good amount of the entire write up. It is a must read for people who are paranoid freaks about following things strictly and miss out the core point about love for God which is the fundamental and basic essence of Sikhi. "Fanatics" could learn a lesson from this.

However, (edited...I didn't mean to offend my veers  ). The writer repeatedly keeps on stressing on "love". I support the "love" stance of the writer, but when someone starts going on and on and on about "love", about making religion more "free" and devoid of "rituals" that lead one away from the Divine, I start thinking "whats he on about?" It gives me the feeling that he is against any maryada that exists.

WJKK WJKF Veer ji. I kind of disagree with you on the above mentioned points. You are saying Bau ji is stressing more on "freedom" and making us devoid of rituals. Then you are equating "rituals" with "rehit maryada". do you think rehit maryada are rituals? Do you follow them as rituals?

To be honest, this entire creation is in maryada. The planets revolve, the sun rises and sets, the climates come and go, the weather changes, etc. is all maryada set forth by Akal Purakh.

I think this is not inline with your argument. Sun,moon etc. do not follow "rituals", they go with the flow. They are "free" and deviod of "rituals". I think (not sure) they follow the hukam not "rituals".

The concept of maryada applies to us humans as well, especially if it is Gurujee's hukam. For example, waking up at Amritvela is hukam ( gur sathigur kaa jo sikh akhaaeae s bhalakae out(h) har naam dhhiaavai), walking on the Guru's path is hukam ( gurasikh meeth chalahu gur chaalee ). Laws are required, as Bhai Gurdas Jee says here . If Sikhi was all that easy, there would be no other faith today as all would have become Sikhs. But Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee wanted a Khalsa who could (and would if needed) give it all up. If the maryada of kesh wasn't there, there would be 6 billion Sikhs today, but we are only 5th in the world in terms of religion. No system can last long unless it is bound within the boundaries of discipline (maryada). It would just scatter.

I think aim of human soul is to meet infinity. Do you think "boundaries" can help you meet with the "boundless"? Sikhi was not made harder by guru ji to make it an exclusive path. Sikhi is harder because the aim of sikhi is set the soul free(i.e. hukam of waheguru), which is indeed the toughest task.

  17. AkalPurkh has long hair. "khoob tairee pagree mitthay tairay bole" and he wears a dastaar.

On one side we say Akal Purakh has no shape or color or creed. On other hand, we say Akal purakh has long hair. How is that possible? Can you please elaborate?

Mahraaj is using a metaphore to describe Vaheguroo Ji's form, IF Vaheguroo Ji had one.

The essence we need to take from this is, for Guru Ji, if Vaheguroo Ji had a form, it would be the most beautiful form ever known to him...this beautiful form includes Kes.

The essence is Guru Ji equates true external beauty with Kes

Guru ji very well knew that God has no form. Why would Guru ji even think of God having a form which is exact opposite to reality.

  18. Balwinder Singh, you are correct the Maharaj has no form. However, when Bhagat Nam Dev had darshan, Akal Purkh manifested in the form that Bhagat ji describes in his Bani.

Gets taken out of context some times....

I think "darshan" doesn't mean that God has to take a form. "Darshan" is something beyond that. When Bhagat Naam dev ji said:

Sab Gobind hai Sab Gobind hai....that is something like darshan.
