Reading gurbani doing Paath is not enough. This is not my own opinion. Gurbani clearly tells us: ਪੜਿਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਜਾਇ।।੧।। ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ।। And we can see this in many aspects. So many many people pray every day but still carry worries ,hate and anger in their minds. Why have I seen here many posts about amritdhaaris who are unhappy, have anxiety? No one!!! talks about Simran. Yes gurbani is wonderful and powerful. But if one only reads it, and only takes that giaan but doesn't do abhyaas kmai, simran it's just more ego. There's a big difference between reading gurbani and doing naam Simran meditation. There is a difference between reading an japji Sahib and doing Simran. Gurbani tells us to do naam Simran. And it is manmukhta,it's foolish to say that for example sukhmani Sahib is more powerful than japji Sahib. That's so wrong. Every bani is equal powerful and great! I've seen enough people making differences between baania. That's just wrong. Gurbani is the holy highest purest most truthful wisdom of our gurus and gurmukhs who met Vaheguru. They wrote it so that we can also meet Vaheguru. Because that's the goal of a Sikh. The goal of a Sikh is to meet,hear see Vaheguru before death. So the difference between doing Paath and doing Simran is: Doing Paath /reading gurbani= reading spiritual wisdom, learning that giaan. (But one must think, reflect, follow what gurbani says) and you don't even gain that giaan if you don't focus/concentrate while doing Paath. One should listen to the own voice while doing Paath, this helps. Doing Simran = washing the mind, removing vichaar/phurne (thoughts) , washing the ego haumai and sins off the mind , Simran is actually following gurbani. While doing Simran one also must listen to the own voice while speaking out the Gurmantar Vaheguru. Otherwise the andar Di mail will not get washed off. That's why many people say I can't focus when I do Simran. It's because you don't focus on the Gurmantar,on your voice . And it's also because Maya and vikaar start to run more because they want to stop you to do Simran,but you must not focus on the Vikaar and thoughts, you must focus on the Gurmantar and your voice. Nothing else. Reading gurbani but not doing Simran is like : reading the manual to build a protective house from a storm . The manual says to meditate. Reader does not meditate but only stays reading the manual, the reader thinks that reading the manual is the meditation. But it's not . In the end, when the storm is there, the reader has no protection from the storm and suffers. So when we read bani, we should concentrate and try to figure out what gurbani says. Then follow it and do Simran !!! Vaheguru. I ask for maafi for mistakes. Vaheguru

WJKK WJKF My grandparents are coming from India in a few months and they are amritdhari. My grandfather has had a leg injury and cannot walk as much as he used to. I assume when I have to sleep on the floor in my basement so they can use my bed, they will be Reading gurbani on it. I have an issue with this though. I have had nocturnal emissions on my bed, and when I was younger, I wet the bed. The smells of the urine are completely gone as it has been over a decade since this occurrence, but it is still there. I also have a layer of plastic in between my bed and my bedsheets so in case I get a nocturnal emission, it won’t get onto the bed. Will it be beadbi if my grandparents read Gurbani from a Pothi on my bed?

I just wanted to ask everyone who does naam simran. When someone do simran on a regular basis and if done properly they do get its outcome or result that we call spiritual experiences it could be anything as hearing sounds or seeing visions. I just want to ask how do they know that whatever they are experiencing is leading them to the right track. Like are there any experiences that’s the result of Kaal I know everything we experience is still a part of Maya but how would one know that they are on the right path and not getting trapped in kaal’s net. Or every experience that comes no matter what kind of is a part of our simran and is right/true.. and yes we shouldn’t be focusing too much on these experiences but I just want to make sure that whatever happens is okay and will take us to our father one day maybe in xxxx janams. And I don’t know why people don’t want to share about their experiences.. sharing can help others who are genuinely looking for help coz nowadays there’s hardly anyone who help people in true manner.

I was wondering if there is any Sikh meditation music that is about? I know some there are some western born artists like Snatam Kaur and others have made but shes not really a Sikhi exclusive related artist. And most Kirtans can not be described as meditation music as they are hymns sung using multiple musical instruments often out of tune! If we look at guru nanak devi ji and his travels with mardana music was an important part of naam simran and it was played just using sitar and rabaab I believe. The sounds those instruments make touch the soul the sounds they produce vibrate and stirs the mind into the correct frequency for meditation.

Dear Sangat Ji, this video is one of my favourite simran videos. Although all Simran is the same, some prefer AKJ simran, or slow simran, there are different styles. I really like the simran performed by Bhai Gurpreet Singh Shimla Wale in this video. Please post your favourite simran videos or MP3 links, so we will have the joy of meditating upon Waheguru Ji's name. Also could the administrators please pin this post so that videos or links of Naam Simran are on always on the top.

Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji stresses this in his simple message of Jaap Naam, work honestly and share your earnings. There’s a lot of focus on attending the Gurdwara Sahib and partaking in Seva, and quite rightly this is vital for a Sikh, however, the highest action is to Jaap Naam, especially in the Sangat. Guru Ji says that one must arise within the ambrosial hours and take a cleansing bath and then cleanse his mind through Naam. It is Simran that erases past sins and this is our mission – to make ourselves pure. One thing Guru Ji does is make things clear of how a Sikh should live and what they should be doing to merge with Waheguru. There are many reasons why Sikhs do not follow the Guru’s path or have not yet realised the value of it to fully commit themselves: lack of faith, past deeds, wrong Sangat around them, the list can go on… If you know in your heart that this is the right path to take but cannot discipline yourself to stay on the path than do Ardaas. The Guru Ji has given us the gift of Ardaas to directly communicate with Waheguru and it probably is the last thing some people think of when needing help. Often people look to other people and put their hopes in them instead of the one that gives you breath of life. I’ve reached a point in my life where my understanding for the importance naam simran is blossoming. Whilst trying to progress with my Sikhi, Maya had me in a strong grip and it still does. I’d often take one step forward and then two steps back. My mind and body was filled with lust and I finally realised that I couldn’t control it, once putting my ego to one side that is. I finally did Ardaas to Guru Ji to give me the power to rise in the early morning to do simran, to keep my mind down at his Charaan (lotus feet) and give me faith that he would take care of all my affairs. Right now I’m taking things one day at a time, that’s what works for me. I see each day as a building block and focus on accumulating spiritual wealth through Naam, Bani and Seva. If you’re one of those blessed souls who already has a high spiritual state, perhaps an Ardaas can be done purely to thank Waheguru. Wherever you are on you journey I pray to Waheguru to continue to give your soul guidance. Forgive me for any mistakes which I have made. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh.
