“The Akali goons are roaming freely even after committing heinous crimes as they are under political patronage and the police are not initiating any action against them,” said Union Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur on Sunday, on her visit to Nabha this morning. Lambasting the state police for its failure to ensure safety of civilians, Kaur said the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated immensely. “I am ashamed at the Punjab Police for their partisan role in protecting the Akali goons,” said Kaur. Pointing out that at least six murders reported from Nabha in the past three months are yet to be solved, Kaur said police investigations…

The suicide bombers and throat-slitters are not Arab Mujahedeen or Afghan Taliban. This ‘expertise’ has been introduced by the Indians and the Israelis in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The crimes of the Indian-groomed Taliban have nothing to do with the Afghan Taliban fighting inside their own country and the Kashmiri freedom fighters inside their own territory. The question is: Why is the Pakistani government continues to feel ashamed in standing up for Pakistan? Proof of Indian weapons and special-ops agents have been discovered in Swat and Balochistan. The evidence is so damning that US officials had no choice but to olige Pakistan and directly ask Indian Prime Minister,…

A growing demand in the US to allow Sikh soldiers’ right to wear turbans has received the powerful backing from some lawmakers who have written letters to their fellow Congressmen. Two lawmakers have written “dear colleague” letters asking other Congressmen to write to the Defence Secretary to allow Sikh youths to serve in the military with their turban. Frelinghuysen and Maloney said two commissioned army officers, Capt Kamaljeet S Kalsi and Capt Tejdeep S Rattan — from New Jersey and New York, respectively - were not being permitted to continue their service while wearing a turban and keeping an unshorn beard, both required tenets of the Sikh religion. The Congressme…

They faced worst kind of violence, lost loved ones and somehow managed to survive the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Now they are struggling to get allotment of flats in Dugri area for the last 25 years. The riot victims, who were promised 1,700 houses in various cities of the state, have knocked at every door of babudom to get their due. But several of them in Ludhiana are yet to get the residences. Six months ago, the state government had passed the orders to district administration to allot the flats to ‘‘genuine’’victims, but several claim the sop still eludes them. RANCHI, India (Reuters) - India's Maoist guerrillas on Tuesday threatened to kill the country's prime minister and ruling party leader in what analysts said was the most aggressive threat yet from an increasingly lethal and widespread insurgency. The warning comes a month after the government listed the Communist Party of India (Maoists) as a terrorist group, and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared them India's largest internal security threat. The Maoists targeted Singh and Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, and invoked the memory of the 1991 assassination of her husband, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in a suicide blast blamed on Sri Lanka's now-defeated T…

My country Britain is at war with the Terrorists in Afghanistan. Putting aside the rights or wrongs of this war young men from this nation are paying the ultimate price in their duty. The Independent newspaper has published this young man's letters to his mum. The letters are heartbreaking but it shows to me a person coming of age ready to face his mortality. I am angry at the politicians for not equipping the soldiers as best as they should be and also for not sending their own kith or kin and instead it seems asking for other 'sons' to make the sacrifice. Anyhow read the letters please from a son to a mother. RIP Cyrus Thatcher - you have made your parents, fellow co…
