It seems like overkill to make an entire website and create matching algorithms in order to facilitate marriage for a community that consists of about 7 people.

I think you skipped the whole thread. It is not about this website lol..  Also, Statistics of this are still real good.

Anyway, did you get married? I think your input would be good as i believe you went on the long journey and experience that you may want to share?

Do you think there's a difference in mentality from urban and rural Sikhs?

Earth and Sky difference. Large majority of urban sikhs does not support anything that is pro-sikhi including the past 80's revolution. Rural Sikhs are good but more connected to the roots; however that may not be the case anymore. Still the difference is huge. Just like urban America leaning 100% toward liberal while rural America is more traditional family & religious orientated.

Lack of empathy and support from Elite and urban sikh households toward the panth, dharam are the reasons why sikh kaum always get trampled on. That is the fact and nobody ever put focus on that area. I lived 100% of my India life in the urban area and spent my summer vacations in pind with grand parents.

  3. Please don’t turn this thread into caste and superior genetics thingy.

@Premi5doabay walay did moved large numbers to Uk soon after the era world war 2 and industrialization. However they were not moving to America till it was 80/90’s. West coast of America is mostly Doaba and malwa east coast has good sizeable Majha region.

My wife is from Doaba area but did not lived there. I go along with everyone but for some reason, my close friends are mainly malwa folks - hailing from Ludhiana, bathinda, patiala.

100% . my parents were the typical indian urban sikh family who taught me nothing about sikhi. I didnt even know about 1984 until i was 14 years old. But when i came to canada, joined twitter and started researching about what happened to our people and how we have been robbed of our beautiful heritage land and culture and seeing how sikhs are being constantly attacked in india i became so much stronger in my sikhi. Like when you know that you are attacked for a particular thing that you possess you become more attached to it. You wont believe i used to be the same dil saaf type of person that i vehemently resent now. These dil saaf peoples eyes havent been opened yet to what they are being robbed off which is why they bark all this nonsense 24/7. Unfortunately the sikhs in india dont know yet what they are being robbed off which is why they behave this way.

This is story of all Indians living in India. They are not aware of the truth. History is getting washed away on top of that.

  5. They are all same in Sikhi wise. Majha has lot of historical religious connection as being closer to Lahore. Others were developed hundreds of years later on.

80’s revolution mostly hit Majha region - Amritsar/gurdaspur and were pressed down by hakumat for 2 decades while Doaba and malwa migrated to foreign lands during 70/80/90’s. Now out of that revolution, Majha is now migrating to Australia & Canada in large numbers.

  6. This is where i always say (which many disagree) that if any pro sikh movement, person has to be mature enough and follow dharam to the core otherwise they do more damage to our community psyche. Examples can be Sikhs for Justice, Deep Sidhu and there is one heavy built guy from punjab and many others.

If one is not strong in dharam, they cannot be strong anywhere. These also include the lots like myself where rehit is not strong, skipping prayers etc. Sikh is our lifestyle and our Guru Granth Sahib ji is there to create our strong personality where we don't fail outside in any front. My two pence.

isnt chandigarh like hindu majority though lol?

Not really, it was majority Sikh dominated or all Punjabis as large number of army folks were alloted homes/lots there in 70/80's.

We talk about casteism problem but i think the bigger issue of our kaum is status-ism (Gift left for punjabis by british raj).
