  1. Badal-Modi meet a bid to woo NRI Sikhs investments? TNN | Sep 24, 2014, 01.44 AM IST AMRITSAR: The meeting between chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the PM's visit to US is seen as an attempt by the SAD(B) to rebuild image abroad to woo Sikhs and invite investments to the state and gain political dividends here. Badal, along with his deputy chief minister son Sukhbir met Modi in Delhi on September 22. SAD(B) Delhi unit president Manjit Singh GK said Badal had urged Modi to take up the issue of racist attacks on Sikhs in US, visas for Sikhs who had taken political asylum, scrapping of black list of Sikhs so that they can return home and nationality to Afghan Sikhs and Hindus living in India. GK said various rounds of meetings were held between Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Sukhbir with BJP's top leadership before arranging the final meeting of Badal with Modi before his US visit. He said Modi's initiative would help Sikhs establish their unique identity and attract NRI Sikhs to invest in Punjab. On the other hand, political analyst and professor at Guru Nanak Dev University Kuldeep Singh said Badal is desperate to get a relief package for the state not just to improve the fiscal health of the state but also to prove his allegations of discrimination against Sikhs and Punjab by the previous UPA government. He said the timing of the meeting could be coincidental. "The major issue is Badal's face saving exercise as the SAD government had been claiming that if the NDA comes to power, the coffers will be opened for Punjab," he said. 8. Hypocrisy doesn't promote Religion. Nowdays there is a big difference in what people preach & practice. Nobody will follow, unless you lead by example.
  9. First of all if parents are Dharmi they will marry their children on time with like minded people. Now majority are namesake Dharmis or Bhekhis who pretend to be religious but are engrossed in maya. So it doesn't matter whom they marry for money. Secondly those who have married out of religion have done so as per their destiny. We must accept it as Rab da bhana. They should opt for a Civil Marriage without any religious ceremony.

  13. Sardar Singh to be India's flag bearer at Asian Games opening India's hockey team captain Sardar Singh has been bestowed with the honour Ending the suspense over who would be the Indian contingent's flag bearer at Friday's 17th Asian Games opening ceremony here, men's hockey team captain Sardar Singh was on Thursday bestowed with the honour. "The flag bearer will be Sardar Singh, captain of the men's hockey team. Actually all the people were asked and we have been trying to ask the coaches about who is available. They all have matches the next day or the day after and none wanted to stand outside the stadium from 12 noon to 4 pm (before the parade). Sardar does not have a match. He was happy to do so," said Chef-de-Mission Adille Sumariwalla. "There were so many contenders, we asked them. Wrestlers are not there, boxers are not there. The badminton event is starting the day after and so do the shooters." The former national sprint champion and Olympian explained why the focus should not be on the flag bearer, which was just symbolic, but on winning honours at the Games. "I don't see why we are focusing so much on the flag bearer. We are here to win medals. Flag bearer is symbolic; focus should be on medals. Any great athlete can do it and we have many of them. "It will be a great boost to hockey and I hope we can win the gold, they (men's team) has been playing well," he added. Sumariwalla also said because of the restrictions imposed by the organisers, each country cannot field more than 130 persons in the parade. "Size is limited to 130, it can be less not more for the opening parade. I don't even know. For example Nikolai (Sneserev of Belarus, coach of middle distance running) has said 'though my wards' events are later my athletes won't be participating'." He also said the strength of the contingent was 622, which included 541 competitors. "350 of them have come so far out of 541. Total number of officials is 181 ? made up of doctors, physios, coaches, managers and video analysts," he added. 20. Delhi Sikh injured in Acid Attack, hair forcibly cut, one held Posted by: Admin September 17, 2014 42 Views Tension gripped Bhogal in Southeast Delhi on Monday night after three persons cut a 45-year-old man’s beard and hair before throwing acid on him. After the incident, people belonging to a particular community gathered at the spot and near the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. To avoid any riot-like situation, all senior police officers of the district reached the spot and heavy police presence was deployed to thwart any untoward incident. The victim has been identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Pappu. He is an auto-rickshaw driver and stays in Bhogal with his family. According to the police, at about 8.30 pm, Ranjit had gone to meet three men near the Blind School at Lodhi Road. One of them was reportedly known to Ranjit. “There an argument broke out between Ranjit and the three men after which, first, the assailants cut Ranjit’s hair and beard with a knife and then threw acid on him,” said the police, adding, “Ranjit suffered burns due to acid and he was rushed to the nearby hospital after a passerby made a call to the police control room.” He is now believed to be out of danger. The police said that one of the three assailants was nabbed by the locals soon after the attack and he was handed over to the police. He is being interrogated. The police, however, didn’t confirm any arrest till Tuesday evening. The police said that it was only after senior police officers reached the spot and assured prompt action that the angry crowd dispersed. “He has suffered serious injuries on his body and is admitted to Intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital. Police are doing nothing to arrest the accused. We don’t now who attacked my father, he has no enmity with anyone,” she said. After the incident, the people of Bhogal, which is Sikh-dominated area, today staged protest against the incident and demanded immediate arrest of all the culprits. Traders of Bhogal Market shut their shops to show their anger over the incident. Security has been beefed up in and around the area to avoid any untoward incident.
