  1. I would if I could but the website doesnt work :6 :6 :6 :6 :6 :6
  2. OK this is getting all rather confusing. For someone like me know is a total novice, a cheap and simple sarangi to start off with is ok? Where do you suggest we get one that is outside of Punjab? I would imagine most sellers would get theirs from India anyway and just add 300% commission???? I've asked my Thia to bring one over when he comes in 3 weeks anyway, so we shall see.
  3. Vaheguroo, I want to buy one...but the website doesnt work!!!!! How would I go about ordering one? Gurfateh
  4. Sangat Jio, Does anyone know of anyone selling a sarangi. I can get hold of one from Indian (on ebay) for about £150, but does anyone know anyone selling them?? Most of the common places like DTF Book and RajAcademy sell them at about £250. Thanks.
  5. Gurfateh Jio, Are there any representatives from Sikh organisations on here like SAS, Kaurageous, Sikhcess, SNA etc etc? If there are could you please PM me!! Also, does anyone know of anyone who does talks or workshops on leadership skills (for the sangat)? If there are 'expert' speakers on here please also get in touch. I'm trying to get a list of events arranged and need some organisations to assist!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. It's just sad, because to be blunt, no one will EVER listen. Many of us have posted similar bentis over the years on here but I think this forum (with ALL due respect) mimicks what we see happening within our community: Back-biting In-fighting Contradictions Intolerance I REALLY doubt that things will change that much because after all, we are only human. The mods do a great job to try and sort things out but to be honest, it won't help. There has to be a grass-route change in the way we deal with things. I for one will be bringing up my kids totally differently to the way my parents borught me up. I've see all of the above issue within my own family and others. Our parents generation, the last generation to have settled from Punjab, I think is the reason for our state. They are firmly routed in their upbringing and belifes which date back to the 50-70's.....whereas our generation (born outside of India) will hopefully see all the isses mentioned and can make a difference for our kids and the future of Sikhi.
  7. Thanks to all those who have contacted me so far. It's really good too see people are willing to help out. Just another benti, ANYONE in the North West/East of the UK wants to help us with seva, please get in touch.... We will be sending out information packs to those who have contacted us shortly. Please message me or e-mail on: r.k.badhan@manchester.ac.uk Many thanks Sangat Jio
  8. ha!! I was just wondering, cause it such a endless world in there (although I WONT be on there for such periods of time as to find out!!). but you can make your character into anything, change it's appearance etc. People actually buy and sell things in it for real money and make quite a good living. I was just wondering if there are any kinda cyber sangat on there. Could be the next Sikh Sangat V2.0!!!! Think about it....all those arguments about meat and alcohol turned into 3D......imagine the violence!!!!!! Ha!!!! Bad idea then I guess!!!
  9. Just started using Second Life, it's pretty sweet!!! Was just wondering if anyone has ever seen a cyber-Gurudwara on there or even a Sikh-group or Sikh meeting centre? Just curious!!!
  10. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, Gurfateh Jio, I would like to ask a huge benti for ANY sangat based anywhere from Stoke upwards in the UK (i.e. Cheshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Bradford, Leeds). We are planning a rather large ongoing seva project and I'm looking to get professionals such as: Teachers Counselors Fitness Instructors Health care professionals Musicians (e.g. tabla, sitar, sarangi, sarod) Gatka experts who are willing to help out. We are looking to build up a small database of volunteers from each area and then implement a seva program to be rolled across the North West/East of the UK. The seva will be dealing with empowerment of our youth and bringing both young and old back into the fold. If you think you could help, or know anyone who can help please give PM me back or message me on: r.k.badhan@manchester.ac.uk I can then send you an information pack about our plans and what we have in mind. I'm asking you Sangat Jio to PLEASE help us and join in with this exciting seva opportunity.
  11. Did they say that? If you have any issues PM me and we may be able to help (UNITED SIKHS) Here are some net references: MOST IMPORTANT: IS IT LEGAL TO CARRY A KIRPAN IN BRITAIN? Yes it is! Under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (section 139) and Criminal Justice 1996 (section 3 and 4) allows anyone to carry a blade exceeding the length of 3 inches for religious, cultural or work related reasons. The Criminal Justice Act and the 2003 Religious Discrimination Act safeguards the Sikhs to carry the Kirpan. http://www.oxfordsikhs.com/SikhAwareness/91.aspx Legal exceptions for carrying a knife Under certain circumstances, it's legal to be in possession of a knife in public: * If it's a tool of the trade (i.e. you work in catering or carpentry); * For religious reasons (i.e. a Sikh kirpan); * If it's a penknife (pocket or folding knife) less than three inches long (although it may be considered offensive if carried for the purpose of causing injury or harm). http://www.thesite.org/homelawandmoney/law...eaponsandthelaw From a Police website: There are two main areas where the Sikhs come into potential conflict with the law of the land; The first is the wearing of a turban, whilst riding a motor cycle. Under the Motor Cycles (Protective Helmets) Regulations 1980 there is a specific exemption for Sikhs wearing turbans, Secondly, is the Kirpan (Dagger). Some police officers may believe Sikhs carry the dagger as an offensive weapon. Under the Criminal Justice Act 1988, which deals with carrying articles with points or blades, there is an exemption, if the person is carrying the item for religious reasons. There is however, no specific exemption under the Prevention of Crimes Act 1953. The person carrying the offensive weapon would have to show that they had a reasonable excuse. The inference being that the carrying of the Kirpan for religious reasons would fall into this category. In practice, Sikhs who carry the Kirpan will often only carry a very small knife, which could be described as ornamental rather than the original version, which, therefore, complies with their religion. Others have taken to incorporating it into the design of their Kangha (comb): therefore it is very unlikely to constitute an offensive weapon. http://www.warwickshire.police.uk/Diversit...mmunities/Sikhs
  12. JailBroken phones are great...the iphone is great...contemplating selling my nokia E90 and using the iPhone instead. The new version should excell though..GPS and (hopefully) better camera.
  13. I second that...I have an iPhone and it's great....but we are missing a STTM type of program for the iPhone. I have a MAC and could download the SDK and see what I can do, but I'm no programmer. Perhaps, with the help of my gora friend (who LOVES Sikhs!!!) we could at least come up with a primitive SGGSJ searachable type of interface?
  14. We should get one of our Nanis to give him a good slap himself!!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/ot...dia/7370313.stm Perhaps Hayden was right when he described him as "an obnoxious little weed".
  15. Good point....what movie was it anyway????
  16. OK, been in contact with a family representative and they have said they are sorting things out. Hopefully they will be able to end up with a positive outcome from this, but I'm not sure if we should be making more people aware of this issue as a rate-hate crime (as it seems like they would like to deal with it themselves)? Anyway, just thought I'd update you and let you know that they said they are dealing with it.

  20. I have a cat....despite his hair getting all over the place he's pretty cute and he ALWAYS listen to me doing Nitnem!!! Although my nani always says pets are bad as it's more attachment to maya.... My only come back is that I rescued it from a shelter for cats that otherwise would have been put down, and plus he likes Gurbani!!!!
  21. I didn't really want to show that site to get people to reply as it is quite clear that people on there are so narrow minded that it will just not work. It was simply to illustrate how pathetic people are nowadays. I am glad that I am open minded and accepting of all religions. Those posting just show us how we should NOT be, rather the fact that we should be totally accepting and respectful of peoples beliefs and feelings.
  22. I was looking around the net and stumbled across this thread from Canada: http://www.discovervancouver.com/forum/Sik...ts-t235851.html it makes me think how damned stupid some people are....really now...that thread is just so pathetic and it really shows how narrow minded people can be. Oh well
  23. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, I need someone who could translate a small letter for my baba...I need to send it tomorrow and would appreciate someone who could just retype it in Punjabi so i can print it and send it. I have the Gurmuki fonts installed on my MAC so it's just a case of sending the file to me.... I really hope someone could help with this, PM me and I will send you the small letter. Thank you so much!!! :WW: :WW:
  24. Hmm....my Vista installation went haywire after I installed MagicISO....I tried EVERYTHING, and eventually resorted to a clean install of Vista. I'm sure some others could help, but I've had my fair share of horror with Vista and would probably recommened a clean install (if you have no other important files on it) otherwise it's gonna take some vista expert on this forum to sort it out for you. Did you do a repair from the vista disc? There is an option on the vista disc where it will check you PC for boot errors or other vista errors and will try and fix it
  25. Awwwwwwwww will there be a MAC version? Awwww Awww Awww Please say yes....
