  1. Jasvinder1958 Ji, Many thanks for coming on-line. Is there anything further the Management Committee of Sikh Temple, Grays would like to feedback to the sangat regarding events since 30 May 2010?

  3. Stop fantasising. Fantasising is a weakness of the mind and its more than likely the fantasising which probably generates your habit. If it's more than that then my suggestion is to seek medical help. The problem is that if you fail to control yourself now then over years it eventually becomes habitual and an addiction. It's like a smoker trying to quit, they know they shouldn't smoke but do anyway. If you are serious about taking your Sprituality forward then you need to develop a Gursikh mindset and stop thinking about women in that way.
  4. I agree with the above. Stronger focus on the English speeches/presentations at Trafalgar Square is definetly required... In honest terms, during the time Joga Singh, Cheuru, Manmohan Singh and Amrik Singh were on the Trafalgar Sq stage, it felt liked they had almost hijacked the stage and event started to loose momentum.. Keep the Trafalgar Sq part of the event for the stronger speakers..Let the usual glory seekers have their 5mins of fame at the Hyde Park bit...
  5. Fair comments...but...After 26 years the Sikhs desperate requirement is still for a high budget, technical, professional film to be produced using a broad range of visual expressions to document the reality of 1984. The problem is until then eveyones reliant on using clips from these old documentaries produced by the History Channel or the BBC... Sorry to say them various youtube videos out there would not be seen fit in professional terms for broadcast quality......Even if clips were shown of Brar and Tully, the rest of the event, speakers, banners, slogans, literature clearly voiced what Sikhs feel. I think the communications were pretty clear and I find it hard to believe that any newbie attending the remembrance programme would only take Tully or Brars short clips on board..
  6. I'd say this was the strongest turnout since 2004. It was a real cross section of the community, a lot more women and kids than the usual testosterone driven male elders and naujwaan turnout. There seemed to be a mature conduct this year and I agree on the comments regarding previous years where the covered faces, effigy foot stamping, swearing slogans and flag burning of the past had put many people off from attending. I think on the back of this year's conduct, the sangat turnout will be even larger next year. The Sikh Channel presence also helped in raising the profile of the gathering. Probably why more mothers and kids felt like attending this year. It's always good to see a level of professionalism within Sikhs. Considering the lack of jathebhandi and general sangat support, I have to say that the Sikh Fed UK guys pull this off really well every year. I don't think we sometimes give them the credit for keeping the profile of 1984 at the level it has been. Let's face it no other group gets off their backsides to organise anything of this scale, yet many have lot's to say to bring the organisation of the event down and many are even ready to hijack some stage time to promote themselves. Besides the usual limelight hijackers, the Trafalgar square part of the gathering (particularly the videos) and the English speeches impressed many first time attendees.
  7. What annoys me is this hear no evil, see no evil attitude that exists in most of us today. The elderly lady's family kicked off with the committee yesterday and I don't blame them...all the committee had to do was call the emergency services and report the crime to the Police. The assailant was sitting for at least a good half hour in the Gurdwara and he could have been handed over to the authorities instead of a "pindu telling off". Now all the committee have done is let this man (who clearly needs some professional help as well) back out to perhaps assault another elderly lady in another Gurdwara or on the street. Well.. at least the committee had some level of intelligence and got someone to mop the blood up and shampoo the carpet where the blood stained....
  8. Yesterday at around 2pm an elderly Sikh lady was pushed and punched in the face by a young Punjabi man over a small misunderstanding relating to the degh sewa at a Gurdwara Karamsar in Ilford. This resulted in the elderly lady suffering some clear facial injuries and having a severe nose bleed in the darbar sahib whilst the younger Punjabi man simply sat doing the degh sewa. It was apparent from the young man's demeanour that his mental state was unstable. The elderly lady, who for several minutes, was still bleeding and her eyes had now begun to swell up was taken to the Langer hall. The Gurdwara Sahib was quite busy at the time and people went to the committee room in order for the Police and Ambulance services to be called. The members of committee and one of the Granthi's remained seated in the office whilst they sent some other Gurdwara sewadars (a small group of "faujies") up to confront the young man. They grabbed the young man, escorted him out of the Gurdwara, "scolded" him and told him not to come back. It was disheartening and disgusting that no Emergency call was made by the committee who remained fixed to their chairs. When asked several times to call an ambulance, the Granthi commented by saying that this would become a Police case and it's not good for the Gurdwara. Eventually the elderly lady was persuaded that she did not need an ambulance as the bleeding had stopped and was asked to go home. Some members of the sangat took it upon themselves call an ambulance for the lady and took her outside the Gurdwara. The young Punjabi man was later seen walking around half a mile from Gurdwara Karamsar in the direction of Gurdwara Singh Sabha. The reason I believe this incident needs to be discussed is because what the committee, the Granthi and other sewadars of the Gurdwara did was encourage a "cover up". Instead of thinking of the welfare of the elderly lady and of other members of the public, they let an unstable dangerous man onto the street so that their Gurdwara would not be tarnished. They left an elderly lady to suffer threatening injuries without medical help. All so that the name of a Gurdwara would not get tarnished. Where's the "HONOUR" in that!!!! Where's the SIKHI in that!!!! I don't think the committee and granthi of this Gurdwara deserve to have the luxury of sweeping this incident under the carpet.....
  9. A good few years ago I was sitting in panagt in Barking Gurdwara eating langar and a smart white bloke came and sat next to me with his thaal of langar. He turned to me said "sat sri akal" and started talking. He handed me a watchtower magazine and said that I hope a person in the house of nanak gives some time to read this. As he mentioned Guru Nanak Dev ji's name and he was in the Gurdwara I didn't say much back to him, just smiled. At the time I took the magazine. Looking back at it, it was cheeky of him to be hanging around the Gurdwara striking converstations with people and then handing them over a copy of the watchtower. Recently they also tried giving a punjabi vhs/dvd to some of the elders in other Gurdwaras around the Ilford area. As they are so polite and approach us in our Guru Ghars most Sikhs give them respect back and take their leaflets. In the Ilford area there are 2 Punjabi Bibya who go around knocking on peoples houses. They wear punjabi suits, keep their chunniya on their heads and go by their punjabi names (I think one is called Sukhbir Kaur). They strike a conversation with our Sikh ladies/elders in Punjabi and then start the whole Jehovah's witness script. They have Gurmukhi literature, with pictures of Sikhs on them as well as a punjabi vhs/dvd which they try and leave with people. I'm not knocking them but I think it's just worth being aware of this.
  10. Some Sikhs have taken on the sewa of mailshoting all 320 UK Gurdwaras with the above article by this weekend!.. Thanks
  11. Can someone from West Bromwich distribute the article at the Shaheedi Samagam tonight and over the weekend?
  12. Please print and distribute this article with pictures in your local Gurdwaras. I believe this is being distributed to sangat in the midlands. I can confirm this is being distributed in Coventry, Derby, Ilford, Nottingham and Hounslow. Please can some volunteers distribute in Southall at the Sant Anoop Singh Kirtan samagam this week.
  13. A simple public search on CaritasData reveals the following ironic aims and objectives of Grays Gurdwara committee. Looks like there's too much focus on objective 3 and their "social welfare" objective. Perhaps Sri Akal Takht Sahib and our national jathebhandi's can discuss objective 3 and it's current direct contradiction to objective 1 further with Gurdip Singh and Kewal Singh Grewal. http://www.charitiesdirect.com/charities/gurdwara-grays-sikh-temple-1123363.html Registered Charity Number: 1123363 Category Religious activities Address: 6 Maidstone Road Grays Essex RM17 6NF Tel: 01375 376086 Aims & Objectives: 3. THE OBJECTS THE CHARITY'S OBJECTS (THE OBJECTS) ARE 1. THE ADVANCEMENT AND PRACTICE OF THE SIKH RELIGION; 2. ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION IN THE SUBJECT OF SIKHISM AND THE PUNJABI LANGUAGE; AND 3. PROVISION AND MAINTENANCE OF A HALL FOR RECREATION OR OTHER LEISURE ACTIVITIES IN THE INTERESTS OF SOCIAL WELFARE WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE FOR THE INHABITANTS OF THE AREA OF BENEFIT. FOR ALL THE ABOVE THE AREA OF BENEFIT IS THE PUBLIC IN THE BOROUGH OF THURROCK AND SURROUNDING AREAS.
  14. Apologies. The number should read 01375 376086. I will amend above.
  15. Grays Gurdwara Senior Committee Contacts Gurdwara President is Gurdip Singh Gurdwara General Sec is Kewal Singh Grewal The Committee can be contacted on tel no 01375 376086. Please laise with your local Sikh group or any national jathebhandi to contact the above individuals at Grays Gurdwara
  16. I did not attend the meeting myself. However, from some individuals who did attend I was told that the 12 man Gurdwara Committee (who by majority were against the idea of meat, alcohol and parties being allowed on the Gurdwara premises) were overruled by local sangat who wished to serve meat and alcohol at parties on the premises of the Gurdwara complex. In the Gurdwara committee of 12, 8 members of the Grays Gurdwara committee were against the meat, alcohol and party proposal, however 4 members were in favour. The 4 members managed to influence the committee to have an AGM (local sangat meeting), as they stragically placed a large number of their family members within the voting sangat who were then able to swing the vote in their favour. The Akal Takht Sandesh of 2006, strictly forbidding these activities in Sikh Gurdwara complexes was articulately presented to the local Grays sangat by a young local Sikh (who it is believed was invited by the Gurdwara Committee President Gurdip Singh himself) but the contents of the Sandesh was subsequently ignored by that voting sangat. Around 9 further independent individuals from the wider UK sangat (not from Grays) attended the AGM but were not allowed to participate in the vote and were later verbally and physically abused as they questioned the decision made by the local sangat. One of the indivduals had his turban pulled and was then attacked by members of the local Grays sangat as he left the Gurdwara hall after voicing his opinion. Subsequently, at the end of this AGM a sub committee was formalised to manage the bookings of this Gurdwara annexed hall. The sub committee is to be headed by a committee member called Kewal Singh Grewal.
  17. I think people need to realise that the original R4G campaign fizzled out a few years ago and the structure does not exist as it did from 2004-2007. So as a jathebhandi, R4G is currently non-existant...The issues, however, still are relevant! In terms of moving this forward. Firstly, in my personal opinion I would pass the buck back onto the established jathebhadi's such as BSC, NSO, SFUK as well as the more dharmic jathebhandi such as GNNSJ, AKJ etc. Secondly, this is a prime opportunity to get the newly formed Sikh Channel/Gurdwara advisory committee on board. I think it's time to test the limits of the national parbhandaks who appear to be willing to be rather vocal on the Sikh Channel discussion progammes. Thirdly, your local prabhandak's must get their fingers out of their behinds and start putting pressure on Grays prabhandaks and community to keep in line with Gurmat.
  18. lol....mala...are u highlighting the competitive edge each shahedi samagam seems to have over the other!?
  19. Is there a poster made for Trafalger Sq? Can someone post it on this thread. Thanks
  20. http://inform.com/culture-and-lifestyle/charged-vienna-sikh-temple-murder-prosecution-937469a According to this article The main suspect, who was shot in the head during the clash and spent time in hospital in an induced coma, said he did not remember anything. According to a psychiatric expert, these claims were "credible". The five other suspects meanwhile rejected the charges against them, their lawyer Alexia Stuefer told AFP. "Being at the scene of the crime does not make you guilty," she argued. Although the five did drive to the temple with the alleged murderer, "they were not aware of his plans," said Stuefer. "If they had known, they would have stopped him. They simply wanted to see the ceremony," she said, adding that her clients had been "seriously injured" during the attack. So that means the other 5 suspects are pinning it all on the 1 main suspect who in turn is claiming loss of memory.... Was this then just the work of 1 loose cannon who pulled the trigger, because there seems to be no unity within the suspects? ..or did he have a valid justification to pull the trigger from a dharmic/panthic view point?...for some reason I can't justify it in my head, something seems very wrong about what happened..
  21. With all these press reports of memory loss, not guilty pleas and a link to a "radical" Sikh group in Spain. ....What really happened on Vienna Gurdwara? It's still all very wishy washy.... What made Sant Ramanand stand out from all the other current dehdhari style babay in India? Who are the six charged in Vienna?

    Topic For Adults

There's more to romance and bedroom intimacy...it takes time to build a relationship and as Gursikhs (assuming you are talking in that context), husband and wife are each others permanent sangat..essentially they are there for each others spiritual and moral development..which really over rides any physical or body relationship..
