  1. The discussion on 1984 will be in the 2nd half of the show from 2 to 3pm. If you want to call in, would strongly recommend calling in before 1pm to make sure you get in the queue. Also, it's highly likely the they will push for a "balanced" view on the show, so would suggest being tactful when the researcher asks you what your view points are. This will influence whether they decide to put your call on air.
  2. Sangat TV discussion show recently broadcast on 6 June 2012 about the background and build up to the planned attack by the Indian Government on Sri Harminder Sahib, Amritsar in June 1984. The Army massacred thousands of Sikhs, we can never forget...... Please forward this YouTube video via email, facebook, twitter etc #IPledgeOrange #10DaysofTerror http://www.facebook....ikhyouthproject http://nsyf.org.uk/
  3. Apologies for that, I was just regurgitating the Daily Mail headline in todays news. The Daily Mirror ran the story on the front page with a spread on page 4. That headline was even more sinister... "Sex attacker on the royal barge: Security blunder lets pervert mingle with the Queen"
  4. Question is, should have Rana shown responsibility and been transparent about his previous convictions for sex offenses? This may have meant taking a tactful back seat as a public figure head. What he's done by not being entirely transparent of his past is give the opportunity to enhace the media stereotype of the "Asian Male Pervert", not to mention another media assassination on the Sikh image. Best not to put yourself in the public front line if you have some serious baggage!
  5. http://www.dailymail...side-Queen.html How pleased we all were to see a Sikh on the Royal barge during the jubilee celebrations...but now we read this in today's papers. The Sikh community need to take responsibility of vetting the background of individuals who put themselves forward as "Sikh representatives" to avoid any future embarrassment upon us all. Headline from Daily Mail example below: Sex attacker was invited on to royal barge alongside Queen during Jubilee pageant Harbinder Singh Rana said he did not even know if he had been vetted The sex offender, 52, served four years for a series of attacks on women He has since reinvented himself as a pillar of the Sikh community Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2155645/Sex-attacker-Harbinder-Singh-Rana-invited-Royal-barge-alongside-Queen.html
  6. It's up to you my friend. The current naamdhari style pug is not the most sturdiest or appealing style of dastaar to tie and guarantee won't last an active day without rising above the "sun-tan" line by the evening...
  7. The current pug that "naamdharis" tie is a blend of the kenyan pug influence and the typical old style keski. As most naamdharis came from tarkaan (carpenter) backgrounds and had links with East Africa, they were influenced by the folds that the East African Sikhs did. If you observe carefully, the naamdhari pug itself is based on the strokes of the dummala which is commonly used to tie keski/choti dastaar. Old mainstream pictures of the kookas under Baba Ram Singh clearly show an ucha boonga and dummala style. After the exile of Ram Singh, the kookas lived in isolation from mainstream Sikh community in Bhani, Ludhiana during when Ram Singh's successor Hari S architected the "conspiracy" theories of Sikh Guru lineage being linked to Ram Singh, re-incarnation of Guru Gobind Singh etc It was during the times of Partap S (after 1930s really) when the kookas started travelling out of Bhani to villages which were predominately tarkaan (mainly villages where the Channa, Matharu clans resided) which inadvertently lead to 4 or 5 visits to Kenya. During these travels a small number East African Sikhs from tarkaan backgrounds converted to the "naamdhari" beliefs and those adopted the now known style of naamdhari pug which got promoted amongst the naamdhari elites. This style then spread during the mini-propagation of naamdharism in the few families in Thailand and some of the villages in Ludhiana and Jallandhar. Ram Singh (the dastaar style is clearly a dummala and not the modern day naamdhari pag)
  8. http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/update/2012-05-30/man-charged-after-alleged-assault-in-luton/ Man charged after alleged assault in Luton A man has been charged in connection with an alleged assault in Luton that resulted in protests by members of the Sikh community. About 250 people began a sit-down demonstration outside the police station on Buxton Road at about 9pm on Tuesday 29th May. That followed a meeting at the Gurdwara in Dallow Road earlier in the evening where members of the Sikh community met with police officers to voice their concerns after the alleged assault. Anan Majid Basharat, 19, from Luton has been charged with common assault and will be appearing at Luton Magistrates Court.
  9. These pendu tamashas take place in most Gurdwaras every weekend and are not just distinct to Huddersfield. Until these kinds of prabhandaks mature up, we'll continually witnessing this pushing and shoving, The only way is for the mature thinking focussed Sikhs from the Sangat to infiltrate the Gurdwara administration and side line these kind of people out. It has worked in the past but requires commitment and passion from the sangat to become members iof the Gurdwara committees in larger groups.
  10. Pedrorizzo, In response to your comments above. In short, with my experiences I don’t see the world as you do, but hand on heart my psyche feels demoralised rather than empowered by the ones who proclaim leadership in the Sikh community, be it UK or India. I have an Ucha Sucha view of the Sikh and I believe there are others like me, you can call us deluded, “hot heads” or misunderstood but I feel those high aspirations we have for the Gurmat Panthic approach can only help us strive for quality. Principles, Honesty and Integrity still mean something into today’s fast paced world and there can political success without the one-upmanship, double standards and brown nosing. Don’t underestimate the interaction us “Youth” have had with our self-appointed leaders over the last 10 years and perhaps try and understand why many of us moved away but not to the side lines. Going back to these events, if the Sikh leaders possess no clout to influence the drinks menu of a national Sikh event then it shows us how feeble we are at projecting Sikh principles. We can have numerous Sikhs who are Lords, Sirs, Bhai Sahibs and even have our own Council but delayer it and we are still ashamed to make our Gurmat stand. We only have ourselves to blame.
  11. Pedrorizzo, Showmanship is not leadership. Any genuine sevadars who attended this event are clearly overshadowed by the self promoters plugging their own agendas in this so called networking exercise. I question whether the networking was for the Panth or was it too boost individual profiles. In my simple pendoo world, I look up to the principled Sikh who sticks to his/her agenda.. not the one who goes to Downing Street to do Bhangra. Clearly that’s all your leaders think we’re good for. I wonder if anyone was willing to do join their hands in an Ardas in Downing Street seeing the event was to celebrate Vasaikhi, but bring on Channi Alaap and the Sikhs will join their hands to clap to the beat. You say there is a “time and place”, clearly this was seen as the time and place to Bhangra!
  12. Lol.."Fruit juice" in fancy wine glasses :wink2: ! That sure separates the pendoos from the noble. Most of us are still drinking our tea from the saucer.
  13. Would Downing Street have pulled out pork scratchings and wine at an event for Muslims? I'm sure they are aware of the Muslims sentiments. We're just lame at expressing ours.
  14. A generic template message, probably pulled out by the pm on diwali too. I am annoyed by someone like Bhai Mohinder Singh's negligant acceptance of the alcholic beverages at a Sikh event for vasaikhi. We need to stop putting people on pedestals if they're not going to stand for asools.
  15. So this is the Sikh 'elite.'..they have great double standards to live up to. No gursikh influence on the drinks menu then.
  16. Delhi Gallucara November 1984 Members of Bibiji's family were slaughtered as well as her child. She was left on her own and had to sanskar the bodies in her own house with wood from furniture. These are the amazing Singhiya we are blessed with. No matter what happened they never give up.
  17. The videos uploaded by user id gana singh has an anti Sikh bias. He's implying Sikhs deserved the heavy handed Police approach.
