I think how bbc have both repeatedly and historically portrayed massive amounts of anti sikh misrepresentation, that sikh should no longer support bbc in any way. no longer shud we try and make programs about sikhi through them, as they will at every attempt misrepresent us, same goes for ITV i.e. that stupid <admin-profanity filter activated> show The Jury. Finally veer thank you, i just wished the organisers did this in the first place for further clarification. so i can now conclude that the reasons for not allowing anyone else to record r not being contradicted by their own camerasinghs. thanks a couple of outstanding points: have recording rights been sold to alpha???????????????????? also with regards to point 5) ive been going to most of the events in my locality and i do enjoy them, what i dont enjoy is explotation of kirtan based on the fanism concept. from the way it has been advertised u can see quite clearly theres alota emphasis on whos coming, also alota ragis have quite a large fan base, this is evident by the fact that theres alot more sangat than ususal when some famous ragi jatha comes. this would equate to fanism i.e. going to a kirtan prog based on whos coming/doing the kirtan rather than the kirtan itself. any program therefore making specific promotions of various famous ragis in order to gain sangat are thus encouraging fanism. which is therefore anti gurmat. another point i have is that i belive that basic maryda is not being upheld at the programs i.e. non sikhs being on stage. (by non sikhs i mean not bein intiated a sikh by guroo sahib) also thanks for answering, this is all i needed, shame the ataam raas sevadars were not able to climb down from their homai tree and answer my questions instead of viewing them as a personal attack. also just too add on another note, charnpreet singh if u reading u still not given any response to ur incorrect use of labling me a fundamentalist! its really difficult to admit being wrong isnt it!

are they? it seems to be predicated and based on whos doing the kirtan and whos coming, names and faces, which not only encourage homai, but such a base for a kirtan program is not gurmat. and no they r not all about money which is true, however what is true is that if they r selling recording rig hts and selling sikhi as if it is a business then that is wrong, and the official representatives hav not responded to this thread yet to answer the questions posed several weeks ago. infact they induljed in a personal attack and badly avoided the questions as is evident from the initial post. no one is questioning if the sangat loved the kirtan or not! ur diverting the topic, we were questioning if programs based on what was discussed in the 1st post and by davinder singh were right or wrong. raising awareness is only good as long as sikhi is not misrepresented, for example i have a suspicion that basic maryada is not being maintained in particular the sevadars organising this event and sitting on the stage are not yet sikhs (as the very basic first thing that makes one a sikh i.e. the first thing guroo sahib asks of his sikhs, not to organise kirtan programs but to take amrit and be baptised as a sikh i.e. have the oppertunity to be recognised as a sikh in the eyes of guroo jee.) without basic maryada being upheld in these events any parchar being done is ultimatly false and falling on deaf ears, its is also misreprestentative of sikhi i.e. having a non sikh on stage possibly preaching to the sangat when they themselves have not followed the first basic thing guroo sahib asks of his sikh.

ya it looked like a good event, shame quite a few in the sangat wasnt covering their heads/hair while in the presence of the open darbar. the open stage idea seems to be a better and more sensible alternative when gurdwaras are too small for large public gatherings rather than taking guroo sahib into a hall thats used for commiting kuraits

lol simple logic is the answer to this since rakhria is a ritual which sikhism is against, the followers of sikhism therefore do not practice rakhria. i realise some ppl will call themselves sikhs yet do not belive in sikhism however this is the obvious contradition between somone who says he is a sikh and somone who guroo sahib actually does recognise as a sikh to a basic extent event. so what you said is bit of a non question as sikhs do not celebrate rakhria if i was to say im a hindu and then ate beef would i really be a hindu? same logic u see(although i do accept that in hinduism that anyone is hindu even if they dont belive in it, which is pretty weird )
