  2. Looks nice! This is a perfect exapmple of a place where sikhs should give their dasaundh. Maybe Sikhgiving can initiate Project 3 to help out kids here.
  3. What is in the surname veerji.... it is of no relevence to SIKHS. Its unsikh to use one... Santji never used his last name whereas K S Brar did..... Sikhs are Singhs and nothing else. As for that forum... there are numerous forums for and against sikhi..... we dont need to proove them anything...Just learn as much as you can, and build your jeewan.

  6. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2006/20060726/punjab1.htm#12 Book on Operation Bluestar released Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 25 Hardip Singh Dibdiba, a former personal assistant of Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode and a former Jatheder of Akal Takht, has written a book on the developments consequent to Operation Bluestar carried out by the Indian Army at the Golden Temple in June 1984. Dibdiba alleged that the stance of his former boss, Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode was unprincipled during the years after the Bluestar Operation. He said the book also contained references to the talks held between Bhai Rode and various government functionaries at that time. In the book he also said the Sikh community should not have any hope from Mr Simranjit Singh Mann or from late Gurcharan Singh Tohra and further said even the Damdami Taksal was not capable of leading the panth. This book titled “ Saka neela tara toon baad” (after Operation Bluestar) has highlighted the weakness of the personalities leading the Sikh community at that time. The book aims to ask these leaders to look within their own conscience, he said. The book also advises the community to fight on issues. The book was released last weekend by former Chief Justice Ajit Singh Bains. Has anyone read it in punjab?
  7. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2006/20060726/punjab1.htm#11 Yatra had approval of Takht chief: Sangat chief Varinder Walia Tribune News Service Amritsar, July 25 National president of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat (RSS) Gurcharn Singh Gill said the controversial ‘Sarb Sanjhi Gurbani Yatra’ was organised to mark quadricentennial celebrations of the installation of Guru Granth Sahib in March, 2004 after getting a ‘green signal’ from Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti Jathedar of Akal Takht. Mr Gill said his organisation was formed in November 1986, two years after Operation Bluestar to improve image of the Sikhs in other parts of the country. He said the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat had contributed a lot to serve the community since its formation and convinced the countrymen that the Sikhs had made supreme sacrifices for the sake of country. Mr Gill, who is an Additional Advocate-General, Rajasthan (Jaipur), said he had provided legal service free cost detainees to the Sikh on the request of the SGPC and the Shiromani Akali Dal in the past. ‘I can submit documentary proof to substantiate my claims’, he said. However, it came as great shock to the RSS when Akal Takht had issued ‘unilateral directive’ asking Sikh Sangat not to cooperate with the Yatra. Mr Gill claimed that Jathedar Vedanti had made a volte face on the yatra when he came back from foreign tour. Replying to another question, Mr Gill, claimed that Jathedar Vedanti and Mr Badal were fully convinced that his organisation (RSS) had been serving the Sikh Panth and had never violated any ‘Maryada’ (Sikh code of conduct) during their meeting with Mr Arun Jaitley and Mr R.P. Singh in August last year. ‘Our cadre had expressed its resentment to the BJP leadership over the unilateral directive against the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat and urged them to convince its political partner (Shiromani Akali Dal — Badal) to get the unilateral directive withdrawn, on the basis of the great service to Sikhism. ‘The friendship should be on reciprocal basis, the RSS workers had told the BJP leadership’, he quipped. He also confirmed several meetings with Jathedar Vedanti and Mr Badal. Mr Gill said Mr Badal himself had accepted in principle, that the directive issued by Akal Takht should be withdrawn. He confirmed the ‘secret meeting’ between Jathedar Vedanti and BJP leaders, including Mr Navjot Singh Sidhu and Mr R.P. Singh in the presence of Mr Badal and SGPC Chief, Avtar Singh at Amritsar.
  8. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2006/20060726/punjab1.htm#1 SGPC meeting ends in fisticuffs Our Correspondent Patiala, July 25 Fracas erupted at an SGPC executive meeting held at Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib here today with members openly coming to fisticuffs. The police intervened to pacify the agitated members, many of whom lost their turbans in the melee. The trouble broke out when a section of the gathering started raising slogans against SGPC chief Avtar Singh at the venue. The SGPC task force too joined the free-for-all. According to eyewitness reports, the task force beat up members owing allegiance to the Akhand Kirtani Jatha and the Guru Granth Sahib Mission Committee. A delegation of Sikhs from Kaki village wanted to meet Mr Avtar Singh but some members of the task force blocked their way. Following this they started raising slogans against the SGPC chief. Outnumbered by the task force and other Akali workers, the delegation members beat a hasty retreat but not before being roughed up by the task force members. Turbans tossed around in the melee while many members of the delegation could be seen soaked in blood. A police party from the Tripuri police station reached the venue and brought the situation under control.

  11. All gursikhs mentioned were great sikhs, but its surprising no one mentioned Bhai kanhiya! I think our youth should be following him a lot to let our huge egos out. There are innumerable gursikhs who would be our hero's. It will be hard to say who is fav. and who is not. I personally think seggregating them is not a nice thing to do. All gursikhs should be our hero's. We should learn from all of them.
  12. Even I have heard that Neela (guru gobind singh ji's horse) would not go near a tabacco farm. I've worked in a gas station selling it, but at that time i was not into sikhi. If someone asks me to do it now... I'll rather do something else. Especially for amritdharis who are reflection of guruji (khalsa), should know to stay away from these things.....
  13. http://www.sikhreview.org/october2000/juris.htm Supreme Court of india has declared sri guru granth sahibji to be a Juristic person and not mere book. So I hope this chap would be facing criminal proceedings meant for him.
  14. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2006/20060629/main2.htm A Tribune exclusive Naga talks in top gear; deal to be clinched in Bangkok Swati Chaturvedi New Delhi, June 28 In the words of the Prime Minister’s Principal Interlocutor “From first gear it has now moved into fourth gear”. And unlike the politician’s hyperbole it is a cautious bureaucrat, Mr K. Padmanabhiah, describing it as the first breakthrough in the five-year Naga peace process. It is now official. As reported earlier by The Tribune, the contours of the Naga peace settlement will resemble that of a special Kashmir-type status within the Indian union. From a demand of absolute sovereignty to the current “open mind’’ of the NSCN (I/M) which involves a “special federal relationship with India where Nagaland and India will be inseparably bound together’’ is indeed a long walk together for peace. Sources say the accord with the Nagas will entail changes in Article 7 of the Constitution which deals with relations with the states. At present, this does not apply to Jammu & Kashmir. Articles 151 to 237, a total of 88 articles, are however, reflected in the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly while the NSCN wants a separate constitution the government wants to settle for providing a special chapter in the Indian Constitution. Part six of the Constitution deals with the role and powers of the Governor, the state legislature, the state judiciary and the Advocate-General of India. These provisions do not apply in Jammu and Kashmir and have been incorporated in the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution. Constitutional experts are of the view that a similar arrangement can be made with the Nagas incorporating their unique tribal culture into account either in the shape of a separate constitution like Jammu and Kashmir or as a special chapter in the Constitution. While, the fine print of the deal will be thrashed out over the next meeting to be held in Bangkok all the midnight oil that Mr Padmanabhiah has been burning studying the constitution of India and Jammu and Kashmir has obviously borne fruit. He and the political team have obviously been able to find a “marketable solution’’. For the NSCN to accept anything short of complete independence is in the words of one of the ministers involved in the negotiations, “a remarkable breakthrough’’. Clearly all the prayers led by Isaac Chisi Swu, a devout Christian, before the start of the meetings have paid off. Sources say the settlement will involve giving Nagaland a special status within the Indian Union. It will be largely ceremonial in nature. And, then the more than a decade-long insurgency will stop. Speaking exclusively to the Tribune, Mr Padmanabhiah stuck a note of cautious optimism. “The talks are on track; Let us hope for the best. We have all worked hard for five years to bring about this situation,’’ he said. The flurry of meetings after the negotiations in The Hague is a pointer that the next meeting could be the clincher. Analysts point out the magnitude of concession “from a demand of complete independence to an inseparable union with India it is a huge breakthrough.’’ According to senior officials, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s brief to the negotiators was that “the Constitution is flexible, it can accommodate them. As long as they are part of India... .’’ The Naga blueprint may well provide a pointer to other separatist problems. — The writer is an anchor with Janmat TV and writes regularly for The Tribune.
  15. India is currently ranked 117 by FIFA. There are no. of punjabis in football. One of the main reasons they can't pull a decent team is, because of politics and corruption. Also lack of intrest among general population prevents big companies from sponsring the events. A friend of mine plays for Under 20 indian team, which is lot better than national team, as there is less corruption so talented youth can come forward. But the way corruption is there... it will be years till we see indian team playing world cup.......
  16. can someone plz provide gurmukhi version where guruji said they were not god. We should look into the source and see if it has been translated correctly or something. I've heard sakhis of devis, mopping floors in gurujis darbar.... so was guruji a greater demi god? If they were just Learned individuals or spiritual beings, than what distinguishes them from other prophets like ram chandraji, jesus. Why didnt those prophets composed Dhur Ki bani? I just need to clarify my thoughts.....
  17. I agree with you veerji. Can you provide source for ur quote? Fateh
  18. No disrespect to our Great gurujis. I personally believe Guru Nanak dev ji were Nirankar HIMSELF and HIS jyot passed on to SGGSJI. But some think THEY were not GOD. Just wanted to calrify my views and learn more. Fateh!
  19. I agree that Akal Thakt sahib should issue directives for using khanda. It has become more of a cultural symbol rather than religious one. I was at a bhangra competition last yr. and half of the teams had khanda on their jackets and couple shouted out "waheguruji ka khalsa, waheguruji ki fateh". Also there was a team called khalsa junction. Some of you might know tht name being discusses here on a thread. The point is that if we stay complacent, these ppl are not gonna stop. You never know what they will come up with next. So Akal Thakt sahib should issue directives for use of all sikh religious symbols and bana.
  20. I made two last night... Couldnt think of something unique. Will work more.... Singh20's look tight. Here are mine.....
  21. I totally agree with you brother. Even if they start a channel it will be more for financial reasons.... Just like you see newspapers with ads from all babas. I think the best would be if organisations working for sikh cause have a common news channel, free from biasing and not controlled by a single person. But its a shame that the most flourishing community cant come toghter to do something good for themselves....
  22. I love this shabad by Bhai Harjinder singhji srinagar wale. you will get it online.

  24. If being called RUDE for following the true path than its better to be called rude. Similar thing happned during my wedding reception. I was big No for alcohol and meat. My uncle said he'll pay for both. I said money is not a concern, by beliefs are. HE was like, what will all relatives say, and whats the fun of party without it. So he said then dont invite them. I said fine. I only invited my friends, who know what i believe in and respect that. At the last moment my parents invited other relatives to party and they did came. Noone told me on my face that they didnt liked the fact that alcohol was not served. We had a great reception and Iam happy i was able to hold on my ground with guruji's grace. Harjit veerji, dont feel bad if ur relatives term you rude. ALways remember that relatives are ppl you were born with, Friends are someone you pick. So i always give prefrence to my friends over relatives. If they have problem with my faith, then so be it. I'm not here to appease them, while going against my guruji. So look for the company of guru's sangat and forget about relatives. Fateh!
