1. i just want to say thanks for sharing the life of this great soul... i wish i had known of him before he left the world...
2. i thought only keshdhari sikhs could vote in sgpc elections? if that's not happening through corruption then we need to raise our voices. i think this is the difference between SIKHI and SIKHISM.
3. read it properly obviously it's not a joke. it's a genuine question i have the same problem maryada says that a body may be disposed of through fire, water, or burial. we're not supposed to be hung up on rituals. when the kes falls, it's no longer part of our living being, right? gurbani says that wtihout the soul, the body is a shell, it's dust. so deal with it however you like, but don't ritualize it. collect what you can, but if some goes down the drain or into the vacuum, then don't stress. god is pretty forgiving. do your best and don't freak out about the little things. we should focus more on naam and nitnem, less on dust.
4. lol... ya, they're pretty interesting, but no. i'm talking about the pentacostal christian church. an extremist christian movement that has HUGE churches, churches so big they use giant TV screens so everyone can see/hear the preacher... they have universities, television stations, politicians... and they also have bomb makers and people who beat up women and murder doctors. they say things like, 9/11 happened because moderate americans... i mean, come on! do we live in a democracy or a christian theocracy, where everyone who is not christian (and to many christians, anyone who is not white) is satan's spawn and their sworn enemy. they don't just hate jews, they hate sikhs too. check out their conversion tactics in punjab... they said that 1984 was God's way of punishing the Sikhs so that the christians could come in and covert us more easily. WFT? seriously, they're more dangerous than muslims because we're not afraid of them! at least we're careful about muslim terrorists. but no one even notices the christian next door may be a terrorist too!

5. Its easy just posting a bani quotes. But do we really see those things as just dust? If those are just dust so are our kirpans, kare, kangeh , clothes etc... If someone has the sharda to create and take time to create Guru Sahib out of Gold so be it. We shouldnt worry about what people do with their money. Instead think what are we doing with ours? disagree to the first point, agree to the second. our kakkars are not dust because they are gift, and hukam, of our Guru. but you're right, if someone has the time, love, and money to do this work, then sure they can do it. agreed we should spend our own money more wisely. again i have to state, i'm not disagreeing with the idea, i'm just questioning it. i have a bad habit of asking questions and trying to learn.
6. sikhs elect members of the gurdwara management committee... the dread SGPC. SGPC choose a jathedar based on certain criterian. so jathedar of akal takht is essentially chosen based on who sikhs elect to the management committee. so if we are careful in who we elect, then we will get a good jathedar. it's our right, our responsibility to elect good officers to manage our gurdwaras. unfortunately, many sikhs are swayed by pretty promises or bottles of booze, and so we get wrong people managing our gurdwaras. it's an imperfect system, being run by men and all. but it's up to us to change what is broken.
7. actually, i'm not trying to solve any problem at all. i just wondered why. are we allowed to question things in sikhi? as long as i don't question my guru, i mean. (sorry, the smilies are to show a light-hearted tone, so people don't take everything so seriously!) why have a golden temple? i've wondered it many times. Guru ji didn't make it gold... a repentant king did it to give honour to his Guru. and that's ok with me. why cover Guru ji in sumptuous cloth? because it's our Guru. easy enough. but why remake Guru ji's body in gold, when he himself didn't do it? Guru Gobind Singh ji, Guru Arjan Sahib, either one could have used gold to make Adi Granth, but they did not. the whole reason we have Guru ji in the form of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is so that we can commune with him, learn his teachings, listen to his hukam. and who's going to read the golden bir? certainly not lowly creatures like me or you. so if only special people can handle this bir, won't that create huge issues of ego? nevermind, i'm loosing my train of thought. i'm not saying it's wrong. i'm just asking why. which i believe is my right as a sikh(student). (once again, smiley is to show light-hearted tone) if that's what my guru ji tells me to do, then why not? there's no reason to hit yourself in the head over hukam.
8. i don't hear muslims doing it in nationally televised political ralleys either. but go inside a pentacostal church and yes, you will hear exactly that. these guys bomb women's health clinics, murdering innocent people, to prove that abortion is wrong. they're no less terrorists than their muslim cousins. only difference is the muslims have less political power in the UK, while the christians control the US.
9. sikhiwiki? seriously? sorry, it's not my idea of a reliable source. i can tell you what maya is. maya is everything other than Waheguru. maya is a curtain of illusion that separates us from the infinite. maya is anything that encourages duality and distances us from God. if everyone thinks a gold bir is a good thing, that's fine. i was just wondering "why". i guess i should take answers from gurbani rather than men. rqn pdwrQ mwxkw suienw rupw Kwku ] rathan padhaarathh maanakaa sueinaa rupaa khaak || Jewels, treasures, pearls, gold and silver-all these are just dust.
10. apparently you missed part of my statement. most sikhs use SRM as a BASELINE, a MINIMUM, and then add on top of it. wearing keski and being vegetarian is NOT against SRM. i don't know any AKJ sikh who breaks SRM. going above and beyond is not the same thing as going against it. if you still don't understand, let me know and i'll try to use smaller words.
11. It is the rehit maryada of the panth that the SGPC recognises, and not the rehit of the akali nihang singh khalsa! Does AKJ really follow the SGPC rehit maryada? why not ask them? http://www.panthkhalsa.org/rahit/rahit.php
12. Guru Arjan Sahib might disagree with you. I'm sure Sri Guru Arjan Dev Sahib would say "yeah give the monarchy of the Panth to the filthy malesh British lapdog/bloodsuckers of the Sikh populace S.G.P.C "rather than the Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib anointed Akal Sena a.k.a the Baba Budha ji ordained Panth Patshah who has historically always been the Jathedar of Shiromani Panth Akali Buddha Dal, Nihang Singhs are the ONLY Guru-ordained institution of Sikh Theocracy as even Sri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj was himself an Akali Nihang and even Maharaja Ranjit Singh was himself subject to the punishment meted out by Jathedar Akali Poolha Singh ji. SGPC is a political organization with a politically elected leadership. if you believe they have stolen control of akal takht, then you should either steal control back, or vote for SGPC leadership who will fix things. better yet, run for SGPC office and hand control to someone who was born into the right family/dal. i don't see how simply deciding that akal takht has no authority helps the panth...
13. if everyone misunderstands your post, perhaps the fault lies not with the readers? maybe try restating it in simpler terms that stupid people like me can understand?
14. ya, lots and lots of ekta. who's that lady with the weird hair, right next to yogi bhajan? :o
15. that makes more sense. there's a tiny kadha (baby sized) that keeps getting passed around at my gurdwara... whenever someone's baby outgrows it, they pass it on to the next woman of child bearing age.
16. Greetings apne jio, you may have read my post but do you understand it ? i am not saying whether the above mentioned holy books are comparable to the sri adh granth sahib. as i am sure members of other religions would say the same as you but probably in a better way !! i am simply putting forward a view of whether some people on this forum, would have the same view of if a muslim was to write out the holy quran in gold and also if i do think about how other religions conduct themselves with their respected scribes it is not for you to tell me that i am wasting my time regards dilrubarb hindus have gold idols. christians have gold cathedrals filled with 2000 years of accumulated wealth stolen from others. muslims i don't know about... but do any of these religious say to "treat the mouth of the poor as the guru's cash offering box"? why does it matter what other religions do? shouldn't a muslims worry about islam, a christian worry about christianity? sorry, i guess i don't understand the reason for comparison?
17. this is true. some contributors were in jail (Bhai Randir Singh ji - this is probably who pure veg is not in the final draft). also some did drop out because rather than try to compromise they let their ego lead them out the door. but it's still the only panthic rehat maryada we have. and for many of us, we were ordered to follow it by panj piyare. if we, the panth, do not agree with it, we should work to change it, rather than whining or making up stories about it. i think AKJ take a very rational and mature stance on it... it's the minumum, everyone should follow it at least, and then added some things on top of it, like dietary restrictions, nitnem banis, etc.
18. Guru Arjan Sahib might disagree with you.
19. um, if they're bowing in front of MAYA (gold) instead of Guru ji, i don't think it will get rid of any paaps. darshan is not just bowing your head to a bir. darshan is listening to Guru ji speak, understanding what he says, and acting according to his hukam. sorry, just my opinion. i'm in total agreement with you veerji!
20. you do know that many of us choose not to eat meat for other reasons than animals suffering? if they're suffering, it's hukam, we can't stop hukam by avoiding leather products. -jasleen (vegetarian and loving the leather seats in her car!)
21. if you are not being paid at a fair rate for your work (considering your experience, education, and quality of work; as well as the pay rate of other employees with similar experience, education and quality of work), then talk to your boss. if you just want more money, then seek a new job. better yet, seek a new job, get an offer at a higher rate, then take the offer to your boss and ask him to meet or better that rate. as long as you are honest and are not trying to get more than you deserve, then what is stopping you?
22. waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh! congrats and good luck on your recovery and your chosen path. one bit of advice... you might want to wait till the methadone course is done before taking amrit, because methadone is an intoxicant in itself and should not be used by amritdhari sikhs. on the other hand, recieving amrit may be enough to end the methadone itself. Guru ji has given us a very powerful gift in amrit! it can and will change your life. waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh!
23. True. although karra prashaad di deg can be made and done bhog on when Guru Granth Sahib Jee is not parkaash. for example, keertan at somebodys home etc. cool, i did not know that.
