  1. The chart hasn't come out like i typed it (the spaces have messed it up) :umm: In one column it says Guroo - next column Body (ten saroops) - third column = first 5 gurus revealed Baani, and 9th Guroo revealed Baani End of chart showed Guroo now is Shabad Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (for Eternity) and the body is the Khalsa Panth (for Eternity) looking at the post - i assume probably ppl will be confused! sorry!
  2. GURU = one who brings is from darkness to light (i.e. an enlightener) In Sikhi there is only one Guru - and the one Guru can never die because it is the Shabad Guru. THe Shabad Guru, the Jyot was manifest in the Das Saroops, Ten Masters. The physical Guru became the living image of the Shabad in guiding the World. This is what a Speaker showed us on a Sikh Youth Event - (i don't know whether I can show it properly like he did - but i will try). Guru Nanak Ji says: "shabad guroo surat dhun chelaa... The Shabad is the Guroo, upon whom I lovingly focus my consciousness; I am the chelaa, the disciple." Shabad Body | | GUROO - NANAK Ji (b. 1469 CE) | | }The first five gurus GUROO - ANGAD Ji }revealed the Shabad | | }as well as being the GUROO - AMAR DAAS Ji }living image of the | | } shabad GUROO - RAAM DAAS Ji | | "Pothi Sahib" - GUROO - ARJAN SAHIB Ji (Here the Guru is in Living Image in body and also shabad is living in the recorded word) | | GUROO - HARGOBIND Ji | | GUROO - HAR RAI Ji | | GUROO - HAR KRISHAN Ji | | GUROO - TEGH BAHADAR Ji (also Revelation occured) | | GUROO - GOBIND SINGH Ji (In 1699 the Khalsa was also made the body of the Guroo) NOW AT PRESENT: | | GUROO KHALSA PANTH GRANTH SAHIB Ji (the body which lives the shabad) (the Shabd Guru) - eternity - eternity One jyot, one light, one message - revealed by Waheguru - alive 500 yrs ago, alive now, and will be forever alive. I don't know whether that makes sense or not - but when the Paaji who gave the lecture showed us, it was quite. I apologise if i haven't done justice to Paaji's explanation! food for thought

  4. very sad agree with rsingh! Shaheed Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa, Bhindranwale:
  5. There is a beautiful saakhi, story about Baba Ishar Singh Ji, which I read on the Internet. Baba Ishar Singh Ji was a very spiritually enlightened Gursikh of the twentieth century. Baba Ishar Singh Ji would go traveling. In particular he would like traveling to graveyards, because they are very quiet places and reminds one of death, which in away puts a perspective on our life and makes us realize reality of life that maya, our worldly possessions will not accompany us when we die. On one of his travels, Baba Ishar Singh Ji came across a village graveyard (belonging to Muslims). Usually graveyards are somber and a bit dull because it is overshadowed with death and sadness. However this particular graveyard was different. The graveyard was well kept and looked more like a garden of life than a cradle of death. It had shady trees and beautiful flowers. It was mid-morning. Baba Ishar Singh Ji started looking closely at the tombstones and the graves. On each stone is stated the person’s name, the year of birth and instead of when they died it said how many years they had lived. He was astonished to find that most of the people buried in the graveyard had only lived just under twenty or so years. No stone could be found which displayed more than thirty years of life. There were some gravestones, which displayed ‘zero years of life lived’. Baba Ishar Singh Ji was curious. He thought he would explore this ‘village of children’. The village must be full of all old people. The children must have either died of disease, or mass killing or something. However the village had young people, old people and people of different ages. The villagers looked very respectable and friendly people and carried a heavenly glow on their faces. Baba Ishar Singh Ji approached some men. He asked: "Respected gentlemen, I have seen many places and many people. But even at the most holiest of these places I could not find the life and love that pervades this place. Perhaps I am in a dream…" They all smiled. Baba Ji then continued, "I would very much like it if you would kindly explain this rather strange place. I was also very intrigued by the graveyard at the entrance of the village. Is it where you bury your young ones?" After a short pause, the most elderly man spoke: "Traveler, you look like a man who would benefit much from the story I will tell you. Listen carefully and it will change your life." All the men around sat attentively. All the villagers within earshot came and sat to hear the old man speak. He began, "My grandfather was the Kazi of this village. Each morning, well before sunrise, he would call out to the people and to the heavens with his namaaz (Muslim call to prayer). One such morning he was in midst of his prayer, when he heard music from the outskirts of the village. He was a devout Muslim and was quite horrified to hear music at such a holy hour. He immediately sent some of his followers to put an end to this paganism. But to his surprise, none of them came back. The music meanwhile continued. After a long wait he himself decided to put an end to this unholy activity. So, quite angrily, he strode towards the music. But the closer he got, the more he realized that it wasn't his anger that was responsible for his hurried strides, rather it was the exquisite beauty in the music. Finally when he got close enough to see the music makers, not only did his body lose the ability to move, his mind too stopped the madman's dance it had been doing since his birth. He literally stood rooted to a spot for the duration of the recital. The music cast a spell on him. He travelled inwards to subtle places he had read about only in the scriptures. He would often look back at that moment and dreamily acclaimed, "I drank life to the fullest during those hours". There was a long pause during which the storyteller and the story listeners let the stillness of the story enter the depths of their beings. The elderly man continued: "The music makers were the great Guru Nanak Ji and his companion Mardana Ji. I am sure you have heard of him." I meekly nodded and mumbled, "I have, but haven't had the grace of meeting any of his followers". "That is perhaps why, my friend, you are here," the man prophetically said. "At the end of the recital, my grandfather and all the others present simply surrendered themselves to the Guru. This was largely just a symbolic act because the moment each of them had seen the Guru they had lost themselves to him. Guru Nanak Ji graced this village for three days and three nights. My grandfather named those days the "stillness days" because he said it was during those days that he and others learnt about the One, which can only be found within the stillness of the mind. We observe those days like others observe their birthdays. Indeed those days were the birthday of the village's inner life." He chuckled, "If you are impressed with the village now, you should see the love of the villagers in those fine days." "But, as is the nature of the human mind," the elder soberly continued, "it wasn't long after Guru Nanak Ji's departure that the village started returning to its normal numb and dark existence. This greatly troubled my grandfather and others like him who had become Guru Nanak's and Guru Nanak's only. They tried very hard, through teaching and preaching, to keep the message of the Guru alive. Finally, after all normal means failed they came up with the following village tradition: Each villager keeps a diary. It is mandatory that each night before sleep, each person makes an entry in the diary. Even children and people who cannot read or write have to get this entry made. The entry is simply the amount of time during the day that was spent in Simran (remembrance of the Lord) or in Seva (selfless service). At the end of the person's life, the entries are accumulated and that, my dear traveler, is the 'years of life' entry you see on the tombstones." The storyteller paused to let the magnitude of what he had told Baba Ishar Singh Ji sink into him. He continued, "It is perhaps that which allows us to be free with our love. We are reminded each and every day what real life is. The time spent in Simran or Seva is the only life we consider as been worthy of been called life." Let us ask the question how much Simran of Vaheguru do we do? How much Seva do we do? Do we remember the One who created us, who has created and sustains the Sun through which we use to grow our food; the air we use to breathe through which live this blessed life? Guru Nanak Ji offered a simple formula for peace and happiness: Naam Japna (remembering the Dear Lord), Kirat Karnee (living and earning an honest living) and Vand Shakna (sharing with others, whether that is your time, love, money or food). Be inspired and inspire others. May Vaheguru bless you. manvir_singh_khalsa@yahoo.co.uk
  6. What is Simran? By Manvir Singh Khalsa Simran in Panjabi means ‘yaad karnaa’/ to remember. Therefore you can do simran about your parents, simran on your house, or simran on Vaheguru (the Wonderful Lord). When we remember someone, the rishta, relationship, between that person and us remains alive. When we forget someone the rishta, relationship slowly dies. You would have remembered some of the classmates you went to school or college with. Those people who you remember or they remember you, those relationships remain alive. However if you forget them or they forget you then the relationship falls apart. Simran/remembrance is very powerful. So powerful, that sometimes when I am at university, I feel the presence of my mum and feel her near me. This feeling prompts me automatically to ring my mum just to say hi. Answering the phone my mum says, “I was just remembering you, and then the phone just rang”. This is power of remembrance, the power of simran. When Guru Nanak Sahib Ji was on his journeys with Baba Mardana Ji, Guru Nanak Sahib Ji told Baba Mardana Ji: “Sister Nanaki is remembering me, perhaps we should head back home and see the family again”. Bebe Nanaki Ji’s Simran, of her beloved brother Guru Nanak Sahib Ji was felt by Guru Ji and because of this Guru Ji couldn’t resist but go back home from his journey. Nowadays we communicate to people through mobile phones and by text messaging one another. It is expected that if you send a text message to a good friend, that he or she will reply to your text message. On sending the message you would receive a delivery report on your mobile phone when the other person receives the message, stating: ‘message received’. Now if we text messaged Vaheguru, then we would expect Vaheguru, who is our friend, our companion or beloved, to text back. Simran is a form of text messaging on a spiritual level. If we text message Vaheguru, then Vaheguru will definitely text message us back. However, our message can only be received to the person we are sending it to, if we have reception. If our phone doesn’t have any reception, then despite how many text messages we send, the recipient will not receive any of the messages we send. Similarly if we have no ‘pyaar’, love, for Vaheguru Ji, then our Simran will not be counted for and we will not be able to experience the Lord. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji states in Swaarag Swaiye, one of the morning Sikh prayers, “Saach K’ho Sun Leho Sabhai, Jin Prem Kiyo Tin Hee Prabh Paayo…. Listen everyone I speak the truth, only those who have love will experience Vaheguru, God.” Without love, we have no reception. But when we have love, when we have reception, and then we send a text message, then the person on the receiving end will for sure receive the message. Depending on whether they are your friend or not, they will reply. Vaheguru for sure would reply to our messages if we do ardaas (petition prayer) or Simran (remembrance) with love. Communicating with Vaheguru is not impossible, though some people make it out to be. Vaheguru is manifested in the creation and sometimes works in mysterious ways. Sometimes Vaheguru works through the creation, and through the people to communicate to us. In Jaap Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji state, “Anek Hai, Phir Eik Hai – Vaheguru is many (meaning that he is manifested in various different forms), yet is One.”....

  10. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! I think Panjab Radio has a done a great job in educating the Sikh community about Sikhi and GUrbaani Especially Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Bhai Jasveer Singh and Bhai Satnam Singh - the Gurbaani show presenters are the jewels of the Sikh Panth - which have brought the Sangat together and joined them to Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Akaal Takht Sahib. :umm: However, i agree (and was personally shocked) when I heard the hair removal adds. I understand Panjab Radio is for "PANJABIs" hence Panjab Radio - its not KHALSA RADIO or SIKH RADIO etc. however, because Panjab Radio has done so much for the Sikh community and serves a vital role in educating sangat across the world about Sikhi - it is a responsible thing to do, that they remove all adds advertising hair removal or any other things which are incompatible with Gurmat. Food for thought.

  13. www.nirankari.org - check out some old photos of their ex-Guru - late Gurbachana .. there are photos of ministers, the president of india, and the prime-minister of india paying respect and offering support to this Pakandi Baba and his Nirankari Cult Radha Soami similarly - loads of MLAs, politicians and high ranking Indian Govt. officials show support by going to Satsangs, paying respects and given money donation or asking for blessings. wot more do u need to show that u r supporting them (directly or indirectly)???
  14. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! Paaji all I can say: "Respect yourself, and let their respect shine from you" If you scared, timid and not confident about dastaar - then unfortunately that will show! and people pick up on it and treat you accordingly. A silly example: there used to be a woman at work. She was really over-weight. However, she never found it a problem. From her personallity, how she portrayed and carried herself across to people, how she talked, walked and spoke... she was confident and never brought across the feeling "hey look - i am fat!". To be honest - people never thought "look she is fat!" - only once i thought to myself - "this lady is so overweight and usually people would take the mick or dwell on it - but because she is so bubbly and confident she doesnt allow the person interacting with her to think of her as fat, but to think as her funny or a good person" (another characteristic rather than her weight). Tips: 1/ Look in the mirror and say to yourself, and repeat a few time - "I am wearing a crown! I am the son of the King of Kings, Guru Gobind Singh Ji!" 2/ Walking to the interview think "i have nothing to lose - i get the job or don't get the job - i have nothing to lose! they (the work) need me, i don't need them!" (smile to yourself for at least 5 mins while walking or if thats too freaky for u then perhaps do that at home 'http://forums.waheguroo.com/html/emoticons/think.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='think.gif'> )... this will make your face muscles relax and increase your happy hormones 3/ Do Ardaas (prayer) - "Maharaaj I am yours. I have nothing to be affraid of. If you wish to give me this job, then so be it. If not, then you know best. Vaaheguroo all I ask is that with Your Grace I do my best in the interview and keep my head high and proud and keep faith in Your Will." :TH: Keep in chardikala and be confident Food for thought
  15. The Power of Gurbaani by Manvir Singh Khalsa In 1739 Nadir Shah came from Afghanistan and invaded India. Nadir Shah plundered India’s wealth and jewels. Nadir Shah captured thousands of innocent Hindu women and girls as slaves. Nadir Shah would return back to Kabul with the booty of wealth and thousands of captured women to sell. As the army entered through Panjab, the Sikhs would attack the armies at night time. The Sikhs would raid their looted wealth and riches. The Sikhs would free the innocent Hindu sisters and mothers and return them to their respective homes. Nadir Shah asked Zakriya Khan, the Governor of Panjab about the Sikhs. “Who are these people who dare to attack my soldiers and plunder me”, he asked. Zakriya Khan replied, ‘These are the followers of man called, ‘Guru Nanak’, their homes are their saddles and they visit their holy shrine in the middle of the night and disappear before the first light of day.’ Nadir Shah asked, ‘What gives them their strength to dare them to challenge me and my large armies?’ Zakriya Khan replied, ‘Their Guru has given them Amrit, ‘the water of immortality’, those who drink and bathe in this become fearless of death’. Nadir Shah cheerfully said, ‘We will stop them taking Amrit’ ‘We will destroy their Amrit’ ‘We will poison their sarowars (pools of water)’ Zakriya Khan replied, ‘We cannot take away their Amrit. When they are near water and recite their Gurbaani then even that water becomes Amrit.’ ‘So we will take away their Gurbaani! We will destroy their Gurbaani an d burn their Sacred Granth so that they cannot make Amrit’, said Nadir Shah. Zakriya Khan said, ‘We cannot take away their Gurbaani…’ ‘Their Guru is always with them.’ ‘Their Guru is in the form of the Shabad (Divine Word)’ ‘Gurbaani resides with the Sikhs of the Guru.’ Nadir Shah then said, ‘One day these Sikhs will be the masters of the land.’ ‘jh swDU goibd Bjnu kIrqnu nwnk nIq ] xw hau xw qUM xh Cutih inkit n jweIAhu dUq ]1] Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Keertan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak – the Righteous Judge (Recorder of Karma) says, ""Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death (Death), or else neither you nor I shall escape [from Waheguru]!""||1||’ (Ang. 256) Gurbani is love, which joins us with the supreme love. Gurbani is the divine truth, which joins us with the Greater Truth. Gurbani is an ocean of jewels, which makes us realise the jewels within us. The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the king of kings because it is the ultimate truth. The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the king of kings because its inspirational message is eternal. The Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the king of kings because it is the living voice and light of Nanak Guru Gobind Singh Ji. ‘vwhu vwhu bwxI inrMkwr hY iqsu jyvfu Avru n koie ] The Word of the True Guru's Bani is the embodiment of Truth; through Gurbani, one becomes perfect.’ (Ang 304) Be inspired and inspire others. May Waheguru bless you. manvir_singh_khalsa@yahoo.co.uk
  16. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! I think the last paragraph = When penji talks about there being two types of dreams May Vaheguru keep all the youngsters in chardikala and may we all be inspired from those in Singhs and Singhnian in past and most of all Guru Sahib... and then may we inspire others and inspire them to come close and feel the Guru's love! :TH:
  17. vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! We as Panjabis have a habit of hiding everything under the carpet or not telling people our problems. However just like a pateela (pot) with boiling water... if put the lid on and keep it on... the lid will explode sooner or later - so its better to take the lid off and let the steam go slowly and gently. "A problem shared is a problem halved" First of all - Ardaas and Hukamnaama - as Sikhs we speak and get advice through Guru Ji through Ardaas and Hukamnama - so that would be a start. I think your friend's family should get someone (a third party) involved - someone who the dad looks up to or respects or whose authority he accepts... so it could be grandparents, a relative, friend or gurdwara giani ji or someone. Get this person to mediate.... discuss "Kee gal hai ghar de vich..." Get everyone to talk - like a family meeting... good and bad - share (while being managed and moderated by the third party). Simran is good as well - as that gives us strength and Kirpa (Waheguroo's Grace)... however the grace and strength will ONLY work through us or people... so we need action Those are my humble suggestions Food for thought

  19. SHORT POEM by Manvir Singh Khalsa The dad picks up a barcardi bottle and asks for some glasses. Opening the bottle and pouring the drinks - the son looks on and says IS THIS SIKHI? Swearing and ranting, he goes "this is the life!" The son and mother, help the father to get upstairs to bed. - the son looks on and says IS THIS SIKHI? Waking up in the morning, "Waheguru, Waheguru" says the father. Having a shower and freshening up, the father says, "we're going to the Gurdwara?" Last night he was drinking and today he stands and gives a talk at the Gurdwara. "You go home. I have a Gurdwara meeting to attend" says the Father. - the son looks on and says IS THIS SIKHI? Coming home from the Gurdwara meeting, he goes to the pub. Drinking with his friends, "We put the Giani in his place!" he laughs. Dragged home by his friends, the door is knocked! Here have your father. - the sons looks on and says IS THIS SIKHI? Food for thought * What example are we setting our children? * What example are we showing the Sangat? * What example are we showing the outside world? How many Gurdwaras are being run by men like in the poem above? How many GUrdwaras have men like in the poem making Gurdwara decisions? How many Gurdwaras are following the Mat (guidance) of men like in the poem and ignoring the Guru's Mat? We pray for those people. "May Waheguroo bless them with guidance and the gift of understanding and following the Guru's Path."
  20. Totally agree with AMAN Hence the photo was on King's Sikh Soc website and not on SIKHSANGAT.com or posted all over other websites Hopefully people visiting Kings Sikh Soc website will realise and see other photos and find out when browsing through the website that the ex-president = NANAK SINGH so really there is no confusion. Obviously, if you post a pic like that on a forum where no-one knows the Sikh Soc in mention then it creates confusion and suspicion of disrespect. food for thought
  21. Muhammad Khan = a Muslim name Nanak Singh = a Sikh Name Prophet Muhammand (PBUH) = Muslim Prophet's name GURU NANAK SAHIB JI = Sikh GUru's name Paaji i think it could be a geniune mistake u made - but please be aware that the The baloon is not violating Sikh Rehat Maryada or showing any disrespect towards Sikhi
