  1. i am wondering if there are any records kept or information available on the numbers of sikhs that have taken amrit worldwide? i know a couple of guys who went to amritsar to do it, can it be done elsewhere? how many other places? can it be done at any gurdwara? thanks
  2. thats just defeated your argument there brother. ISIS (who are sunni muslims) dont believe that shia's are muslims. they call them things like "persian dogs" surely killing people is killing people - it doesnt matter if it is a muslim killing an muslim or a sikh killing a sikh or any combination in between.
  3. do all animals have souls? if yes then how small an animal that still has a soul? thanks for any help
  4. to take this point even further it could be said that all food should be ethically sourced and produced. so food produced by slave or low paid workers should be avoided. food which has resulted in animals habitats being destroyed should be avoided. food which has travelled thousands of miles should be avoided as it pollutes the planet. many other points could be made also. it will eventually prove too difficult to feed everyone i think. on a seperate point: members of many religions are allowed to eat meat and some people can only survive by eating meat (people living near the north pole/siberia and people living in jungles) so why is it ok for some people and not others? do meat eaters have zero chance of union with god?
  5. i understand your point but i ask this: what about the thousands of "sikhs" getting married each year who are not "sikhs" ie they eat meat/drink alcohol/drugs/gamble/smoke/cut hair/sex before marriage and a hundred other things. why are they allowed to get married in in front of sggs ji? why not introduce as a minimum that they should attend the gurdwara and declare that the have not or do not or will not any longer do these things? of course no one can enforce it afterwards but at least people will know what was declared and how well the person is living up to their guarantees. i will leave the fine tuning of this to someone else.
  6. i think the topic got locked for everyone. i dont fully understand your post above but from what you write at the bottom, does it imply that only sikhs, or even only true sikhs, will not remain in separation and will not suffer. ie everyone else will be in separation and will suffer?
  7. i never said that religion is like a football team. does everyone not think that their religion is best? who is to judge who is correct? or all they all correct in their own way? is the biggest one correct? is the smallest one correct? each religion is only correct to its own followers and wrong to everyone else on earth
  8. i dont think they count only as opinions. interfaith marriages are on the increase. this is a fact, not opinion. im not only talking about sikh related inter faith marriages - all faiths and races are increasingly having more "mixed" weddings. and secondly clearly if there were 1.5 billion sikhs worldwide living in places and mixing with other clearly there would be more tensions and killings involving sikhs - how can this not be the case. wether sikhs are mainly the victims or the aggressors - there would be more negative stories as even if sikhs were initially the victims they would stand up and fight. this may lead to them being called terrorists by others, or freedom fighters by others.
  9. if there were 1.5 billion sikhs worldwide and in several large concentrations then of course there would be greater tensions and wars and killing. christians and jews and hindus and muslims have all committed religious violence against others. even buddhists, who are generally regarded as very peaceful and calm people have been involved in attrocities in myanmar/burma
  10. agree with what you say. criminals are criminals, every society has them. just as every society has charity workers and teachers. muslims outnumber sikhs 65 to 1 worldwide so we are bound to hear more bad stories about muslims than sikhs. big changes are taking place and inter faith marriages are on the increase, there is no stopping it.
  11. im not amritdhari so im not sure if i qualify. as to which is best, who can truly say? its all personal opinion, no different from debating which football team is the best.
  12. youre making a lot of judgements there, why is he more likely to dump her because he is a model? you dont think she is model material? clearly she did well enough to win. maybe he loves her for more than her looks, maybe he can see something good in her personality and her words and actions - is that not something to be praised? shouldnt we wish them well (or perhaps say nothing at all because it is none of our business?)
  13. so you would commit violence against someone who held a different view from yourself? is this not what was happening in india (and is still happening the world over) at the time of the gurus? and did they not fight against it so that people may practice their beliefs in peace?
  14. i wonder how many weddings their would take place in a gurdwara if this way of thinking was implemented? would probably lead to either a split in the sangat or a greatly reduced number of sikh adherents - more likely both.
  15. she is already married to her sikh husband, do you propose they get divorced?
  16. how do you know this? they may not accept guru ji as their father. maybe some do and some dont
  17. what should be done to sikhs that follow other paths?
  18. that isnt very sikh like. almost (but not exactly) like saying charity begins at home
  19. every religious adherent believes that their religion is the either the best one or the only true religion
