  1. I was wondering if anyone can tell me where i can find that picture/poster of Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Babbar that is the form of a Kill Bill poster but it says Kill Gill? I have looked on so many sites and haven't been able to find it. I would really really appreciate it. :T: Thanks in advance. WJKK WJKF
  2. hey, so does anyone know where i can find that image of shaheed bhai sukhdev singh babbar that looks like the Kill Bill poster? I believe that it says Kill Gill
  3. i really like the name tajinder . . . plus, then you can call her taji which is cute
  4. i know this is gonna sound cocky, but my boys and i are all gursikhs and we have absolutely no trouble with girls (sikhs and non-sikhs). Its because we are all so confident in ourselves. and i love what guruji's student said above. . . "they keep cutting the gift that GURU JI is givint them .. but guru ji still keeps giving although they keepgettin rid of it !1" and in reply to the second part of your post, i'm not sure exactly why its easier for our pehnjis to get 'away' with cutting their kes. (the fact that you termed cutting your kes as 'getting away' makes me think that you probably are not feeling sikhi anymore either). regardless, its an unfortunate part of the downward trend our sikhi is traveling in.
  5. i'm gonna go ahead and guess that you haven't studied sikhi and gurbani all that much . . . once you start reading gurbani and studying sikhi/sikh history you will start to gain a greater respect for sikhi and in your case, your kes. its seems like you might have some self-esteem issues and cutting your kes isn't going to address that. you are attributing whatever problems you are having to 'sticking-out' and your kes, but once you cut it your self-esteem isn't going to suddenly sky rocket. you are just going to find another scapegoat. you need to gain a pride and respect for sikhi and address your self-esteem issues. i honestly have a friend that seems to be just like you. he started by trimming his dhari and then eventually cut his kes. i can truthfully say that he didn't feel any better. if its the attention of the ladies that you are seeking, there are two things i have to say. first of all you dont want to be with a girl that doesnt respect your sikhi and girls love a confident sardar. g'luck pahji
  6. you know, i really didnt think that there was any way this topic could be controversial haha thanks guys. i'll check them out
  7. i was wondering what are some good dharmik geet albums other than the immortal productions ones? fateh :T:
  8. awesome thanks guys. and no harwinder you didnt confuse me haha. but i have a follow up question haha . . . how are you supposed to count when doing paaht? like, how am i supposed to know when to move one bead? how much of the bani am i supposed to do for each bead? wjkk wjkf
  9. this may be a stupid question but . . . whats the purpose of wearing a simranee on your wrist? i just never knew what the reason for it was. i thought a simranee was used for doing paaht, but even if thats the reason how is it used for paaht? wjkk wjkf ps. sorry for creating two posts about it, it was an accident lol
  10. i think pritam singh hit the nail on the head. i have def noticed that nights that a few times when i did sohila and wasn't really into it there was a difference in my sleep. now if i find myself wandering off while doing sohila I start over and do it with a lil more oomph. i haven't had a bad dream in a very very very long time. if you are in the middle of doing paath and find yourself just doing it like a robot, start over
  11. i'm down with eliminating the patka completely do you think we could get it put in the rehat? haha i will admit to wearing a patka my first two years of high school (which was about 6 years ago) and as soon as I started doing a pagri everyone was like "your turban is soooo much better!"
  12. "Its not hard to only wear a turban to the Gurdwara, I can see the people scared to wear a pagri on an everyday basis, but once a week for a few hours wont hurt anyone(if it does then you are not a Sikh)" i think those that are scared to wear a pagri on a daily basis do not respect or understand sikhi as much as they should. i know many of us get so much pride from walking around in a dastaar or pagri so why dont others? i think thats because we understand sikhi and have so much pride and knowledge of it. make sure every child understands and knows how much it took for sikhs to keep the right of having a dastaar and we would have a much different sikh society.
  13. i hate when grown men wear a patka!! do they not realize how absolutely ridiculous they look. you are embarassing yourself and sikhs in general. i think that for young children a patka is ok. a keski still looks better, but i dont have any personal issues with it. i dont think it takes away from or indicates the sikhi in that person. simple formula . . . as soon as you start to get any facial hair tie a dastar, pagri, etc
  14. i was thinking about something today . . . those of you that live in the uk or even in canada, it seems like a lot of people know that if they see someone in a dastaar or pagri that they are sikh. i mean, there is a much larger sikh population in the uk and in canada compared to the states. i live in the states and hardly anyone here knows what sikhi is. here in the states you never see a sikh on tv or in the media in general. what are your opinions on how much of the general public is aware that we are not muslims, arabs, etc?
  15. hahaha thats exactly what i do! actually, even when people whisper racist stuff or derogatory i let it slide, but a couple weeks ago i kinda snapped. i was in the car with a couple of friends and these goreys in the car next to us were clearing saying <banned word filter activated> to me and at first i did the stare thing and they kept going. thats when i snapped lol. i got out of the car (we were sitting at a traffic light) walked up to the car and told them to get out of the car, walked over to theirs and started calling them out . . . of course they all got scared hahaha. thats the thing, people will stare and even say stuff but when it comes down to it they dont have the balls to face you. in terms of staring, i know most people dont do it out of racism and stuff, but just cuz they are curious so dont let that get to you.
  16. Why is there this backward trend in india vs the west? I don't know about the uk or canada, but here in the states i know of more sikhs that have gone from being clean shaven to keeping their kes (including myself) than those that have cut it. In india its going totally backwards! I remember even 9 years ago when i decided to keep my kes, my relatives in punjab couldnt believe that a kid from america would do that. what i've noticed from my cousins and my visits to punjab is that the youth no longer is educated about sikhi. There are gurdwaras everywhere but they hardly know anything about gurbani or sikhi. It seems like one of those taken-for-granted situations. They are surrounded by sikhi all day so they forget about their own connection to waheguru. They forget about their own history. Its kinda like how i live 3 blocks from the Liberty Bell and the site of the first US congress and where the declaration of independance was signed, but its nothing special to me anymore. I never think about how amazing it is. I gain so much pride just through wearing my dastaar, so why dont they? actually in addition to that . . . i have noticed, even in this forum the elitism that many of us who dedicated to sikhi express towards those less dedicated. looking down and belittling someone for not being as panthic as you will do nothing but turn them away from sikhi even more. our job, no . . . resposibilty is to encourage others to come back to sikhi through the teaching of gurbani and our history. anger and degradtion will only break ones spirit, not build it. wjkk wjkf
  17. thank you khalsa4ever, but i still can't read the gurmukhi on my sikhitothemax program . . . i have the beta2 version of it so i dont know if that has anything to do with it. i just re-taught myself gurmukhi and i want to use it everywhere i can haha :T: any help is appreciated WJKK WJKF
  18. Hey guys, I've been trying to install a gurmukhi font on my computer so that when i use sikhitothemax software or read gurbani on the internet i can read the gurmukhi. I downloaded a couple font files and put them in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder but it still wont work on my sikhitothemax program or on firefox. Can you please help me. Thanks
  19. really? do you have the quote where guru ji says that there will be a war in 2020?
  20. veer ji that is awesome that you were able to stay with them. I have heard the same about their devotion to Sikhi. I just found another recording they did in Singapore, the download link is below. http://www.mrsikhnet.com/mp3/Chardi%20Kala...e%2012-2003.mp3 wjkk wjkf
  21. this past saturday i was at the sikh day parade in new york city and I i was shocked by what I saw. First of all, there were more clean shaven sikh youth than keshdhari ones! And on top of that, there were mundey there that were SMOKING!!! Its one thing to completely ignore the Gurus, but to have the audacity to do it at the Sikh Day Parade! I went up to a group of 3 or 4 "Sikh" mundey that were smoking and said "If you're going to wear the kara, put out the cigarette." One of them responded "Its not your problem." So I responded "When you disrespect my Guru and the whole sangat and pangat it becomes my problem." They had nothing to say and I walked away. I think, in terms of keeping your kesh, the issue is that people who do not keep their kesh are looked down upon and made to feel guilty or inferior, whereas they should be encouraged to keep their kesh. They are always attacked but never persuaded. You must first bring someone to believe in waheguru and sikhi before you start to talk to them about keeping their kesh. wjkk wjkf i also wanted to add that . . . Sikhs are loosing their pride. We are being influenced by what western culture tells us is attactive or appropriate. Its the reason why you see sardars that trim their dharis. Even our girls are developing aversions to marrying a keshdhari sikh. Why? I believe its because they have not been taught to respect sikhi and have been influenced by western ideals. Of course its easier to go through life in the Western world looking like everyone else, but since when was Sikhi about conforming and taking the easy road?
  22. i'm not sure if you have heard of the chardikala jatha, but i discovered a musical rendition of japji sahib that they performed and its amazing. they play at harminder sahib often and there is a live recording of one performance on sikhnet. the links to download the japji sahib and live performance at harminder are posted below. Japji Sahib Live Kirtan at Harminder Sahib wjkk wjkf
