  1. Just a suggestion. Should it not be called Gurmukhi? As that is the script. More Punjabi's reside in Pakistan, their script is Shahmukhi, which is also Punjabi.
  2. Singh, If you are doing this as seva, does your local gurdwara not have a gym? If not propose this idea to the parbandhak committe and the sangat. Surely all would be happy to have such a facility in the gurdwara if their is not already one. I know it depends on space but with Brum having a large Sikh community the Gurdware must surely have space to accomodate. I am surprised a gym is not already their.
  3. Lil Singh, Basically to be a successfull businessman you don't even need 1 GCSE. That's a fact 100%. Right you wanna open a gym. OK. Basic things are. Apart from capital i.e. money to invest. Firstly you need to rent some premises. Nothing fancy just a unit. Make sure it's half decent and CLEAN. A little reception area where members sign / swipe in. You will need a locker room / changing facilities and showers / toilet. The majority of your floor space will be where people will train. You need to think what equipment you want. Is it going to be more cardio or free weights. You don't really need an instructor unless you are going to offer personal training one to one. Most equipment is self explanatory to use, just give new members a quick induction on how to use them. You don't need a licence. MOST important thing is public liability insurance, as well as other insurance such as buildings etc. Thats just a basic input from me PM me i can give you detailed info on how to set up a business. Trust me school drop outs can become millionaires you don't need degrees'. Don't get me wrong education is important I have a Masters, but it's not the end all and be all. Youngsters like you can apply for business loans from the Prince's trust. Contact your local office. They will help you with a business plan and funding. There's also Business link. Prince's Trust loan intrest is like nothing, and they offer very good advice for youngsters who want to open new businesses.
  4. 100% serious answer. The person should take there holidays in India, Punjab. Please I ain't taking the mick. Both my parents were born in UK so at home I always spoke English, only with my Bibi I spoke semi-broken Punjabi and my grandad also spoke English / Pinglish. I used to go India nearly every year since my childood and that really helped me with the speaking and pronounciation, as I could understand it, just not speak it. Anyways it's not possible to go there every year so just conversing with people who speak Punjabi helps alot more than Dr J.S Nagra's Panjabi made easy. Thats where I started to learn how to read Gurmukhi last year, I can read Gurmukhi to a decent standard now. Seriously having people conversing with you in Punjabi really helps, my kids, don't speak very good Punjabi at all as we live in London, they understand but speak very poor. But my brothers family live near to my parents / Bibi and near their nana/nani so they speak good level of Punjabi
  5. WOW!!! Truely amazing. I have not viewed the videos but from your synopsis it seems to be coming from a truely enlightend soul !!!!! But is this not plagarisim of the great Osama Bin Laden and his associates view of Islam and them taking over the world? Lets be honest they do have a head start on us what with being the second largest faith and also the fastest growing. Just a question about the three religions. I understand why the largest religion Christianity was not mentioned or the oldest major religion Judaism, it's from the middle east, so not much infomation in the vacinity. But Buddhism originates from India so why was that not counted. Also it is a fact for a few centuries Buddhism was the majority religion in India, more than Hinduism for a while.
  6. My earlier post has been deleted so That refers to some of my comments, someone in admin thought were so bad they have been deleted.
  7. Does no one still feel this is not a very big issue? There was more outrage to http://www.sikhsanga...edbi-in-london/ It has been deleted! For those who did not read it (NOT EXACT WORDS I AM PARAPHRASING) - 'Basically someone posted a message about a barber having a poster of a Singh with a before and after of his first haircut. Many thought this was a real insult to Sikhi. Including S1ngh (admin), who advised the original poster he has the authority to use the WWW.SIKHSANGAT.COM name to tell the Tamil barber that 18 K members are offended and to take down the poster' Others posted the barbers phone numbers, shop name, location and even a google maps street view image. Then there was a comment by 'S1ngh' admin member that lets not contact the person directly? Why not just delete the personal details of the shop if you did not want other members to contact the person directly? BUT the funniest was the Oxbridge graduate, who must have some of Einsteins genes who suggested members to contact the local MP (what for?), and then boycott the business! YES boycott the barbers. I think many members do not live in Tooting, and the other small little thing might be is that most members maybe Amritdhari. My only comment was that the person cut his hair under his own free will. My question was why is it so offensive to Sikhi, as that person only represents himself not all Sikhs. Why was it deleted? Because I suggested this issue was more off an insult? ALSO why did Admin members not support this issue. Surely this issue is more of an insult to Sikhi than some random person with a before and after picture?
  8. Bro, where is your signature from? Whose quote is it? So true Shaheed-E-Azam S. Bhagat Singh, my true hero/

  9. Who do you thinks owns the SGPC? (not literally - ordeh burhee de dakhann tha ney hai but u know wot i mean). All these are just political parties we all know wot politicians are like! Be true to yourself. Be a good human being and only let GOD judge you for your actions. All these voting / politics - who benefits? You think they sit there propogating Sikhi and the best for the panth in the goodness of their hearts or the best for their bank balance?
  10. Thanks. I tried to post earlier but couldn't.
  11. PhenJi, Look for whatever reason you split up ok things happan. Sikhi condones alot of things who amongst us can truely say I am 100% Sikh Answer = no-one. Else we would not need to be living in this world. We would be in Waheguru's abode. So let me give some moral support, I know it will not help you, but phen please for just 1 nano second think your brother has his arm around you sharing your greif. I ditess parents equally men and women who think creating a child is a joke. To a baby you are god, you feed, protect, shelter etc. everything else. So what EVIL that is the only word I can say without swearing EVIL person can just disregard there own flesh and blood. I mean any normal god fearing person has a tear in the eye and you can't speak when you see some random child in pain, but your own BABY. EVIL, EVIL person. Phen do you have any family support, bro, sis, parents, uncle etc. If not is there an equivalent of citizens advice beurau in Canada? Google them in UK Google, and see what benefits, rights you are entitled too. Look phen theres always 2 side to a story I m only going on what you said. A baby just knows LOVE, only hate is taught. So please I know you are angry it's easy for me to say sitting here, but don't make your babies hate their daddy, they will learn for themselves, his deeds. Sorry bhul chuk marf, I hope no one ever has to go through what you have.
  12. Ain't that the new (1 year'ish old) Gurdwara in sparkhill ends? I been there they have a really nice modern / contemporary palki don't they. I had long converation's with a baba ji called Johal there, very helpful guy. Ask him he will inform you I think he is like the secertary. I ain't from brum but no they are east (Strartford Rd. A34(I think), Sparkhill) and west (Smethwick) of the city.
  13. Most Asian's I personally know who actually live in SA love it. Zimb is a bit messed up but apart from that don't just listen to the BBC world service. I work in media, i.e. not broadcasting but advertising so yeah I might not meet the average Joe from Africa in my office but I am real down to earth person. I have been many places, just by being humble, acknowledging people i.e drivers, porters, peons, door man etc, you get a real sence of people atitudes and outlook on life. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth but have never EVER forgotten what my pops & pie -a - gee (grandaddy) instilled in me and taught me. NO human is supperior to another we are all EQUAL. That is socially & in GOD's view also. So any person can live anywhwere and make a sucess.
  14. Does it matter? By the way is shastr ur real name? gurdssingh - Gurds my nickname (half of my first name). Singh my surname even though I am also Sandhu, which I don't use. Bro I'm with you I been to jwala mukhi, chintpurni and naina devi I had my hair covered with rammal at all places, I think it is a punjabi triat to respect all religions, of our motherland. Sikh, Hindu, Muslim. Buddhist, Jain, Christain etc. But don't hate on others, ALL SIKHS HAVE HINDU OR MUSLIM ANCESTORY. At one point most of India was Buddhist. Stick to your beliefs BUT WHY DISS YOUR OWN FOREFATHERS? BE A GOOD HUMAN BEING THEN A GOOD * (* = YOUR FAITH). Also why do members on here think if your surname is Singh you are Amritdhari? Singh is a surname Sikhs do not have a monoploly over, centeruies prior Hindu warriors used Singh as a surname, many Hindhus (non-Punjabi still do). All Punjabi's can wear a pagh it is cultural. Before 1469 many did. Only in the last 100 years more so 50 years things changed. EDIT: Why would wearing a pagh be misleading? All people of the Sub-continent wear turbans, Rajisatanis still do! Punjabi's were famous for wearing pagh's. Only recently it is more of a religious thing. Don't hate on me it's TRUE. Before SIKHI was the pagh/ dastar etc. invented um!! YES it was.
  15. AHH! We won, But still bottom, What's view on the IPL? Who's gonna win, u gonna follow? Mumbai cos of Bujhi?
  16. WOW! This issue does not matter to anyone or does it?
  17. Is there anyway the minutes or notes can be posted to others if we provide our e-mail or house contact details. Please I will not be able to make this event but I have questions and need answers, whom do I need to contact?
  18. VJKK VJKF, I know in Brum, there is the Amrit Parchar Gurdwara on the Birmingham Road, Oldbury. It's like if you come from of the M6 then take M5 towards Brum , Junc. 1 then instead of going towards Smethwick / Smethwick High St. Opposite direction towards Oldbury, under the flyovers (EDIT: thinking about it actually ain't that the M5, one of those flyovers?) there is a Gurdwara, Amrit Parchaar, not sure the exact full name but it's along those lines. They have Amrit ceremony every month, ring them or google and get contact info and find out. So I presume because of this they will also have one on Vaisakhi. Sorry not exact help but it is a starting place. I only know they do Amrit ceremony every month cos I seen Gatka there, very impressive training and tutuion there. I have family in the area that is the only reason I know. Bhul chuk marf if I have given wrong info. As far as I know it is correct, please do correct if i'm wrong, as that was what I was told, also it says something about Amrit ceremonies taking place once every month in the main foyer as well. Sorry not from Brum, so not 100% sure. But on Vaisakhi, area's with large Sikh communities will have Amrit initation cermonies, wont they?
  19. Hi, I am not sure if anyone has posted this before so sorry if you have, I couln't see it anywhere. Please just take it for what it is just a bit of fun, don't take it too seriously it's not meant to be. I found it hilarious the whole website is preety cool, also. http://sikhnerd.com/sikh/20-types-of-gurdwara-goers/ By the way which did you spot today?
  20. WJKK WJKF, Sangat ji, can someone please help. I am looking for some inspiration form SGGS Ji, which portrays the following message: A human can hid his actions, you know with cover ups, hiding stuff etc. so others will not view them in a bad light, but the almighty GOD see's all and so if not even one person knows or 6 billion people know. Does it really matter? GOD see's your actions. What's the point in hiding your actions. Surely the bigger person admits there mistake and then does not try to cover up. No matter how trivial the action may seem. Many thanks in advance if anyone can help. I am sure this is a universal message, but I was just seeking from a Sikhi perspective.
  21. Your opinion you welcome to it. Which freedom fighter do you hold in high regard is it BAPU JI !!!!!!! Hope you are not making your assumptions by watching those bollywood movies! Read history of the Simon commision, they decided if India should have independance. When in Lahore, in a protest Police killed Lala Lajput Rai. So, yes they were meant to kill Deputy Inspector Scott, but insted killed Assit. Superintendent Saunders. So they protested and fought against freedom of their motherland. Also then read or research about 8th April 1929, Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh & B.K Dutt throw bombs and hurt no-one by purpose, in the Central Legisatrive Assembly. Where he showed his face even though he was in hiding to protest against defense of India act. And was arresseted by choice. What about the other two shaheeds Rajguru and Sukhdev they did not read Gurbani but all THREE HEROES faced the noose with open arms (not physically), what made them strong?
  22. Love the signature - Going to check out that author.

    Need Advise!

Just viewing from another angle. If it's that easy to happen how many others have you both done it with? Look i'm not judging or looking down, we all have desires etc. But seriously think about std, and pregnancies. I'm very liberally minded but i am so against abortion. Just imagine that soptaneous moment lead to the creation of a child? what would you have done, so my only advice to you is if you gonna do stuff like that no-one here can tell you not too, it's your choice, but just use precautions and think of the consequences. Just say it happens again with someone else you don't know very well, and they have hiv or aids then was that lustful moment worth it? So if you can't control and it's easy to say don't do this don't do that, in the heat of the moment and depending on circumstances things do happen for good and bad, but just be careful. Your life and creating anothers life is no joke.
