  1. ok i may have got the wrong end of the stick, but doesn't Guru Ji tell us that in every human being there is a part of God? so therefore we shouldn't treat anyone as tho they were less than anybody else? i think that when Guru ji said ' do not think of any difference between me and the Lord', they meant, do not treat anyone as tho they were any less than anyone else, cos in each and every person, there is a piece of God. everyone is equal, that is why we take amrit from the same batta. I may be wrong, but its jus my thoughts on the matter!!!
  2. wjkk i duno if i beleive in astrology, although many of my family members do. i like to know about it, after all theres no harm in knowing about something. my 'research' on it stops at reading my star sign in the paper on the bus!!!! itz jus interesting to know about. wjkf
  3. hmmm, ok. but why is it that when we take lavaan (vows infront of Guru Ji) that the woman always follows the man around Guru Granth Sahib Ji? that is symbolic in itself i was told, that it shows that women should follow their husband, whether they are right or wrong (even though i personally find this a lil hard to accept). but newayz, thanx for the info, much appreciated.
  4. wjkk wjkf If I’ve got the wrong end of the stick then am sorry, but this has been playing on my mind, and since I myself have come of age, I wanted to know what the basics of marital attitudes are. All Sikh girls, as soon as they come of age, are taught that they should look upon their husband as their ‘Guru’. I AM NOT trying to refute this, only I am a little confused about something. Sikhi, (as I have always been brought up with), teaches us that men and women are equal. My question is, if men and women are equal, how is it that women are supposed to see their husbands as their Guru, and therefore their superior? What is the reasoning behind this? wjkk wjkf

  16. Wjkk Wjkf u no wat, i dnt tink ur quite getting ma point to be honest, etha that or ur jus not willing to accept that there is a fundamental difference between an arranged marriage and an assisted marriage, and belev me there is a difference. assisted marriages do not encourage dating, and do not encourage forcing ppl into marriage, it is a way that is well suited to both youngsters and adults alike, and proof of this is that many of the elders i no, agree that assisted marriages are the way to go. But newayz, since i dnt tink we gna agree on this, tink its jus best that we agree to disagree. enough said. Wjkk Wjkf
  17. ok how is this an arranged marriage???? arranged marriage is when neither boy or gal has cin eachova, or has a choice in the matter, but r getting married newayz becuz their parents say so. in assisted marriages, the parents approve of the partner first, then leave it up to the boy and gal to whether or not they wana get married. this is not exchanging sons or daughters, simply giving them a choice, whilst keeping the dignity of the family intact.
  18. Wjkk Wjkf It is true that our Gurus had arranged marriages, but nowadayz tings are changing abit. I think when ppl say arranged marriages, it scares them, bcuz they get the idea of their parents marrying them off to sum nx person they havnt even heard of, and this is actually quite a daunting ting, as marriage is a big responsibility in itself. in ma famly we go by assisted marriages, whereby my parents will find a suitable partner, and then in the presence of the adults (parents of the intended bride and groom), we are able to talk to the person and find out their likes dislikes, their views on Sikhi and life in general etc. To me, this is the best form of marriage for us, bcuz we are keeping our Guru Ji's, our families and our own dignity intact (finding our own partner is not the way to keep dignity in my opinion), but u are also not being married off to a complete stranger. nowadays most of the ppl i know and have grown up with have had assisted marriages, and this to me is the fairest and most efficient way to pair youths together, ready for their journey through marriage. 19. wjkk wjkf I strongly disagree wiv this, and am actualy starting to wonder what kinda Gurmat u are following. im not saying that im some Sant and that i have all the answers and know everything ther is to know, but what i do know is that Sikhi teaches us to view and treat all sangat as our brothers and sisters, doesnt it???? Isnt this y we take the gift of Amrit from the same bhatta??? So in effect, if u are saying that ppl shud not have frends of the opposite sex, u are actually going against Sikhi and therefore ur Guru. Ur statement implies that u feel that all Sikhs are unable to control themselves, and are therefore weak, and this i can assure u will definately offend some ppl. this isnt to say that some ppl are weak and wil fall false to this, but in the end, that is ther lekha dhena, and that is for them to settle wen ther tym comes. n dnt forget that BOTH women and men fought side by side in the name of Sikhi, for Sikhi. i hope i ent offended anybody in any way, but this is my belief, and that is to say that all sangat are my brothers and sistas, to which i hold very dear.
