  1. Can you please take the opportunity to inform attendees about the Sikhs in the Square event on Sun 6th Nov. And ask them to attend and to pass teh word around amongst their friends (Sikh and non-Sikh alike). Organise a mass Lon Met turn up ;-) Poster online at http://www.youngsikhs.org/6thnov or see http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?showtopic=14272 GurFateh PS. Can all Sikh Socs take the opportunity of such events to pass the word around - coach/bus loads of SIkhs from Universities (bring some DIY banners) will help make this even more successful and attendees will go away with more awareness of the issues and reasons to remember these atrocities and their victims.
  2. Also a benti to all Sikh Bloggers - please add an entry to your blog regarding this event - use the images from the postcard or poster as posted previously in this thread. Blogs are a very effective mechanism for distributing info. So stick it on your blog and add some infomation and keep it at the top or regularly commented etc. There's an example here ... http://solarider.org/blog which has the event as a sticky. (Ignore the rest of the ramblings/guff on that blog it's just a waste of time ;-) ) Or link to it directly as http://solarider.org/blog/?p=280 Pump it up for all it's worth - this is a most important event and needs everyone's attention.Just give ppl the information about the event and say turn up - no need to bog them down with the planning details etc as per this thread. Just tell them to turn up - twist their arms if your have to ;-)
  3. Met up with Bhaaji on Sat morning and collected posters. Posters have been put up in Gurdwara and Khalsa Sports Hall. Posters and postcard have been distributed to members of local Gatka Akhara and other youngsters. There is much interest and word is spreading. Youngsters will be distributing postcards in local schools. Coaches have been arranged. Gravesend sangat - coaches leave at 12 noon from near Clarence Place Gurdwara. Keeping pushing and cajoling - and impress upon people that their attendance is vital. Sitting around doing nothing is not an option.
  4. Start making your own banners as well - make an impact get noticed and help bring attention to this important campaign. 15,000 Sikhs packing out Trafalagar Sq - imagine the impact! Check http://june84.org for pictures from the demonstrations in June 2004 and June 2005.
  5. Front (again) and back of postcard - reduced to 1024x667
  6. Copy of poster - reduced in size to 1600x1134
  7. Yes something like that -I'm afraid I a "time slip eveloped me" ;-0 - JSK can explain - but it's not important here. More importantly ..... ..... Is that people recognize what an eloquent and accomplished speaker JSK is and how well he gets the Sikh point of view across in a manner that is highly effective. He is also a tireless worker in often thankless environments. This is often the case - it was pretty much like this at Operation Black Vote - where it was possible to put the home secretary on the spot from the floor. Again in a very highly effectiive manner. Yes we really do need more people to attend - but someone is always better than no one. It's just that more would be better (thou I am guilty in this instance) - but the main thing is that this encourges people to turn up for future events and not to be discouraged by low turn outs - but to come again to the next one (whatever/whenever that is) and to try and bring someone with you. 1 extra person each time has a great snowball effect. Stay in Chardi Kala GurFateh
  8. Highly unlikely that you will be turned away - packing the aisles is always a good option in such instances. PS. I lost the other person who I was bringing along - we're down 1 now ;-( Maybe I should bring 2 cameras to compenstate ;-) GDS - you better get a move on - or yooll be late - it's only 3500 miles - whats the hold up ;-) GurFateh
  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh At least 4 - I'll have 1 other with me. Oh and a camera naturally! GurFateh
  10. You can grab it directly from http://www.sikh.sjsu.edu/videos/news.wmv PS. The video is a news report that shows the harrassement that 2 Sikhs students suffer when they attend a ball game. GurFateh
  11. No problem - maybe we'll meet sometime in the future. And I'm sure you will do just fine - you've got got good teachers,
  12. This guy has been posting his gund on the net for years. I first came across him on the soc.religion.sikhism usenet group where he posted endlessly on Gnostism. He refers to that a lot. No one took any notice of him and he soon disappeared. Lately he has been spamming many Sikh mailing lists. Generally he gets banned and moves elsewhere. He always comes across as a very confused and mixed up bitter guy. I wouldnt worry about him too much. If he get ignored he disappers. But if you want to try and take action against his site ....then by all means go for it. Another possible approach is to put up a counter page on a well known site; get it indexed into google and then anyone looking him up or searching for known terms will also come across a well organised and coherent page that explains what nonsense he is talking. The latter might be a good way forward.
  13. I suspect I know what you trying to say - but I'll say this anyway ;-0 There are many very good Gatka fighters - sometimes there are competitions and the such like but I've personally never once considered who is the best and many of the fighters I know have never expressed an opinion like this. In my experience they all appreciate the skills of their peers to the uptmost and not who they are better than. Within an Akhara and across Akharas there is much much brotherly and sisterly love and respect for each other, the shasters and dedication of the Ustaads/Jatehdars. Everyone fights hard but very few that I know consider it as anything other than the Siphi side of the Sant/Siphai Sikh image. I see very little ego (sure some youngsters seem to have that - but they soon learn the 'old' guys are pretty tough ;-) ) Anyway no hard feeling - just wanted to say - it doesn't matter who is the very best - there're all good !
  14. And yes that is Teji Bhaaji (Uptej SIngh) and unless my eyes are deceiving me in the clips he is in, he is shown fighting with Herman Singh. GurFateh
  15. i go to the one in sri guru singh sabha seven kings (goodmays) Another one is in leyton check this for more info http://www.internationalgatka.org/bfs/BFS_...ation_Times.htm 123968[/snapback] That link is a bit out of date now unfortunately as it misses out some of the new locations. There are also Baba Fateh SIngh Gatka Akhara lessons in Gravesend (Sat) and Woolwich (Sun). If anyone needs details on these just contact me. I train with Herman Singh - got the bruises to prove it ;-) Bhaji I guess you were at the inter Akara tournament we had at Southgate last year? Maybe we met - or even fought? I have quite a few video snippets from some of demonstrations - not sure we could turn it into anything approaching the quality of this video but maybe we should try and get a few snippets out there. No promises - it's a time thing! GurFateh
  16. The only thing Subversive about this is the name. Nuff said.
  17. Excellent stuff. GNG is starting to use a screen more regularly now days. Still irregular as ppl get used to driving it and finding sevadaars who can take this seva on. But much better than before. Hopefully soon it will be a permanent feature.
