I was thinking about this the other day. We should be recording everything that happened for future generations just like Akali Baba Rattan Singh Ji Bhangu because all that happened is panthic history. Perhaps a volume 3 might need to be put in the works.

Yeah but 1984 is very murky. So is ranjeet singhs downfall era. We need ppl who lived thru it. Their accounts

After listening to katha, i asked myself if anything was exacerbated by RSB, and the answer came that when my grandad, my dad or other family members talked about post 1984, they never changed any facts or parts of stories., the reason is because they have lived through them. Even I have asked my naani about partition and she always told the same without changing any aspects. My conclusion is that when you live through something, you don’t change. Also, as there was no social media, stories stayed intact.

You should really record these events as told by your family. Either as voice recordings or even better in written form. As we rely on bhangus account so will futute generations.

And if you dont tell the real true story and the glory and the fairy tale accounts of 84 will be remembered. About how 200 singhs fought a whole army and the kharkhoos were these supermen.

We need the truth with the nitty, gritty details to survive. The plight of the commen ppl must be known.

Bhenji, Please feel free to direct PM, if you want to discuss in more detail and only if you are comfortable. I have seen several couples go through similar situation as yours, this is why I feel direct PM will be better. The positive is that many do come out of it and many marriages like these are resolved on their own time and remain happily married. In worse cases divorce happens.

I have sisters and cousins who as westerners have married indians. So please share ur advice openly. I think it can help a lot of people.

There is a big cultural difference. Like i know an indian women and her only condition upon marriage was that yhe husband not yell or humiliate her in front of people. If he wants to yell her or hit her he can do so in private.

I was shocked. As a westerner that is such a low standard. Most women here would expect the husband to he constantly asking about their welfare and being kind. And showing his appreciation through gifts and helping with the housework.

I think indian women have low expectations and know they are getting another relative/relation which will be filled with problems.

Also to the OP. There was a divorce lawyer i think. She believed divorce was was good. But after years of getting women to divorce, she realized she had made a mistake. She wrote a book about it and said the only reason divorce should be done is abuse, and adultery. Because the women were always worse off after divorce. They would not find a better person to marry. And being a single mom is hard.

Is there any benefit to taking cold shower?

Yes. In fact it is the maryada for many jathas and sampardas such as gurmat bibek a type of akj. It speeds up the heart kind of like aerobic exercise. Gets the blood moving stimulates stress response lol. And it really wakes u up and get the simran going. Wahegurrru ;) And look up wim hoff, he made a career out of this. When gore get into something they go all in.

  6. If we want sikhi to survive long term into centuries, then yes we need panjab. Because we have panjab,.we can safely neglect teaching our children panjabi, keeping  copes of our sceiptures, teaching our kids santhiya or maryada. Because we can rely on ppl from panjab and babas in deras to do all that.

Imagine, the future was only in the diaspora's hands. Would we be able to do what the jewish ppl did for over 2 centuries? Keep their torah, hebrew, passover holidays, sabbath maryada etc alive?

Look at the threads we have: is it okay to let our kids celebrate christmas, during the time of shaheediyan?

In theory it is possible to keep a religion alive without a homeland as the Jewish ppl did. But honestly, I dont think we panjabis or sikhs could do it. The jewish ppl in the beginning were known for being niaareh, different. They did not assimilate and were hounded for clinging to their different language and traditions in Europe. I think this lasted as long as they were nomadic and leaving as groups. But when they started to settle they started to become lax.

Sikhs already are assimilating. Intermarrying. Forgerting their traditions. Also in most sikhs, panjabiyat is stronger than sikhi.

  7. Yes. They do. I know a family from america who sent their daughters there at a very young age. Like 4 and 5 years old. It was terrible for them because the caretakers of the kids are random village women who are not that into sikhi. And the kids got lice. This was about 20 years ago, so things might have improved.

Please only send your children if they are mature and older. Also if ur kids are boys, its better to send them to taksal to learn santhiya then to the boarding school.

Can you please find the exact quote?

Because if i remember correctly, bhai jagraj singh of basics said that in the ithihaasic granths it actually say aagya bhai akaal ki tabi chalaayo panth. Sab sikhan ko hukam hai, guru maneyo PANTH. GURU PANTH ji maneo pargat gura ki deh. Jo prabh ko milbai chaho khoj ENA ME LAY

Oneitis is not good. I can guarantee that she was seeing other people far sooner than 3 years.

But it is good that you never went back with her, as the expression goes , "never root through the trash once the garbage once the garbage has been dragged to the curb"

She probably only wanted to get back to you because she saw you as her best option until she found in her eyes something better.

Haha. Such a typical Ranjeet01 response. Took the red pill abit too long. Now its addictive. It seems to have warped your viewpoint where you see everything in this primitive human brain way.

Im not picking on you, just one dimensional explanation of the world or one ideology to explain all, rarely fits reality

  10. Yes i think rather than respect, care of the elderly is more apt. Like parents care for their kids despite their ignorance and wrongdoings, similarily we should value and care for the elderly but not necessarily listen or respect them blindy

just like a compassionate parent can be kind to a bad child, same way a compassionate child can be kind to a bad parent or elder.

I'm pretty close to turning Vegan, the older i get the more by body disagrees with certain things, diary is pretty much at the top of the list, I've reduced my paneer intake (no easy thing in a Punjabi household) because i started getting severe headaches when eating it too often, i've gone over to plant/nut based milks, the only problem is Gulab Jamuns, damn that milk powder.

You should try the satvic diet as promoted by satvic movement youtube channel. Punjabis have big risk of diabetes..

I've been having some very strong meat cravings the last few days though, been veggie since for nearly 5 years now, so not sure where these cravings came from. Really fancy a Doner Kebab or a nice chunky beef burger, but I'm obviously not going to lol.

Could be due to deficiencies. Start taking iron b12 supplements or any multivitamin.. Also eat quinoa, has complete protein

On a more general note, I understand everyone has their own personal criteria, shaped by their own understanding and experience. I'm Amritdhari myself, yet most Amritdhari girls I have come across are completely immature and live inside their own bubble. And it's sad, because initially I wanted to get married to an Amritdhari girl, but I very quickly became disillusioned when I started talking to them. They know nothing about life or marriage. Of course I'm not saying all are like that (obviously), but most that I've come across are. And it really does sadden me to say this.

    What do you mean?

Go easy on that stuff. You're slowly being hinduized. Hinduism is as scientific as any other religion. Don't let hindu nationalists hordes let u think otherwise.

    ..

How much have you studied GGS in detail for that matter.

Again sorry if I sound overbearing. But I know how egoists hindu fundamentalism works

Whats ur views about sadhguru (jaggi vasudev/of inner engineering) I am fascinated by him.

I really like the yogic philosophy/science he teaches. It helps explains many concepts in indian philosphy and gurbani. Like how we have 5 bodies. Food body, energy body, mental etc, u k ow the sukhsam and asthool sareers that can actually feel pain in hell etc.

That we are currently in the 84th creation.

That 108 bead malas are used cuz we have 108 chakras we can control and stengthen.

Even thus, O Salya, the young and old, among the inhabitants of Sakala, intoxicated with spirits, sing and cry. How can virtue be met with among such a people ? Thou shouldst know this. I must, however, speak again to thee about what another Brahmana had said unto us in the Kuru court, There where forests of Pilus stand, and those five rivers flow, viz., the Satadru, the Vipasa, the ravati, the Chandrabhaga, and the Vitasa and which have the Sindhu for their sixth, there in those regions removed from the Himavat, are the countries called by the name of the Arattas. Those regions are without virtue and religion. No one should go thither.

We tend to look back and think our ancestors were saintly, people with high moral standards, but they weren't!  Punjabi people love to paint the past very rosy but in reality, it really never was.

Women were getting drunk and doing giddha outside their houses 2000 years ago, like w.tf !

We dont know the history of  panjab beyond a 1000 years ago.

Look at britain, they had so many different peoples and cultures, the anglos, then saxons, then normans, were pagans to roman catholics to anglican christians.

Look at spain from having moor overlords to baltic ppl.

I think those arratas were probably eventually conquered and replaced by aryans. So only the low caste probably have arrata ancestory.the low castes may includes jatts as well. Or replaced with other ppl. Im sure panjab had waves like aryans, greeks, turks, arabs, mongols, rajasthani. Panjabi ppl r the most mixed, in one family you can have a black looking kid, arab looking, chinese looking and south indian looking and whitish.. My family does.

Or this person is only talking about kings and city folk. Maybe rural folk were ok?

Also remember Ashokas kingdom stretched all the way to afghanistan, so at one time he may have had pathans being pacifist Buddhists and then they reverted.

So im sure panjab had many civilizing influences of which islam could be one as well. Thats probably what turned made the now recent panjabi culture. Of women being modest and hidden.

One of our first ancestors were probably tribal folks. You know practicing human sacrifice ans rain dances etc. To be honest, panjabi culture still creeps me out and reminds me of tribal things. Like hanging leaves on the doorway when a son is born, inviting khusre to dance, burning patole/dolls for rain, the kala jaadu.
