  1. To a Sikh, it doesn't matter whether the world was created in 7 days or if it is evolving from millions of years. What matters is the PURPOSE and gurbani tells us that it has been created and destroyed endless times. From what i remember from the white-mans schooling, it was made in 6, with God resting on the 7th day and then on the 8th day, man or Adam was created. -So it took 8 days until man was first on earth ! The nitnem tuk you are referring to, says exactly ''what you are doing!'' ?? It is pointing to the scholars, learned and pandits who debate about how long it took, when it was created, what day, month, year...etc.. The message is that we can all better each other in our debates and references, but ONLY HE KNOWS ......... ਜਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਿਰਠੀ ਕਉ ਸਾਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ Jā karṯā sirṯẖī ka▫o sāje āpe jāṇai so▫ī. The Creator who created this creation-only He Himself knows.
  2. I agree, these are two different issues as mentioned above. Somehow, i gather that as well as emotional scarring, the trust and faith you had in someone has caused some mental trauma. Anyhow, whats done is done and what happened, has happened. It's VERY important to dealing with the results/outcome/ and situation you are facing at the moment. This should be your priority because this is something that you CAN change, compared to the past. It seems like this mental trauma is what is giving you problems with concentration and attention. The anxiety and depression are there, but they are more underlying under some layers which makes it difficult to diagnose and for others to pick up or see It sounds like you seem to be mentally lost all the while. With this i mean.........I bet you can't sit down and watch a full 2-2.5hr movie, ......can't multi-task like making a simple cup of coffee and having a conversation at the same time.......You probably avoid getting into arguments or trying to explain yourself, and you probably set yourself time or free space to do some good like praying, paath, seva..etc.... but you can't motivate your mind to get moving....! Therefore, others probably assume or think that you are just lazy and bored but not stressed/depressed. If what i have mentioned fits the picture a little, then you should start making a diary log of what you tried to do.... and what happened instead, or the examples of concentration and difficulty you experience. Once you have these logged on paper, it will be much easier for a professional counselor to refer further and/or diagnose.
  3. I can't think of any occupation that demands a visor ?
  4. I agree here ! It sounds like you in UK and I can imagine the pressure and talks going on. The christmas party/pub culture or hotel bars...etc.. is VERY popular at this time of the year, and because it is the whiteman's culture,-everybody feels inclined to attend. It's a good way to meet the people higher up and even potential clients. In terms of professional development, It's sad to say that if you don't attend then it may have a negative impact in the future. This is because, people in power can easily single you out and kind of omit your presence in any future plans. Therefore, it is wise to attend, obeserve, interact and like Shamshere says above,...leave when they start getting drunk. It's usually in the first 45min/1hour, that any sensible conversation takes place have and after this they just want to have some intoxicated fun.-SO, it's also a very wise time to make your exit. Everyone will appreciate that you made the effort to attend even if you didn't stay too long, compared to losing 'office respect' for not bothering. P.S.- You should NEVER lie or make some excuse about looking after so and so, as someone mentioned above. I know it's a harmless excuse, but a sikh should never have to make excuses or exaggerate some event for the sake of explaining.
  5. Pardon my ignorance, but exactly where did i say slate anybody ??? So, why be questioning me on the assumption that I am only pointing at bad amritdharies and the few good monas, and making it seem that is the global picture ??? The FACT is that most amritdharies don't give monas the benefit of doubt. They immediately assume they are not good enough. ........This is one of the messages of my above post. Anyway, my question was . .What is a patit ?? does anyone actually understant what the term is for ? It seems, most of us think that ALL monas are patits !!!
  6. I thought a patit sikh is a fallen sikh. A sikh that has been initiated at one time into the khalsa but not kept his/her vows and thus broken/defaced their own amrit. I'm not too sure why some people refer to ANY mona as a patit, when that is not the case. As Chatanga mentioned above, some of them put more than their heart into the seva whereas some full amritdharies just walk around as if they don't need to do anything. Many of these type of monas that get involved in seva and many other activities ...end up embracing the khalsa eventually and become amritdharies. Do we really want to start segregating and ignoring them like brahmins do ?? Don't we end up putting them off and discourarging any hope of them embracing khalsa further down the path ? Has no one on here ever really come across a mona that is a sikh of the higher order, in terms of actions, devotion and conduct ?
  7. Most common are dryness as well as feeling quite drained with low energy. Everyone and every drug has side effects that are different for different people. You should continue but also make sure you keep your energy levels up with a balanced diet. Avoid carbonated drinks and drink water. I personally recommend a bottle of gatorade or powerade every day for that little extra boost.
  8. Is that in the shabad ? or am i looking at the wrong one. Anyway, with plants........Yes, they have life too but it's the consciousness of humans that makes us different. The plants may have a consciousness, but it's the awareness that makes us the doers to determine our future joons if not.
  9. You may notice it get worse because the gland function speeds up, and more acne will seem to erupt. However, this is only temporary and should get better after 10 days or so. I haven't taken it but I know enough about it to advise :biggrin2: From what you call it ("accutane"), I assume you are in North america, because in europe they call it 'roaccutane'. I also assume you have tried or were not suitable for teracycline, minocin, doxyycline..etc..
  10. Thanks for reminding us about the phenomenal decisions and actions of Bhai Mati das, Sati das and Bhai Dayal ji. Truly incredible, and we should stop, pause and contemplate on how they made those decisions with such certainity.
  11. No problem Singhji......Don't worry you haven't peed me off ! :cool2: We should embrace the the similarities and common that we have amongst us. Don't get me wrong, I too, have made wrong assumptions in the past, only to learn from them further ahead. I know what you mean about effort being difficult to explain because in effect it is about letting go and detaching as well. To make the effort to let go of all thoughts and immerse yourself with Guruji is not easy to explain. It's all about stages and sometimes we all doubt if we are doing it correctly. If you've followed some of my posts, then you shall be aware that i have been a late comer into sikhi. I was mona and typical trendy dude on the street all my life(indulged in everything and everyone) until i had that God given awakening. I am still learning and know that i will continue to do so. We can all help each other on this method of discussion and i have probably learned from members who don't even realise the impact they may have had on me. May waheguru bless you on this journey and I repeat, I don't hold the slightest negativity against you. I just don't do that anymore because i have made enough bad karams myself through a lifetime of paap. I don't need to create any more bad karams across the airwaves with people i have never met in real life. I know that i have so much good and bhagti to do before i get anywhere near balancing my hasaab. :biggrin2: Waheguru.
  12. Not being cocky here singhji, but i said earlier- Then in return, you implied that we can't keep makng effort.- however, i'm sure gurbani tells us about udham (effort) The you also said above, that you can't hear the divine nirgun without senses..... Singhji, you seem to want to keep knocking every suggestion i make and then contradicting yourself in the process !! I'm usually very calm unlike some other members and i don't often engage in this competitive EGO dialogue. This stuff becomes a drain on each others path and i have had my fair share of 'spiritual drains' If you sincerely find some suggestion i made as NOT per gurmat or sikhi, then please advise and discuss and we can all learn. I have learned a lot from just reading other well learned members posts on this forum. And there are a few very wise beings on here that benefit all of us. Sometmes, i also find that i learn a lot more by just listening and reading from others whilst keeping my own mouth shut ! :biggrin2:

    Chaur Sahib

Why have rumallas ? Why have chanini-canopy ? Why have a manji- throne ?? If you think it is about ''keeping the right temperature'', then you have got the completely wrong idea !!! Singhbj, i know what you mean about the mosqito/fly zapping machines.......but we have to think about disease and hygiene. Do you really want to have parshad that has fly droppings in it or maybe dead mosquitos ? If you know someone that has lost a loved one to something like malaria, then you will comprehend the advantages of having these insect zappers !
  14. I'm sorry but I disagree here. The anhad shabad is not about your senses or ears. You hear it when you take your surat as deep, deep within. You either understand this, or you don't. Talking about your senses and ears is the talk of missionaries I don't want to go off topic here, but you can discuss this on another thread.
  15. Gurbani is what is given to us by Gurus. Can you call anything outside this scope as gurbani ? If so, then what exactly ? What do you mean that shabad and guru jyot are the same ? What does 'Shabad' mean to you ?? Until these differences are not addressed, no understanding will be gained.
  16. I was referring to the Guru's bani specifically here. I mentioned that the shabad was present in creation from the beginning and is still present everywhere and in everything. In terms of the above and the Guru-Jyot, we have to equate that to the gurbani uttered from their mouths and written with their hands. This same SHABAD JYOT is present inour eternal Gur maneyo granth -Sri guru granth sahib ji. .....I think you follow what i'm saying ?
  17. Yes, pure jyot has no DNA unlike all living things in maya world. We have the problem that we can't recognize it. This is where we have to make the effort. You have to make the effort to be as per gurmat.....to simran.... to hear the divine anhad shabad within, because they are there in each of us, but we have made ourselves deaf to them......TRY and keep TRYING and you will discover your MOOL within. .
  18. Of course they did. But they had the same SHABAD JYOT which was passed as per gurgaddi. The VERY important part that you guys are forgetting is that they PROVED they were different bodies and different genetics ! What i mean is that it was the norm for any kind of gurgaddi to continue in the family lineage. This is because people used to say the same thing that we are saying above- that the bodies and gentics NEED to have been similar or same !!............WRONG. ..............They proved this by passing gurgaddi as per gurmat teachings and disciple and NOT by genetic/ family lineage. So, what i'm saying is that Hsing68 ji is absolutely correct ! I'm sure their physical behaviors were different. They probably all had different dhal/sabji as favourites.... got out of different sides of the bed..........left/right handed maybe?....wrapped their turbans differently.....etc...etc. BUT the WORD or shabad was the same in each. 'Shabad' means a lot more than just the written word. In fact, the 'WORD' means a lot more than letters spoken or written as we saw in another topic talking about similarities in the bible with references. But i won't go off topic with that now. When God created the whole of creation, the SHABAD was present from then.
  19. Correct. It's funny you mention that, because with reference to sidh gisht above, that is what Guru Nanakji points to as well, like you mentioned. In the lineage of Gurus, Nanak ji was 1st and that is where the pure jyot started. Straight from God to Nanak. Nanakji, then passed on the gurgaddi and jyot to the following lineage of Gurus. Therefore, HE will be regarded as the God -jyot swaroop, no doubt. Bhai Gurdas ji also mentions the same.
  20. You've got me confused here :stupidme: Do you mean that some of us maybe more gurmat (say 90%) compared to others (say 80%) ? OR Do you mean that ONE person's gurmat is NOT another persons, or One's gurmat is another's manmat ?
  21. A very debatable issue ! I have not researched or looked into this with depth, but for us beginners, i think we should primarily accept Guru Maneyo Granth ''Sri Guru Granth Sahib' as the eternal shabad guru and also the writings of Guru Gobind Singh ji in dasam bani, as well as Bhai Gurdas and Bhai Nand Lals works. Also note that Guru Arjan dev ji compiled all the pothis together as one(adi granth) and this included many works collected by Nanak ji, such as the bhagats, from what Guruji chose to include as bani on the basis of gurmat. Bearing this in mind, for example, we know that Kabir has many other works that kabirpanthis follow but are not and were never classed as bani or gurmat by Guruji and therefore were not included in Sri Guru Granth jee. Maybe, some of the better learned members can advise a little clearer and explain where there are doubts with other works of Nanakji................ Read Sidh Ghosht bani.( a conversation-dialogue with yogis and Guruji) You have to read it slowly and thoroughly, because at first it can easily appear as if Guruji rejects the practice heads on. However, after careful vichaar and consideration, you should find that Guruji primarily rejects the idea of being a renunciate and hiding from society. He gives us the message that one can still be living a grihisti jeevan, but finding and connecting with the Lord from within. It doesn't matter where the yogi sits to meditate, because it is deep within the nucleus of the heart that the true yoga or Union is found. This can be done in working society as a householder. My simple answer is NO, he is not against Yoga, but has different views on the actions of some of the yogis....no doubt ! Personally, I think that one of the most important qualities of sidh ghosht is that Guruji does not claim that they are not enlightened. He respects, talks to them without any doubts of their enlightenment. The rest is for you to interpret and find your own personal essence from it.
  22. This means that their old habits are still embedded in you. It also means that they caused you a lot of stress and anxiety at the time and they never even realised it. Funny thing is they DO realise it, now that they are dead. The message from this reoccurring dream is that YOU need to forgive them from your heart. What i mean is that you don't need to forgive them for their mistakes or whatever, but you need to forgive them for any anxiety/stress they may have caused you. To swear at them is not the way. You need to truly forgive from your heart so that NO karma from each other hangs on any of you. Make it clear to yourself that no bad karma or bad air/feelings caused by them, hang on your end, because you have TOTALLY forgiven and wiped ! I am pretty certain that once you have done this, then the dreams will stop and if you ever do have dreams about them, they will be much more pleasant !! You have to try and clear guilt and negative attitudes from your conscious. These things hang on there and are major contributers to your karma lekh. I know it's easy for me to say, but you should always try and remember people (especially if deceased) for the GOOD impact that they may have had on you. This includes your enemies or ones that you resent because of their actions.
  23. I left UK some years ago, but isn't this the same Gurdwara that millions was spent on building it. ? Wasn't this the record breaking gurdwara for total building expenditure ever in UK ?
  24. Going from darbar to darbar says that you can't settle and the fact that you couldn't devote too much of self into accommodating the giani, shows you are too attached to your world outside ! Dreams are about your subconscious giving you messages, Once your subconscious becomes aligned with conscious, then you are on the right path. From the little you say, it tells me that you are quite unsteady in trying to make the decision where you want your heart to settle. It's as if your heart is saying one thing and your mind and brain is saying the other. You have to try and learn to follow your heart and gut feeling until it's weight comes off your subconscious !!
