From what they’ve told me not much. But I don’t know if they tell me everything.  A relative says they just talk about Gurbani in depth, but when they went once when the main man comes from India, I asked if I could go and they said ok they would take me too. But they never woke me up and went themselves. I felt they didn’t want to take me, like hiding something from me. I don’t know, I’ve never been and wouldn’t want to now.

Ohi gal ho gai. They're not allowed to tell outsiders of what Naam they were given either. They're bound to secrecy. They talk about Gurbani but essentially they're just ripping it off and misquoting it. When it talks about Satguru, they say it's talking about their Baba.

I can see why they didn't wanna take you, like you wouldn't even know there's a Satsang planned, almost as if it's some underground meeting.

I gotta say though, their Dera is well nice lol!

I don't think it's rightful to name in Nihang Nitnem, you can name it Nitnem of the Nihangs. Nihangs don't own this nitnem, they may be known for doing it I am not entirely sure.

There is no proof in rehatname or history behind the nitnem so I don't entirely trust it. I do trust that if you do more bani it's good for you.

I think the minimum nitnem of a nihang should be:

(Morning) Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tav Parsad Savaiye, Benti Chaupai, Anand Sahib, Akaal Ustat(Optional)

    (Evening) Rehras, Aarti-Aarta

(Before sleep) Rakhiya de shabad, Kirtan Sohila

I'm pretty sure Chandi di Vaar and Bhagauti Astotar is part of the minimum. At least the former is anyway.

Lol tusan, eh keri boli a? Thanks ji for the compliment Gurjant paji. But I first searched the shabad Haridas ji put on and it took me to a youtube shabad of Jale Hari, Thale Hari, which I love and have put it on here a few times before.

Haha I like mixing up my boli at times. ਤੁਸਾਂ ਕਿਥਾਂ ਉਥਾਂ

Don't worry, I am actually Doabi lol!

Some of our relatives have become Radha Soami, and they have changed a lot. A paji of ours used to be so loving and caring towards me, and we used to talk about spiritual things, but since going there he’s become kind of like he’s more knowledgable than others. He doesn’t say much, but it’s just from his behaviour and they don’t seem to mingle as they used to before. Also, their personality has changed, although others say it hasn’t, but I feel it has, they’ve become more chust as you would say, but in a negative way. The bhabhi gives the odd sarcastic remark or try’s to infer things through conversation. She never used to do this before, and she was one of my best bhabhis. I just don’t feel like talking to them nowadays as they seem not interested in the interpersonal communication.

That is really sad. I wonder what actually goes on there? I mean I've been to their Dera in Punjab but not to an actual Satsang - there's so much security, they search you, have to hand over all your personal items. You're right they do become very chust in a negative way - typical of a cult, like they have inside info or something. They're very secretive. It's the brainwashing I reckon. I don't understand how anyone with half a buddhi would become one.

Bro, first of all, he's not an Anglo-Canadian. His name is Sandhu. He's a Sikh.

What he's saying is gansta talk/rap is not our culture (Sikh culture). This is the one thing I agree with him on.

Surely, you don't propose that gangsta talk/rap is our culture, do you?

Well he certainly sounds like it. He's talking about Sikhs as if they're some alien race. It doesn't sound as if he's a Sikh addressing other Sikhs. Lastly it's not exactly hard to be gupt in the gupt section.

Fair enough about the gangsta rap, I personally don't like it so I simply do not listen to it. Frankly it's not my business what they do as long as what they're doing isn't illegal or highly morally questionable. And before you say it, yes, some of them are questionable.

No I don't propose that it is but from what I know, not all these rappers rap about gandh all the time.

Also, I love 80s/90s Hip Hop.

Furthermore what Sikhs are contemporary artists tend to appropriate black culture...Sikhs with turbans rapping and talking all gangsta...well sorry but..thats not our culture at all...that's someone elses culture....I find Sikhs in 2018 to be...well rather embarrassing....

Please do tell us what the original Canadian culture is?

Oh that's right, you pretty much wiped it out. Now your "culture" is under threat...bloody well serves you right.

Ought to shove a maple tree up your arse.

  7. OP, there is not much you can really do about your brother. By becoming Radha Soami he will not gain anything, you know it, I know it, the Sangat knows it. I doubt anything you can say will make a difference as you said he hasn't listened to you so far. But it's odd because you later say he listens to other people. If this is the case, naturally it would follow that you get someone else to talk to him.

Do Ardaas to Guru Sahib to stop your brother becoming involved with this cult.

This is not an official portrait..... it is the creation of giani thakur singh based on what he was told about what mata Ji looks like.

The best place to get a pic of Mata is from Mata Ji’s actual asthaan...... Gurdwara Mata Sahib Deva in Hazur Sahib. They have an old portrait of Mata there & it looks nothing like this picture.

Theres massive amounts of kirpa at Gurdwara Mata Sahib Deva..... I’m pretty certain the jathedar (currently baba Prem Singh) & other sevadars there would have a better idea of what Mata looks like based on personal darshan etc

Cheers. Didn't know that. I was told it was as this is promoted by Mata Ji's asthaan in Punjab.

That's some skill with the thaal :) wonder what the significance is?

It is, although it seems they get a bit fed up with him lol. I would assume it's something to do with showing devotion through austerities. Or something along those lines.

The way the Aarti is sung and done is just...Vah! Vah!!!

I'll probably the first to have that reaction LOL. Not giving these groups air time is akin to denying history, this is where what Niddar says makes sense to me at least, Sikhi was more than just Khalsa, each samparda had an intrinsic role to play and together we were stronger. This is where the Nihangs and Taksalis also used to align and there were less controversies.

Exactly!! They worked in toto, pure harmony.

    Jai Niddar!

Nope, me neither. Usually we'll have biased journalism, we need unfettered access to the Jathedars and the fauj if we're referring to the Dals.

Then we need to cover the Nirmaley, Udasis and Taksal. For Taksal, my favoured person to speak to in the current climate is Brahmgiani Sant Mohan Singh Jee. Gaining access to them is tough for Singh's let alone a doc and on top of this they are birad. In the UK we still have access to Giani Gurdev Singh who can cover off the old Taksali Heritage.

I don't think Balbir would be receptive to a doco being made about him lol. Or on the other hand he might be very interested to promote his Jathedaari. Best to speak to @Singh123456777 about this though.

That's a brilliant idea, although I don't know what peoples reactions would be on a documentary about Nirmaley due to bias, I can just imagine people screaming "Bahmanvaad" at the TV. Access to Taksal would be much easier but good luck trying to get a meeting with Baba Mohan Singh as you said. I know of another Chardi Kala Singh from Taksal who would be interested, last I head they were making Baba Thakur Singh's asthaan. For Udasi, according to Singh123456777 Baba Gurvinder Singh would be suitable.

Back then we lacked researchers who could convey the message clearly to programme makers in English. There is a need for more documentaries such as this in HD for future generations before we lose more of our great historical traditions. We have the luxury of using Kamalroop Singh (despite his recent episode), Giani Sukha Singh and if the Singh's in India deem fit maybe even Niddar or if not him Parmjit S.

I agree 100%. While film adaptations are fine as well as animations, we need actual documentaries. Many folks are not into seeing a dramatised version, me being one of them.

Plus not everyone does well with reading and trying to find the right sources or literature either.

All of the above Singhs mentioned have some kind of VIP access, however, making a doco on the Dal Panth would be a complicated issue given the factionalism amongst them today.

I don't remember the last time I saw a proper Sikh Documentary.
