  1. People like him shouldn't be allowed to speak on TV. Shame on him but he is not the only one. This plaque of caste system has been deeply rooted in many Sikh families. Many Amritdhari Sikhs are katar believers of caste
  2. Seems like you have already made up your mind for now to not have kids. You just want other people to assure you that your decision is right. Do what you want for now but things and decisions change over time. Life is very unpredictable. You never know what Guruji has planned for you. You might or might not change your decision later in life. You might not want the responsibility of raising children when you are young, but you might feel the need of having loved ones when you get old. Please, be honest with your life partner before getting into the relationship. Yes, it will be hard for you to find someone who doesn't want kids, but who knows? You could find an ideal life partner if you look hard enough. My personal feelings about Kids: Kids are blessings and being a mother completes you. It gives new meaning to your life. It adds one more reason to live. :-)

  6. I dont about anyone else, but I don't want a halal meat plant, or meat plant of any sort, opening next to Gurdwara. Wouldn't it be hypocritical? How can we ask for peace and pray to Guru Sahib while knowing thousands of beings are being brutally murdered right next to Gurdwara?
  7. Who made this parmpara? Never heard of it.
  8. When someone takes Amrit, he/she becomes son/daughter of Guru Gobind Singhji. We are more closely related to Guruji than he is. Plus, his questionable role in 1984, makes him traitor of Guru Sahib, not a descendent.
  9. Gurdaspur, Punjab (April 10, 2014): It is learnt that mother of Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur, who was killed in Punjab police firing on 29 March 2012, has hit Badal Dal’s local MLA with her slipper. “Punjab Police bullets killed Jaspal Singh in March 2012. Finding no justice but police and political pressure in the case even after a year and 24 hours after a court of inquiry handed over clean chit to two senior police officers, the mother of Jaspal Singh took the matter and chappals in her own hands and proceeded to deliver the justice”, YesPunjab.com has noted, in it’s news report. Sarabjit Kaur, mother of Bhai Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur [File Photo] “Gurdaspur SAD MLA Gurbachann Singh Babbehali got it on his face. The MLA was hit with a chappal when he visited Jaspal Singh’s village Chor Sidhwan” YesPunjab report reads. “Babbehali had to face the wrath of the enraged mother of Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur for his alleged role in the case of killing of her son, who was shot dead during police firing on March 2, 2012 ,the day of Punjab Bandh. The Bandh was observed in support of Balwant Singh Rajoana”. “The family and the village folk have been critical of Babbehali’s role after the death of Jaspal Singh. A source said Babbehali had not visited the village since then”. Sarabjit Kaur, the mother of the young college student Jaspal Singh, got enraged on seeing the MLA, who had come to the village to seek votes for SAD-BJP candidate and Bollywood star turned politician Vinod Khanna. Gurbachan Singh Babbehali [File Photo] As Babbehali alighted from his vehicle to enter the house of village Sarpanch Gurmeet Kaur, where he was to attend a meeting, Jaspal Singh’s mother Sarabjit Kaur, who was in a house nearby got furious and rushed to flung a chappal on the MLA. The first chappal she flung on the MLA hit his vehicle but seething with anger and accusing him of his partisan role after her son’s death, Sarabjit Kaur flung the second one which hit Babbehali squarely in the face. Babbehali was then escorted to Sarpanch’s house as Sarabjit Kaur continued to vent her anger verbally. The MLA remained there for about half an hour and then left the village. The development was confirmed to YesPunjab.com by none other than Gurcharanjit Singh, the husband of Sarabjit Kaur and the father of late Jaspal Singh. The family and Sikh organisations have all along been accusing Babbehali of trying to cajole or pressurize the family to withdraw the case wherein police officers and lower rung cops were allegedly involved. It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab government has dropped the charges against Punjab Police Service officers Varinder Pal Singh and Manpreet Singh in above case only yesterday. The above information was submitted by state of Punjab to the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday. The court was informed that the inquiry conducted by retired additional district and sessions judge BC Gupta had concluded that the charges levelled against Varinder Pal Singh, then SSP at Gurdaspur, and Manpreet Singh, then deputy superintendent of police, Gurdaspur, were not found correct. According to YesPunjab.Com “When contacted Babbehali over his mobile, his PA picked the phone to tell that Babbehali could not talk as he was busy attending election meetings”. When reportedly told that YesPunjab.com wanted to talk to him regarding the incident that happened at village Chor Sidhwan, yesterday, his PA said that nothing had happened in the village and people were spreading rumours. 10. Bhenji, I don't want to sound harsh, please forgive me, but why do we go to Gurdwara Sahib? Guruji's saroop is same in all Gurdwaras, so what difference does it make? Bhenji, even if you go to your local Gurdwara and do ardaas for healthy baby, He will listen. Hope you enjoy your trip to India. Consult your doctors first. Bhul Chuk Maaf ji Unfortunately, People only go there to ask for SONS.

    Veganism

It is true NAAM is important but it is also important to be compassionate. After looking at how animals are treated at slaughterhouses, should Sikhs really support such practices? Becoming Vegan or vegetarian should be an ethical decision not religious.
  12. Gurdwaras should have English Katha along with Punjabi Katha so that children can understand what is being said. Give chance to young Katha wachak fluent in English and Punjabi to do katha. Social media is a great place. Gurdwara management should also connect with sangat on social media and keep them updated and involved.
  13. I just know that caste system is not part of Sikhi and should never be given importance. It is very shameful that Sikhs prefer caste system and feel proud of their caste esp, the Sikhs who live in India are filled with haumai of their caste. It hurts more when it comes from Amrritdharis. I have seen many inter-caste marriages, including mine, and many inter racial marriages which are as successful as any marriage within caste. Young Amritdharis should step up to their parents and tell them that they don't care about caste. This step might be rebellious and hard but it will be bliss for future of Sikhi. I find this is the most effective way to tackle this problem.
  14. Isn't it the same company which had " No more Ragheads" " no more towel heads" t-shirts on sale?
  15. So sad and stupid. You know what's sadder? It is becoming very common and I am not at all surprised by this news

    Veganism

Very good decision. No, don't say no to Degh. It is Guruji's prashad and blessings.
  17. I do understand that in western countries fish and eggs are included in definition, but it just sound odd. Vegetarian should only refer to someone who depends on vegetation, just plant based diet, you know what I mean. Anyways, the link below clarifies that green dot on Indian products does not include eggs. They are safe for consumption. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian_mark
  18. I agree with you. However, It never made sense to me that fish and eggs are vegetarian…
  19. In India, definition of vegetarian excludes eggs and fish..
  20. indian food products have a green dot if they are vegetarian. I believe maggi noodles has green dot on the packet.
  21. Count Calories!! There are so many apps for iPhone and android users which can track calories for you. One of the app, which used and lost 15 pounds with, is myftnesspal…( they also have a website : myfitnesspal.com ) It has calorie options for indian food or you can also add your food and calculate calories from scratch. If you eat suggested calories every day and exercise a bit, you will definitely lose weight. For a female to lose weight, suggested calorie intake is 1200. One pizza slice has approx: 250 calories. If you ate 4 slices, you are almost done for the day. Any other meal would be extra calories and will hinder weight loss Counting calories keep you on track, helps you manage your diet and avoid eating extra. Drinking Lemon Juice and Coffee also helps keep off weight.
