  1. It's a very boring country. People have to entertain themselves somehow.
  2. Quite common with our people having vitamin d deficiency. You can probably get away with sunshine during summer months but they are needed during the dark winter months. Holland and Barrett do some great vitamin supplements.
  3. The Mediterranean people's have always been.very closely connected.
  4. There is a divide in Italy, between the North and South. The South being darker skinned ones and the Northern Italians being more fair skinned.
  5. These types of countries are only transit countries. The goal is to get citizenship and then move to the northern EU countries. The resentment in part from the local Italians can be attributed from all the Mediterranean crossings with boats regularly capsizing from Libya. Their country has been swamped.
  6. 1984 is a watershed moment for Punjabi's in Canada. Pre-84 immigration is very different from post-84. The pre-84 set are a different species from post-84 set. A lot of things happened where the host community in Canada acommodated a lot of things where multiculturalism was very much accepted. This is why pendus that come to Canada don't need to adapt. Countries like Spain, Italy probably won't put up with a lot of stuff that pendus would get away with in Canada.
  7. A lot of UK Sikhs find Canada boring. If you like outdoor stuff then maybe Canada has better appeal. Don't get me wrong, I like Canada, the people are friendly but many UK Sikhs that move there come back because it does not really improve their life in any way. UK Sikhs have been accustomed to living in a certain way that it becomes difficult to adjust to another way.
  8. Twitter and YouTube is beginning to shadow ban people who views do not follow their agenda. If they oppose the film, the likes of Twitter/Youtube will see it as a hate crime.
  9. This is what happens after decades of being told that if girls get up to bad behaviour, they can do so because the boys do bad behaviour. Fathers and brothers have been basically silenced whilst the authority has been passed onto the mothers and to other females. Women cannot even police other women on their behaviour. This is what feminism does.
  10. Thirty years ago maybe. She is a Toronto girl whose family moved to L.A. Toronto girls of Sikh background are more debauched than UK girls of Sikh background. They are even more entrenched with all the feminist /SJW stuff/ Cultural Marxism.
  11. These type of books will be eaten up by the metro/urbanite upper class women of Delhi/Mumbai. Women may not watch those type of films but they will read the heck out of it. You know how popular that "50 shades " book was with women.
  12. People who know her family would know what she has gotten up to all of these years. Now they will all of a sudden they should isolate her? You know the kind of answer these girls will give: " It's my body, my choice! You can't tell me what to do!" So people mind their own business! The use of Kaur has been done deliberately for her get attention for her book. She knows it gains noteriety which means more publicity. Who do you think will buy her books. It won't be pervy blokes, it will be women
  13. But but she is so liberated, so empowered. You go grll !(being sarcastic here). That is the kind of narrative that is spouted.
  14. Depends what you mean by opportunities. If you are starting a business, maybe yes because there is less stigma in being bankrupt and starting over in the U.S. Employment and career opportunities, you still going go through the same stuff except that there is better security in the UK and a better work-life balance. We get better vacation time and people are not scared of being sick incase they get fired like in the U.S. Sikhs in the UK are well travelled and have been all over the world. Sikhs in the UK have probably seen more parts of the US than the average American. When you have travelled enough times in the US, you stop seeing it as a country and for what it really is a continent. North California is not like Southern California which you cannot compare to Texas which is completely different to the North East. They are like different countries. When you sit with friends and family from Toronto, North Cali and D.C you realise that all North Americans don't sound the same, there are different accents, have different temperaments etc. The UK Sikh has worked with a lot of different nationalities. I worked with a guy from Pasadena (a Latino guy) and he was pushing his parents to get out of California and move to Georgia. So even Californians are not happy. A lot of this "American Dream" stuff does not wash with a lot of UK Sikh people because there isn't really much the US can offer that we don't already have in the Uk.
  15. It is not really, but it does depend on the context. It is the preception. North America does not really provide the opportunities for many UK Sikhs like if you are coming from a 3rd world country. Sure, some people may thrive better. However there is no great deal in the difference in standards of living. The only thing a UK Sikh might be impressed with is a larger house but even that loses appeal once you consider other factors.
  16. For many British Sikhs, the appeal of Canada would be the less proximity of Muslim or at least Pakistani Muslim. For many British Sikh, that factor alone would improve their quality of life. However, once you get past that Canada does not hold much appeal. For all the Sikhs from UK that do move to Canada, a large proportion do move back. For the type of immigration you are looking for to make the impact you think it would make, something drastic would need to hapen in the UK.
  17. Why do you think that is? For all the claims of the patriarchy and misogyny what you really have is a sisterhood. Women will always back each other up, whether they are religious or not.
  18. I don't where we are getting about not eating beef but it seems some posters are creating beef.
  19. The "artist" who kept it real and then sells out for the $$. How many times has that been seen before
  20. You make some good points there. When there is no dar-ul-harb to go against maybe the pre-islamic past is more appreciated. You don't appreciate what you have until it's gone. I think Sikhs are interested in pre-Sikh history. It's that we prioritise our more recent history because it has more of a direct impact on us. We do appreciate aspects of ancient Indian civilisation but we realise we have something better.
  21. We will see what these powerful Sikhs will do if the opportunity arises.
  22. Going back to the main point of the topic. If say for example we get another 5 or 6 Sikh MPs and maybe have one MP in the cabinet. What are we to gain by this? We must remember there are political lobbies and influencers behind the scenes. Also, an MP is responsible for the constituent which they are supposed to represent. For example if an Amritdhari Sikh becomes an MP for a seat which 96% white British and you approach him regarding some new atrocity that is taking place in Punjab, where are his priorities?
  23. The way I see it is that the top muslims are Arabs, Turks and Iranians. (My opinion) Turks and Iranians do not consider themselves inferior to Arabs. Probably because both in their history ruled over the Arabs. The rest of the muslims are just there to make the numbers. If South Asian muslims ruled over Arabs perhaps they would be higher ranked. Even in the Arab World, there is a pecking order. It seems that peninsular Arabs (the Gulf boys) come first and the rest (Levantine, Masari, Maghrebi, Yemeni ) come way afterwards.
  24. The Lebanese are increasingly seeing themselves as "Phoenicians " rather than Arabs. The Iranians abroad are apparently dosassociating themselves from Islam, they are beginning to pay more attention to their pre-Islamic roots. The turkish diaspora largely would be perhaps be more secular due to Ataturk. Though Erdogan is doing his best to un-do that. If you notice one thing about these muslims and that they are white/fairer/olive skinned muslims. There is a pecking order in the Islamic world and it is based on race.
