  2. http://www.birminghammail.net/2008/11/14/b...97319-22257714/ Birmingham father of three scarred for life in bottle attack Nov 14 2008 by Mark Cowan, Birmingham Mail A DAD of three who was left with horrific facial injuries after being smashed over the head with two beer bottles today called on the public: “Help catch the people who did this to me.” Gurdial Singh suffered a three-inch long scar on his forehead and three deep gashes to his head in the apparently unprovoked attack as he answered a knock on the door. He had been to collect rent from a tenant in Crocketts Road in Handsworth, and had opened the front door to two callers when they thugs pounced. One of the men asked: “Are you Mr Singh?” When the 57-year-old answered “Yes” the yob smashed the bottle over his head, showering him with beer and leaving him drenched in blood. The second man joined in, repeatedly hitting him over the head with another bottle. He needed 31 stitches, nine to his forehead and the rest to his scalp, to the wounds. Married Mr Singh, who works as a diecaster, said: “They just banged my head with a beer bottle. My forehead was covered in blood. Then the other one hit me. “It all happened in a few seconds and then they ran off. “There was blood everywhere. I was in a lot of pain and was shaking. I was scared because I only had a heart attack in April. “I’ve done nothing wrong and can’t think of any reason for it, they didn’t try and take my gold chain or any money.” He added: “They are violent people, they need to be caught before they do it to someone else. “I could be left with this scar all my life, it’s very bad and I could need plastic surgery to cover it up. It has upset my whole family.” Detectives at Thornhill Road CID have been left baffled by the attack, at about 7.20pm on October 11, and have so far drawn a blank in finding a motive. The thugs did not steal or attempt to steal anything from Mr Singh. They were last seen running off towards Booth Street. Police today released an e-fit of one of the offenders and called for Birmingham Mail readers to help name him. He was described as aged 25, 5ft 7in tall and stocky, with big eyes, short black hair and wearing black clothing. The second man was aged 24 to 25, 5ft 7in tall and medium build and also wearing black clothes. A police spokesman said: “We would appear to anyone in the area who saw these men either hanging around or running away from the scene. There is some suggestion that there was a silver BMW in the area but we have had no luck tracing it.” Police also urged people to take care to check who is at their doorstep before opening the front door. “If they are unsure who is at the door then do not open it,” the spokesman added. Thornhill Road CID appealed for anyone with any information regarding the attack to contact them on 0121 428 6080 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.

  5. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1915463.ece BBC girl: Don’t send me an Asian cabbie By JOHN COLES Published: Today A BBC presenter has been fired for telling a taxi firm not to send an Asian driver to pick up her daughter. Sam Mason, 40, told a cab operator: “A guy with a turban on is going to freak her out.” When her request was refused, she snapped: “You’ve managed it before.” The taxi worker was so outraged she recorded the conversation and passed a copy of it to The Sun. You can hear the astonishing call by clicking on the multimedia link, right. Mum-of-one Mason, an ex-TV glamour girl, called the cab firm off-air as she played a song on her BBC Radio Bristol afternoon show. A transcript of the conversation records how she ordered a taxi to take her 14-year-old from her Clifton house to her grandparents’ home. Mason then says: “I know this sounds really racist, but I’m not being . . . please, don’t send anyone like, you know what I mean. An English person would be great, a female would be better.” Operator: “We would class that as being racist. We can’t penalise the Asian drivers and just send an English one.” Mason: “You’ve managed it before.” Operator: “Right, OK. I don’t agree with it personally.” Mason: “It’s not your 14-year-old girl who’s, you know, is it?” Operator: “Yes, but that’s racist to say you don’t want an Asian driver.” Mason: “If it were me I wouldn’t care if it had two heads, but it’s my little girl we are talking about.” Mason, who has battled alcoholism, is then handed to a male operator and tells him that his female colleague has “a bad attitude”. She adds: “I work at the BBC. I’m far from racist and that uneducated woman has no right to call me one.” She says of her daughter: “I don’t want her to turn up with a guy with a turban on, it’s going to freak her out. She’s not used to Asians. “She’s not racist – her godparents are black.” Mason rang off, but called back later to complain before a manager accepted her booking. She was suspended when we alerted the BBC and fired 24 hours later. A spokesman for BBC Bristol said: “Although Sam Mason’s remarks were not made on air, her comments were completely unacceptable.” The taxi worker said all calls were routinely recorded and logged in case of queries or complaints.

  7. Here we go again.... http://www.tribuneindia.com/2008/20081109/punjab1.htm#1 Plot to kill dera chief unearthed Tribune News Service Zira (Ferozepur), November 8 The police claims to have unearthed a plot to kill Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, head of Dera Sacha Sauda, with the seizure of another cache of arms and ammunition in the Mallanwala area of this border district last night. The total recoveries include 25 packets of heroin, five AK-56 rifles, seven magazines and 750 cartridges; 10 Chinese-made .30 bore pistols with 21 magazines and 140 cartridges, and counterfeit currency of Rs 21 lakh. DGP N.P.S. Aulakh said here today that the arms and ammunition were smuggled into the Indian territory from Pakistan through Hussainiwala sector and were to be used to assassinate the dera head. The police had arrested Gursagar Singh of Gumtala village of Amritsar district, Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, alias Shinda, of Khaneke village in Ferozepur district, and Kuldip Singh, alias Billa, of Muthianwali in Ferozepur district. The DGP said they told the police that the arms and ammunition were sent by Ranjit Singh Nita, self-styled chief of the Khalistan Zindabad Force from Pakistan, specifically to eliminate the dera head. There was no involvement of the ISI in the arms smuggling as far as preliminary investigations were concerned, he said. The DGP said Sukhwinder had said the arms and other things were sent to him by Pakistan-based smugglers Ashraf Bhola of Kasur and Nayeer Khan of Sialkot, who was in the jail. Two persons identified as Ashiq, alias Arshad Afzal, and Malangi brought this cache into India on October 31 through Hussainiwala sector. It was to be delivered to Gursagar and Harmeet, who had planned to eliminate the dera head. Gursagar fell into police net while Harmeet Singh of Chehrata (Amritsar) escaped. The DGP said there were many vulnerable points on the border in the riverine belts, which were being used by the smugglers.
  8. Mystery over death plunge 26 September 2008 A SIKH man was killed after he fell from a great height crushing the right side of his body, an inquest heard. Shana Singh, of no fixed address, was found bruised and bleeding on the Chadwell Heath industrial estate in the yard of Emperor shop-fitters Ltd on December 20 last year. An ambulance was called by the company owner, Tarsem Singh Bains, who says that he and one of his employees moved the injured man inside to keep him warm. Paramedics arrived and took Shana Singh to Queen's Hospital, Romford, staff there called the police. Officers went to the site in Chadwell Heath where Shana Singh was found and questioned the owner, Mr Bains. They found a large amount of blood under Mr Bains' car and evidence of water like someone had tried to clean the blood up. Mr Bains told the court that he had never seen Shana Singh until the evening he found him near death in his company's yard. Police were only ever able to trace one witness, Davinder Singh, who was interviewed once and then never found again. Davinder Singh told DC Ghatta Aureh, of Barking and Dagenham CID, that he and Shana Singh went to the Sikh Temple in Barking on the morning of the fall. He said they waited outside there at around 6.30am as they usually did and that a man came to pick them up if there was any work for them that day. According to Davinder Singh, he, Shana Singh and two other men were chosen to go and work on Chadwell Heath industrial estate. They were driven there and told to start work putting thin strips of metal about 10ft long into containers that were around 12ft high. Davinder Singh told DC Aureh that he stayed at the bottom of the ladder and Shana Singh was at the top. He said he did not see Shana Singh fall but heard a thud and saw him lying there with blood coming from his nose and mouth. Mr Bains maintained when asked that he did not know Shana Singh and that he did not employ him at his company. None of this evidence could be tested at Walthamstow Coroner's Court last week so Coroner Dr Elizabeth Stearns recorded an open verdict. Dr Benjamin Swift, who carried out the post mortem on Shana Singh, said he died from head and chest injuries, most likely the result of a fall from a height. http://www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/sear...Category=search

The explosives, packed in 195 gelatine sticks, reached here this time through inter-state smuggling, while earlier these used to be smuggled from across the border. The explosives, as powerful as the RDX, had manufacturing stamp of a Nagpur-based factory. The detonators were brought from Andhra Pradesh. The arrested youths, Gurbhej Singh, alias Sonu, of Kathunangal in Amritsar and Manjit Singh, alias Mita, of Barde Ke village in Jagraon, both aged less than 25, were said to be unemployed. They have no criminal or terrorist background. The explosives were found in a blue suitcase they were carrying on their motor cycle PB-13Q-4804. Preliminary questioning of the accused revealed that their main targets were Baba Piara Singh Bhaniarewala, Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, chief Dera Sacha Sauda and crowded places, including vital installations. The youths said they were working at the instance of one Gurmeet Singh, alais Bagga, who belonged to Jhajj village near Tanda in Hoshiarpur. He was now based in Hamburg, Germany. IG Sanjiv Kalra said the team, including Satnam Singh, PPS, DSP/Det, Ludhiana (rural), SI Pritam Singh SHO Jagraon and SI Tehal Singh, under the supervision of Pritam Singh, SP (detective), had done a commendable job in catching the miscreants. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2008/20080618/main5.htm

  23. Thats part of the reason why i was asking. From what I read, Bhai Ranjit Singh got a job at the Nirankari headqaurters in Delhi, posing as a carpenter. On the evening of 24 April 1980, he waited with an automatic rifle in a room within their guesthouse. One of the windows gave a clear view of the driveway. At about 11 p.m, he shot Gurbachna from his position just as he returned home from a public function. Bhai Ranjit singh managed to escape by jumping on to a compound wall. Aparently two other Gursikhs were involved. Any ideas as to who?
