  2. Partition of Punjab Two self governing countries legally came into existence at the stroke of midnight on 15 August 1947. 14 August, 1947, saw the birth of the new Islamic Republic of Pakistan. At midnight the next day India won its freedom from colonial rule, ending nearly 350 years of British presence in India. The British left India divid ed in two. The two countries were founded on the basis of religion, with Pakistan as an Islamic state and India as a secular one. India's Independence Day is celebrated on August 15 to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. The day is celebrated all over the country and by a growing diaspora around the world. Pakistan became independent on the previous day. What is sometimes forgotten is that the period signifies the single largest human migration of people in modern history. Till today, there is no institutional memory of Partition: the State has not seen fit to construct any memorials, to mark any particular places - as has been done, say, in the case of Holocaust memorials, or memorials for the Vietnam War. There is nothing at the border that marks it as a place where millions of people crossed, no plaque or memorial at any of the sites of the camps, nothing that marks a particular spot as a place where Partition memories are collected. Between 12-14 million people who had homes that their families had occupied for decades (often centuries) became 'political' refugees to take up residence across the border. Estimates of how many people died vary immensely, hovering in the half to one-half million ranges. Most scholars and observers round it to a million for convenience. Some Articles Partition of India or Punjab Sikhs role in partition of Punjab Lest we forget Gallery Families were cut to half as men were killed leaving women to fend for themselves. Punjab during partition 1947 Picture taken by BBC during the partition shows a street filled with dead bodies, where vultures having their feast. Looking at the tragic scene Bourke-White's biographer Vicki Goldberg, writes "The street was short and narrow. Lying like the garbage across the street and in its open gutters were bodies of the dead. Old Sikh man carrying his wife. Margaret Bourke-White. 1947. Over 10 million people were uprooted from their homeland and travelled on foot bullock carts and trains to their promised new home.

  5. Always read these avtars by reading invocation of Chaubis avtar. There are thirty 38 stanzas in that. That gives the belief system of Guru sahib. Otherwise there is always a chance of misinterpretation.
  6. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh Most of the moderators are chosen by forum founding member(s): Balait_da_sher, Talikhaak & S1ngh. There is no voting nor any sangat approval process. We select sewadars by looking at their mature and long standing on our forums. We don't keep sewadars just because they are our social friends etc. For example: 3 founding sewadars never met each other till this day (7 years since we made this forum) but still we are together because of our basic understanding of what we want this forum to be. All moderators and admin are allowed to speak freely on board about anything but within the limits of forum rules. If any moderator or admin is involved in any controversial topic/thread then it is fine with us and we don't judge his character because of that. We try not to get someone in our team who is related or official belong to any jathabandi. We don't hide them nor have any top secret group etc.. Any member can see the forum moderators (Its been made public since 2004): http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?act=St...mp;CODE=leaders If SikhSangat.com was biased we wouldn't even approve such a topic, since all topics in Gupt Forum have to be approved. We try our best to run this forum in a very cool sikhi way and many members like that way. Every forum is unique and all attract different type of sangat. Veerjeeoo we try our best but sometime we cannot please all, so I am sure that you can understand what we are trying to say. Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh
  7. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! We are noticing excessive advertising of some websites on SS through website updates, we've placed those website accounts under moderation so all posts made on those accounts will have to be approved as this is a discussion board not a website advertising/update board, we had this discussion a while back but it seems like the rule is not being followed. Those member who continue to post their website updates will also be placed under moderation. SikhSangat.com is a place to discuss gurmat/gursikhi and not a platform for anything else. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh!

The goal behind this re-launch is to catch with the current technology and promote non-biased Sikh news among our community. 11. Sikhsangat's Stand on Meat Debate 23 September 2008 Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Upon discussion with the admins of SikhSangat, we have decided to take an anti-meat stand, we've been thinking about this issue for a while on an individual basis and until recently we've collectively decided that this is best for the forum. We feel that eating meat is immoral, unlawful and simply wrong according to the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib jee. There have been numerous discussions and debates on this topic and both sides of the party have voiced their opinions ever since the start of the site in 2001. We do not want to re-iterate the arguments against the debate. If you do a search on the board for the topic you will find MANY replies and topics on the topic and we leave the ultimate decision to your better judgment. SikhSangat.com will not allow any topics that justify the killing of animals for food or otherwise. Any topic/post stating otherwise will be deleted. SS Team Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Dasam Granth March 1, 2008 Dasam Granth Bani: SikhSangat.com holds a Pro Dasam Granth stand. Not following the rule will result in Under moderation and possible ban without an issuance of warning. 12. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Dear Sangat ji, We have checked the IP of several members and it has come to our attention that many are using multiple ID's to post on the board, multiple ID's are not allowed, and those who have multiple ID's will be given a warning and all their ID's will be disabled except for one, if you have multiple ID's please PM one of the administrators or create a ticket so you don't get a warning. 15. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! We've noticed that people are making topics of posting links of "Sikh" people converting to Islam this could be a scheme of some people infiltrate the site and post links of these "conversions", those types of topics will be deleted without notice. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh!
  16. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Dear Sangat ji, Over the last few days we've had to close several threads that have gotten out of hand with alot of arguing back and forth, the train of thought leads from the original point of discussion to something totally different. In those topics we noticed that a few members have asked to closed the topic and might I add not in the politest way, but we deserve that because we are the auguneaar, neech, ajaan and you are all bakshanhaar, always forgiving. All we ask for you is to REPORT THE TOPIC/POST, or create a ticket, or PM one of the moderators/admins to close a topic/post that you find offensive or violate forum rules so we can take quick action, we've seen several complaints in some of the topics that were recently closed, but not a single person reported the topic or post, if you don't report it means we can't do anything about it because we are under the impression that its a normal discussion topic. Most of us really don't have time to sift through all the posts, as we have other responsibilities, one of the reasons why lowest of the low singhni left the team was due to these responsibilities and we would hate to lose more if you don't support us in bringing up the forum quality to what it originally was. Its our humble request for you to help us help build this site together. Also, if we notice a specific member reporting posts that violate rules or posts that are offensive we can also consider them to be a part of the moderator team so instead of reporting they can directly delete/edit posts that violate forum rules. We want to make the post quality high and we know and hope the sangat will help us achieve that goal. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh!
  17. Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh SikhSangat.com Proudly release our new website "PunjabPartition.com" On 14 August, 1947 the Union Jack that was ruling over India was split into two - a green coloured flag with crescent and a star, and the tricolour flag with Ashoka chakkra in the middle. Pakistan was thus born out of India. Although firanghees decided to leave India/Pakistan on the same day but thanks to the superstitious beliefs of the Indian leaders that they agreed to be occupied for a day longer because 14th was not regarded as an auspicious day. However, Pakistan got freedom on 14th August, and India a day after on 15th August, 1947.... Visit http://www.PunjabPartition.com Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh
  18. Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh SikhSangat.com Proudly release our new website "Saragarhi.org" Battle of Saragarhi is the incredible story of 21 men of the 36th Sikh Regiment (currently the 4th Sikh Regiment) who gave up their lives in devotion to their duty. This battle, like many others fought by the Sikhs, highlights the heroic action by a small detachment of Sikh soldiers against heavy odds. This encounter took place on 12 September 1897 in the Tirah region of North-West Frontier Province (now in Pakistan, which then formed part of British India). In keeping with the tradition of the Sikh Army, they fought to the death rather than surrender. Visit http://www.Saragarhi.org Waheguru ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh
  19. SIGNATURE SIZE LIMIT Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Dear Sangat, It has come to our attention that some of the members are not within the 'allowable' signature limit. This limit is enforced because if someone's signature is too big and they've posted several times in one topic it extends the topic over several pages and the posts go onto the next pages. As part of the forum rules/guidelines and to ensure the posts don't extend to pages upon pages we have made this topic. If someone violates the above rule one of the sevadars will have to edit their signature so that it meets the above requirements. We don't like doing this but just having this policy in the rules/guidelines page isn't enough as many members still have almost twice the above limitation. Lets make everyone's visit to SS as pleasant as possible. Bhul chuk muaf. Your sevadars Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Quality Control SikhSangat.com reserves the right to place any member under quality control moderation as and when they see fit. An explanation is not required under quality control moderation but all efforts will be made to send the Member a message informing them that they have been placed under QC Moderation. The duration of the moderation will be at the prerogative of the Admin/Mod team.
  20. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh! To tackle members that continue to violate forum rules we have discussed and decided to change the warning rule to 2 warnings and upon the third violation of forum rules, the member's IP address will be banned. This will also be posted in the rules/guidelines thread. Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh!
  21. Gizza and Satpalahuja - Id disabled for 60 days From Rules & Guidelines Page: Insulting Sikhi, Shabad Guru, Khalsa Panth, Akal Takhat, Sikh identity and calling Sikhi a sect of any other religion will result in the user's ID being disabled for 60 days.
