  1. Bhaji, Don't be sad about what Singh1234567 bhaji said. Keertan in raag is indeed the best way to do keertan but if the way akj does keertan appeals to you and connects you more...then do it so. What's important here is that you feel and connect to Guru Saheb with your sharda and love!
  2. Dear Bhaji, What can I say? Your post got tears in my eyes. I've never come across articles or any such information about Hindu brothers having laid down live for the cause. I bless with all my heart. Thanks a million.
  3. What I've experienced is that except from when I''m actually really tired, if I totally concentrate on meditation or the chant (simran/Waheguru Mantar) I find it extremely hard to sleep after that, let alone feeling sleepy during it. Dear scooter, (now this is something I never expected myself to say in my life) Why don't you try concentrating and getting your entire focus upon the sound of Waheguru mantar or on what different things you experience within your body? For eg. your breath, any stress etc in your arms and legs(...don't ignore it...address the issue), whatever you can 'visualise in the darkness (or not). The whole point of it is to be aware. If you start meditating or doing simran as a chore it won't be much fun and you will automatically get bored...and then get sleepy. Try to inspire yourself by reading other peoples' experiences and saakhis and actually make yourself to want to look forward to it.
  4. Also, apart from the illegal immigration from Punjab, everybody in Britain should get ready for a mass immigration from Punjabis settled in Europe--poor guys have spent 10-15 years of their lives simply to bring their children to an English-speaking country. No, I'm not saying 'all of them' are coming here...but 'Italian Punjabis' (if there is such a phrase) are pretty much getting flooded in the city I live. Illegal immigration from Punjab is not only a 'problem' for the U.K. but also for Italy, Portugal, Spain etc. We recently spoke to someone in Portugal who told us that Punjabis work SO extremely hard there...they would pluck oranges or grapes etc. for 8 hours and get paid 12 euros for that!!!!!! 12 euros for 8 hours of plucking oranges!!!!!! My husband's massar is very rich man. They've got properties worth crores of rupees. But even still, his sons wanted to come abroad. I honestly DO NOT understand this mentality. These guys don't think twice before buying a car worth about 30 lakhs but would work in farms in Italy. How weird is that!!!!?!!!! :stupidme:
  5. Why is Kala Afghana called 'Kala' Afghana? He looks quite 'gora'... :imslow:
  6. It's actually truly sad! But there are people in Punjab who still don't actually believe in this all when you tell them. BBC iplayer isn't accessible from outside the U.K. If anybody from India or so wants to watch it, it's on youtube as well.
  7. I'm reading Anderli Khoj at the moment. It's an absolutely beautiful one! So, many different saakhian and elaborate explanations about the spiritual journey. http://ebookbrowse.com/anderli-khoj-by-sant-waryam-singh-ratwara-sahib-wale-gurmatveechar-com-pdf-d341128452
kilabikh sakal dhaeh ko harathaa || dhushatt dhokhiyan ko shhai karathaa || 402|| The Lord is the destroyer of all the sins of the body and all the malicious and wicked persons.402.
  9. Waheguru! A very chardikala Singh had recommended this site...along with many others of course....because of the detailed explanations on many topics usually rarely discussed.
  10. Reminded me of the tuk: "Main hon Param Purakh ko daasa ll Dekhan aaeyo Jagat tamasa ll" :biggrin2: So, Guru Ji is definitely watching our drama... Oddly enough, I started writing another diary yesterday. This is how I began: "Hi there! I dunno who I'm talking to while typing this all...maybe my inner-self? Even so, it's still called being a lunatic in the world I live in..." It feels so crazy seeing your post about this today! LOL :toohappy:
  11. The vulgar Punjabi songs have become such a norm in our culture/society that families dance together to a song that they rarely think about. For example, an old Bindrakhia song - "Tu ni boldi rakaane....tere 'ch tera yaar bolda" (Plz forgive me for having to write it here). So, the whole family...mother, father, sister, brother, maama, jeeja, chacha, taya....everybody....dancing to it. Totally oblivious to what they are dancing to! So, obviously such stuff sinks deep into the sub-concious of people and they start behaving that way.
  12. You're not kidding, are you bhaji? (Is it possible you could share something about it...please :buzzbee: )
sarab t(h)aar mo hohu sehaaee ||dhusatt dhokh thae laehu bachaaee O God kindly become my Helper at all places, And protect me from the foes and evil doers.
  14. Dear Bhenji/Bhaji To be fairly honest, meditation has helped me a lot. The reason being that it helps to de-clutter the mind and be able to focus on the stuff you really want to do. The following links have been really helpful for me: http://www.personal-development-coach.net/about.html When I began meditating, especially with the motive to de-clutter my mind, I found it harder to concentrate on 'Waheguru', instead either observing the thoughts or completely ignoring them was a bit easier for me. Do give it a try.
  15. It's a punjabi surname. Although, are you asking about the literal meaning of the word?
  16. http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/articles/id/spiritualresearch/saattvik_living The above link is quite a nice blog --> "a guide to saattvik living". It covers various subjects such as food, clothes, hygiene, way of speaking etc.
  17. Dear bhenji/bhaji, The bhaji who's posted above have explained beautifully about how you can try to overcome the suicidal feelings. There's another point to be noted. Everything that happens to us is a result of our own Karams. If one commits suicide, the bad karmas don't get erased...one still has to pay the result in their next lives....not to forget that committing suicide is in itself a great sin! I'm sorry, I don't mean to make you feel worse than you already do. But do give it a thought. We're not this body. We're the soul in it. God knows how many thousands of years we've been wandering around in the universe before we got this human body (which is also the only life-form where one can meditate upon God and meet Him)...it's not supposed to be wasted away. I've dealt with post-natal depression in the past. The main way to get through it is to identify the root cause. There are other little things that do help as well: Wear bright colours (honestly, try to chuck out the blacks, browns and greys...or mix them with bright colours). Don't let it be dark at home or in the room you're in. The brighter it is, the more it helps to uplift the mood. Don't watch anything sad on the telly and try not the watch the news; it's more than often sad and depressing. Try not to watch telly for more than an hour in a day. Watch comedy at the most. If watching a film...absolutely turn off the telly after it. Only watch it if you're watching a specific programme that interests you. Try and develop new hobbies or invest time in the hobbies you've had. NEVER SIT IDLE!!! (very important)! Get out and get fresh air every single day. Identify the tiny little things in your life that make you happy (even a bit). They usually go unnoticed. The above mentioned points will help you uplift your mood for while. But it's a process. The more you consciously try to uplift the depressed mood, the more you'll help yourself. You have to always remember that you're battling with it (it sounds worse, I know, but it really helps). There are other couple of things that I think are worth mentioning. So, I was sent for counselling. And I asked this person about how to overcome the thoughts about my difficult childhood...they simply kept popping up again and again in my head without even trying to consciously think about it...was very unsettling. He replied, "Can you change what happened?". I said, "No." He said, "Then why even think about it." I honestly couldn't believe the advice I was being given. In my head I replied back, "Duh!" That was my last ever session and I decided to find another way to deal with it. (And the doctors can only ever prescribe you medicines which, I believe, are only helpful when you just don't ever get a clear mind and are totally unable to deal with it....only for a short time). This was when I thought very seriously about the above mentioned points of life, death and the soul. I was wondering whether you could share the reason for your condition, anonymously of course (if that is what you want), and may be we can all together try and help a bit. Bravo to the soul of that person, who remembers the Lord through his mouth and reflects in his mind about the war of righteousness; who considers this body the war of righteousness; who considers this body as transient, ascends the boat of Lords` praise and ferries across the dreadful ocean of the world; Who makes this body as the abode of forbearance and enlightens it with the lamp of intellect and who taking the broom of knowledge in his hand sweeps away the rubbish of cowardice.2492.
  18. Moreover, I was cursing at the threads...goes to show that I wasn't looking down on others. Intact, you're the one judging me at the moment, when you don't know zilch about me!
  19. I don't think I quite get what you're trying to say. I really did mean to apologize, also cos I don't normally swear...What do you mean by thinking high? Also, how am I judging someone...if I'm apologizing?
  20. Absolutely, absolutely LOVE your posts! You're SO full of LOVE..... May Guru Ji bless you with all the happiness possible! (honestly....from deep in my heart!) :waheguru:
  21. Sorry about my cursing... :unsure2: It's just that reading all the previous pages got me boiled up!
  22. Jab eh gahei bipran ki reet ll Main na karon in ki parteet ll Now 'Bipran ki reet' has different meanings according to different prespectives. But whatever the meaning Guru Saheb Ji meant....is the reason we don't have his protection and guidance anymore. Thinking of the above, I wanted to say 'Lack of Rehat'...but then again...we don't agree upon one minimal basic rehat either! If I think about the 'Lack of education' perspective, which could inculcate moral values and so on...I wonder about the 'parey-likhey' Professors of the Panth... :stupidme: The result: For unity to be prevalant in the panth, there has to be aapsi-prem/bhaichaara or in simple words - Love. Without good Karams, one can't get to read Gurbani. Without reading Gurbani one can't get rid of ego and have unconditional love for the Humanity.
  23. Could you guys PLEASE not turn every single bl**dy thread into a battlefield? The whole point of forums is discussion. Instead of throwing mud onto each others' faces...why don't you draw a longer line to prove your points? At least TRY to be civilised!!!! Goodness!!!!
