  2. i love them too - its VERY inspirational especially for kids. I just wish someone would take the time out to make some videos alongside the track so we could show at camps etc.
  3. Look sangat jio, dont see it as something that is just starting up. This has been going for time - im talking from the days Gurdwaras were first opened - where Gurdwaras have opened up halls where they allow meat and sharaab to be consumed. Its nothing new. Its now all coming out in the open because of communication advancements (such as this wonderful forum) and a rising of Sikh youth who wont stand for beadbi of Guru Jee...
  4. lol i think theres too many games of chinese whispers being played!
  5. I hear there is no set agenda on what is happening so dont get ure hopes up
  6. There ARE people in this world who can read palms and can determine your future. Guru Nanak Dev Jee didnt say that reading palms, astronomy etc, is false. What He said was that, unlike hindus etc do, dont live your life by them. Our destiny is not caste in stone - you can change the "lines on your hand" by the deeds you do. I know some Gursikhs who's lines have changed since they were young. And they do change. Ive seen it. Someone, when i was young, told me that the i would have an accident or something at a certain age, and it would be life threatening. A few unlinked astronomers said the same thing. And i believed it after i done some research myself. They also told me a lot about my past - not trivial things, but indepth personal things. Before i reached that age, i gave my paapee head to the Guru ... with His Grace, i am still here fit n healthy, today able to write this to you. Forgive any mistakes...
  7. Anyone know how its going or went?

  11. Ive seen many topics on the forum where theres attacks on other people, faiths, beliefs etc or some bad news somewhere down the line. Or people talk about bad experiences or things they are going through which is hurting them. So in this thread, please tell us something GOOD in your life? Something which has gone on recently in your life or is going on right now. Just something a bit more positive which will make other people reading this thread think "you know what, life is good" and bring a smile on their face
  12. I came accross Guru Granth Sahib jee in volumes at a library just stacked on shelves. Do we allow Guru Jee to be kept in volumes on shelves where there is no satkaar?
  13. Read news below - its a report on BBC news front page that schools will be allowed to ban full face veils..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/6466221.stm Schools allowed to ban face veils Schools will be able to ban pupils from wearing full-face veils on security, safety or learning grounds under new uniforms guidance set to be issued. In February, a 12-year-old girl failed in her High Court attempt to overturn her Buckinghamshire school's niqab ban. Ministers promised revised guidance for England taking that into consideration. It says efforts should be made to accommodate religious clothing but stresses the importance of teachers and pupils being able to make eye contact. We feel very strongly that this was a matter of principle that there shouldn't be barriers to communication between students and teachers The issue of religious dress has become an increasingly complicated one for schools in recent years, with a handful of high profile cases going to court. But it is the victory by the Buckinghamshire school, which cannot be named for legal reasons, that has prompted the updated guidance. The school argued the veil made communication between teachers and pupils difficult and thus hampered learning. Teachers needed to be able to tell if a pupil was enthusiastic, paying attention or even distressed but full-face veils prevented this, it said. This position was upheld by the High Court - which refused to grant a judicial review - and is expected to form a key part of the guidance. Guidance welcomed Schools need to be able to identify individual pupils in order to maintain good order and to identify intruders, it is expected to say. "If a pupil's face is obscured for any reason the teacher may not be able to judge their engagement with learning or secure their participation in discussions and practical activities," it adds. The head teacher of the Buckinghamshire school, who also cannot be named, said it would be very useful to have some clear guidance from the DfES. "It's not right that schools should have to be arguing this out case by case," she told the BBC News website. "Obviously there's a trade-off between schools retaining autonomy over school uniform decisions, on the other hand we will have some very clear guidance from the DfES within which to work." 'Equality' She said she did not regret the school's decision to fight the case. "We feel very strongly that this was a matter of principle, that there shouldn't be barriers to communication between students and teachers. "We also feel the young people in our school should be educated on an equal basis and be prepared for their role as adults in a modern society in which we expect there to be equality between men and women." The Muslim Council of Britain has not yet responded to the guidance, but in a 72-page document released in February the organisation stopped short of endorsing niqabs for girls. It did, however, urge schools to take into account Muslim pupils' needs to dress modestly and avoid tight-fitting or transparent garments. Financial hardship The DfES guidance also instructs schools to be sensitive to the cost implications of their choice of uniform which should be available at high street shops. A recent letter to all schools from the Office of Fair Trading says they can be prosecuted for engaging in exclusive agreements with specific retailers. The guidance also reiterates schools' right to discipline pupils for not wearing the proper uniform. But they should carefully investigate the reasons behind this and be sensitive in cases of financial hardship.

  15. You can be a good person and not be religion. But, most people without "religious" morals, beliefs do not know what they are gonna do and depend on culture. What I mean is, when you are born an America, you are tought what you are surppose to at a specific age. I mean you do not grow up with morals or anything else. Most americans believe LIVING life is having FUN, as in Drinking, Smoking, and Partying. Before you say I assume, look it over again. MOST AMERICAN's are like this. I am from america, I've seen this my whole life and I have talked to my friends and friends family and teachers. When you are born american, you are not tought what other religious people are tought. Now christians believe going to church to recite spritual scripts are for jesus. They say that if we embrace the time we have on the weekend and give 1 day to church our life will be good and the way we want it. Sikhi is a way of life. Guru Nanak has said(this is summed up in my own words), Live life natural and clean. No Tobacco, Smoking, or Drinking. Now, Gurudwara is a term for "Door to the Guru". The four doors stand for Peace, Livelihood, Grace, and Learning. These doors should be open to ALL. After classifying that. My point is, most of us born outside of our country do not know this and nor do we care. I've spoken to many Non-Native born Sikh's. They either do not have an interest, or do not care. They say they are gonna life like they want, but its not how they WANT, it's the "American" culture they were born into that makes them believe that is the life. Personally, being BORN into an INDIAN family. My mom was never strict about us being INDIANs or AMERICANS. She let me choose. Meaning i grew up and SHE WANTED to atleast teach me the language. After that it was up to me. When I finally grew up old enough to understand why we went to gurudwara, I actually stopped complaining about going to it and actually LOOKED forward to it. Most people still do not look forward to church. Some-Most are starting now to go anymore. They say life is what they will make it. Which is true. But I believe Sikhi is a nice "way of life" religion. Im happy that it gives me set rules as in Live Natural, NO SMOKING, DRINKING. Why i emphasize this(caps) is because both of these thing's make people do very very foolish and stupid things. I believe Guru Nanak Dev Ji is looking out for all of us and is helping us in not making these mistakes. Cheers, -Sikh. P.S. Sorry for all the reading, just my view. I agree and is pretty much what i was trying to say. I dont see Sikhi as any religion - i see it as a way of life - it gives me a guide on a: how to be a good person and live a good life - so i treat others with dignified respect and dont do or say anything to bring harm, grief, upset to anyone else. and b: it is my link between my Guru and my soul. Others choose different links, eg. Hinduism, Islam, Xtianity, etc and that is perfectly fine if it is their choosing. But i find peace only with Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Its weird because i dont think Sikhi really GIVES us morals... i think it more emphasises them and brings them out again. Because, being a good human, first off, would mean us having those morals anyway - for example, its common sense more than anything that we shouldnt smoke or drink coz of our health, or steal because to take what is not ours shouldnt be morals, it should be common sense and its the same with everything in Sikhi. Sorry if i babble a bit jio
  16. So once we are humanitarians in your opinion is that when we have stopped the circle of rebirth? I believe its a step in the right direction... Sikhi is LIFE. If you cant be good humans primarily, tuhaadaa naam japiya bhi kuch nahi kamm auhna... I see so you belive that one can be a good person without the recitation of Naam, i wonder do you belive in the 5 choor A good person is only one who recites naam? Hmm... interesting opinion... i dont know, i meet a lot of people in my day to day life, when im out and about, who i would class as good people, good "humans", as it were. They are not "religious" ... so that makes them bad? From the heart, they are well mannered, good intentions, genuine people... cant really call them bad, if im honest. The panj choor are illusions to me. Its Kaljug whipping you on your backside for you to wake up and realise the existence of Satguru Jee... so the answer to your question "do i believe in the 5 choor?"... is that i dont believe in anything except that my Guru exists and that i must realise that before i can reach His embrace. Everything else is just an illusion...
