  1. I dont really think it was exaggerated. I think people (not anyone in particular) are generally quite naieve. I dont think its the fault of individuals though. I think we underestimate the scope and depth of the problem that does exist. Ok, maybe as Sikhs, we dont face the issues highlighted, but i believe that British "intelligence" (lol) does pay a LOT more attention to the Islamic community. In regards to the way the Police handled the "suspected terrorists"... it happens. If it can happen in America for example, which is supposed to have such an elite Police force, then it sure as hell can happen here in the UK.
  2. Its quite a typical thing this thread has turned into. The thread was originally about the Britz programme and the important issues the drama raised. But it seems people just want to concentrate more on the fact that the actress appeared in her underwear. Lets forget the important issues and concentrate on that then shall we(?)
  3. Just a question to UK sangat who may have watched Britz (which just finished now) on Channel 4 ... what did you think?? For those who dont have a clue what im on about ... http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/B/britz/ "Britz is a gripping two-part thriller about a brother and sister, British-born and Muslim, who are pulled in different directions by their conflicting personal experiences in post 9/11 Britain. " Very interesting and excellently produced IMO...
  4. Excellent. They got what they wanted... early advertisement through forums like this.
  5. Lakes victims 'died accidentally' http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/7059880.stm The trio were part of a Sikh martial arts group Three young Sikh men who drowned in the Lake District last year died accidentally, an inquest has ruled. Harvinder Singh, 15, Satvir Singh, 17, and Tajinder Singh, 21, all from Wolverhampton, died in Ullswater in September 2006. The three were paddling on a trip with a martial arts group in Cumbria when one of them slipped. An inquest into their deaths was held in Kendal, in Cumbria, on Wednesday morning. Coroner Ian Smith praised the actions of bystanders who stepped in and tried to save them. The inquest heard that a total of 26 young men had been in the water at the time recreating a Sikh dipping ceremony. Safety notices Several others were pulled out unconscious from the lake. Mr Smith said that without the intervention of the onlookers, more of the young men could have died. A joint statement released by the families after the hearing said that it had been a tragic accident and they hoped other people would learn from what happened. Mr Smith said that the stretch of water was a hazardous one, and ideally needed safety notices placed around it to warn people of hidden dangers. However, he said as it was so large, at 20 miles (32.2km) long, it would be impractical.
  6. Diane, a young university student, was home for the summer. She had gone to visit some friends one evening and time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year. She ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked "God" to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for "God's" protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped around her, she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely. The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question. Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, "Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her." Moral of the story... Don't underestimate the power of Prayer!

  8. The atmosphere at Nanaksar is just beautiful and listening to kirtan there is ananddddddd :WW:
  9. It is good that even though many were sceptical on the whole Kaurageous thing, it is doing well so keep it up.
  10. I have heard Bhai Harcharan Singh and he is ace. Cant wait to hear em live again
  11. Whats funny is i know many Taksaalis, AKJ's and Nanaksari's in particular... they appear to all to be well respected individuals who have got so much nimratta, pyaar for others and so on. But, unfortunately, most of the time its B.S. Do your work as a humanitarian... not as a "Sikh" because until u do so, you will NEVER become a Sikh. Pehlo aisee INSAAN ta baniye phir Sikh banan da naa lehye. Lets try and be good humans before even trying to be good Sikhs. But i think, over a short time of 300 years, the meaning of being a Sikh has been lost. Look at some of the stupidest posts before me! Guru Nanak Dev Jee taught us principles not to become good Sikhs, but to become good individual persons whereby we help others and become closer to God. The seva, the good you do for people is not something you do as a Sikh... its something we have a duty to do as good humanitarians. THATS what Guru Nanak Jee taught us. But it seems people dont do that any more... people do it for the jathas. People do it for the respect they will get in the jatha when they do it. People do it for the status they can achieve in that jatha. When people aquire a skill or become a professional, they know they will get loads of attention when someone high up in the jatha requires that need. Its typical in every single jatha. Sikhi is not what it used to be... n by reading some of the posts above (and knowing some of those people on a personal level), it brings tears to my eyes to say that Sikhi never will be the same ever again. Sikhi is for the good of humanity. Not the good of jathas. In my opinion, the thread should be closed. Forgive my mistakes. Just my thoughts.
  12. Waheguru ... May Maharaj bless the family through this tough time ahead...
  13. Chill out bruv. Not everyone is at the same level as each other. There are new Singhs n Singhnia joining the forum who have recently come into Sikhi. Dont assume everyone knows what you are on about. Its not nice to put people down like that especially when you dont know there background... Forgive me if ive said anything wrong.
  14. beautiful - his young life is what Gursikhi is all about. The one thing about Taz which i find rare for someone of his age is his ability to balance his life - keeping rehat and japping naam, but also living a practical life. A good Gursikh but i can say personally, a better humanitarian. Love u always veereh
  15. To the sangat reading this... In case you are or are not aware, Smethwick Gurdwara is one of the most largest Gurdwaras in the UK and Europe and is in a prime location where there is a mass population of Gursikhs so heres the science : Large Gurdwara + Loads of sangat = Loads of churaavaa (money) + Power = POLITICS Itll be in SAT-JUG when we dont see many fractions of politics at this Gurdwara so for those wishing to form judgement based on the ***** above me's post... use ure head, concentrate on ure own jeevan and when it comes to Smethwick Gurdwara... just dont give these idiots the satisfaction of causing a rukuss.
  16. Still, the answers to the concerns by sangat have not been addressed. GNNSJ have spent millions on the Soho Road asthaan which is big enough to cater for thousands of people and which is decorated and built in such a way that Maharaj has been given a great level of comfort and satkaar. So why do they need to use this FUTURE Sikh venue for this smagam? Question isnt about what it has been used for or what it to be used for. Question is... why build such big Gurdwaras and spend millions on them when you cant even use them for events like this?!
  17. I STRONGLY AGREE. ORGANISE IT AT THE GURDWARA OR DONT ORGANISE IT AT ALL.
  18. Its working on mine veer. and mannnn, it sure does help at smaagams!. yeh true, the gurbani searcher does work on WM6 fine  In terms of Vista guys, the nack to it is, is that you need to turn off User Account Control in Vistas control panel and reboot!!!!!!
  19. Why is it they need to remove a turban to scan it? I dont get it? i thought they had handheld scanners for all sorts nowdays? If not, they shud create a head scanner where people can just pop their head in it and the machine scans it for wotever they want..
  20. PLEASE(!) U r going to go on the words of these filthy scumbags that she had an affair????????? U gotta be kidding me. We dont know that this is 100% true so dont comment on that. Comment on the facts which is this witch and her son murdered this girl. THE SON :
  21. JUSTICE AT LAST I hope these evil vindictive souls rot in hell. I am just about refraining from swearing. The son, who was shown on BBC News, was wearing a gol dastaar in Sikhi roop. Disgusts me that they have the roop of Sikhs and can commit such evil horrific deeds.
  22. Physical appearance can be important and i think people reli need to be honest with them from the outset. When you are looking for a spouse, u have to look at phsical appearance too IF u r honest to ureself and feel it is important. No need to be shy. It saves problems afterwards. Common example is extra marrital affairs. If you marry someone u dont feel attraction for, then it can lead to people having affairs afterwards or unhappiness. its not the be all and end all obviously, but i think it is a factor to be considered and not swept under the carpet...
  23. it was all the talks/ presentations n stuff which went on till quite late
