  1. Dear piyaare Sangat Jeeo I have a humble request to ask - how does one get out of suffering the consequences of slandering a saint. My background and story is complicated and so I will try to explain it in as much detail as possible in hopes that someone can help me. I am a 26 years old male who has been trying to practice sikhi, since as long as I can remember as a child. Since the start of this janam I have came into this world with a deaf ear (left ear). I suffer from mild to moderate hearing in my only functioning ear (right). This has lead me to believe that I may have slandered people in the past (possibly even a saint) to get this punishment. As a result of my past actions I struggle with life - my relationships are never at peace, my educational success is never good (I got 6 U’s at A levels), I got a 2:1 at university but after 6 years of studying and got a penalty for plagiarism. Even with a degree I work at a factory Wharehouse that gives me inconsistent shifts (3days work out of 7) which has lead me to be poor and miserable… Sanṯ kĝ ninḝak rĝj ṯė hīn. Sanṯ kĝ ninḝak ḝukẖīĝ ar ḝīn. The slanderer of the Saint has no kingdom. The slanderer of the Saint becomes miserable and poor. I have no friends I speak non of my cousins as no one wants to associate with me, everyone talks behind my back including my family (close and far) doubt me, they believe I’m a failure, a loser, tehy call me stupid and goofy, untrustworthy and unreliable. I’ve suffered a car accident at 21. I was brought up in absolute violence, as my parents used to fight over their marriage. I have no hope for the future as nothing ever goes right for me. These are just some of the issues I face in my life, there are plenty more… Sanṯ kĝ ḝokẖī saḝĝ apviṯ. Sanṯ kĝ ḝokẖī kisai kĝ nahī miṯ. The slanderer of the Saint is forever impure. The slanderer of the Saint is nobody's friend. All of these issues have led me to realise that I have slandered a saint in my past life somewhere and I am suffering as a result. Sukhmani sahib says to slander a saint is the worst sin of all, I believe it. sukhmani sahib says: ਸੰਤ ਕੇ ਦੋਖੀ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਲਝ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪॥ Sanṯ kė ḝokẖī kao nĝhī ṯẖĝo. Nĝnak sanṯ bẖĝvai ṯĝ laė milĝė. ॥4॥ The slanderer of the Saint has no place of rest. O Nanak, if it pleases the Saint, then even such a one may merge in union. ॥4॥ I really do feel that I have no place of rest. it also says: ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਦੋਖੀ ਅਧ ਬੀਚ ਤੇ ਟੂਟੈ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਕਾ ਦੋਖੀ ਕਿਤੈ ਕਾਜਿ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੈ ॥ Sanṯ kĝ ḝokẖī aḝẖ bīcẖ ṯė tūtai. Sanṯ kĝ ḝokẖī kiṯai kĝj na pahūcẖai. The slanderer of the Saint breaks down mid-way. The slanderer of the Saint cannot accomplish his tasks. As you can see from my personal life (education and work) my affairs don’t get accomplished. I really do believe I suffer like this… Sanṯ kĝ ḝokẖī io billĝė. Jio jal bihūn macẖẖulī ṯaṛafṛĝė. The slanderer of the Saint bewails like this - like a fish, out of water, writhing in agony. as nothing goes right in my life. sukhamni sahib also describes the reason for my deaf ear… Sanṯ kĝ ḝokẖī bigaṛ rūp hoė jĝė. Sanṯ kė ḝokẖī kao ḝargeh milai sajĝė. The slanderer of the Saint becomes deformed. The slanderer of the Saint receives his punishment in the Court of the Lord. As you guys can see, I have reason to believe that I have slandered a saint in my past life and I am in a janam where I am suffering the consequences of it and there seems to be no escape. I practice Gurbani as much as I can, I am inconsistent due to my suffering as if I’m suffering I reduce my bani. On average over the last 10 years I do my nitnem at minimum, sometimes though I go weeks without doing it. I listen to a lot of Gurbani shabads include: har jio nimaania tu ma’am, tohi mohi mohi tohi, rogi kar parbh kandoh rog, Lakh kushiyan pathshiyan, kar bande tu bandagi, vin boleya san kich jandha, man tu jot saroop hai apna mool pachan and many more. if you guys have gotten this far reading my post thank you, my question is how do I erase the sin of slandering a saint, it feels as if there’s no way out for such a sin. A apologies for my poor grammar and structure of this post. Please feel free to ask for clarification if needed. Please enlighten me sangat jeeo. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh
  2. Anybody know why we jap Vaheguru? The shabad only appears 13 times in Guru Granth Sahib Ji none of our Gurus mentioned it, shabad like Har appears over 9 thousand times, so does anybody know why we have taken to Vaheguru so much ?
  3. We need to sort this out, what goes on in these peoples head.
  4. I have heard the analogy of us being a drop of ocean separated and we are trying to get get back into the ocean, I also believed this. Until I actually read Ang 878, where Guru Nanak Ji, actually is saying we are a drop of ocean within the ocean, but we do not know we are in the ocean.
  5. Well done to all who have studied, understood and recite Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I barely understand Ang1 , but will get there slowly but surely.
  6. Hey up, just a quick one , whist doing paath, I sometimes mispronounce bani (usually due to mind wondering), because I have a you tube video on the TV by the side of me, I can not stop, pronounce it correctly, then continue . I ask forgiveness, once the paath has finished and also ask to keep my mind quite and to not make the mistake again. Just wanted to know is this right way to go about things, and if you have alternative, please advise.
  7. Very informative video from sikh vichar, using Gurbani to understand Sikhi. Admin Note: Sorry, we have to remove your posted video as he is known Anti-Dasam bani.
  8. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! A humble request of Daas to Elder gursikhs on the forum to clear my doubts regarding the prakash of guru sahib at my home. NECESSARY CONTEXT I live in India. My father is the only gursikh in my family. My father, mother, grandmother and I do Nitnem everyday but other members are not much into Sikhi. My family is planning to shift within a year or too and we have made a separate room for guru sahib's prakash. I would like know your opinions on the following- 1) We'll live on the third floor and right now, as per my knowledge, the families who will be living on first, second and fourth floors are Sikhs. However, I am not sure about this. If any manmukhi family starts living on any of the floor and brings meat and alcohol in their homes, so would it lead to beadbi? It's actually not in our hands to choose the new families. 2) We have the fourth floor(for residence) and terrace above our floor(third one) and as it is, people would walk on the floor above guru sahib's prakash room. So does it lead to beadbi? 3) Can we make storage spaces under Sukhasan bed for rumaale and bastars(clothes) of guru sahib. 4) Should the height of pida sahib (where guru sahib is virajmaan) and sukhasan bed be higher than our beds 5) Is degh to be prepared everyday? 6) Light clothes in summer and warm clothes in winter for Guru sahib? Heard this is to be followed but Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji didn't agree with this. 7) Guru Sahib bastars to be changed everyday? Is room cleaning once a week fine or everyday? 9) What to do in case noone to do prakash of guru sahib or whole family not at home for 2-3 days? *******These are questions in case all other protocols are followed by my family******** 5) Noone in my family knows how to do prakash except my grandmother. Though she loves reading bani and Kirtan but doesn't focus much on Rehat. She does colour her hair, prepares chicken for other family members but doesn't eat, no Amrit Vela, no keski/dastaar. However, she does Nitnem daily. Also, I am too not an amritdhari gursikh but I am trying to follow Rehat as much as I can like having Dastaar all the time, Nitnem, Larivaar Pehra, not eating anything from outside but still eat from hands of non amritdharis (slowly working on it, trying to learn to cook), gurmat ishnaan and necessary sucham, amritvela dhill sometimes etc etc. But, obviously I am not a Sikh right now. Can we manmukhs do prakash Sewa? 6) Only me and my father are really worried about keeping full satkaar of guru sahib and my family doesn't care much about it. Yes, but still they want. I don't want them to watch films and serials in the lobby near prakash room but I don't think they'll listen. Actually, my father is the only gursikh in my family. Noone cares much and is not willing to sacrifice anything for satkaar of guru sahib. They even don't mind bringing meat home. They don't mind shouting and abusing people on the phone when they are completely audible in the prakash room. Noone wears Dastaar except me and my father. Males come with a small cloth on their head and females with a chunni. I seriously don't want guru sahib to come at home because I know we would only do their apmaan (disrespect) but noone cares to listen to this 16 year old kid. My father too doesn't say much to my grandparents and others when they advocate for something wrong. Anyways, I am trying my best to convince them to have senchiaan but Vaheguru knows what will happen. 7) I personally would want to take hukamnaama and do sehaj Paath from Larivaar saroop only but don't have it virajmaan right now. I have persuaded by grandmother, father and mother to take hukamnaama and do sehaj Paath after having full gurmat ishnaan (including Kes). However, they paid a deaf ear to it. Does this lead to serious beadbi ? ? I am strictly in favor of Larivaar Saroop of Maharaj and I have encouraged my parents and grandmother to read banis in Larivaar only and with Guru Sahib's kirpa they have started. I clearly said that if we are all able to develop skills then we would have Larivaar saroop only. But, I don't think they'll let it happen. Daas humbly apologizes at the feet of gursikhs for any mistakes. I am fully devoted towards keeping satkaar of guru sahib and would like to know your opinions. Also, please give me some tips how can I convince my family to not have prakash at home. Already had 3-4 long talks with them where noone had any answer of the wrongs and disrespect they did. But still they take it off by saying 'we'll see'. May guru sahib do kirpa. Bhul chuk di maafi Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  9. Never knew this bani was composed with extra saloks by Guru Arjan Ji.

  11. Why are so many people against it nowadays? I dont see much controversial about this, other than if some people claim that this is the only way to recite complete swaroop Guru Sahib, or those who say it "enhances" the effect of shabad which would imply that akhand paath is inferior. Unless someone is paying a paathi to do one for something in particular (same thing happens with akhand paaths) and they dont even listen to it and thus treat sri guru granth sahib as a wish genie of mantras; otherwise I dont anything offensive if a person does it themselves or at least with shardaa. Why do some people regard this method of gurbani recitation as beadbi? WaHeguru jio.
  12. Started watching this guy , think his explanation and contemplation on Guru Granth Sahib Ji is awesome, check it out. Thoughts? Anybody else watched this series? Ramnik Pal Singh Randhawa - Shabad Vichaar from Theory To Praxis:
  13. So I was on linked in today, one of my connection a Sikhni with phagg, so she looks like a follower of Sikhi, had a post 'the importance of your name' wherein she goes on and quote "Your name is often your greatest connection to your self identity and individuality." I responded with, quote " why get caught up on ones name? Are we not supposed to get rid of attachment? Such as 'self identity' or 'ego'. She then replied with quote "That's another view on it - thank you for sharing your thoughts. For many of us it's about courtesy and showing each other respect." It got me thinking are we now in situation, where we think we know better than the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji? Or am I making a mountain out of a mole hill. Would like some other people's thoughts on it. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

  16. How do we establish the authenticity of the Kartarpuri Bir???? I am aware most of the below sources are misquoted as per Al-Taqiyaa and anyone familiar with Bhangu's works will know he himself takes great pains to establish it's authenticity. But still wondering. P.S. This isn't the English Gurinder Singh Maan, this is the American. http://www.islam-sikhism.info/hist/kartarpuri01.htm A
  17. Dear Sangat Ji VJKK VJKF, I just want to ask the question that is it mandatory (maryada) for Shastars to be present in front of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Sometimes I have been to some Gurdwaras and sometimes I see gurdwaras on tv and see that Guru Ji is prakash and there are no shastars. I find it strange that Guru Ji is without shastar. Please can others share their experience, if they feel the same way. Also what can be done about this. Thank you, VJKK VJKF
  18. In a shocking and shameful incident, Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji taken to do Parkash and Kirtan at a Bollywood Night Club Bar in Malaysia. The incident took place on 5th January at Moshi Moshi Nightclub. which promises a ‘brand new clubbing’ and the ‘craziest Bollywood’ experiences. The spark that ignited the issue was the act of bringing the SGGS into the pub premises on the pretext of holding prayers on that Sunday evening. The night club owners had issued an apology for their actions on the same night, with a statement posted on one of the Facebook pages promoting the premises. In a impromptu meeting that same night, Sarabjit Singh Rangila Durgwale, the kirtani involved, had also apologised for what he termed as an error of judgment on his part, according to people who were present personally. When the word starting making its way via social media around 7pm, a group of young Sikh men had gone to the night club. According to eye-witnesses available at the place of incident, he said that “When we reached there, the prayer programme was about to complete, We waited for the semaphti and then took Guru maharaaj [sGGS] to Titiwangsa.” The SGGS saroop was brought to the premises from Gurdwara Sahib Titiwangsa, a gurdwara in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Some of the boys were quite upset, angry. We managed to calm them down. We told them to send five people to speak to Rangila,” said Baldave Singh Leo, an entrepreneur and a renown local kirtani, who happened to be at the Tatt Khalsa programme. A meeting was held today at 2pm attended by sikh organization, namely SNSM, MGC, Niketan,SGGS Academy and committee members from titiwangsa gurd. After lengthy deliberation the meeting decided unanimously that it is best for the Panj Piaray to summon the relevant persons to appear at Gurd Sahib Titiwangsa at 8.00pm tonight(5th January 2015) to hear the case and decide accordingly. 5 Piaray representing the above organization hereby summoned the following persons to come before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Panj Piaray A) Sukhwinder singh Bedi (owner of the pub) B) Sarabjit singh rangila and jatha (Kirtani jatha that performed at the pub) C) Shamandeep singh and jatha (Kirtani jatha that performed at the pub) D) Shankar singh (sewadar from titiwangsa gurd that served as giani ji in the function at the pub) According to Sikh Channel, Panj Pyarey later made the decision in the presence of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Sadh Sangat on the 5th January 2015 at Gurdwara Sahib, Titiwangsa. The Panj Pyarey have unanimously agreed that all persons summoned are guilty of their act and are punishable. These are the thankah (punishment): 1. Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Bedi – One Akhand Paath at GS Titiwangsa – 4 hours of total listening to Baani during the Akhand Paath. – Mool Mantar 108 a day for 40 days. – 7days Jorey(shoes) Di Sewa out of the 40 days – Ardass & Degh after the 40days. 2. Bhai Sarabjit Singh Rangila & Jatha – One Sukhmani Sahib per day each of them, for 40days. – Jorey(shoes) Di sewa for 11days out of the 40days – Ardass & Degh after the 40days. 3. Bhai Shamandeep Singh & Jatha – Three Japji Sahib Paath per day, each of them, besides their Nitnem for 40 days - Paandey(Utensils) Di sewa for 11days, out of the 40 days – Ardass & Degh after 40 days 4. Giani Shankar Singh – Three Japji Sahib per day for 40days, besides his Nitnem – Charu(Sweeping) Di sewa at the Gurdwara compound for 40days – Ardass & Degh after 40 days 5. Gurdwara Committee – Akhand Paath to be organized by the committee members at Gurdwara Sahib Titiwangsa with their own maya(money) from Daswandh – Sewa during the Akhand Paath The Panj Pyarey has reminded that this act should not be repeated ever again. This is the decision by the Panj Pyarey. The Sangat is requested to abide by the decision. The Panj Pyarey has requested to set up a Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Satkaar Committee to draw up guidelines & framework on Satkar of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. 19. I wanted to know what it says in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji about why God watches so many people and/or animals suffer and not do anything? Or something related to that. I am asking this because I, myself, haven't read the entire Guru Granth Sahib Ji yet so I don't know what it says about this topic or if it is even mentioned at all. Secondly, I am asking this because I feel very distraught. I saw a man brutally beat and kill this innocent little dog right in front of my eyes this afternoon. The little puppy didn't do anything to deserve such a horrible death. I tried to stop him but I got pushed away. I also called the police. They are currently investigating. I didn't even know who the man was. Anyways, I really hope that man gets karma for what he did. And I wanted to know why God lets innocent people and animals suffer sometimes. Is there a purpose to their suffering? Is anything about this said in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji? Thank you for reading and I apologize beforehand if I said something wrong or if this thread offends anyone.
  20. As everyone reads Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and believe that it is true. Here is a line from a shabad of GURU GRANTH SAHIB " ਬਾਦੁ ਬਿਬਾਦੁ ਕਾਹੂ ਸਿਉ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੨॥" so why do we discuss a lot rather than meditating? Your views. My view is meditation is most emphasized in Guru Granth Sahib ji.

  23. Exposed: Beadbi of 22 Saroops of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj stored in warehouse in London On Tuesday 3rd September 2013 members of the Saadsangat received a telephone call that 22 Saroops of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee were being stored in a commercial warehouse (trading as a company called Trimex UK Ltd) in Feltham, West London. After further investigation by local Sangat members it came to light that the people who collected and sent 400 Saroops of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji to India in 2007,(claiming that all of those Saroops were Biird – too old to be read)were once again gathering Saroops and storing them at this warehouse. In turn it was discovered that Saroops were being actively collated from around the UK so that once a few hundred had been collected they would be shipped off to India to a place known as Mai Bhago Centre in Dehradun, India. Once again the Saroops were all being deemed as Biird i.e. too old to be read, so they should be sent for Agan Beth Seva (cremation). The owners of the warehouse and various committee members of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib in southall were actively responsible for the original 400 Saroops being sent to India in 2007. After the 400 Saroops were shipped to India in 2007, a consortium of Panthic elders (ranging from Gurdwara Sahib Committee leaders and representatives of various Jathabandia)held a series of meetings with the people responsible and sternly reprimanded them. It was agreed that such major actions regarding so many Saroops of Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee leaving the UK could never be taken by a few individuals but first must be addressed by the whole of the Sikh Community in the UK. Especially at a time when hundreds of Saroops are being shipped into the UK once again by private individuals who claim that there is a very big shortage of Saroops in the UK. Unfortunately even on this occasion the owners of the aforementioned warehouse and various committee members of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib are at the forefront of these 22 (perhaps more) Saroops being collected and stored. At around 6.30pm the majority of the Sangat accompanied by a full reporting team of the Sikh Channel, started arriving at the Warehouse. The son of the owner advised the Sangat that the Saroops were longer here and that they were taken to Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib. 3 members of the Sangat that arrived around 6.15pm stated that they had seen a van and a car pulling away quite speedly with about 4 people inside with a Chor Sahib, just as they arrived at the warehouse. Members of the Sangat then requested that the Sikh Channel team should be allowed access to the room where the Saroops were originally kept. However, the owners son flatly refused all requests, citing that we had to wait for his father to arrive from Southall ( a journey of approx 15mins). The Sangat patiently waited for 45mins but there was still no sign of his father, the Sangat then demanded that the Sikh Channel team be given access. After much deliberation this was then given. The Sikh Channel Team were shown to a double sized room which contained a Manji Sahib all ready for Maharaj and a cot sized bunk bed, however there were no Saroops present. Due to the fact that the cot sized bunk beds would have been extremely too small for 22 Saroops and also the question as to why the Saroops were in the Warehouse, it was decided that the Sangat should wait there for the owner to arrive and address the Sangats concerns. Whilst the Sangat were peacefully waiting the owners son called the police to remove the Sangat, citing that the warehouse was private property. The Sangat at this time were feeling very oppressed as the police were being very uncooperative, thankfully elders amongst the Sangat liased with the police and got the son to have a direct conversation with the Sangat by telephone. In this call the owner invited the Sangat to come to Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib saying that all 22 Saroops were now there and himself and the Committee would happily answer all the Sangats questions. Upon arriving at Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib it seemed that there were very few people there(Maharajs Sukhasan had happened) and when asked nobody seemed to know anything regarding the 22 Saroops. Members of the Sangat accompanied by the Sikh Channel Team then proceeded to have Darshan of Guru Jees Sachkhand hoping the 22 Saroops would be there, unfortunately this was not so. The owner was not picking up his calls, and there was nobody present at the Gurdwara Sahib who knew about the Saroops. The Sangat at this point were feeling very agitated. Thankfully one Singh managed to get the telephone number of the Pardhan Sahib of the Gurdwara, Harpal Singh. One of the elders in the Sangat then proceeded to call him. In that conversation Harpal Singh informed the Sangat exactly where the Saroops were in the Gurdwara Sahib (there was a very small room above the Sachkhand). He was then questioned about the whole scenario involving not only these 22 Saroops but also the previous times where Saroops were stored in the same warehouse and then sent to india involving the same Gurdwara Sahib. He very openly and honestly gave the whole story how Sevadaar collect Biird (old) Saroops in there hundreds from around the country ( store them in the warehouse and the Gurdwara Sahib)and then send them to India for Saskar (creamation). He went on to say that Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Sahib were currently in the process of building a Anghita Sahib here in Southall, so that they could do the Saskar Seva (cremation) here. He apologised that as he was away, he could not meet the Sangat but reassured them that members of the Commitee would meet the Sangat the next morning. As members of the Sangat had Darshan of the small room where the 22 Saroops were, it was a very big shock to see how the Saroops were kept in a room so small that it would be impossible for one person to sleep in. The passageway leading to the room was severely packed, the door was tightly shut and there was no fans, It felt very hot and stuffy due to the lack of air. The Sangats first reaction was that Maharaj could not stay here, however as it was now 10.30pm, it was decided that the door should be kept open and fans be bought in to make the conditions slightly better at least until Amritvela the next day. 5 Singhs from the Sangat volunteered to stay with Maharaj throughout the night as all other members of the Sangat were instructed to go home. It was agreed that although the conditions in which the 22 Saroops were being kept were very wrong the first thing to do was the Darshan of each Saroop at Amritvela to see how Biird (old) they really were. At approx 4.15am the next day ( Wednesday 4th)over 20 members of the Sangat (including the vice president of Guru Nanak Darbar - Dr T S Wadhwa and several other members of the commitee) were blessed with the Pavitar Darshan of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj. The most amazing thing is that Guru Jees Saroop were perfect, in every way. It was never possible to even think this Saroop could ever be considered as Biird (old). Dr Wadhwa ( the vice pres) was present and totally agreed that this Saroop was perfect. They even questioned the Granthi Singhs as to who had Darshan of this Saroop and deemed the Saroop to be Biird (old), to which there were only confusing looks as answers. This Seva then continued for all the other Saroops, each and everyone of them were far from being considered Biird (old) and only fit for Saskar (cremation). A few of the Saroops were in need of seva of the Angs, something that is currently performed by Singhs in Havelock Rd Gurdwara Sahib. It was then decided by the sangat and amicably agreed (with Guru Nanak Darbar committee) that it would be best that the saroops should be placed in the Sachkhand at Havelock Rd Gurdwara where there would be enough space for the Seva to take place. Two Saroops were also taken to Guru Amar Dass Gurdwara Sahib as they were needed for daily Prakash and as they were in such good condition this would be possible. The Sangat would like to thank all Gurdwara Sahibs and Media channels that helped with the Seva, but most of all Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj for once again enlightening the world with Pavitar Prakash.
