Local football teams
by Guest Kaur- 1 reply

Wjkk Wjkf Hi, we are a couple moving from Somerset to Halesowen in Birmingham. I was wondering if there were any local football teams that my husband could join. He is 36 years old, nothing at a competitive level, just a weekly kick about in the park as something to keep fit. Also it would be a good opportunity to make some new friends within the sikh community here too. We are about a 10min drive from Oldbury. Thanks

Vjkkvjkf, What are some useful websites or places I can visit for a suitable gursikh partner. Specifically, I am a 24 year old gursikh male searching for 24 or younger gursikh match. Me and my family are all Canadian citizens and live in Ontario. I am also asking my local sangat as well but I would like to your suggestions as well. Thank you. Vjkkvjkf

Can you eat after doing Kirtan Sohila or do you have to go to sleep?

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki fateh! Sangat Ji I was just curious as to whether I could eat after doing Kirtan Sohila or not. I know you're supposed to Kirtan Sohila before going to sleep bit I usually spend 1 and a half hours to 2 and a half hours sometimes more doing paath in which I miss the time to eat Roti. Just curious if I could eat after Kirtan Sohila as I'm usually hungry after paath and just have a bottle of water to keep my stomach from growling all night. Thanks for taking the time to read my question and reply to it. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki fateh!

Accidentally removed hair, I didn't know it was hair on my fore head as I thought it was blacks heads, but when I took it out I realised it was hair. Would I have to go for peshi or should I just do ardass? I wouldn't have poped the hair if had known it was hair.

Bani question
by Guest Guest- 1 reply

I have a couple of questions about doing path, if someone could kindly help me out? I learned to chant gurbani from audio made by a 3HO Sikh, and although I now know it by heart and love it, I've learned enough to tell the pronunciation and even some of the words are off. What I've got into the habit of doing is singing the Bani while reading the English so I have an idea of what I'm saying. So I've been studying Gurmukhi in order to sort out the problems with how I do it and to understand the Punjabi words instead of going through the English. It's getting better, but the thing I need help with is that it doesn't seem to 'work' when I'm doing this. I can't…

halal Halal food
by Guest ChardiKala- 1 reply

Guru Granth Sahib forbids eating of halal or any meat killed according to ritual beliefs. Muslims have successfully lobbied to get most of the restuarants even in Sikh populated areas to serve only Halal food. However, it hurts me to see keshdhari Sikhs sitting in Shwarma place and other Pakistani joints happily eating Halal food. When you talk to them, they plead ignorance. These are the same Sikhs who tend to lecture other mona Sikhs about keeping kesh. Why are they not following the tenants and protesting about the creeping Halal everywhere? Our school where 50% of the students are Sikh now serve Halal hot dogs because of only 5% Muslims. None of the Sikhs care about t…

Pakhandvaad?

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I had a question about what one should do (after they brush their Kesh) with the dead hairs that are cleaned out with the kanga... I used know a lot of taksali Singh's who said it was necessary to collect them up, the eventually do sanskar by burning them (trying to maintain as much satkar as possible), but now from my current understanding I'm starting to feel ritualistic about this. Please help me understand if it's correct or wrong. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Kesh during grappling/wrestling/jiu-jitsu
by Guest anonymous1993- 1 reply

Hi All, I have been a monah for the majority of my life but recently (around a year ago) with Maharaj Kirpa, I started keeping my Kesh. When I was younger I used to train in various martial arts including MMA & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but due to a combination of injuries, studies and laziness (probably the largest factor) I stopped training. I am now looking to get back into martial arts and would like advice on what to wear to keep my Kesh tidy and covered whilst grappling? Thanks

Do names matter?
by Guest Squid- 1 reply

I think a similar thread was open in the past about this topic so please feel free to merge the two threads if needed. Ive noticed a trend in second generation punjabis naming there children non gurmant names. Names like - Ricky, Tanya, Tanisha, Rhianna, Danyal, Alisha, Eliza, Tia... these are just a few names I have heard of in my family circul alone! Some of these names sound Hindu and other muslims or English. I even have a Punjabi friend who has names his two siblings Dillon and Vikram. I understand the typical Jeet, Preet, Deep names just don't sound all that appealing anymore but is it ok to have such non sikh sounding names? we as a community have lo…

1947 Kabali Raid Kashmir Eyewitness Account
by Guest Harkiran Kaur- 1 reply

Since I can't post anymore after being banned for sticking up for AKJ (and I am not even AKJ lol) anyway since I can't post this under my own account, still wanted to share. Eyewitness accounts from survivors of the 1947 Kabali Raid in Kashmir. I got privilege to work on this project. It's only first episode (I did the editing) and for future episodes I also got to do all the video shooting as well. Can honestly say it was difficult for all of us seeing the emotion coming upon recalling the tragic memories. Their stories need to be shared.
