Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today proposed that the Sikh community living in Haryana could spend the entire offering collected from various historic gurdwaras there on its own. Badal was replying to a query from mediapersons after addressing a rally held on the occasion of Rakhar Punia here today. Badal said if the leaders of the ad hoc Haryana Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee felt that the offering collected in Haryana was not being spent on the development and renovation of their shrines, then they could keep the amount in that state only. When asked what position would be offered to president of the SAD Sukhbir Badal if he won the byelection from Jalalabad, the C…

A new poll shows British Columbians are not nearly as favorably disposed to some religions, particularly Sikhism, as many would expect. The extensive Angus Reid poll reveals that being “tolerant” is far more complicated than pro-multicultural Canadians like to think. Especially in B.C. Half of the country’s roughly 350,000 Sikhs live in British Columbia, particularly in Surrey and Vancouver. But only 28 per cent of British Columbians surveyed reported a favourable impression of Sikhism, according to Angus Reid pollster Andrew Grenville. That was well below the figures in provinces where Sikhs are far less numerous, like neighboring Alberta, where 47 per cent reported …

They should be allowed to exercise their constitutional and democratic right. …

Hoshiarpur, August 4 The Dal Khalsa hits out at Punjab chief minister and his son for playing into the hands of those who have scant respect for Guru Granth Sahib. President, DSGMC, Paramjit Singh Sarna in association with like-minded Sikh organisations will field candidates on all 170 seats of the SGPC in the ensuing elections. He has been meeting leaders of various Panthic organisations in Punjab personally to seek their views and support on the issue. After that, he will convene a meeting to chalk out a common strategy for contesting the SGPC elections. In reply to a question here yesterday, Sarna said for the first time he had made up his mind to contest all 170 seats of the SGPC to get the SGPC freed from the control of Badals (Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal) as the present SGPC, despite having a Rs 450-c…
