  2. http://www.thekcrachannel.com/news/3930127/detail.html Surveillance Camera Captures Armed Robbery Store Owner Fights Back Against Robber POSTED: 10:12 am PST November 18, 2004 UPDATED: 10:22 am PST November 18, 2004 EMPIRE, Calif. -- Investigators in Stanislaus County are looking for a group of armed robbers, and they hope images from a surveillance camera will help in that search. Three robbers hit a convenience store in Empire recently. The cameras captured graphic images of the robbery as it was happening. The robbers can be seen attacking the store's owner, even holding a gun to his head. But the owner fought back and was shot in the hand. Authorities said even then, the owner would not give up. "He finally makes it out, but the 69-year-old victim is still holding onto his leg ... he doesn't want to let him go," Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Campbell said. Investigators said the cameras captured a tattoo on the back of one of the robbers, and they hope that will help them identify the man and lead to an arrest. Copyright 2004 by TheKCRAChannel. Singh. 69 year old running the minimart or something at the Arco gas station. The robbers came in and he struggled with them. He's a retired military man........he grabbed the barrel of the gun and they fired a shot into his hand. He's a turbaned sardar and in the struggle his turban came off. anyway....wow, takes guts to fight back like that!
  3. ah come on.......i know theres gotta be sangat here who play the harmonia and know what the "stops" are for?
  4. :HP: Gurpreet Singh ji hey wheres the gulab jaman/ladoo/samosa guy? ain't we having sweets on this occasion...
  5. your gonna juz love this----> we got this lil plastic murti of Lakshmi, like maybe 12" in height. Every year on divali, we make a diva, it takes forever to find cotton to make a wick, lol. Anyway finally when the diva is ready, we put it in a tray in front of Lakshmi's murti....then we put change money in the tray and matha tek to Lakshmi. This is most ridiculous thing ever, for us to be matha tek-ing to Lakshmi and asking her for success in our education or for money. I stopped matha tek-ing to the murti last year or the year before. now i'm like "you guys wanna matha tek to that murti go ahead........not me!"
  6. WOW hanji, thats what i was talking bout and wanted to know more bout. thanx for that long BUT thorough info! Its sad that in this modern day and age sikh brides are being held and walked during lavaan by brothers... and that bit about the sehra......i didn't know at all where that started from, i thought it was juz a punjabi cultural thing.... our ppl are so good at being copycats. they gotta copy what other ppl are doing reeso-reesee. In China, there was this emperor whose wife had a deformity/defect in her feet so her feet were really tiny. Her lil feet became the fashion and then the Chinese would wrap the feet of their lil girls so the toes would curl under the feet......eventually the toes would deform, sometimes shrivel and disappear.....all juz to make their feet small and "beautiful" cuz thats how the emperor liked it. Thank God at least this kinda feet torturing didn't start with punjabiz or else my feet would be . hey, so what about maeeya, the yellow stuff they rub on the bride and groom on the day before the wedding? I read in an article that this is a hindu tradition and holds no value in sikhi. makes sense cuz its juz a stupid ritual. And what about Jago? The ladies in the pind go around waking up everyone and pushing ppl to the side and oveturning manjis......... What about mehndi? What about the rasam thing where the brides mama ji dips the bangles in milk and puts em on her arms? And Chunni di rasam? HOw about Milni at the gurdwara before the wedding? I know dowry is anti sikhi but doesn't milni kinda still do that? The grooms' family is taken gold rings and heavy winter blankets from brides family in the milni. A relative family of mine went to India to find a bride for their son and they got like close to 20 blankets and rings from the brides family.....and this was juz engagement party, not the actual wedding  So what you guys think of milni? Is this gurmat or not? after reading the above article, imma gonna have to say that some so called "sikhs" are more brahmin than they are sikhs please everyone share your views on this and post other such practices and rituals that we are doing, cuz so many of us don't know what the heck we are doing......we're juz doing it cuz everyone else does it
  7. if u search the topic in the forum, you'll find plenty discussed on it before. if you still need more info, then contact me and i'll send you my research on it---->all the quotes from gurbani that i found on the topic, etc.
  8. Vipran Kee Reet? Whats that? Never heard of it till this forum.......someone explain.....
  9. lose the bhangra slot and the sikhi slots need to come in  theres already lots of radio programs or tv programs that have plenty of bhangra or other stuff. theres not enough sikhi parchar i haven't heard sukhsagarradio alot but the few times i tuned in they didn't have no bhangra on there, and they sound like a very successful radio station. so RADIO KOHINOOR should be fine as well :e: Advertise it on every sikh site/forum out there.......make big posters and post it at the gurdwaras, stick flyers to car windshields in the gurdwara parking lots, give your flyers to indian store wale so customers coming in can take one. juz basically do advertising campaign and you'll get more listeners and callers for the radio station :TH:
  10. hmmm.... since theres all sorts of flight regulations now and sikhs can't keep their kirpan with them in the airplane......can the lil one in the necklace be used in place of a person's normal kirpan during a flight? If I had a kirpan I wouldn't wanna part with it and stick it in my suitcase  ......but us foreigners gotta go to India too once in a while....So can this be used as something that temporarily takes the place of the normal kirpan in these kinds of circumstances? :D what does sangat ji think?
  11. Check out this thread for some guides..... Click on the "Gurmat Sangeet Appreciation" link Theres some helpful stuff in there as well, including keyboard scale.... hope it helps
  12. What are the stops for? What do they do? Is it better if theres more or less? How does it effect the sound? Mine only has 2.....
  13. -----------self edited---------done, taken care of-------thanx!----------
  14. that site is looking good, i like the background color....maybe thats called web template? What I thought was interesting was that the menu stuff was on the right hand side........I usually see sites with menu on left side. so that was new thing. As your site gets older, your gonna add more stuff, especially like in the download and kirtan sections, so then the site is gonna get better cuz it'll have more stuff :TH:
  15. I'm juz curious and want to know whats the difference between a taksali kirpan and a regular kirpan? Is it the quality? Or is it juz how it looks? Maybe can we get some pictures here to compare....? thanx

  20. first of all I'm the wrong person to give advice cuz I suck at it, but I'll put in my thoughts anyway.... dj'in is juz a career, probably not even that, juz a job to do on the side for your weekends for some pocket money. At least thats what dj ppl I know do. On the other hand, Sikhi is a way of life, a lifestyle, something forever. Its not like a career that you can change when you hit your midlife crisis or something. thirdly, doing dj business is gonna lead you wayyyyyyyy off the sikhi path. you might wanna choose a different career if I were you like I said, I'm bad at giving advice, but take this test and see what your strengths and weaknesses are. Or you can take the longer version. Then you'll get some info on your personality type, and you can also go here for more info on careers that fit your type. someone else gotta give better advice than me..... :WW:
  21. hey ya'll Tell me about "Orthodox Sikhs." How are they different from Sikhs in general or amritdhari sikhs? Why do some ppl have a negativeness about orthodox sikhs? And is there something wrong with being a fundamentalist rather than being an in between, sort of middle of the road type of person? please share and discuss...
  22. Only 12 more days left!!! Come on......someone here who is in Delhi MUST GO and check it out and take pics for us! OR ELSE............. so yeah GO!
  23. I wouldn't care if it was endorsed by a particular specific jatha, whethter it be akj, taksal, or whatever. I don't belong to any specific jatha, i juz wanna belong to khalsa panth one day. so basically, if the keertan thats gonna happen at this smagam is in line with gurmat---> then go and take full laaha of it. As long as they are teaching you the right things, saying the right things, teaching you sikhi or sikh history----> its all good so take laaha of it. some of us quickly become fans of a certain jatha or a certain keertan raagi jatha......but the thing is no matter who is singing gurbani, you should go and enjoy it. but then again i know nothing bout these jatha problems what your talking bout with the uk akj wale........so you can take my advice or not........ :H:
