  1. I wonder how the Giani's\sevadars maintain the Gurdwaras in Mecca since non-muslims are not allowed
  2. Have you tried holding 'ctrl' + scrolling up or down on the mouse? or View > Text/Font size > Increase/Decrease
  3. Wondering whether any of you folks can help me with a photo I took. I'm trying to find out the name of this Gurdwara for somebody on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brind/1671167092/sizes/m/ I went to this and many more Gurdwara's in Summer 07 which is why I can't remember its name. This Gurdwara is in Kartarpur if I remember correctly. Also opposite the Gurdwara, on the left, is a place dedicated to somebody called Baba Wadbhag Singh, I think (excuse my ignorance). Also if you look at the photo, there were men bathing to the left of the guy with the turban showing. I've had a look at Gurdwaras in Kartarpur at Sikhiwiki but I don't think its any of them. I'm probably wrong. Does anybody here know? Thanks
  4. I'd be interested to hear why they think that before giving them an answer
  5. It's simple really: 1) Not good enough or 2) Your parents want you to be a doctor etc - no support Racism is NOT a factor. Look at the black English football players (the real football), they've made it. Some even play for England. Look at Monty Panesar, he's a top player, playing for the England cricket team. Obviously he made the grade. You're either good enough or you're not. In the English cricket team, there's Monty, Ravinder Bopara, and Sajid Mahmood. So theres three Asian players in a single squad. There is enough Asian talent in cricket, just not for other major sports such as football etc. Harpal Singh played for Leeds if I remember correctly. Also there is Michael Chopra who currently plays for Sunderland in the Premier league.
  6. Does this help?: http://www.ghacks.net/2008/01/02/set-trans...microsoft-word/
  7. Haha, now where did I see you Actually thinking about it. We must have gone in the first week of August '03. I remember we to India in the last week of July and 1 week later we went to Hemkunt Sahib. So it must have been the first few days of August when we went. I'll ask my mum to make sure anyway. Coincidentally, on our way there and back there were landslide problems. The first landslide problem was quite abit after where the bujurgh babeh do sewa of pakoreh and chaa. You can't have missed them as they literally stop in the middle of the road and force you to pull in and have some langar (they're at a bend). We had to wait at least 3hours before they dynamited the massive rock out of the way. It was really hot that day too and as a result our car suffered a few punctures whilst standing stationary for so long. On the way back there were similar problems but not as bad. Also there was some political problem there and as a result they were not letting people leave Gobind Ghat easily. Till this day, I still haven't forgotten the maalishes I had done at Gobind Dham and Gobind Ghat. They were so painful yet incredibly relaxing. It's like they rip into your legs! I still remember them walking about shouting "Tel maaliiiiiiiiiiiiiish" in a high pitched voice Looks like we experienced very similar things Bundha..maybe we went on the same day...we were in a purple toyota qualis :D
  8. If I understood you correctly, you want to insert a graphical signature onto another image - i.e. place one image on top of the other?
  9. Agreed. You should go there and check out the glasses for yourself. As it has already been said, it is only a few hundred yards from Sirhind. I know there is alot of scepticism but we respect what the Giani told us, whether they are real or not :D
  10. As above really ^^ We went in July, 2003. First we went to Paonta Sahib then Rishikesh Gurdwara. We stayed the night at the Rishikesh sangat rooms. I'm not sure if this was planned but it was a wise decision as by that time we were really tired, and it was pouring down with rain. Carried on through out the night. We headed on next morning. But we had to make a premature stop before we could reach Gobind Ghat as it was dark and visibility was low. So we stayed in a hotel. The next morning we left for Gobind Ghat (8/9/10/am), and started the journey upwards. As there were quite a number of us, it took us about 6-7hours to reach Gobind Dham. When you reach Gobind Dham, you'll be more than half way, before the final and enduring ascent upwards. Here, the majority of people stay the night and wake up early morning and resume their journey. I would advise you to wake up and leave at 6-7am if you want to be sure to reach Hemkunt Sahib before the final ardaas (1.30 or 2.30). We left abit late, at about 9-10am. Because of this, and because of our relatively large group, we reached there when the final ardaas had started. After the final ardaas, everybody leaves (disappears in a flash more like - there was so much sangat) as it gets dark relatively quickly. We did our Ishnaan after Matha Tekna. We were the only sangat left. Also be sure to checkout the small room where Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Shastaar are kept. It's at the back of the complex, opposite the back entrance from the freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezing cold Sarovar. If you arrive late like we did, then leave as soon as you can. It was pitch black when we were on our way back to Gobind Dham. We stayed the night again, before making our way back to Gobind Ghat. That's it really. It was a very memorable experience for me, and as they say "journey of a lifetime". Can't wait to go again. Enjoy your journey, and admire the beautiful scenery on your way to Sri Hemkunt Sahib. My advice: . Take powdered Glucose . Plenty of water as bottled water gets more expensive the higher you go . Appropriate clothing/trainers for the slippery/wet conditions you will most likely face . Don't go on donkey if you can help it. It defeats the whole purpose of the yaatra in my opinion. . Enjoy it!
  11. I don't want Sikh rules in this country, Islam, Buddhist, whatever. You live in this country (whichever western country), you live by the country's rules. Integrate. Why should Muslims impose their own rules just to suit themselves. It's a poor world we live in today.
  12. Yeah I know what you mean. I'm not saying that I believe him. I'm just telling you what he said to me:) The Gurdwara is 'Gurwara Shaeed Moti Ram Jee'. And the Giani in question: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brind/1535231923/ I don't have any contact with the Gurdwara. Our family and friends were on a Gurdwara day trip and we visited this Gurdwara after Sirhind. I had never seen/heard of this Gurdwara before. :D Alot can be said about many 'historical objects' though - Guru's shastar (sp), panjha sahib, bhatta sahib (also in my flickr) etc. Its up to us whether we want to believe or not :umm: They're not in perfect condition: A close up here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brind/1536112096/ shows that the one on the right is split from the back. The one on the other side has minor damage too. Overall, I would say they were not in a really bad condition for an 'historical object(s)'
  13. I asked him about when they were found, and he just said 30 years ago. Didn't ask him any thing else. The Giani Ji asked us if we wanted to know the history behind the glasses. He told us they were used by Baba Moti Mehra to provide milk for the Sahibzade. He provided it for 4 days. He was eventually caught and as a result he and his family were tortured to death.
  14. Hi Just noticed this. Those photos were taken by myself :D It is indeed very close to the Sirhind/Fatehgarh Sahib. The Giani (have a pic of him in my flickr) told us that they were found 30 years ago. Thanks for the Gurdwaras name, totallty forgot what it was!
