  4. This is on Tapoban phorum. Author: uk singh Date: 06-06-04 04:29 In June 1984 Indian army troops launched a full-scale military assault on the holiest of shrines in the Sikh religion, the Golden Temple. 150,000 army troops were deployed for the assault which involved special commando troops, helicopter gun ships, heavy artillery, tanks and even chemical gas - resulting in the deaths of over 2000 innocent pilgrims and the destruction of the Akal Takht. From this legitimate description of events, one would hope that the Indian government had a justifiable reason to attack a place of worship with such ferocious methods. Unfortunately the White Paper report produced to justify the army attack on the Golden Temple and mass slaughter of innocent worshipers concluded that Indira Gandhi had no choice but to order the attack to capture 30 militants inside for whom they had arrest warrants. However this justification is proven to be baseless when we consider the facts below: 1/ Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale, the army’s main target had been arrested and was in government custody months before the attack. How can the attack be warranted on the grounds that the government had to arrest Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale when he was already in their custody month before, and was released by the Indian Government without any charges? 2/ Further more Jarnail Singh and the 29 other so called militants the government uses as an excuse for the attack did not remain in the Temple complex 24 hours a day, but freely traveled Punjab and the surrounding areas on a daily basis. If these people needed to be captured why did the army with all its weapons of destruction ent er the Golden Temple killing worshippers caught in the cross fire, when they could have easily assassinated or arrested these people at any time outside the Temple complex? 3/ The SGCP management of the Golden Temple desperately asked the government on a number of occasions to produce a list of people they wanted to capture so that the management could take action and prevent any army intervention. However the Indian authorities refused and failed to do this despite it being an option to prevent an assault. Why? 4/ In April 1984 a few weeks before the attack, the Indian Government sent Professor Mehar-Chan Bharadwaj and another MP along with other government investigators into the Golden Temple. On return Professor Mehar-Chan Bharadwaj reported to the Indian Parliament that “there are no terrorists in the Golden Temple”, and warned against attacking the holy shrine. Why did the government blatantly ignore its own officials and disregard their own inquiry and attack the Golden Temple? 5/ Recently the Israeli army waited for over a month using diplomacy and negotiations to get over 200 fully armed Palestinian Militants peacefully out of the Church of Nativity. Why was no such diplomacy used by the Indian Government to secure a peaceful resolve to the stand off, considering thousands of innocent men, woman and children were caught inside the complex? The Indian army only followed a halfhearted attempt to negotiate a peaceful settlement for a few hours and begun the assault with scores of heavy artillery shells being blasted into the holy shrine. This raises serious concerns, when we consider how other Governments have dealt with such situations. The Indian Government was hell-bent on the attack and preferred a conflict rather than diplomacy. 6/ If the government was forced with its back against the wall to storm the holiest of Sikh shrines in order to capture 30 militants, why had it been preparing for the attack for over a year before? Retired Lt-General S.K Sinha a directly involved a nd high-ranking army leader of the time reported in the Spokesman newspaper (Jun 1984, p28-29), “The army action was not a last resort as Prime Minister Indira Gandhi would have us believe. It had been in her mind for more than 18 months. The army had begun rehearsals of a commando attack near Chakrata Cantonment in the Doon Valley, where a complete replica of the Golden Temple complex had been built”. How can the violent military strike be defensible on the grounds that militants were present in the Temple, when all the facts even from high-ranking Indian Army officials show how an attack was being planned since 1982? At this moment in time Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale or other so called militants were not even inside the complex. It must also be stressed that while suppressing unbiased foreign Journalists or Human rights groups like Amnesty International from investigating Operation Blue Star the Government of India unleashed a river of false propaganda and lies that the militants inside had a formidable arsenal of weaponry. Without any independent proof of these assertions apart from the Governments desperate claims to justify the attack, such allegations cannot be taken seriously. However accurate evidence exists of the army itself planting weapons to make it appear that the Sikhs had heavy and modern weapons: “Before the President of India visited the Golden Temple the army brought a truck loaded with weapons into the complex so that it would give the impression that the militants had so many foreign weapons” H.S Bhanwar (Diary De Panne p66). 7/ If the attack was to break the back of militancy in Punjab, why did the Indian army commence a full scale military attack with heavy artillery and tanks on a Sikh religious festival day, when thousands of pilgrims were attending the Temple from across the World to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of the 5th Sikh Guru. If ones intent was to arrest only 30 militants, it was illogical to storm the Temple when it was packed out with innocent wors hippers who were ultimately killed and wounded in the cross fire. 8/ Why did the Indian Government who calls itself the “Worlds largest democracy” implement a complete media blackout across the Punjab to coincide with the attack? All national and international reporters were thrown out of Punjab and prevented from reporting the truth about the attack. Only a hand full of Indian Government Journalists were allowed into the complex to produce propaganda and fabrications about the attack, and downplay the huge loss of life and destruction caused. Why would a Government with nothing to hide ban unbiased international reporters from reporting news concerning a major army operation? The truth is that the army attack was a massacre of civilian worshipers in cold blood, which the Indian Government did not want the World to know about. The cold-blooded genocide of men, woman and children in the Temple is expressed in the independent reports below: A doctor drafted in by the army to conduct examinations, reported how “Sikhs had been shot at point blank range with their hands tied behind their backs with their turbans. It was a virtual massacre with a large number of woman, children and pilgrims being gunned down” The Guardian, 14th June 1984. “On Sunday, Medical workers in Amritsar said Soldiers had threatened to shoot them if they gave food or water to dying Sikh pilgrims wounded in the assault lying in the hospital” Christian Science Monitor, 8th June 1984. “On 4th June, when thousands of Sikhs had gathered at the Golden Temple, army tanks moved into the Temple complex, smashing into the sanctum and shooting everyone in sight. Many wounded were left to bleed to death and when they begged for water soldiers told them to drink the mixture of blood and urine on the floor.” (Amrit Wilson, New Statesman. 16th Nov 1984). 9/ Numerous credible eye witness accounts of the attack hold testimony that after the army had killed those they were supposedly after, they turned their attention on innoce nt pilgrims, lining them up against the Temple walls and shooting them in cold blood. If the army action was to capture or kill militants in the Temple why did the army kill so many innocent people after they had secured the Temple Complex? 10/ The Sikh reference library was purposely ransacked and deliberately set on fire by the army. Army soldiers carried irreplaceable Sikh literature and items invaluable to the Sikh religion away in trucks. Archives of documents from every period of Sikh history and artifacts from the lives of the Guru’s were stolen or burnt by army troops. Recently the Indian Minster for Defense expressed how these items will be returned to the Sikh’s but why were they taken from the Golden Temple in the first place if the attack was not against the Sikh religion but against militants harboring inside. Twenty years on and these artifacts still have not been returned. Why has the Indian government stolen such items invaluable to the Sikh religion if the attack was only supposed to capture 30 militants, and why even to this day have they not been returned? The above questions require answering and prove how Operation Blue Star was in fact an inevitable attack on the Sikh people. Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale was used as an excuse to justify a wide scale clamp down on Sikhs and carry out human rights abuses across Punjab. This policy has left over 250,000 Sikhs murdered in the last 20 years. The world renown academic Joyce Pettigrew has detailed how the events unfolded pre and post Operation Blue Star. She described the assault as “not on a political figure or movement but to suppress a religion (Sikhs), to attack their heart, to strike a blow at their spirit and self confidence”.
  5. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Don't the official numbers yet, but I'd say there were between 13,000-15,000 people at the march. It was so boosting to see so many chardi kala naujawan. We now need to keep this momentum going. I hope it does not stop here..... The Chaupai Sahib recitation outside the embassy was the highlight. The sound generated was just amazing.
  6. Yes. Just over 1 month ago. I am old. Too old. Wish I did it earlier. My age is..... 31.......Told you I am old.... If you are thinking of taking Amrit then don't hold back... It's never too early....Don't make the mistakes I made...... Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

  9. Are there any Sikh charities that do aid work? Would really be interested in knowing about this. Do any youth groups go and do sewa for the poor in the 3rd world or disaster areas? I would like to get involved. I know Hindu groups like Swami Narayan & Hare Krishnas in the UK do this. Otherwise, it's time to set a charity group up. I am sure we have enough chardi kala Singhs/Singhnees who will volunteer.
  10. Well Rochak, what can we say to that.... You hit the nail on the head. So much waking up to be done!!! There's still too many of us sleeping........
  11. True. I too reckon the answer is a Khalsa satellite TV channel. We have the material all ready. We have hours and hours of pre recorded Gurbani, Kathas, Sakhis. We have so much to show through this medium. And it will give us so much exposure. Channels like Alpha etc, Zee TV do not really do us full justice. Except for the Gurbani from Harmindar Sahib, there is nothing elses pro Sikhi they show. They make no effort to show anything special on Gurpurb, but have an Easter special for the Punjabi/Indian Christians.
  12. It is very worrying, especially regarding the way the parchar is done. I suppose it's just like Radoasoamis, Darshan Dasis, Nirankaris etc. They also take advantage of having the appearance of Sikhs.
  13. Does anyone know more about this? As ever the UK media love these kind of stories. Notice how the headline reads a 'leading member of the Sikh community'. How do we let people like this be given the label of community leader? How active was this guy in the Sikh Sangat? Was he a GurSikh? http://www.wellingboroughtoday.co.uk/ViewA...rticleID=797799 Community leader in drugs smuggling bid A leading member of the Sikh community has admitted trying to smuggle more than £1,200 of heroin and cannabis to inmates at Wellingborough Prison. Gurcharn Singh, 55, was arrested when prison officers launched a crackdown in August on staff and ministers visiting people in the Category C training prison. He pleaded guilty at Northampton Crown Court yesterday to three drug dealing charges and was ordered to surrender his passport as part of his bail conditions. Singh visited members of his community once a week because he had been appointed by the Sikh Missionary Society to administer to followers as an elder of three temples in Bedfordshire. Singh, of Kempston, near Bedford, was found to have almost £900 of heroin and both resin and grass cannabis but initially denied any knowledge of the drugs, claiming he did not know what he was taking inside. He had been due to stand trial yesterday, having pleaded not guilty in April, but changed his pleas at the last minute to admit three offences of possession with intent to supply on August 19. Michael Joyce, prosecuting, said Singh was subjected to a spot-check search which uneart hed 4.4 grams of heroin and about 22 grams of cannabis. This was worth about £1,250 by prison prices. He had acted as a mobile shop, Mr Joyce said, for Sikh prisoners and when arrested the guards also found a mobile phone, top-up cards and a charger, along with two bottles of aftershave. Judge Richard Bray adjourned the case for reports but warned a prison sentence was likely. He said: "Sadly, this is a serious matter so there is no indication what the eventual sentence might be." The judge released Singh on bail with conditions of residence and co-operation with preparation of reports and ordered him to surrender his passport to Greyfriars Police Station in Bedford within 48 hours. Rupert Mayo, defending, said Singh had been given an airmail letter to take into the prison, unaware it contained drugs. Sentencing will take place in July. 27 May 2004
  14. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! No religion is the same there are a lot of contradicitons between each. From reincarnation to drinking wine. Meat eating, smoking, cutting of hair are all conflictions between different religions. As a Sikh I believe in what my Guru is telling me and aim to follow the path that is clearly shown to me. As a Sikh you need to have a 110% confidence in Guruji. Gurbani discusses Sackhand and tells us a the way to get to Sachkhand. Whether it conflicts with the Islamic or Christian way or any other religion is of no concern to us. We just focus on our path.
  15. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! I'm so proud to see all these Bibya in dastars, believe me there's probably more in these pictures than in the whole of East London. Just a bit unsure but it appears some of these bibya are plucking their eyebrows. Maybe it's me, but I was once 'Mr Vain' and I am pretty sure I know shaped eyebrows. Either that or some of them are blessed with perfect symmetrical eyebrows. Don't wish to be judgemental, but then is this not the same as a man with a trimmed dhari and dastar? Otherwise, it's great to see all the sewa being done by the bibya......
  16. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! This is a really interesting topic. I have been wondering about this myself. It's ironic how when someone dies they are talked about as a Gurmukh, regardless about how their lives were lead. I suppose this is probably done as a sensitve gesture to the family of the deceased. A real GurMukh will know themselves that they have made it to Sachkhand. They will know their day and time of depature to Sachkhand. I suppose in reality it's of no concern to anyone else apart from that individual, so in that respect saying "Sachkhand nivasi...." at someones funeral is a waste of time. I read something in 'Society of Saints' written by Sant Jagjit Singh Herkowalwalay about around the departure of Sant Jwala Singh. Need to re-read that section and I will post what was written as I remember it was quite interesting and relevant to this discussion. Look forward to some good responses on this topic.
  17. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Don't worry. I know of plenty of Sangat going, their just not replying to this thread. I'll be there with the kids. Look out for me I'll be the Singh changing the baby nappies (diapers to the yanks). Make sure you all bring the family too.
  18. Please see below. This guy's obviously trying to be cheeky. I am not sure where he's coming from. We need to get together and post some 'good clear' responses to his question. http://www.akj.org/phorum/read.ppa?f=3&i=17306&t=17306 Calm this shockwave now or there will be a rift Author: Subversive Date: 05-25-04 23:39 Sat Sri Akaal. I have a few questions for those of you here who believe that they know enough. I have heard alot of people here talk "CR#P" about other people, not realising that they are way out of line. Questions. 1. Who is the Guru of the Sikhs? 2. The Khalsa is not mentioned in the SGGS, why? 3. Where is it mentioned in the SGGS that you need the 5ks to "get to GOD". 4. Some say that the Khalsa was a hukam from GOD to Guru Gobing Singh for 1699 only. 5. Where does it say that you need your hair to get to GOD? 6. If the Khalsa is not mentioned in the SGGS, then where did the saying "Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh". 7. I got you guys thinking now. Remember, these guys even disregard Bhai Gurdas, as saying, he is not the Guru, and nowhere does Guru Ji give him any influence over the Sikhs. I have heard and seen alot of posts on the net, in the last 5 years, some people who say that Satnaam is the name of GOD and not Waheguru. Simply because is it not mentioned in the SGGS (It is mentioned, but only as a prasie to the Guru). Now with all you people going on about how to "live" as a Sikh, mans here are planning a s hockwave. So far I have not met anyone who can give me answers to these questions. So, anyone care to answer. Clear and concise answers will do all of us good, not hearsay or "oh its written there because the tooth fairy told me". Proof and valid references are the way to go. These guys use just SGGS material and they are convincing. I am waiting. Subversive
  19. Bhagat Singh was not much of a GurSikh whilst fighing for Indian independence anyway. He renounced his Sikhi before he even cut his Kes. As per Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh's autobgraphy, he was in regret as he got closer to his death and we know he grew his Kes before he was hung. However, India want to see him as the mona. He did not give his head to the Guru, but gave his head to India. There's a massive difference, based on that the picture probably justifies his cause.
  20. This is my observation only, hence it's a bit far fetched.... There are 2 Groups of Amritdhari Sikhs in the UK Group 1 are the real hardcore rehatdharis. They will not give into anything and will practice their Sikhi to the max. They seem to be younger. Group 2 are more relaxed. They do not want to cause a fuss and will remove their kakaars if requested. They believe that we should compromise as we are aliens in this nation. They tend to be a lot older. Unfortunately, at the moment it is the Group 2 individuals who seem to be involved in the decision making discussions in the UK from Gurdwaras to Government issues. I think this is due to age and they are more favoured due to their flexibility. Sikhs have been in the UK for over 50 years, we are on our 3rd generation, we have set up successful businesses, have Sikh mayors, judges and are the 3rd or 4th biggest religion in the UK. Yet we still cannot get round the issues of wearing a Kirpan. How do our so called representatives end up agreeing to wooden Kirpan replicas or Kirpan brooches as a compromise?
  21. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! As far as I now under the Biritish law we are allowed to wear Kirpans and cannot be discriminated against or be asked to remove our Sri Sahibs. However in practice, Singhs/Singhnees in the UK asked to remove their Sri Sahibs or leave. I know of my friends father who was told to leave Thorpe Park (UK equivalent of Disneyland) because someone complained about his Kirpan. The UK passport office will not let you into their builidings unless you remove your Kirpans and then there are restaurants/hotels which operate their own door policy. To be honest, I don't think I have heard of any high profile case in the UK regarding Kirpans, there have been cases in employment law where Kirpans have been eventually allowed (BT is one of them and I think there's some on going issues at the UK Airports regarding the length of Kirpans) Maybe Fauja Singh Ji is better off not going to the olympic dinner where there will be alochol and meat. I'd say it's meant to be. Even if he did go, he probably wouldn't be able to eat anything.
  22. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Please keep the London Sangat posted Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!. Thanks
