  5. welcome to the forum , well depends on how religous he was, Sikhs are taught to meditate and connect to God while alive and also that the soul is eternal and will never die basically Sikhs dont believe in a matirial heaven or hell the reason being that if matirial things dont make one happy in this life how would they in the afterlife to a Sikh hell is living a life separated from God and heaven is living a life in service to God and humanity but when a Sikh dies it is proper to wish the widower that her husband find his eternal place in the arms of God and a card would be sweet maybe just let her know ur there oh and by the way i think its super sweet that you took the effort to come on this forum and find out in order to help another person its a wonderful gesture and judging by it u must be a very sympathetic person of a good heart which is hard to find these days. many blessings always

  8. gurufateh g to the origonal poster this quote is out of context read a little further later in bani it says kabeer why do you shave your head when you havent shaved your mind it is useless to shave your head when whatever is done is done by the mind also do u know better thn God is that ego ? where this ego is the naam can not exist, every hair on your body was put their by God how can u love Guru ji when u dont love his saroop ? also the line you posted read prof sahib singh jis arth of it ( i cant copy paste here for sum reason) this means that as long as you havent left duality thn u can not find the lord nomatter what type of bhekh or religous dress/ form u wear brother jee please understand the road to God will have u keep ur kesh its natural u will not find anand because for anand u have to stop caring what the world thinks and surrender to God completely , if u cut ur hair for others or even for yourself thn u have not obtained aap gavaiye seva karai (lose urself in seva n true seva is Gods hukam) , how can u ever find emergence with God this way when ur ego causes you to cut ur hair? at the end of the day gurbani says haumai nawai nal viroodh hai due na vasai ik thaiye ego is enemy of the naam they both cant exist in one place (body/soul) if u feed ur ego by cutting ur hair and u follow ur sianap n noty Gods hukam than ego will live in you not the naam and if u surrender to God and (evn though u show compassion love for all) u give up living to please the world than your ego will die and the naam will live in you but only one can live in u ego or naam the choice is yours

  11. Sikhs and Thanksgiving On Thanksgiving day Americans celebrate compassion , to be more specificic the compassion of the native Americans towards the pilgrims. The pilgrims were weary and tired. They came to america in search of religous freedom, freedom which was being opreesed by the church of england. Soon, It was time for a hard cold winter and families worried about food and supplies. The native Americans of the time saw the worried families and decided to reach out. One must remember that during this time american settlers seemed scary to the tribes of native americans and visa versa. They had differences in religons , rituals, coustoms, family dynamics as well as skin colors. Even still these differences were crossed as the pilgrims and native americans shared a meal. Today we feast on thanksgiving as a day to give thanks to God and to the native americans, as well as celebrate compassion for all of human kind. The whole world knows about the sacrifice of food and supplies made by the native americans selflessly, but sadly very few know about an even bigger and grander sacrifice, one that the whole universe should celebrate ! A sacrfice of ones life for the sake of mankind. The martydom of Guru Teg Bhadur Jee . A martrydom that the whole universe should give thanks for, a martydom that fillls the hearts of Sikhs with gushing waves of pride and faith stronger than the mountains , one unparrelled in history! . Guru Teg Bhadur ji was born the same year that the first thanksgiving was celebrated (in 1621) and his martydom falls on the same day .It is the ultimate example of what thanksgiving is all about . Great Sikh scholars say that their are three kinds of deaths . The first kind of death is death of the body and this is a death we will all one day face. The other is a type of death where the body is alive and well, the mind is alive and well, but the poor soul is withered and dead, unhappy without Gods love. This is a death most face. The third type of death is rare and it is only faced by those who are the most blessed of the blessed. This death is the death of desire , death of the minds stuborness and this is when one dies spiritually in the love of God. It is the death of the identity , when one loves God so much that they lose themselves and their selfishness in this love , in the service of humaity. Sometimes losing your self in God can manifest physically as well. It was Guru Teg Bhadur jees endless love of God and humaity which caused his physical death. Physically, Guru sahibs death was a death that gave this world life. It was a death which gave birth to human rights, and universal brotherhood, and it was a death that killed as well, a death that gave death to the opression and tyranny in india. It was a death that still inspires us today and a death which will give inspiritation for generations to come and will continue to inspire Gursikhs to change the world and stand tall. It was a death that still lives today hundreds of years later, a death that will continue to live and give life forever! During the time of Guru Teg Bhadur jee india was in shambles . The government opressed the rights of all people. The knew emporor Arungjed claimed to be a muslim although his actions were those of a heathen, one whose heart was so merciless that he did not deserve to be called a man of any religon. Much like today tyrants such as him fill the world commiting atrocities in the name of religon. Sometimes it is a crucade, other times a holocaust, other times a genocide or sometimes racial profiling that winds people up in torturous prisons. People who commit such acts may claim to do them in the name of relgion and God but in reality such people are the furthest from either. Arungzeb also said that he would not allow any religon besides Islam (and that too his corrupted version of Islam ) to exist. Day by day the armies of Arungzeb would destroy hindu mandirs, and rape young girls so they would be forced to marry and in consequence convert to Islam. A consequence of this was that Hindus would pretend to be muslims on the outside and worship secretly in thir homes. The muslims did not even spare other muslims for example the sufi muslims who loved to musically singh God's praises. They were executed as well. Arungzeb came he said music was not allowed in Islam. He killed all those who disobeyed him. He listed all the musical melodies and said these shall never be sung. Music was banned. Guru Teg Bhadur Jee saw this and said we must stand for our rights and the rights of those who are being opressed. It has always been belived in Sikhism that a true person of God should not be a hermit, but has a responsibility to ensure that goodness survives in the world. In the case of Sikhs they made sure truth survived even if they did not. Seeing the brutal rapes and murders and the commen people living in fear, Guru Sahib had to show this blood thirsty tyrant that those who have the shelter of God can not be stricken by fear.God is the true king. One example of Guru Sahibs fearlessness was that when Every musical measure had been banned by Arungzeb, Guru Sahib decided to make a new one, called Raag Jai Jaivantee and this raag is used today when a hero comes home after a great victory. This was just one example of Guru Sahibs fearlessness. Another example was when some kasmiri pandits (Priests of Hinduism) came to the Guru in despair. They complained that they were being tortured to change their religon and could not live in peace. Guru Teg Bhadur assured them that they were in safe hands because the Sikhs , the servents of God, those saints who were the very image of God, those all loving Sikhs who recognized the light of God in each being and believed that service to creation ,love of creation, was the greatest worship, they would not sit by and let these pandits or anyone face such atrocities. These words were very bold and they filled the pandits hearts with hope. They knew they were safe. At this time Guru Teg Bhadurs son was nine years old. He was a great soul filled with the light of God and the spirit of righousness . He was the saint of all saints and the warrior of all warriors; Guru Gobind Singh Jee. He told his father that he must go and defend those who came for shelter because a Sikh must never turn their back on the meek . Guru Gobind Singh knew the risks of going to this tyrant and standing tall against him but still he knew as well that one who falls at Gods feet has the power to rise against any force in this. After Guru Gobind Singh Ji said these words Guru Teg Bhadur left for Dehli. When he got to the emporers palace Arungzeb was appalled that Guru Teg Bhadur had the "audacity" to stand up. During this time seeing the bravery of Guru Teg Bhadur a new spirit had possed the people of India to stand up for their rights and not be victimized. This scared Arungzeb to death and he knew something must be done. His idea was to convert Guru Teg Bhadur Jee and the Sikhs who were with him. If he was able to do this all of Guru jis followers would be disheartned and they too might convert and give up fighting against Arungzebs brutalities. Then India would weaken under the control of this ruthless tyrant. The first thing Arungzeb tried to do was bribe Guru Teg Bhadur with wordly riches. He tried to bribe him with money and property and all Guru ji had to do was convert to Islam. Guru Teg Bhadur Jee refused and Arungzeb was shocked. Than Arungzeb threatened Guru Ji with death. Again Guru Sahib refused to convert to Islam. Here one must remember that this was not an issue of religons as Guru Sahib teaches us that religons are man made and it is love and actions full of love for creation that make our souls merge with God. When the body dies and turns to dust than who will be able to tell the difference between a muslim soul or hindu soul? The issue at hand was alot deeper. The issue was human rights , the issue was that a Saint of God should never remain silent in the face of injustice. This too is seva, this too is service to humanity, this is contributing to a world where humans can live fearlessly. Seva is not only feeding the hungry, or joray de seva it has many forms. Here Guru Sahib gave a new meaning to the words aap gavaiye seva karai. Soon Arungzeb asked Guru Ji to pick one of three actions. Either he was to convert to Islam , show a miracle , or face death. Guru Sahib would never convert to Islam nor did he need to show magic tricks because these are below true saints. The true miracle was deafeating death, the fear that scares the world. Today people will pay thousands for medicine and surgery to prolong life for a few years but blessed are those who merge with God while in this body and become immortal . The soul never dies. Such was the greatness of Guru Sahib. In order to scare Guru ji and show that he was serious Arungzeb tortured him and kept him in a cage. Infront of Guru Sahibs eyes his beloved companion and Sikh Bhai Mati Das was tortured and asked to embrace Islam. He was promised heaven with pretty women and rivers of wine. Bhai Mati Das said thousands of heavens could not equal the bliss he felt in Gods love and he would not leave God and the path of compassion even if he was cut to pieces. Bhai Mati Das proved these words when he was sawed in half and Japji Sahib continued out of his pure pavitar mouth. His last wish was to face his Guru as he showed the world how to save rightousness. After this his brother, another beloved Sikh Bhai Sati Das Ji was wrapped in cotton and set on fire and killed but he too did not yeild. The third Sikh Bhai Dayala Ji was boiled alive. None of them yeilded all were shocked. At last it was time for Guru Teg Bhadur Ji to be beheaded . Arungzeb planned to hang his remains in the town square. Guru Sahib left with a smile in his face. All were inspired. A beloved Sikh and his father wished to creamate Guru Sahib. The Sikh was Bhai Jetha Ji. He risked his life and prayed. God listened. As soon as Guru Teg Bhadur Ji was executed , there was a storm which gave Bhai Jetha ji an oppurtunity to grab Guru Jees body and creamate it. After seeing this the people were convinced that the days of Arungzeb's tyrannical rule were numbered. They were right. Soon enough the Sikhs founght and were able to pull this corrupt government out by the roots . Today, lost in greed, we have forgotten the brave exalted status our Guru gave us. We have gone from being fearless in the face of dictators to being slaves. Not only have we nit been able to give rights to others but we too have not been able to secure ours. We are separate from Gurbani and we have been plagued by the fear of death. For that reason we are victimized. There is still hope. We must remember our history and be proud. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time. The way that Guru Sahib changed the face of Diwali into a bigger bandi chor and the face of Vaisakhi (the harvest day) into the unparrelled Khalsa Sajna Diwas, Thanksgiving too has another meaning to Sikhs. Share the sacrifice of Guru Teg Bhadur ji with your families, with our children and with the world. Teach how we too like Guru ji must cross all limits of caste and creed to serve others. Do some seva for the world. Take inspiration today and always. Stand against injustices you see now. Join orginizations like Sikhs for Justice and Akal Purakh Ki fauj and countless groups which work to stand for our rights . While for a Sikh everyday is a day to give thanks, I know when I am asked what I am thankful for, my answer is I am thankful to be walking on the path of Guru Teg Bhadur Ji. I am thankful that my Guru gave me fearlessness and gave me a purpose of life. I am thankful for Guru Teg Bhadur Ji, who helps me each moment, whose soul is alive in Gurbani and whose body I am a part of, the body of the khalsa panth. The sacrifices made by our ansectors are the very roop and the very image of thanksgiving. I am thankful To the sacrifice made by Guru Gobind Singh , Guru Teg Bhadur, Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai dayala ji and most of all I am thankful for the blessed oppurtunity to bow my head and the feet of such heroes over and over and over.
  12. dont wear a rubber cap g see if u can have ur mom teach u how to do it and practice bring an extra patka (if u like keep one patka just for swimming) if nothing else learn how to tie a regular simple style bandana like patka as a last resort but the best option would be try to learn a regular patka or even better a dumala
  13. gurufateh g i dont think Khalsataan is that difficult Sikhs need one thing and that is the Guru that is the main problem nothing has changed since the times of Guru Arjun Dev ji punjab has never had a shortage of sants and yogis and babas so y did the gov saheeded Guru Arjun Dev Ji? the reason for this is that they were threated because Guru Sahib spoke the truth and made people fearless of death and defreders of dharam the gov was afraid of Gurbani because truth is like the sun everyone loves the sun because it shows people whats goin on but chor (theives) dont like the sun because it makes their crimes visable the same way Gurbani is a sun it makes people transcend life and death and has every shakti Guru Nanak Dev Jis jot , the true form of the Guru is Gurbani and when a person merges with the shabad they become the image of the Guru nanak gur te gur hoia mahraj sed khalsa is the bani gurbani is the soul and when the body merges with the soul banda rabbi roop ho janda gurbani in the kaljug has the power with the beautiful messege to kill ones mind and make it dig inside so the soul which is Gods form comes out so the dehli government has the same problem today that they had duuring guru sahibs time they are scared of the messege of bani so the soulution fake babay fight over small things make people treat guru sahib as a murti bring mindless rituals and bharam in the kaum and get the god centered minds trapped in the fold of maya think about it God holds everything in his hand guru gobind singh would say guru bees biswai sangat ikees biswai if i count for 20 my sangat counts for 21 but remember the sangat is gursagat so with out the guru if guru is worth 20 n sangat 21 than 21-20 is just one so we need our guru nothing else at all sikhs have ripped out the roots of the julam sarkar b4 and we can do it again we just need to be sikhs but what are we our bibia are doing eyebrows wearing earings and slandering the daughters of others while our men are stuck in ego our thinking is mine mine mine intead of panth panth panth ppl ask y youth r straying from sikhi maybe if they were shown love instead of ego n we r better thn u attitude maybe if they were understood n shown the path instead of made fun of by elders who want to see another prsns kid fail maybe if we considered the panth our family ....... may b than if we can merge with the guru and our hearts can become vishaal again .........that is when khalastan will b easier than taking candy from a baby
  14. 1. What will you do? My first step would be to find a cabinet of chardikala gursikhs with full knowlege who must at least know the nitnem banis kant as well as the meanings of all the banis and must be touched with the message. My second step would be to gather a meeting of sarbatt khalsa and sent up jathas in every country so that there will always be communication on Sikh issues and we can unite easily. From these jathas build parcharaks in the old days sikhs used to live togather and for that reason we were united now Sikhs have forgotten the meaning of Khalsa and erveryone lives there own life. For example if a women sees a girl at the gurudwara she will think it is someone elses daughter. I want to clash this independent thinking and make it one panth where all our brothers and sisters. no more chugli and nindak . A sikh is a sikh n their alllegiance shud b to sikhi first. Guru sahin never cared about quantity only quality. So here is how the jathas would run - Money is put togather those who dont work do seva for the jatha - Children are taught togather the values of Sikhi - In these communities is a large gurudwara and parcharakhs which speak the language of the people in the place they are located - a gurudwara centers the community and is the place where all will recive meals etc and engage in seva learning and charity - these communites will be great centers for parupkareee and will work to do all sorts of seva for all people crossing all borders and always defend justice The reason behind this is that sikhism has always been about giving ones head to guru jis dharma to the naam. So this is to weed out those who truly want to follow the path and those who just want to goof around because if we don't we will never become strong In the past sikhs were always united and this will be true sangat because for the most part only those who truly love sikhi would be able to live in such a place where salaries are merged life runs on seva and the only misson is spreading goodness to humanity. Those people who are still stuck in dualty n rituals or who are more punjabi would not be attracted to such a lifestyle but those who are merged in simran and seva would and this type of simple life wiolll help kill ego and sangat sangat everywhere. Think about it , if u have ur community how easier is it for youth to stay on the right path, for women to wear keskis n keep kesh, for men to wear turbans, to combat the vikaars so for this reason i would issue hukamnamas that as much as possible sikhs stay in groups of jathas togather so they could support each other on the inside and support the world on the outside. I would make a rule that a Sikh is defined alone by rehit and love of Guru Sahib. I would get rid of association with jatha but not practices. for example a Sikh can follow whichever rehit they please , respect all mahapurakhs like sant ji and bhai randhir singh and baba nand ji and all these would come under one khalsa but no-one would have the right to call themselves taksali or akj instead. All Sikhs will respect and believe in the taksal for matters of studying gurbani and the best scholars versed in all great Gurubani teekas from our past and all history books will teach a curriculum and the Taksal will be responsible for all parchar. The nihung dal will be responsible for seva and for insuring that we are always ready to stand for dharam in the form of selfless service or jung. There will always be samagams and always all rehits will be tolerated and loved. in a family brothers and sisters disagree but we are all children of one parent. the khalsa too is the same. Stop bowing down at the feet of Badal and congress and all governments. Get rid of the shameful indian gov provided security guards, come on the jathedhar of akal thakat using security. Use the tons of money I have to do seva and parchar and Make the sgpc schools affordable and corruption free and have free tuition centers as well as the best most elite free hospitals in all Gurudwaras ( this is because education is a must for punjabs yputh and must schools are corrupt and unaffordable and the healthcare in india is a mess) education is the key for Sikhi to exel in the world. Have after school programs in every village. Allow bibia full freedom to do kirtan Have Prof Sahib Singh Jis teeka fully in english as well as other dharamic texts Pass a hukamnama to stop the printing of Birs of Guru Granth Sahib ( Gurbani will still be available to all in electronic format and/ or at Gurdwaras) if there is museebat like a Sikh lives far away than each case will be revieved but limit where copies of Guru Sahib are (in order to stop beadbei) Make shelters seperate from Gurdwaras (so those who are intoxicated have a temporary support where they can turn around) Make a test for parcharaks as well as higher their pay make sure they are on the same page and ritual free (if they are bowing to statues and wearign red threads what will they preach to sangat?) Self rule - since when did sikhs start siding with julum sarkars? never from the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. We Sikhs are still the khalsa of the jot of Guru Nanak which is in gurbani. and the body of that jot is the khalsa forever and ever. In the old days we sikhs never gave taxes because the government was corrupt we were fearless and united. That is why we grew. Now we are scared and that is y we have lost power plain n simple. We chase after maya n fear death and dont connect with God. Those sikhs were jeeven mukath who cud kill them? We too must reach that state cause even if we dont have land yet who cares this earth belongs to waheguru this earth belongs to dharam and we are the defenders of true daya and dharam. Wherever we are we will never bow down. It is sad that guru sahib made akal thakat to be stronger than dehli thakat but we have bowed. Never anymore. 2. What major positive or negative changes you will plan to bring? Well i would make keski for females as well but not a kakaar tho. meaning it is required as much as it is for males because in my expirience i never felt more belonging to the guru thn i did the first day i wore a keski it is important for equality as well and will take our mothers away from the spirit of rituals and fasts to the spirit of being singhnees. well most of my changes are up there in number one the communities ect but i would make sure all sikhs had acsess to the best shastar as well and free kakaars always as this is a problem for indias poor i would run a free airline for sikhs ( the sgpc is rich enough) with flights going to amritsar always and if thats hard than a navy fleet where all could always come and do darshan anytime and once again the panth would be togather. these flights would be kirpaan accessible. 3. What will be your 4 major policies or your signature ideas Bringing the spirit on fearlessness n naam back into our panth as well as self sovereignty. Sikhs living in jathas all across the world and these jathas being run uniformly. Making sure the panth is united and communication limes are always open. Providing all basic needs (schools food hospitals healthcare) to all people (all of humanity ) in each gurudwara and lots los of parupkaar. 4. What changes will you prefer or plan to bring in SGPC? Use the budget for education and parupkaree and the airline and giving Sikhs Kakaars etc. Require a test be given and those who occupy the seats be adept in path, meanings Sikh history and philosophy. Make a test for those who vote as well because they too must be well informed in order to make the right choice. Right to vote will be a privilige only for those who are involved and know enough to make a wise choice. Jathas we have before in each one one leader will be apointed and two representatives who will fly to Amritsar each year and we will have a congress of them so that the needs of all sikhs are heard and addressed. Note the vote test will be open to the world because Khalsa isnt only in punjab anyone who passes the test will earn the right to vote period 5. Create your own question and answer it by yourself !! i will in a lil bit. gurufateh g rewrote mine
  15. 1. What will you do? (try to avoid making dictatorship or violent decisions - such as remove him or her, ban this or that). 1) My first step would be to find a cabinet of chardikala gursikhs with full knowlege who must at least know the nitnem banis kant as well as the meanings of all the banis and must be touched with the messege 2) My second step would be to gather a meeting of sarbatt khalsa and sent up jathas in every country so that there will always be communication on Sikh issues and we can unite easily 3) From these jathas build parcharaks in the old days sikhs used to live togather and for that reason we were united now Sikhs have forgotten the meaning of Khalsa and erveryone lives there own life. I would get rid of association with jatha but not practices. for example a Sikh can follow whichever rehit they please , respect all mahapurakhs like sant ji and bhai randhir singh and baba nand ji and all these would come under one khalsa but noone would have the right to call themselves taksali or akj instead all sikhs will respect and believe in the taksal for matters of studying gurbani and the best scholars versed in all great gurubani teekas from our past and all history books will teach a curriculum and the taksal will be responsible for all parchar the nihung dal will be responsible for seva and for insuring that we are always ready to stand for dharam in the form of selfless service or jung there will always be samagams and always all rehits will be tolerated and loved. in a family brothers and sisters disagree but we are all children of one parent. the khalsa too is the same . 5) Stop bowing down at the feet of badal and congress and all govenrnmen - get rid of the shameful indian gov provided security guards , come on the jathedhar of akal thakat using security B) Use the tons of money I have to do seva and parchar and 6) Make the sgpc schools affordable and corruption free and have free tuition centers as well as the best most elite free hospitals in all Gurudwaras ( this is because education is a must for punjabs yputh and must schools are corrupt and unaffordable and the healthcare in india is a mess) education is the key for Sikhi to exel in the world 7)have after school programs in every village 8)allow bibia full freedom to do kirtan 9) have Prof Sahib Singh Jis teeka fully in english as well as other dharamic texts 10) Pass a hukamnama to stop the printing of Birs of Guru Granth Sahib ( Gurbani will still be available to all in electronic format and/ or at Gurdwaras) if there is museebat like a Sikh lives far away than each case will be revieved but limit where copies of Guru Sahib are (in order to stop beadbei) 11) Make shelters seperate from Gurdwaras (so those who are intoxicated have a temporary support where they can turn around) 12) Make a test for parcharaks as well as higher their pay make sure they are on the same page and ritual free (if they are bowing to statues and wearign red threads what will they preach to sangat?) 13) Self rule- since when did sikhs start siding with julum sarkars? never from the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. (please be realistic, you can't say: kill him or arrest them) Well i would make keski for females as well but not a kakaar tho. meaning it is required as much as it is for males because in my expirience i never felt more belonging to the guru thn i did the first day i wore a keski it is important for equality as well and will take our mothers away from the spirit of rituals and fasts to the spirit of being singhnees. well most of my changes are up there in number one the communities ect but i would make sure all sikhs had acsess to the best shastar as well and free kakaars always as this is a problem for indias poor i would run a free airline for sikhs ( the sgpc is rich enough) with flights going to amritsar always and if thats hard than a navy fleet where all could always come and do darshan anytime and once again the panth would be togather. these flights would be kirpaan accessible. 3. What will be your 4 major policies or your signature ideas (1st to be highest priority. Example: Obama's signature platform was healthcare and clean energy) 1)bringing the spirit on fearlessness n naam back into our panth as well as self soveignity 2) Sikhs living in jathas all across the world and these jathas being run uniformily 3)making sure the panth is united and communication limes are always open. 4) providing all basic needs (schools food hospitals healthcare) to all people (all of humanity ) in each gurudwara and lots los of parupkaar 4. What changes will you prefer or plan to bring in SGPC? (Some facts: There are 175 members, mostly voted by rural folks. They are official holders of annual 600 crore budget). use the budget for education and parupkaree and the airline and giving sikhs kakaars ect require a test be given and those who occupy the seats be adept in path, meanings sikh history and philosipy make a test for those who vote as well , because they too must be informed inorder to make the right choice, the right to vote will be a privilige only for those who are involved and know enough to make a wise choice and from the jathas we have before in each one one leader will be apointed and two representives who will fly to amritsar each year and we will have a congress of them so that the needs of all sikhs are heard and adressed note the vote test will be open to the world because khalsa isnt only in punjab anyone who passes the test will earn the right to vote period 5. Create your own question and answer it by yourself !! i will in a lil bit
