  1. yes, this unmarried "singh" is not behaving respectabally with a woman he is not married to, in public.
  2. I guess you should abolish ALL social constructs? muslim sikh? yes, that's contradictory. one cannot follow two faiths at the same time. neither islam nor sikhi would allow this. indian sikh, british sikh, american sikh... no, those are not contradictory. india, britain, and america are simply places. american sikh means a sikh from america. it does not indicate any rank or social standing, it's simply a descriptive term. when one attaches the "caste" to the word sikh, it is only to try to show superiority/inferiority, which is contrary to gurmat and so yes, "jatt sikh" is contradictory. i hope you can understand this, if not, feel free to ask questions. -jasleen (american sikh, no caste thank you very much) kaur What about those sikhs that don't follow a faith? Would a muslim follower of Guru Nanak be denied the right to be called a sikh? Did Gurus jis want people to deny their background to become their followers? May I call Mardana and his descendents as muslim sikhs, or is this politicall incorrect? I do not follow the same notion and post-colonial construct of faith and religion as you. So by calling myself jatt sikh, I am projecting myself as superior/inferior please explain how? What if i said by calling yourself american sikh you are projecting yourself as inferior/superior? How about if I called american a caste, do u like that? )))) Do you see native american tribes such as sioux and aztecs as castes, or only north indian tribes such as jatts? Does Guru Ji say it is important for a follower to call him/herself "sikh"? Are the terms disciple/follower/chella/murid/shishya valid?
  3. Basically, its just something people say about their pughs being the "wrong" way round, hence why I put the word "wrong" in speech marks. But still, they are easily recgonisable from their turbans, no? I guess the red dots are added in for extra effect?
  4. lol contradictory, please tell me how? Is the term muslim sikh also contradictory? What about indian sikh, british sikh, american sikh, human sikh, sikh human???
  5. there is a radhaswami GOD?? :6 we also must be careful of those that are in the panth, the groups which cause paranoia against bani!!! Isn;t it ovious to tell from the pughs tied the "wrong" way round? lol What can naamdharis do, they ain;t exactly fanatics? Not like the ones back in british raaj that were violent towards people that killed cows. Naamdharis also seem to have a large following from specific "caste". Until naamdharis start packing AK47s and demanding stuff, I wouldn't be too worried :D
  6. oh dear, are the naamdharis coming to CONVERT us? :o :LOLz: you are associated with Amy Winhouse, is that not anti-panthic? :LOLz: :LOLz:
  7. "the fact that some people who call themselves Sikh do not behave as such does not invalidate Guru ji's institution of Amrit" I agree
  8. I think its ok to call "a group" of nihangs a jatha, but I am not sure about calling either a nihang dal or the whole nihang khalsa fauj a jatha. The reason I don't like jatha in this context it forces them to be seen in the same light as the khalsa type organisations named jatha created during/after the british raaj in india. For sampradaiye, I would say tradition is a more accurate term. And definelty not broke off from the mainstream, because the Buddha Dal and akali nihang singh khalsa was the mainstream khalsa 'Now we are considered distinct, now they [modern Sikh leaders] preach us to be just Nihangs, Nihangs are these, they do not consider us Sikhs, they say we just move about aimlessly, ask have they done any religious service, work etc. When the whole nation was but Nihangs who else was there to serve? All accept the service of the Khalsa nation but all the sacrifices it [the Akali Nihang Khalsa Panth] has made, they [the mainstream S.G.P.C. Sikhs] have written over and attributed to themselves. No! That Khalsa is us. Yes! That Panth that was first of Singhs was of Nihangs. It was this Nihang Panth, which the Maharaj [Guru Gobind Singh] brought into being. He himself dressed as a Nihang. Nihang is he who on the battlefield fights in the vanguard. Nihangs are not a caste nor are they a distinct sect. Look! They [mainstream S.G.P.C. Sikhs] make us out to be a sect that it is a sect of Nihangs. So thus, oh Khalsa, they label us thieves and bandits. In actuality they consider us as a waste of time. But never mind - as someone acts so he reaps. If they act badly towards us, our Singhs will bear it. If they do good we will do good - if not they will reap what they sow.' ('Prachin Panth Parkash Steek' , by Akali Nihang Baba Santa Singh Ji, Pa.118)
  9. "it's part of the panthic rehat maryada." which just backs up my protestant influence claim. ok, it MIGHT be true to a certain extent, but logically I don't believe in it, especially after seeing some of the people that take amrit. Lets say, one of these modern cultureless sikhs say, slept around because they weren't religious, and then they took amrit to be forgiven, would the stis also be forgiven? "amrit also does NOT absolve you of future sins (like christian baptism), so don't start lying to your partner after taking amrit, you'd just be building up your karmic debt again." Yes but according to the logic, some sikhs just retake amrit, no biggy eh
  10. http://www.sikh-uni.ac.uk/index.htm This at world sikh university in harrow
  11. I have red that some nihangs practise ayurvedic medicine, and they can get furlas for akali rank for mastering this. And I am not sure about using the jathebandi term to be used for sampradayie like nirmalas and akali nihang khalsa. They are definetly not "jathas" lol.
  12. hmm there is something that I believe I red in a old rehit(nama?), where it says not to debate with a muslmaan
  13. i don't understand the point of putting sinh? What do you do when a person like a rajput has the surname singh?
  14. no this born again wash away sins mythology is ideology of some jathas, it is similar to christianity born again baptism mentality, and probably entered sikhs from protestant influence during the british raaj. It is upto an individual for what karam they do. You can't just take amrit again and again, you have to change yourself and balance your mind, think good of others, bhakti and simran karo etc... Also, chori, thuggi, yaari, sabh samneh ajaandi ek din.
  15. Didn;t Guru Gobind Singh have a very small sri sahib, the kirpaan they show in Hazoor Sahib?
  16. I have to say though, it is very important to have a teacher to teach and guide you from the Adi Guru Granth Sahib bani.
  17. I don;t think singh doing turna firna kum is good period. Society is going to look at singh douing these things in a bad way. If a singh tried to do this things with a sister daughter froma traditional family like ours, he'd be in a hospital with bandages!!! I would never marry these girls that make bfs and tur-fir like this, therefore I don't really care if they do like clean shaven, even though some of them try and pull sardars like me for their pre-marital stuff, they aren;t even scared of singhs anymore.
  18. to properly understand the vaaran, it actually takes much time.
  19. are you familiar with the term panchayat? yes I am
