As part of the increased security, the cloak room (gathri ghar) has been shifted from the temple complex and bags, pouches and big camera cases have been banned inside the sanctum sanctorum. Police have also deployed extra forces in the vicinity of Golden Temple and sarais. Golden Temple manager Partap Singh told TOI on Tuesday that gathri ghar situated near parikarma was shifted towards Aata Mandi outside the complex, besides other security measure like ban on handbags. Amritsar police commissioner J S Aulakh said that a few days ago, the SGPC manager had received an anonymous threat call, demanding money. "The caller didn't inform how and where the cash was to be delivered," he said. Aulakh said the security deployment around Golden Temple and all the sarais have been strengthened. The management of Golden Temple had also taken several steps to augment the security. Intelligence sources said heavy contingent of policemen and sleuths of intelligence bureau had been deployed around the shrine. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said the ban on handbags inside Golden Temple has been imposed on the basis of certain inputs. Under the circumstances, it becomes imperative to take preventive measures, he said. The management had also installed CCTVs in parikarma. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/City/Chandigarh/Security-tightened-around-Golden-Temple/articleshow/42657873.cms Hindi news media also reported it: http://www.bhaskar.com/news/PUN-AMR-enhanced-security-of-the-golden-temple-4747382-NOR.html http://www.chandigarh.amarujala.com/news/city-news-chd/punjab-amritsar-golden-temple-threat-hindi-news/

  3. Have you ever read in the newspaper that a political leader or a prime minister from an Islamic nation has visited Japan? Have you ever come across news that the Ayatollah of Iran or the King of Saudi Arabia or even a Saudi Prince has visited Japan? Japan has put strict restrictions on Islam and ALL Muslims. The reasons are: a) Japan is the only nation that does not give citizenship to Muslims. b) In Japan permanent residency is not given to Muslims. c) There is a strong ban on the propagation of Islam in Japan. d) In the University of Japan, Arabic or any Islamic language is not taught. e) One cannot import a ‘Koran’ published in the Arabic language. f) According to data published by the Japanese government, it has given temporary residency to only 2 lakhs, Muslims, who must follow the Japanese Law of the Land. These Muslims should speak Japanese and carry their religious rituals in their homes. g) Japan is the only country in the world that has a negligible number of embassies in Islamic countries. h) Japanese people are not attracted to Islam at all. I) Muslims residing in Japan are the employees of foreign companies. j) Even today, visas are not granted to Muslim doctors, engineers or managers sent by foreign companies. k) In the majority of companies it is stated in their regulations that no Muslims should apply for a job. l) The Japanese government is of the opinion that Muslims are fundamentalist and even in the era of globalization they are not willing to change their Muslim laws. m) Muslims cannot even think about renting a house in Japan. n) If anyone comes to know that his neighbour is a Muslim then the whole neighbourhood stays alert. o) No one can start an Islamic cell or Arabic ‘Madrasa’ in Japan. p) There is no Sharia law in Japan. q) If a Japanese woman marries a Muslim then she is considered an outcast forever. r) According to Mr. Cumin Yagi, Professor of Arab/Islamic Studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, “There is a mind frame in Japan that Islam is a very narrow minded religion and one should stay away from it.” s) Freelance journalist Mohammed Juber toured many Islamic countries after 9/11 including Japan. He found that the Japanese were confident that extremists could do no harm in Japan.

  15. According to United Sikhs ground volunteers, at least 30-35 thousand Sikhs have been affected by the floods. At the moment, Srinagar is one of the only areas which are accessible by air; the other three districts are completely cut off from any form of communication and aid. Furthermore, funerals have been halted as there is no room or time for them to be performed. A Gurdwara which has not been affected by the floods, based in the Budgam district, called Shaheed Bunga Sahib, has become a place refuge for many survivors, Sikh, Muslim and Hindus. At present there are 4000-5000 people at the Shaheed Bunga Sahib Gurdwara and langar is being served three to four times a day to all victims.” http://sikhsiyasat.net/2014/09/10/united-sikhs-launches-kashmir-relief-mission-issues-appeal-for-donations/
  16. British citizens stranded in Kashmir as floods wreak havoc in region Families are struggling to contact around 50-60 British people as mobile phone networks have collapsed in the disaster Jason Burke in Delhi and Josh Halliday theguardian.com, Friday 12 September 2014 10.24 EDT Sikhs use a raft to assist with flood relief in central Srinagar on 12 September 2014. Indian Kashmir's main city has 'drowned completely' under floodwaters, a senior official said. Photograph: Tauseef Mustafa/AFP/Getty Images More than 50 British citizens have been stranded for days by massive floods in Kashmir that have displaced more than a million people and killed over 450. Overwhelmed authorities have struggled to cope with the extent of the disaster. On Thursday, the Pakistani army were forced to blow holes in dykes, inundating farmland, to protect major population centres. Though waters have receded in recent days in India, swollen rivers fed by heavy monsoon rain continued to threaten major cities in neighbouring Pakistan. Further rains are forecast for the weekend. This year's floods in Kashmir are the deadliest in the territory in 50 years. "Srinagar has drowned completely, it's unrecognisable. Almost everything is in ruins, it is just unimaginable," Mehraj-Ud-Din Shah, state disaster response force chief of the Kashmir region, told AFP news agency by phone. He said work was "in full swing" to rescue people. "Even now, around [100,000] people are believed to be stranded in different places," he said. Other estimates of those awaiting rescue were much higher, with some putting the figure at over half a million. Some of the stranded British citizens are in hotels or relief camps in or around Srinagar, the main city in Indian-administered parts of the disputed Himalayan former princedom. Others are in more remote villages. Many have been unable to contact their families as mobile phone networks have collapsed in and around Srinagar. Khalid Suhail, 35, from Shepperton in Surrey, has been unable to contact his mother and sister in Kashmir for over a week. "Like a lot of people, every day we're trying different numbers to speak to them but there's no connectivity. The whole infrastructure there has basically collapsed, it's all under water," he said. Suhail described as "shocking" the relief efforts so far, calling on the British government to do more to help Britons caught up in the disaster. "The relief efforts are very, very slow, there's hardly anything going on. We don't even know the full scale of it yet – there has been no news from the villages – and we hear they're saving the ministers and politicians first and the common people are a second priority for them," he said. "We had a week of worry. We were just stuck not knowing. It's a massive relief," said the brother of one Birmingham-based woman, a mature student who had been staying with a friend in his village and who managed to contact her family after six days. He did not want to be named. British officials in Delhi said they had compiled a list of "50 to 60" citizens who were stranded in Kashmir, but had no reports of any casualties. The names have been forwarded to Indian authorities who were working to evacuate them. Anyone in Kashmir was advised to stay in their hotels or other accommodation and await rescuers, one official said. In London, a Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are aware of the floods in Pakistan and India. We stand ready to provide consular assistance to British nationals affected." The British-Indian community has deep links with the Kashmir region. Many Kashmiris came to Britain in the 1950s and 1960s. Many of those stranded have family connections in Srinagar and elsewhere. Others are tourists. Srinagar has also been hit by looting, leading some householders to risk their lives and stay with their homes to protect their property. Jamal Ahmed Dar, who lives close to Srinagar's Dal Lake, said his neighbours had already caught two looters red-handed. "We came across and then caught up with two young men on a boat who we didn't recognise," he said. "When we searched them, we found they had cash and other belongings that they couldn't account for. We gave them a bit of a slap, took the stuff back off them and then handed it over to the rescue coordinators." A spokesman for Save the Children in Srinagar described tens of thousands of people "living on streets, parks, temporary shelters in mosques and Sikh temples". "In most areas of the city, power supply has not been restored. Mobile phones are not working in most of the city and are erratic at best. There is severe scarcity of clean water. Food and fuel stocks are running low and those who can afford it are buying large quantities of basic items like medicines, salt and food stocks," the spokesman said. An analysis by the Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) warned that India would face "more and more" extreme weather events in the future. Last year, flooding in northern India killed more than 5,000 people and caused massive damage. In 2010, the worst floods in Pakistan in living memory killed 2,000 and caused an estimated $10bn of damage.
  17. Five Sikh families leave for India File photo of members of the Sikh community in Pakistan. PHOTO: ONLINE PESHAWAR: Against the backdrop of escalating violence against religious minority communities, at least five Sikh families have left Pakistan for India, citing financial woes, a family elder revealed on Thursday. Baba Amarjit Singh, a community senior in Peshawar, said that migrating families traded in commodities including textiles with India and had moved to seek better business opportunities. I dont like going to India as our Guru was born and buried in Pakistan. The Indian government is always suspicious of our presence, he said, expressing displeasure over their decision. Members of the community have to meet stringent visa requirements for a pilgrimage to the Golden Temple, the holiest of Sikh shrines, in Amritsar, India. Most pilgrims are allowed to visit India after they submit a written undertaking that they would not seek asylum and would return to Pakistan within 30 days. We have to make a group of at least 200 people to visit the Golden Temple and our visas are limited to just one week, Amarjit said. Narrating the ordeal, he said, there is no respect for Sikhs travelling from Pakistan and its not easy for us to visit Amritsar, he added. Sikhs form a tiny community in the country, with a sizeable number of them concentrated in Punjab and Peshawar. Despite efforts by Islamabad, the current wave of migration seems to be continuing as most minority communities leave the country bearing tales of discrimination, mistreatment and widespread uncertainty. Citing financial difficulties, Baba Gurpal Singh, another elder in the area, said that several Sikh families have migrated to Hassanabdal and Nankana Sahib. There are a variety of reasons for leaving Pakistan but the main problem is financial uncertainty and the deteriorating law and order situation, he said. Despite Lahore being a larger city, he said that lack of security and the atmosphere of fear stalks minority communities, even in urban areas. Some people have gone back to Tirah in search of better business prospects and the number of Sikh families which was 700 has fallen to 450, he explained. We are a peaceful community but the unrest in Peshawar is forcing us to leave, despite the attitude of general public towards Sikhs in the area being very supportive, he added. 18. Sydney: Australia on Friday raised its terror threat level to high for the first time in a decade on growing concern about Australian Islamist militants returning from fighting in Iraq and Syria. The heightened alert after years on medium officially means a terrorist attack is likely and comes after repeated government warnings that attacks could happen. There are people with the intent and the capability to mount attacks here in Australia, Prime Minister Tony Abbott told a press conference. The lifting of the threat level was not based on knowledge of a specific attack plan but rather a body of evidence that points to the increased likelihood of a terrorist attack in Australia, Abbott added in a joint statement with Attorney-General George Brandis. Security and intelligence agencies are concerned about the increasing number of Australians working with, connected to, or inspired by terrorist groups such as Isil (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), Jabhat Al Nusrah, and Al Qaida, he said. The threat they pose has been increasing for more than a year. The high alert is just below extreme the top level which would indicate a terrorist attack is imminent or has occurred. It followed a similar decision by Britain in August, which raised its terror threat risk level to severe meaning an attack is thought highly likely. Abbott said his countrys alert was now broadly comparable to the threat level in the United Kingdom. Monash Universitys Global Terrorism Research Centre director Greg Barton said the alert was last raised after the September 11, 2001 attacks and following the 2002 Bali bombings. Weve never had the alert bumped up when nothings happened when theres no incident, Barton said, adding that the current move was largely driven by developments with [isil]. The government believes up to 60 Australians are fighting alongside militants for Isil, while another 100 were actively working to support the movement at home. Abbott said based on previous experience with Australians who went to Afghanistan and Pakistan to join the Taliban, they had retained the inclination to engage in terrorist activity when they returned home. We do know that people coming back from the Middle East are militarised and brutalised, accustomed to kill without compunction, do pose a significant threat to our community should they not be under the closest possible supervision, he said. Barton said the higher alert would give authorities more resources in patrolling public locations and in sifting through intelligence about potential attacks. Given that our big concern at the moment is the targeting of soft targets, particularly something like a train station in the city... our best line of defence... is intelligence, he said. Abbott stressed the new threat level was not linked to his governments decision to support US military action in Iraq and Syria, adding: We have experienced significant levels of threats for a long time now. We would be targets regardless of anything that we did. The Australian Strategic Policy Institutes executive director Peter Jennings agreed, saying that while Australias alliance with the US might see some extra risk, it was only a result of a prolonged process of radicalisation involving significant numbers of Australians over the last few years. Brandis stressed that the decision was not targeted at Muslims. http://gulfnews.com/news/world/other-world/australia-raises-terror-alert-to-high-on-mideast-fears-1.1384303
