  1. very interesting My dad once said that 'we lost our best blood in 84' His statement makes some sense in the analogy you have provided.
  2. HSD, Can you give an executive summary on genetics so that we can better understand it? Cheers
  3. Punjabis are a naturally athletic people. Last year back in pind, all the lads had six packs and did training (dand, bethkan, shapateh, sprints and rope climbing) However, I wouldnt say that Punjabis are particularly big - they are about average and probably smaller when compared to goreh and kalay. A study in 1988 comfirms this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3190178...Pubmed_RVDocSum Average height was 170.4cm and average weight was 54.5kg. The average body types were endo-ectomorph and meso-ectomorph which basically means slim but athletic. I think that this whole idea that Sikhs used to be some kind of huge bodybuilder type race as portrayed in some of these 'Sikhi Art posters' is a huge exaggeration. More likely than not, they had very fit, lean and sinewy type bodies, resulting in great endurance and speed, rather than being bulky monsters. Sikhs were usually bigger than most of the other Indians though. Punjabis in Canada and America are naturally bigger because of diet and emphasis on bodybuilding etc Remember though being good at fighting isnt all about how big you are, its about how well trained and clever you are. Pakiz in the UK are about the same size as Punjabis (although they were smaller in my dad's generation). Most of them are not particularly 'harder' than Sikhs, but they can be nasty and dangerous and have no qualms about putting a shank in your ribs from behind. They also outnumber Sikhs by like 50 to 1 and always live and hang around in large groups and stick together. They are bullying gang-bangers and can smell weakness from a mile off, like a pack of wolves. If you ever end up in a fight with them you will have to be completely ruthless because the only thing they respect is pain. Personally, I cant see any point in going out and trying to fight them because we will probably lose. We are better off keeping out of those situations and privately doing training and martial arts so that we can defend ourselves, our families and our Gurdwaras as a last resort, if we have no other choice.
  4. Basically Canada is just full of apnay, so they got noone to fight there apart from themselves. Thats why they come on here and give it loads. When I see them single-handedly fight off a gang of mirpuris in Alum Rock with little more than their own bare fists, I will accept that they might be harder than us UK Singhs. Canadian Singhs aint been challenged by anyone yet. Lets see what they can do under a bit of pressure lol
  5. hockey sticks are good for hitting people with Yes hockey is a good sport
  6. Neehang bhaji, I dont agree with your point about people having courage and being born to fight. If that was the case, why do we take amrit and transform ourselves from being giddars to sheres? What about the sparrow fighting the hawk? I thought that was the whole point of becoming a Khalsa. There are lots of examples of people being who are weak and get bullied who later become great fighters. I also dont think that 'fear' of retaliation, jail and getting hurt are necessarily bad things. I quote Sun Tzu on this one: 'The art of war is of vital importance to the State. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.' - Sun Tzu, the Art of War Basically, violence is a bad thing. It is a painful, bitter and costly road to follow and both sides lose out in one way or another. Anyone who chooses to embark on this road must make all the mental calculations beforehand. What can they afford to lose? What is at stake? How far are they willing to go? That being said, we should not be pussys and fail to act when it is the right thing to do.
  7. Something for guys who want info on krav maga course in nottingham (from a pM query): vjkk vjkf Krav maga and fast defence course covered how to deal with verbal threats, protecting your personal space using a 'fence', basic and power ful strikes, defence against gangs, guns, knives and bats and practice against fully padded attackers. An additional short course for women and kids was added on after the inital 10 week course. With Maharaj's kirpa, we were able to fund the course using local government grants through SCYS Nottingham. The whole thing cost 3.5 K Unfortunately in order to get top quality instruction, you have to pay alot of money. If we didnt have a grant we would have had to ask participants to pay their own fees. There were twenty male participants for the initial 10 week course, all Singhs and over 16. Everyone enjoyed it and were much more capable of being able to defend themselves after the course. The guy that taught the course is called David Stevens from krav maga nottingham: http://www.kravmaga-nottingham.co.uk/ There are some great krav maga and Fast defence instructors in Birmingham. One of the best is a guy called Graham from solihul who helped with the Nottingham courses: http://www.solihullselfdefence.co.uk/ One of the best ways to get Sikhs learning this en masse, is to get Sikhs who already experienced in martial arts to attend the courses and then train as instructors which can be done relatively quickly, but at some personal financial investment. For example, there are some krav maga and fast defence courses for experienced martial artists which last for a week or so and qualify you to teach it. This sounds like a load of rubbish but actually happens quite commonly when instructors travel all over the world and introduce combatives and self defence to police forces and the military etc. Have a look on the net, you will see that there are loads of these kinds of courses available. Subsequently, if you had Singhs trained up in it, they could teach it en masse at a lower price or for sewa. The other thing you can do is to get in touch with SCYS Nottingham and find out more about the course, the local government grant that funded it and how to apply for it. I will post this on the main board in case other people are also interested. vjkk vjkf
  8. Geeza. all this fighting and violence has left me lonely and needing of love. I have now dedicated my life to finding it...
  9. I also liked a different book which gives an insight an insight into how the Panthic commitee was formed in 1986 at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and formed the basis of the Kharkoo movement in Punjab, along with who some of the key players were. The book shows actually shows how organised the kharkoo Singhs were in those days and how for a short time, in parts of Punjab, it seemed like 'Kharkoo Singhan da raj.' The Sikhs of the Punjab: Unheard Voices of State and Guerilla Violence (Politics in Contemporary Asia) (Paperback) by Joyce Pettigrew (Author) http://www.amazon.com/Sikhs-Punjab-Guerill...9406&sr=8-1
  10. maybe we should just forget all this fighting business. make love not war
  11. I am a Khalistani and I believe that Sikhs should have Khalistan... however... I think that alot of people on both sides have overused the label 'khalistan' and this name has been dragged through the mud and completely rinsed out. It has become a dirty word that lacks any credability. If you tell people that you are a Khalistani, people think that you are an extremist, terrorist, bigot etc. I think that we now need to focus on what rights we need to obtain in order to flourish in Punjab rather than trying to fight an independence movement. We have to imagine what privelages we would experience in Khalistan and try and obtain those as opposed to doing it under the label of Khalistan. In the 1970s, Sikhs came together and passed The Anandpur Sahib Resolution, which became the broad agenda that Sikhs had for the Panth and for Punjab as a whole. It was based on the issues that Sikhs were facing from a political, economic and religious perspective and some aims, objectives and demands to rectify some of the problems. I think that the time has come for Sikhs to come together and set a new up-to-date agenda for the Panth based on the challenges that we are facing right now, in the modern day. Off the top of my head, some things that would need to be addressed in the new agenda would be: 1. A new strategy to combat 'patit puna' in Punjab and the spread of Sikhi parchar amongst the general population 2. Strategy to curb the activities of anti-Sikh groups by pushing for laws that protect Sikhs against the distortion of bani, distortion of Sikh history and preaching hate against Sikhi or the Gurus (aka Lala Jagat Narain) 3. A push for more Sikhs to be recruited into the India Police and military (on the basis that Sikhs as a minority do not feel safe in Punjab or the rest of India at the hands of the police who are very brutal against Sikh protests etc) ...the list could go on. Mainly I think we should be aiming to get as much legal protection in the Indian constitution as possible, on the basis that we are a minority group. The Indian constitution has done all sorts to empower the lower castes in India for years, I am sure that we could do something similar if we pushed for it. Anyone got any other suggestions how a new agenda could/should be formed?
  12. nah, these were just normal pindu guys. Remember, kabaddi is their main sport just like football is here in UK. I guess it also depends on what you mean as getting good 'results' If your talking purely about cosmetics, then possibly, kaalay look better because they have a lower body fat composition. However, if you talk about body performance then I dont really think that race comes into it that much. Its all about hard work and hard training. Its not purely about body genetics. Look at the chinese in the olympics they were killing it, yet they are smaller than everyone else and wouldnt have what I would describe as gifted natural genetics. However, they train religiously and are very dedicated. Even if there was some truth in the idea that apnay dont have the best genetics, I dont think that this is the main reason why we should be held back in sports. It is easy to blame genetics for our misgivings but I guess it is harder to just walk through them and train that extra bit harder if we have to
  13. kidda fordcarpri, Too be honest, when I went to Punjab, I did a fair bit of wrestling and kabaddi with the local pindus who were of my age group. All of them were into training and had cut up physiques. Obviously none of them had computer games and some of them had never even tasted chocolate. None of them had any motor transport and would either take the bus or walk. My point is that I dont agree that apnay have poor physiques genetically. Actually our physiques are naturally pretty good but we dont make the most out of them by training hard and eating properly. Sedentary lifestyle is the main cause of poor physique. Also, if you want to have a cut-up physique your going to have to push the cardiovascular endurace training and not just do weights. Over the years Iv used quite a few resources for this including: http://www.wildmantraining.com/ I find short intense circuits lasting 5-10 minutes, excellent ways of increasing fitness, endurance and burning fat. For example, set your alarm for ten minutes and do 10 push ups, 10 burpees and 10 sit ups as fast as you can, and do it continuously for ten minutes without any rest. You dont have to go to the gym for this and can do it in your house very easily. Hope this helps vjkk vjkf
  14. Dal Singh: You are incorrect -back in the day, Singhs used to kick the hek out of the kalae -fact. Handsworth riots (early 80s), Kalae targeted Singhs, Singhs came back and showed no mercy. Singhs went to Winson Green prison as a result for 2 years ! Once, in the mid-late 80s kalae attacked the Gurdwara Sahib on Soho Road, Singhs beat them with scaffolding poles ! I think what Ford Capri is 'trying to say' is Singhni are lacking identity and in order to quash their low self esteem thrive on so called pseudo liberalisim. I say good ridance to bad rubbish. Once your in the viscous circle of mixed relationships the only way is down and out of the Panth. Fact.
  15. Every town/city needs a jatha of about 10-15 well trained, tough Singhs, who can come together and form a larger force if necessary, with a view to undertaking any panthic sewa that might require some physical force. Everyone should take charge of organising something in their own town/city. If your Gurdwara will allow it, you can get some boys together and start training there. Alot of Singhs do train but they need to spend at least one session a week training together. This forms a greater bond and sense of commaradrie between them. Training needs to be tough, aggressive, swearing, shouting and scary ... just like real life fights are. In the British parachute regiment, they make their troops do something called 'milling' to toughen themselves up. Basically they get paired up with someone of equal size, put some boxing goves and spend the next minute trying to take each others heads clean off Training needs to focus on street fighting, gangs, knives, guns, baseball bats and no holds barred, rather than training for a boxing match in the ring etc. In Nottingham, Singhs organised a ten week course in Krav maga and fast defence. It covered basic strategies for dealing with verbal abuse, maintaining physical boundaries (the fence), basic strikes and defence against knives, gangs and guns. The highlight of the course were a series of scenario training exercises where guys in fully padded suits would give the participants lots of verbal abuse and them attack them, forcing them to fight back with everything they have got.
  16. I think that the BBC dealt with this sensitively by not labelling this filthy pervert as a Sikh, despite his description of wearing a blue pagh and beard. Although every community has a small proportion of perverts in its population, I still think that we Sikhs are still generally known and respected for having good conduct most of the time, compared to other groups such as musalmaan and kaleh. Anyone got any views on this?
  17. Well done to the DSGMC for their firm stance on this issue. I strongly believe that one of the best ways to preserve Sikhi in India is through the enforcement of Sikhi values in Schools and Colleges. They should have a zero tolerence policy when it comes to people who falter in their practice of Sikhism and come out with rubbish such as denying their own surname, Singh and Kaur. What kind of nonsense is this? These were distinctive markers given to us by Guru Gobind Singh ji himself! Shame on the young girl in question for denying this. Unfortunately harsh times require harsh actions. If we are going to preserve our faith and propogate it further, we need to be firm in our resolve.
  18. bread is crap and fattening. stay away from it. roti is best.
  19. Sangat Ji, I am planning a week or so at Sri Harmandir Sahib specifically. I dont want to travel anywhere else -just do sewa and get to know the place a little better. Can anybody recommend: 1. the best way to arrange accomodation at Sri Harmandir Sahib -I understand you can only stay there for 1 night (maybe wrong). Names/ numbers/ process appreciated 2. a good local hotel in the vicinity of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Names of hotels you would recommend/ rates to expect 3. best way to get from Amritsar airport to Sri Harmandir Sahib I have been many times before but with people who always know the area. I just want to get a back pack, jump on a plane and chill when I get there -without the usual apna carry on/ nonsense antics. Any assistance apprecitated.
  20. menu ki patha, lol. NO thanks. I would like my head to still be attached to my body thank you very much!
  21. Dhanasaree, I know where you are coming from when you say that what I have written is gandh. And you are right that ultimately a Sikh's role in life is to keep wicked rehat and be pleasing to akal purakh. The reason that I wrote the above post was that there are many influences out there such as Hindi films, bollywood, stupid radio programmes etc that are out there trying to make us look like stupid and unattractive. However, I am simply stating that Sikhs are the best in all areas of life- that includes spirituality, martial prowess and physical beauty. We are second to nonone. The Guru's wanted Sikhs too be attractive and indeed the Khalsa roop is beautiful. We should take pride in it. Now personally, I am against dating. I think it is a waste of time. To be honest I used the words 'dating' and 'lonliness' as more of a laugh. I agree with you.. Singhs are never meant to be lonely. But if you say to me that we Sikhs are an ugly unattractive bunch, I will have words with you. Remember, even if you dont date and you have an arranged marriage, your wife will still be have to be attracted to you at some level to say yes...that includes if she is a dastaar wearing Gursikh. Dont be naive and think that no effort will be required on your part and somehow a great soul mate will just fall out of the sky. Remember, it is the duty of every Singh to attract the best Gursikh wife that he can. Because in actual fact, your jeevan depends on it. Your wife is your main sangat and you want it to be the best sangat possible for you. Some effort will be required in obtaining this.
  22. lol your kenyan pagh? I might mistake it for a samosa and eat it by mistake !
  23. The Singh is King School of Dating for lonely Singhs : The following advice about women and dating is what I told my younger brother as he was growing up and first began to notice whiskers of hair popping up on his chin and armpits. Clearly, there are lots of brothers on Sikh sangat who are up there somewhere on planet Chardikala and dont need this sort of advice. For the rest of the lesser mortals, you may or may not find some value in this. In order to attract women, we need to do the following: 1. Create a strong and powerful sense of identity. As Sikhs we are blessed with a strong spiritual and martial tradition. We have certain charactersisitcs such as bravery, honour, kindness, selfless service and sacrifice. Our moral code is based on vand chako, kirt karo and naam japoh. The qualities that Sikhs possess are very attractive. We should promote them in our day to day life, in every thing that we do. Instead of trying to please 'girls' by trying to mould ourselves around them or desparately trying to assimilate into the rest of society, we should be bold and proud, and STAMP our identity and values down hard. Believe me, nothing is more attractive to a woman than a strong man who knows who he is, what he wants and where he is going. 2. Be Positive. No woman is going to find you attractive if you always play the victim mentality and are constantly moaning. Dont moan about Sikhs having a hard time, finding it hard to get married and get jobs etc. Always be positive. Sell Sikhi and sell yourself as being a Singh. Give the message that Sikhism is the best thing since sliced bread and that you love everything about it. Promote the 'Singh brand'. In fact, you have to make everyone around you feel like they are missing out because they are not Sikhs. Talk about Sikhi enthusiastically, as if it is a great adventure. Trust me, that is attractive. Everyone wants to be part of something that is going places, especially women. 3. Develop your personality. Dont be a one dimensional android. Become an exciting and interesting person to be around. This could be because you are a funny person or because you are extremely wise. It doesnt matter. Just create an aura around yourself as being an exceptional and distinguised person who stands out from the crowd in some way. Remember we Singhs are sava lakh and we are different to all the average Joes out there. We are special. We need to believe it and we need to radiate it. 4. Develop your physical presence. Remember that our dastaar and dhara are an asset. The Guru has given us these because they are the signs of ROYALTY and SOVEREIGNTY. Dont hide them. Put them on display and develop them as assets. Learn to tie the baddest and most dangerous looking dastaar that you can. Make it so beautiful that even the most hateful cannot deny its grandeur. If that is not attractive, I dont know what is. Which woman would say no to a King who wears a crown? Also, develop your posture and physique. Nothing is more attractive than a handsome Singh who stands tall and walks like a lion, chest out, stomach in and chin up. 5. Train in the gym and learn how to fight. One of the most attractive and heroic qualities that Sikhs can offer is their martial prowess. By being good fighters we are demonstrating our ability to defend our women, our families, community and the weak. We are showing that we are true heroes. Not greasy, slimy monay bollywood type heroes with sunglasses. We are the real heroes and we should let that be known. 6. Develop your career. Work hard in School, get educated and get a top job. Nothing is more attractive than a Singh who is on a fast track to the top of his career. Not only are you more powerful, you are also wealthy and can enjoy a great lifestyle. You are demonstrating your ability to look after a woman and her children and to give them a good quality of life. Very attractive. Makes you a great catch. 7. Develop your leadership qualities. Women love natural leaders. Anything from being president of a university society to being Mayor of London is going to get you noticed. It shows that you are a great communicator, you are confident, you are powerful and that you have influence over other men. These are chief chracterisitics of a chief or a SARDAR. We are a powerful and influential people. What else could any woman wish for? 8. Develop your talents. It doesnt matter whether its kirtan, art, gatka, gymnastics. We as Singhs need to take the time to develop our talents and be seen excelling in our chosen fields. Being talented also presents you as being an interesting, intelligent, sharp and able individual. No woman wants to be with anyone who is boring and is completely talentless. So Develop talents! In Summary, the Guru's, whilst not having dating and attraction in mind, have actually made Sikhism an extremely attractive religion and Sikhs an extremely attractive people. We Singhs have all the natural ingredients to make us the the best saints, the best fighters and the best lovers. We need to stop this moaning and victim mentality, we need to get ourselves in gear, be postive, bold and fearless. We need to go out there and find the women of our dreams... the right sort of women... the best women...The kind of women who will help us on our journey of getting closer to God. Long live Singhs SINGH IS KING, SINGH IS KING, SINGH IS KING, SINGH IS KING
  24. Each community of people (living or otherwise) has the concept of 'twat'. For example: PS. Soiling of ones own kachera (or someone elses) whilst watching the above clip is mahabeadbi under article 2.2 of the sanatan-niddar maryada of kung fu.
