  1. I was at an anand karaj at weekend in midlands. Before lava the bride and groom were asked to stand in maharajas hazoori and the registrar asked them to repeat the 'wedding vows'. Then the couple exchanged rings right there while al sangat was sat in darbar hall. Then the anand karaj was performed. I have been thinking about it all weekend. I"m thinking of contacting the Gurdwara to consider holding this farce in another room after the anand karaj. Any thoughts on this...am i making it a big issue for nothing?

  3. 29 May 2013 Last updated at 19:09 Gurkiren Loyal death: Tests 'show brain infection'By Michele Paduano BBC Midlands health correspondent Gurkiren Kaur Loyal was taken to hospital but died by the time she arrived Continue reading the main story Related Stories'Tests due' on girl's missing organs Parents' plea over girl's death Watch Parents' plea over death of girl, 8 Tests carried out into how an eight-year-old girl died in a hospital in India have found there was evidence of infection around the brain. Gurkiren Loyal's body was repatriated without some internal organs so it has not been possible to carry out a post-mortem examination in the UK. Gurkiren, from Birmingham, fell ill on holiday in the Punjab in April. She died suddenly following an injection after being diagnosed with mild dehydration at a clinic in Khanna. The histopathology report into Gurkiren's death was written by doctors at Rajindra Hospital. The report by the Government Medical College in Patiala also stated the child's liver had degraded, possibly due to the four days between her death and post-mortem examination and high temperatures in India. 'International protocol' Gurkiren had been diagnosed with a heart defect years earlier but her mother said doctors had deemed her fit to fly to India. The head of the hospital's pathology department, Dr Manjeet Singh Bal, denied any allegations of misuse of the organs. He previously said he had retained her heart, lungs, brain and part of her liver at the department of pathology. Dr Singh Bal said: "The organs were in the hospital and - due to an international protocol - the organs have to be extracted for an autopsy." Santokh Singh Loyal and Amrit Kaur Loyal said they did not know what had been in the injection He said there was no possibility of any organ-harvesting and noted that only kidney transplantation takes place in the Punjab. In those cases, the donor and recipient would be in the same room during the operation, which would only be carried out after exhaustive cross matching had taken place, Dr Singh Bal said. There has been no response from Dr Singh Bal for a diagnosis as to a probable cause of death after requests by the BBC. Gurkiren's mother Amrit Kaur Loyal said she was aware of the report but had not been given a copy of it or been contacted by the Indian authorities. She said: "It's upsetting when you lose a child and none of the major authorities out there are willing to help you. "I am really hurt deep down as a parent. "They say brain disease, heart disease, but I personally believe it was the injection. It happened so quick."
  4. The family appeared last night on Sikh Channel at 8pm. They deserve praise for having the courage to come on a Live Show and tell thier tragic story. Perhaps a member could upload thier interview for sangat to view? RIP Gurkiren
  5. Looks like the corupt lyers are up to their old tricks: From Times of India: CHANDIGARH/KHANNA: Punjab health department on Thursday ruled out any possibility of harvesting of organs of eight-year-old UK-based girl, GurkirenKaur Loyal, whose parents had alleged foul play during her treatment at a hospital near Ludhiana when they visited India, even as police initiated criminal proceedings to ascertain the exact cause of her death. The state-run Rajendra hospital and Medical College in Patiala, which had conducted the girl's post mortem examination, verified that Loyal's organs were intact. "All organs are at the government laboratory. Her parents were informed about this regular autopsy procedure," Punjab principal secretary (health) Vini Mahajan told TOI. The Birmingham-based family of Gurkiren, who died seconds after being administered an injection at a private clinic in Khanna on April 2, had said on Tuesday that their kid's organs were missing and suspected that these could be used for illegal transplant. Maintaining that the autopsy report was inconclusive, Dr SS Oberoi, head of forensic medicine and toxicology at Rajendra Hospital, Patiala, however, said that the girl's liver, kidney and intestines had been sent for chemical examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Kharar in Mohali district. "Her heart and brain were retained at the pathology department at the hospital. The viscera report from Kharar needs to be examined and will be shared with the girl's parents. We were not satisfied with the post mortem examination report," said Dr Oberoi. He refused to share any details. The Punjab Police has started criminal proceedings to find the cause of Gurkiren's death. "The SHO has initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. Whenever a person dies under mysterious circumstances, police on its own marks an investigation under the section. Investigations are on," said Khanna SSP S Boopthi. "The post-mortem examination was done by a board of doctors at the Patiala hospital before the body was handed over to the parents. Final report of doctors is awaited," said Boopthi. According to the Khanna police, Gurkiren was brought dead at the private clinic in Khanna when her parents shifted her from Modgill Clinic on April 2. "She was treated at Modgill Clinic and as her condition deteriorated, she was referred to the nursing home where she was declared dead on arrival," a note from the Khanna police said. Police also said Gurkiren's parents had insisted on not registering an FIR report on the girl's death. Gurkiren was on a vacation in Punjab during the Easter break
  6. My daughter attends the same school as Gurkiran did in Birmingham and knew her. We found out about the tragedy after Easter. Tha parents are due to appear on Daybreak ITV1 and Sikh Channel and Sangat TV to tell their tragic story. Waheguru

Wearing a pinstriped suit with gold cuff links, a blue and white tie and a matching turban, Singh, a play-by-play announcer, called the end-to-end action in an animated stream of Punjabi, punctuated with English words like “linesman,” “icing” and “face-off.” Singh spoke at great volume as Toronto scored its first goal, crediting wing Joffrey Lupul for what translates to “picking up the wood,” a traditional Punjabi battle cry akin to bringing the house down. “Chak de phatte goooaaalll Joffrey Lupul! Torrronto Maple Putayyy!” A few minutes later, Winnipeg’s Chris Thorburn and Toronto’s Colton Orr dropped their gloves and began pounding on each other, and Singh rose in his chair to animate each blow. As the players were led to the penalty box, Chauhan, an Indian-born draftsman, writer and taxi driver, read a fighting poem he had written based on a Punjabi style of verse. The guy who is winning has a punch like a lion, and takes over the fight. He hits like a sledgehammer. They’re rivals, and he’s hung the other out to dry, not letting him go. The weekly Punjabi broadcast of “Hockey Night in Canada,” as venerated an institution for Canadians as “Monday Night Football” is for Americans, is thought to be the only N.H.L. game called in a language other than English or French. The broadcast marries Canada’s national pastime with the sounds of the Indian subcontinent, providing a glimpse of the changing face of ice hockey. Singh, 28, has developed a signature style tailored for his audience. A puck can be described as an “aloo tikki,” a potato pancake his mother makes especially well. When a team comes back in the second period with renewed energy, Singh might say what translates to “someone must have made them a good cup of chai in the intermission.” A player who celebrates after a big goal will “dance bhangra moves.” Hockey players are overwhelmingly white in both Canada and the United States, and the diversity of the sport’s fans pales in comparison with those of baseball, basketball and football. The N.H.L. has one player of South Asian heritage, the Vancouver Canucks’ Manny Malhotra. The number of children playing ice hockey in Canada has remained stagnant, said Paul Carson, the vice president for hockey development with Hockey Canada. “Growth in this country is coming from immigration from a lot of non-hockey-playing countries,” he said. “They’re coming from the Mideast, Africa, East and South Asia.” The members of Singh’s family, like most of Canada’s 1.1 million Punjabi speakers (almost twice as many as in the United States), are Sikhs. The religion is centered in the Punjab region, which straddles northwestern India and Pakistan. Sikhs have been in Canada since the late 19th century. Singh’s parents, Santokh and Surjit, were born in India and moved to Canada in the late 1960s, to work as teachers in Brooks, a small town in Alberta. Singh, the youngest of their four children, was born in 1984, months after Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers won their first Stanley Cup. “These were the prime Gretzky years,” Singh said. “I would set up a podium in the basement and do whole hockey awards shows. I’d sit in front of the TV and call games until everyone told me to shut up.” Inderpreet Cumo, a distant cousin who then lived in British Columbia, would sometimes visit, and they would narrate games together. Today, Cumo, 31, is a teacher in Calgary and shares the analyst role with Chauhan, 46. By the time Singh was 4, “all he was doing was remembering hockey,” his father said. He added: “I told him: ‘You just have a hockey encyclopedia in your head. Nothing else!’ ” Singh said his obsession stemmed from a desire to have something in common with other children at school, where he was the only minority student. “I wore hockey shirts,” Singh said, “because then I didn’t have to answer, ‘What is that thing on your head?’ ” Prayers and Highlights 1 2 3 4 Next Page » This article has been revised to reflect the following correction: Correction: April 26, 2013 A earlier version of this article erroneously stated that only one Muslim plays in the N.H.L. 8. I found this quite shicking and upsetting to read. The victim was at work in a public space ie a supermarket when the thug just attacked him. He probably had no time to react, especially if it happened from behind. The thug then ran off, it must have happened so quickly. i don't think we should judge the Sikh so harshly, it says he has been ostracised by his community, surely we should support him.

Ashley Cicatello, 25, had spent the afternoon drinking beer and Jagerbomb shots when he spotted the victim in a Sainsbury's supermarket on December 27, last year. Cicatello, from Dunkirk, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, told his friends: 'Get this on record. This is going on YouTube' before running up behind the victim and yanking the turban off his head. The prank caused the victim to be ostracised from his own community, it was claimed. Cicatello sprinted off with the turban and was chased through the store before being wrestled to the ground by security guards. He later admitted to police that he had 'been an absolute prat' and had done it because he wanted to be the 'class clown.' Magistrates were told the Sikh father-of-two has since transferred stores after being being too ashamed to return to work. North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons after a judge ruled that the shame of the incident had led to him being ostracised from his community - had faced the most 'gratuitous degradation.' Cicatello was convicted of religiously aggravated assault following a trial on Monday. More... Sikh men are not permitted to cut their hair and must keep their heads covered. Normally turbans are only removed in the most intimate of circumstances, when bathing the head, or washing the hair. The victim told the court the incident had devastating consequences for him. Cicatello (believed to be pictured here on a night out) then sprinted off with it and was chased through the store before being wrestled to the ground by security guards Giving evidence he said: 'Taking a turban off a Sikh guy in public is just like hanging him in public. 'After this I was not able to face my colleagues. 'If this happened in India a man would never go to this place again, it is that disgraceful. 'My self-esteem and confidence - everything has been shattered because of this incident.' The court heard Cicatello had gone to the store at 5pm to buy beer with three friends. He had drunk 'four or five pints' and four Jagerbombs - a mixture of spirit Jagermeister and Red Bull. He told the court: 'I got dared to take the turban off his head. It was nothing to do with his religion or the colour of his skin. 'It was just being stupid. I just did it because I wanted to be the class clown.' He told magistrates he ran off with the turban because he 'panicked' when he saw the anger on the victim's face. Nicola Bell, defending, said he was in full-time work and had not been before the courts for five years. She said: 'He is mortified by his actions. He has given a formal apology to the injured party.' Magistrates heard Cicatello's pals had filmed the attack on a mobile phone but the footage was deleted and never uploaded to the internet. Sentence was adjourned to allow for reports to be prepared. He was bailed to appear before the same court on March 18. 10. I've been rather surprised by all the media attention over the appearance of Guardsman Jatenderpal Bhullar on parade duty outside Buckingham Palace this week. For sure, Guardsman Bhullar, 25, has become the first Sikh to wear his turban on guard duty outside the palace. But it is not all that long ago that turban-wearing Sikhs were a familiar feature of Britain's military landscape, particularly when it came to fighting world wars. During the glory days of the Indian Empire, Sikh soldiers were highly regarded by British officers for their martial prowess and never-say-die attitude. Sikh sepoys regularly fought alongside British soldiers during the frequent tribal revolts on the Afghan frontier in famous regiments such as Rattray's Sikhs, and the young Winston Churchill nearly lost his life rescuing a wounded Sikh when he fought in the Malakand campaign of 1897. At the Battle of Saragarhi on 12 September 1897, twenty-one Sikhs from the Indian Army's Sikh Regiment won awards for gallantry. There were, of course, the occasional moments when the loyalty Britain's Sikh soldiers was called into question, most notably during the 1857 Indian Mutiny. But their bravery and courage became a mainstay of the British Army until Indian Independence, and thousands of Sikhs fought and died for Britain during two world wars. Guardsman Bhullar, then, represents a long and distinguished tradition in the British Army, which today is still reflected in the traditional Sikh battle-cry, "Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal" (Victory belongs to those who recite the name of God with a true heart). http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/concoughlin/100193886/where-would-the-british-army-be-without-the-sikhs/
