  1. Brothers, Vaisakhi was there before Sikhi. It is also a "hindu" festival...in somepart of India, they call it Pungal (Orissa maybe), other parts Baisakhi. The guy wrote it from a Hindu prespective...and that should be accepted. If you want some more info on this festival, read this: Jewish festival - Pesaak [Jewish Easter] Buddist festival - Vesaak [buddhas enlightenment day] Hindu festival - Baisakhi ['Spring season day' or moon constellation] Sikh festival - Vaisakhi [birth of Khalsa Panth] Nordic festival - Paoske [also Christan Easter day] Nordic means North-European, Viking etc...paoske is drived from Pesaak, the Hebrew word...and is used for Easter holiday. I know this, because i live in a Nordic country. Hence, this shows the linguistic relation between the Judeo-Christan Pesaak [Easter], and the Indic Baisakhi [actually it is the 'Spring season festival']. Wondered why Easter and Vaisakhi fall at the same time of the year? here you have the reason...they are infact the "same" festival. The Punjabi word Vaisakhi, (Baisakhi is some kind of Hindi...also the Sanskrit word is Vaisakha) means that the moon passes through Visakha Nakstra or a star constellation, and according to the Bikrami calender it is a month, called Visakh. Also found in the Nanakshahi calender. Among the farmers, it is the start of Vaadi or cutting the crops....and a kind of 'blessings day'. In the Sikh masses, it is related to the birth of Khalsa Panth. However it is not just a Sikh festival....the majority of this planets' people celebrate this day, in one way or the other...as shown from the note abo ve.
  2. They have changed the frontpage...but not their thinking etc. It was always like that..... From what i have gathered, it is a Nanaksar related website. so it is also 'Sanatan', ie has a different view on Sikhi...and related Sikhi to Sanatan Dharm (Hinduism).
  3. SGPC has been working for this all along...i don't understand why they put GoI tag on it B)
  4. Thanks for that. That is the book by Prof. Sahib Singh and translated by Dalip Singh ji? really good...Do you know if Dalip Singh ji is working on English translation of Sri Guru Granth Darpan?
  5. ok...here comes my stupid little question. sorry for being off-topic. In the Sikh regiment, of Indian army, is meat served there? I mean, when they are fighting etc...are they allowed to eat meat. Also, probably ALL armies in the world give special training to their soldiers that once you are lost....and don't find any food...you can eat insects and stuff...lots of proteins. so, let us say, a Sikh want to be a commando in the US army...what happens to him? sorry guys...
  6. B) interesting....so i can't see the heading in Gurmukhi...it just says: #2583;#2625;#2608;#2606;#2625;#2582; that should be ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ why doesn't this feature work on Sikhsangat.com...
  7. I just like to tell you all, that Gurmukhi Unicode can be used to type in Punjabi letters in Sikhsangat.com The benifit with Unicode is that text can be searched using Gurmukhi letters, instead of Roman "Gurmukhi fonts". Plus you don't need to download any fonts to view it, if you have Internet Explorer 6 or higher. With Unicode you can have a WHOLE forum based upon Gurmukhi letters....like writing headings....the words 'post new topic' in Gurmukhi etc. to learn more visit this site: http://guca.sourceforge.net/ and join there forum to give feedback: http://guca.sourceforge.net/forum
  8. Banda Singh ji, i have said it before...and i will say it again...the SREC site is really good. answars lots of questions on Dasam Granth...and has good Dasamesh Bani's translations.
  9. You know what... this Francis C. Assisi guy...i have read similar stuff by him before also. he is also from the same school as the gori bibi.
  10. thanks bhaji....i have blurred the photo a bit, plus my web cam is really old... B) but you can see the dastaar...that is the thread right...
  11. Great work guys! so from now on...no Kawa drinking at Gurdwaras...
  12. What about bringing the Sri Dasam Granth online? i mean english translation, and the 'correct' version...not the one as Baba Virsa people have online. that would be really nice!
  13. i can't upload...what's up. hmmm....vicky bhaji, i am sending you the files...upload them for me..or link them in or something.
  14. Bhaji i am not sure about the details, but also i think it is as Stop Singh says.... In the article it says: The worst affected areas are the districts of Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda and Mansa. In Sangrur the water table has already gone below the 15 meter mark in 58 per cent of the district while it is 53 per cent in Patiala, 40 per cent in Jalandhar and 88 per cent in Moga, they pointed out. So Majha (Amritsar, Gurdaspur....are not as much affected by this). Vicky bhaji and me are from Amritsar...but still Punjab is Punjab...if something happens in Malwa or Doaba..it should also be taken care of.
  15. Vicky bhaji, that was really cool. thanks!
  16. wow a turban with an ip. howz that?
  17. go buy a globe....whatever you see there will be the 'future Khalistan'. atleast the part whch is to be on this planet. seriously....hanji i did see some map years ago...but what the present day Khalistanis are demanding is mostly the mainland Punjab (of India). And for the Gurdwaras left outside Punjab, they say there will be International Gurdwara Commt. set up on the pattern of SGPC to take care of them. that is what i read.
  18. i think the user 'www.ShaheedKhalsa.com' is also webmaster of that site.
  19. bhaji, just click on the link.....don't copy it and paste in the url thing. just click on it...it works fine for me... or here you: Punjab not a water surplus state, say experts
  20. http://news.waheguroo.com/633Q6-12649-443Q...3-13139-35.html B)
  21. He is a famous human rights activist working with the Punjab issues for the past 15 or so years. I believe he is safe in India now, as everyone knows of him and if something happens to him....there would be major outbreak. But then agains...they did "lift" Jaswant Singh Khalra who orginally documented theses crimes....so who knows.
  22. Atlast the INDIAN Human rights orgs acknowledge that illegal cremations have taken place in Punjab. "NHRC list of illegal cremations in Punjab during militancy" is published in The Tribune.
  23. well it was actually just plane *luck* (or Kirpa) that i bumped into Sikhsangat.com. I had been to Vicky Singh's site Sikhpride.com and once i was there visiting, i saw a link to the discussion forum...and i was amazed to see how full the forum was...and how friendly the users. so i joined it.....it had a very good "flip-fade" funcion each time we loaded a page. really cool affect. but it got crashed, something happened to the place the old forum was hosted at. and for a while (perhaps some weeks or a month?) it was down.... before visiting Sikhsangat....i had only ONCE been to Waheguroo.com. I was like searching for Keertan...and bumped into Keertan.net and after that Waheguroo.com. it was at my school computer. it was about march 2003 or later...i donno. it was cold here...and snowing. man...i was just :| cause first time i saw it...it was like Yahoo! website...and after that i looked properly...and it said: Waheguroo!Network...i was like wow....a Sikh yahoo..or something...hehe. so i visited saintsoldiers...listened to Jago! and some speechan. :D also waheguroo!network had just started before that time....they were offering free hosting to any Sikhi sites... once the Sikhsangat.com forum crashed, i believe both of them contacted eachother...and agreed upon sharing space...and hosting under the same banner. so Sikhsangat.com joined Waheguroo!Network and W!N had a forum...where members related to the different sites linked to it, could chat. in other words, Sikhsangat.com was bound to be a succes. at first i thought the previous forum affect (with the flip/fade function) was better...but whatever....this forum is perfect. and i have been here over a year. i can just say one thing.....life has never been the same again. :TH:
  24. i think we all feel the same way about one and only www.SikhSangat.com name given to it by Bhupinder Singh ji from Delhi (bsbk123 is his id).
