  1. One of the forgotten destinations is South America, specifically Argentina, where a tiny Indian Sikh community is fighting to hold on to its customs and culture ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf6LB2UX8wk
  2. The UK's first Sikh religious TV service, The Sikh Channel and Birmingham's Punjabi community radio station, Raaj FM have announced their new partnership. The affiliation between the two media organizations will offer radio listeners and television viewers a multi-platform tool that will inform, educate and entertain. Through this partnership, both media outlets will share resources in order to create joint programming for their users. Based at the heart of the West Midlands community, Raaj FM will continue to cater programming that involves discussing the cultural, social and religious issues that affect the Punjabi community. This awareness chimes with the Sikh Channel which also aims to raise religious and cultural awareness. The link with Sikh Channel will allow the Raaj FM studios to be used to produce and record television programmes, whilst also allowing radio presenters the opportunity to broadcast and stream their shows on television and online. Gurpal Singh, Manager of Raaj FM, "By joining forces with The Sikh Channel, we have taken the bold step to unite two popular Asian media organisations. This partnership will allow for our listeners and Sikh Channel viewers, nationwide and around Europe, to enjoy joint high quality broadcasting that embraces our shared cultural values." Sikh Channel spokesman, Avtar Singh, "The Sikh Channel is pleased to be working closely and collaborating upon community programming with the Midlands most popular South Asian FM Radio Station. We recently aired a live television broadcast from the Raaj FM studios and this proved extremely popular with viewers and we hope to bring many new jointly produced programmes." Sikh Channel's recent International Turban Awareness Day, supported by Raaj FM, saw thousands attend a gathering outside the Houses of Parliaments. http://media247.co.uk/bizasia/newsarchive/2011/10/raaj_fm_the_sik.php

  6. For ALL those who want to split the Khalsa Panth be warned: "First they came…" is a famous statement attributed to pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

  8. http://media247.co.uk/bizasia/newsarchive/2011/09/music_india_to_2.php With ZEE Punjabi ending its coverage of Shabad Gurbani from the Golden Temple this month, BizAsia.co.uk can exclusively confirm that Music India will be the new broadcaster of the popular telecast. From Friday 16th September, Music India will exclusively broadcast Shabad Gurbani from Sri Harmandir Sahib - the channel's biggest coup since it launched in the UK. The Golden Temple coverage is seen as a premium property and with Music India snapping up the rights; it will no doubt boost the channel's profile. Furthermore, it will be the first time the coverage will be shown free-to-air. Prior to this, ZEE Network had telecast the show on its subscription channel ZEE Punjabi. ZEE Punjabi has been the broadcaster of the Golden Temple Shabad Gurbani coverage for the past nine years since ZEE Punjabi (Alpha Punjabi then) launched in the UK. Rabindra Narayan, President PTC Network, said, "We wanted to make Gurbani from Sri Darbar Sahib available to maximum viewers possible in Europe. This is why we chose the FTA channel, Music India. Now devotees do not have to pay anything to watch Gurbani." Prashant Chautani, Chairman Music India said, "We feel indeed blessed to have been chosen by the Gurus to spread their message across Europe. We have no doubt that we are just a medium and the divine powers have blessed us by giving us strength and resources to be able to bring this holy offering for everyone." "We are very delighted to be associated with Music India and work along to be able to broadcast the coverage of Shabad Gurbani from Golden Temple every day and that too free-to-air for the first time as against it being subscription based ever since it launched nearly a decade ago," says Rajiee M Shinde, co-promoter and COO of PTC Network. In 2008, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) decided to award the rights to the PTC Group after years of an agreement with ZEE Network. However, in the UK, ZEE Punjabi remained the broadcaster of the Golden Temple Shabad Gurbani due to PTC Punjabi not having presence here. With PTC Punjabi's launch in the UK delayed, the coverage of the Golden Temple Shabad Gurbani will be shown on Music India, which thusfar has been broadcasting PTC News bulletins. Music India will telecast the Shabad Gurbani slots same time as ZEE Punjabi - 04:00 - 08:00 and 16:00 - 18:00 daily, from Friday 16th September. Music India UK is distributed by World Media Connect, which also handles Imagine Dil Se. "This along with the already airing PTC News bulletins will consolidate Music India’s position specially among the Punjabi population of UK & Europe" says Sumant Bahl, President European Operations for World Media Connect. Music India is available free-to-air on Sky Digital channel 822.

  10. (From BizAsia) ZEE Punjabi will cease broadcasting Shabad Gurbani from Amritsar's Golden Temple in mid-September after its contract with the Gurdwara ended. The six-hour daily show live from the Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar has been a staple in ZEE Punjabi's schedule since its inception. The Gurbani is being replaced with a direct feed with from New Delhi's Bangla Sahib Gurdwara from Thursday 15th September. The final day of coverage from the Golden Temple on ZEE Punjabi will be on Tuesday 14th September. The show will then shift to PTC Punjabi who now own the rights. 11. A bit of history............. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2008/200812 ... ab1.htm#13 Zee TV urges Badal to lift blackout Jangveer Singh Tribune News Service Chandigarh, December 18 2008 Zee television today claimed it had brought the issue of blackout of its Zee Punjabi channel on December 16, after it telecast allegations against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, to the notice of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and expected him to take prompt action in this regard. Talking to TNS from Delhi, Pramod Kaul, televisions' head, current affairs, said though the channel had been operating in Punjab since the past nine years, it was the first time it had faced such a situation. He said the channel felt that the government could address the issue because the channel had been blackedout after it telecast a press conference of Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira who had claimed that Sukhbir Badal had acquired control over the DIGI cable operator network in the state as well as PTC channel. Kaul said there was a need for transparency in the system as all of a sudden Zee Punjabi was 106th on the band width in Punjab which effectively meant that it could not be accessed by anyone who had a cable connection. Speaking today evening, he said it had already been 48 hours since the channel was blackedout but the government had failed to react on the issue despite a promise by the Chief Minister that he would look into it. Meanwhile, Romila Sharma, Zee Punjabi business head, said this was not the first time that the media had been gagged in this manner. She said earlier Roop Sharma, president, cable operators federation of India, had alleged that the Badal family was behind snipping off the popular channel "Punjab Today" in 2007. She said the case had been forwarded to the then I&B minister and it was alleged that Sukhbir Badal and Parkash Singh Badal had used unethical and unlawful means to threaten cable operators in Punjab region. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today alleged that the government had banned relay of Zee Punjabi in the state through the cable network as part of Sukhbir Badal's effort to only allow relay of programmes that were in conformity with his political doctrine and views. In a statement here, Capt Amarinder alleged Sukhbir had taken over the cable network by coercive methods of threat, by the use of the police, and the registration of false cases against cable operators. He said PTC was the only Punjabi channel on the appropriate UHF band in Punjab giving maximum coverage in the state. Sukhbir Badal could not be contacted for his comments despite numerous attempts.
  12. ZEE Punjabi to increase Shabad Gurbani output From September, ZEE Punjabi will be extending the hours it devotes to Shabad Gurbani, BizAsia.co.uk can confirm. With ZEE Network UK's contract with Amritsar's Golden Temple Gurdwara coverage nearing to an end, the channel will be introducing a new 60-minute slot daily at 09:30 dedicated to Gurbani from New Delhi's Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. Furthermore, the channel will also be adding an extra 30-minute Gurbani slot at 18:30 daily. This means from September, ZEE Punjabi will be broadcasting ten hours per day of Sikh religious programming as a part of its output. ZEE Punjabi UK/Europe currently is the exclusive broadcaster of the Golden Temple, Amritsar Gurbani and has been since the channel has been available in this territory. However, with main rights holder, PTC Punjabi planning its launch in the UK later this year, the Golden Temple Gurbani will move to their channel. http://media247.co.uk/bizasia/newsarchive/2011/08/zee_punjabi_to_3.php
