  1. Chall, their are differing arguments on this subject. Some are more attracted to vichars of bhai Sahib, some Taksal, Singh Sabha...........Lets take laha from these great brothers of ours. It is important also that although we might differ on certain concepts it is important that we do not slander anybody or organisation. Lets state our respective view and keep it at that. However one thing is certain, if we want to reach a destination such as SachKhand we will have to keep rehat, Japp Naam and engage in immense bhagti (meditation) of Gurbani. In other words we must follow the asools (rules) of our faith, Gurmat. For arguments sake, lets say other faiths can reach SachKhand, those people will still have to practice their respective religion to the max. They will have to follow the asools of their dharam (religion). As this is a Sikh forum and I think that we all agree that we have pyaar (love) for Guru Nanak Dev ji then lets follow bachans (instructions) of Guru Sahib in order to have darshan/salvation and ultimately SachKhand. We already have a clear cut pathway to SachKhand laid out by our Guru Sahiban! Gurmat is a surefire way to reach SachKhand. What will we gain from arguing whether other faiths can reach SachKhand? Only more division and doubts. If other faiths can reach SachKhand then so be it, but Guru Nanak Dev ji has already given us a path to SachKhand. So why not follow this path/religion of Guru Maharaj? Rabb Rakhe
  2. To say that all religions can achieve mukhti or sachkhand is not correct. For example, Islam does not beilieve in reincarnation or joons (being born into different life forms like animals or humans) so how can they get mukhti/salvation? For semitic religions like judaism, islam and christianity they all believe in the coming of a messiah/imam and heaven. Salvation for them is heaven. Salvation in Islam is centered around judgement day. There is no concept of mukhti of birth and death like Gurmat. Sachkhand has been exclusibely mentioned in Gurbani only. For Sikhs Sachkhand is the highest destination. Dhan Guru Nanak Dev ji received Naam in Sachkhand from Akal Purakh as mentioned in bani of bhai Gurdas ji. It is this naam that is now given through Panj Piare in Amrit Sanchar. Through Naam and Shabad Guru alon with rehat one can reach SachKhand. It is important to understand salvation/heaven/final destination of different religions. The concept that all religions lead to same destination sound sweet to the ear but in reality has no basis. Regardless if we are to advance spiritually in Gurmat than it is vital that we are keeping rehat and taking laha (profit) from Gurbani by reciting and reading arths (meanings). If we ourselves become bhagats of Guru Nanak Dev ji these questions will become clearer. Rabb Rakhe
  3. "An amritdhari can't have intimate relations with their non-amritdhari spouse...? If this is true, why?" This is question does not make sense because an amritdhari Sikh will surely have an amritdhari partner. A baptised Gursikh will only want to marry another baptised Gursikh. Why would a baptised Gursikh have intimate relations with a non-baptised Gursikh? This makes no-sense. If a baptised Gursikh is having physical relations with baptized or non-baptized perosn before marriage surely this is wrong. Dating before marriage has no place in Gurmat. Name me one great Gursikh in the past who encouraged or dated before marriage. It is a must that there is no-dating or any other sort of relation between Gursikhs before marriage. It is best to consult older Gursikhs for potential marriage partner. Traditionally in Sikhi, arranged marriages have been the tradition ever since the birth of Sikhi. Hopefully this tradition carries on! Satguru Mehar Karan! Our real husband is our preetam pyare sri Akal Purakh Waheguru ji. How can we get nearer to our husband lord? This is what a Gursikh should ask himself. Will indulging in kaam or kaam related thoughts take us closer or further from our preetam pyara? Surely indulging in the five fives, whether physically or mentally only takes us further from Akal Purakh and makes our path that much harder. Please read as much Gurbani as you can. Reading Gurbani with arths (meaning) will answer our questions. Please form an opinion first by consulting Gurbani yourself. What does Gurbani say about Kaam and the other chor(thieves) - krodh, lobh, moh and hankaar? Once one has a decent grasp of Gurbani and meanings many questions are answered. Also reading the jeevan of great Gursikhs of the past. From Guru Nanak Devi ji Maharaj to Sant Jarnail Singh ji and even now there are many Gursikhs who stay nirlep, unatached to this world and attached to Guru ji through naam simran, rehat and Gurbani. Dhan Dhan are such Gurskihs! I seek the dust of such Gursikhs who have destroyed the 5 thieves. Rabb Rakhe Satguru Mehar Karan
  4. "Just because a few "professors" and "Doctors" contributed to it, dosnt make it panthic." Great Gursikhs contributed to the SRM, you may refer to them as "professors and "doctors", but Gurmukhs such as Akali Kaur Singh ji, Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh ji, Sant Sangat Singh Kamaliya ji, Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha ji, Pandit Kartar Singh Dakha ji, Sant Teja Singh ji etc deserve the upmost respect. Here is a link to full list of people who contributed to formation of this maryada: http://sgpc.net/sikh...ntroduction.asp "If today a few "knowledgeable" folks" - bhai Vir Singh, bhai Kahn Singh, pandit Kartar Singh are not knowledgable? The above mentioned Gursikhs are not knowledgable? "Did Baba Deep Singh have no maryada, was Bhai Mani Singh without a maryada to follow." - of course Baba ji followed maryada. They followed perfect maryada because they had sangat of Guru Gobind Singh ji who is the embodiment of maryada. I don't understand the logic of this quote veer ji. "I dont ever recall Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji giving their seal to this "sri akaal takth sahib maryada". " - how can Guru Maharaj give seal to SRM when it was formed in early 1900's? This maryada was formed by Gurmukhs from all accorss India and even abroad. Nobody claims that this maryada was given 'seal' by Guru Hargobind Singh. Neverthless, the topic is about whether hindu rituals have any place in Gurmat. My opinion is that rituals such as havan were rejected by Guru Sahib. The real havan is to japp Naam. For Gumukhs shabad Guru is our jahaaj (ship) across this ocean of maya. Rabb Rakhe
  5. Quote:"According to respected maryada above, taksal and nihangs shouldn't be lighting jot with ghee" SRM - THE CODE OF SIKH CONDUCT AND CONVENTIONS Section Three CHAPTER IV Joining the congregation for understanding of and reflecting on Gurbani Anything except the afore-mentioned reverential ceremonies, for instance, such practices as the arti (Waving of a platter with burning lamps and incense set in it in vertical circular motion) with burning incense and lamps, offerings of eatables to Guru Granth Sahib , burning of lights, beating of gongs, etc., is contrary to gurmat (the Guru's way). However, for the perfuming of the place, the use of flowers, incense and scent is not barred. For light inside the room, oil or butter-oil lamps, candles, electric lamps, kerosene oil lamps, etc., may he lighted. Quote:"Jatha which is against ragmalla, should read ragmalla as well according to above maryada in its totality." SRM - Article XI a. The reading of the whole Guru Granth Sahib (intermittent or non-stop) may be concluded with the reading of Mundawani or the Rag Mala according to the convention traditionally observed at the concerned place. (Since there is a difference of opinion within the Panth on this issue, nobody should dare to write or print a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib excluding the Rag Mala). Quote:"they recently did that on decade long issue regarding nanaksahi vs bikrami calendar...they did a amazing job by striking an balance between puratan traditions and rational thought." N30Singh jeeo Are you referring to the deal reached with Avtar Singh Makkar and Harnam Singh? This decision was not made using proper protocol. Many people from the Nanakshahi were dissapointed in the decision to change the calendar especially without a proper debate.
  6. Great vichar by Sant Jawala Singh ji Harkhowale. I fully agree that through GurShabad one can mukhti/salvation.
  7. Bhai Hari Singh of Damdami Taksal spoke against Daljit Singh after he performed havan: http://www.youtube.com/embed/PCZhHLFjh4s Bhai Hari Singh has been with Taksal for long time.
  8. Sikh Rehat Maryada on hindu rituals: HE CODE OF SIKH CONDUCT AND CONVENTIONS Section Four CHAPTER X Living in Consonance with Guru's Tenets (Gurmat Rehni) Article XVI<a name="article16"> A Sikh's living, earning livelihood, thinking and conduct should accord with the Guru's tenets. The Guru's tenets are: a. Worship should be rendered only to the One Timeless Being and to no god or goddess. b. Regarding the ten Gurus, the Guru Granth Sahib and the ten Gurus' word alone as saviours and holy objects of veneration. c. Regarding ten Gurus as the effulgence of one light and one single entity. d. Not believing in caste or descent untouchabililty, Magic spells, incantation, omens, auspicious times, days and occasions, influence of stars, horoscopic dispositions, Shradh (ritual serving of food to priests for the salvation of ancestor on appointed days as per the lunar calendar), Ancestor worship, khiah (ritual serving of food to priests - Brahmins - on the lunar anniversaries of death of an ancestor) (Two words, shradh and khiah, occuring in this clause connote what appears to be the same thing - the ritual serving of food to the priests (Brahmins). The difference between the connotations of the two words is implicit in the dates on which the ritual is performed. The ritual of serving of food on the lunar anniversary of the death goes by the name khiah; whereas the ritual of serving food on the lunar date corresponding to the date of death during the period of the year designated shradhs is known as sharadh.) pind (offering of funeral barley cakes to the deceased's relatives), patal (ritual donating of food in the belief that that would satisfy the hunger of a departed soul), diva (the ceremony of keeping an oil lamp lit for 360 days after the death, in the belief that that lights the path of the deceased), ritual funeral acts. hom (lighting of ritual fire and pouring intermittently clarified butter, food grains etc. into it for propitiating gods for the fulfilment of a purpose), jag (religious ceremony involving presentation of oblations), tarpan (libation), sikha-sut (keeping a tuft of hair on the head and wearing thread), bhadan (shaving of head on the death of a parent), fasting on new or full moon or other days, wearing of frontal marks on forehead, wearing of thread, wearing of a necklace of the pieces of tulsi (A plant with medicinal properties, Bot, Ocimum sanctum.), stalk, veneration of any graves, of monuments erected to honour the memory of a deceased person or of cremation sites, idolatry and such like superstitious observances (Most, though not all, rituals and ritual or religious observances listed in this clause are hindu rituals and observances. The reason is that the old rituals and practices, continues to be observed by large numbers of Sikhs even after their conversion from their old to new faith and a large bulk of the Sikhs novices were Hindu converts. Another reason for this phenomenon was the strangle hold of the Brahmin priest on Hindus' secular and religious life which the Brahmin priests managed to maintain even on those leaving the Hindu religious fold, by the his astute mental dexterity and rare capacity for compromise. That the Sikh novitiates included a sizeable number of Muslims is shown by inclusion in this clause of the taboos as to the sanctity of graves, shirni etc.) ====================================================================================
  9. Here is Gurbani telling us the value of rituals like havan compared to Naam: If I were to cut my sareer (body) into tiny pieces and do havan by putting it (my body) into the fire. If I made my body and mind into the wood used for havan and burn them over and over (andin) in the fire, if i were to do these actions millions of times still they could never reach the level of Naam Vaah! Prof. Sahib Singh ji's arth(meaning) of this bani is amazing. Gurbani is our Guru and we bow our head to the bachans (intructions) of bani. Over and over gurbani tells us that Naam is the highest of actions. Guru Nanak dev ji rejected the janeu (sacred thread) of Hinduism. These rituals cannot take us to meet our beloved preetam pyara. Please use Gurbani to validate your claims.
  10. "Havan is not some cult thing or Hindu thing. It was there in Sikh tradition long back. Even guru gobind singh ji did havan when Shakti was worshipped for Khalsa. Havan is nothing but reciting of Gurbani like CHANDI DI VAAR,SUKHMANI SAHIB,URGARDANTI,CHANDI CHARITAR,ASA DI VAAR, JAPJI sAHIB,Complete ANAND SAHIB in Amritwela(before sunrise) by few Gursikhs infront of SGGSJI or lighting Jot." Guru Gobind Singh ji maharaj never performed havan or worshipped shakti. Our 10 Guru Sahiban worshipped sri Akal Purakh who has all shakti/power in his control. Why worship a part of Akal Purakh? Gurbani advises us to worship by japping naam. To jap Gurmantar is the highest karam as per Gurbani. Doing havan cannot and will never be equal to reciting Gurbani. Show me one pankti in Guru Granth Sahib ji that havan is the same as reciting Gurbani. Back up your claims with Gurbani. Gurbani is our touchstone. Rituals like havan are not part of Gurmat. Gurmat karams include reciting Gurbani, japping Gurmantar, seva such as langar, ishnan at amritvela............................................... Rabb Rakhe
  11. tribunenews.com: Chandigarh, October 4Sukhbir: Nothing wrong in having shares in PTC Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, admitting that he had shares in PTC channel, said he saw no wrong in it and none should have any objections. Punjab Pradesh Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh had yesterday released documents stating Orbit Resorts owned by Sukhbir had 99.9 per cent shares in PTC. He claimed Sukhbir had issued advertisements to his own company as Public Relations Minister. Party spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was not illegal to have a share in any company. There was nothing wrong in owning a media organisation, especially when it was being run on professional lines. Cheema said several Congress leaders like Venod Sharma and Rajiv Shukla owned television channels. He said in South India too leaders had their own media organisations. PTC channel 822 broadcast news, kirtan and gandh (bollywood videos). The news is a waste of time because it is biased towards Badal. It broadcast bollywood music videos, when kirtan is broadcast from sri Harmandar sahib in top right hand corner it says 'music'. This channel is owned by Badal parwar who run Akali Dal party. Both heads of party Parkash Singh and Sukhbir Singh are 'amritdhari', basically it is expected that since Akali party is a Sikh party therefore its leader should be a baptised Sikh. How can an 'amritdhari' Sukbir Singh Badal have the audacity to broadcast ilaahi kirtan from Darbar Sahib and also broadcast bollywood music videos on the same channel. This is because this parwar have no interest in Sikh Rehit and care more about maya, votes, leadership, power etc. SGPC hold broadcast rights to kirtan for Harmandar sahib. They make final decision on which channel can broadcast kirtan. As the current SGPC president, Avtar Singh Makkar is a former Akali Dal politician and friend of Badal its no wonder SGPC granted rights to kirtan to Badal channel PTC. These are unfortunately what the SGPC has come to. It is a slave of the leaders political parties. Shouldn't SGPC set up a free worldwide channel that broadcast 100% gurmat material? What message are Akali Dal Badal sending by broadcasting bollywood and kirtan on the same channel? They must receive money for broadcasting music videos. This shows how money-hungry these people are. For them, money is greater than kirtan, yet both father and son (parkash sing badal and sukhbir singh Badal) are 'baptised' (amritdhari) Sikhs. Satguru Mehar Karan
  12. GPS ji "I am now 100% convinced that sri Jaap sahib is rachna of sri Guru Gobind Singh ji." This comment by me was wrong. I have always believed sri Jaap sahib to be rachna of sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. However after doing research and looking at historical documents such as bhai Nand Lal ji's bani, my faith in this bani has increased. Jonny101 ji The original thread was longer and posts have been deleted. Thats why one of my responses doesn't make sense because somebody actually questioned the dohra so I had to defend the dohra also. Regardless, I am no scholar and was able to get relevant material to support Dasam banis, such as rehitname and bhai Nand Lal ji's bani, using sites such as serachgurbani.com. The internet has provided an easy way to access important documents. We should translate works of scholars such as bhai Harbans Singh ji into English. This would be a great way to do counter parchar of ant-dasam group. Also it is important to get a wide variety of sources which is easy since top scholars such as prof. Sahib Singh and bhai Ditt Singh as well as samprada/jatha/taksal mahapurakhs all believe and recited sri Dasam bani. Also it is important to use sources from non-afilliated(jatha/taksal/samprada) Gurmukhs because ant-dasam group dismiss anything from Taksal, AKJ etc. It is imnportant that Taksal, Akj, Samprdaia unite on this issue. It is vital that we counter anti-dasam parchar without resorting to name-calling but by providing solid arguments. Rabb Rakhe
  13. Good points Jonny101 ji I used Gurmukhs like bhai Vir Singh ji and prof. Sahib Singh ji as well as the SRM (SGPC Rehit Maryada). All Gurmukhs from the singh sabha era as well as sampdaia/taksal believed and recited sri Dasam Bani. SRM clearly states that sri Jaap sahib and sri Choupai sahib are mandatory banis for amrit sanchar. It is better to use Gurmukhs that are not directly affiliated with any jatha/samprada, above post has given good examples, as the anti-Dasam group tend to be anti-taksal,akj etc. They claim to 'follow' panthic maryada (SRM) which is hypocritical as SRM approves of Dasam banis. Recently more and more people are dismissing sri Dasam bani which is a huge mistake. It is important that we counter the anti-dasam group that we use Gurbani, Gurmat literature, Prominent Gurmukhs, Sikh History etc as a basis. Name-calling from both sides is wrong. Sri Dasam Granth should be debated on a panthic level by the top scholars from both sides to settle this issue once and for all, likewise Ragmala. Discussing these subjects on forums might create confusion for newcomers to Sikhi which would be unfortunate. Regardless as SRM accepts banis from sri Dasam bani, no-one has authority to remove these banis from nitnem, sri Rehras sahib or amrit sanchar. Dasam banis have been recited for 100's of years and this tradition will remain in majority of the panth.
  14. bhai khalistan-zindabaad jeeo Unfortunately it seems many are impressed with sarbjit singh's katha and have no problem with his anti-jaap sahib video. Many sangat may adopt his views on sri Dasam bani which is not good. Therefore if we are going to counter his parchar its important we produce a professional article. We should use Gurbani quotes to show the importance of simran. We should use quotes from Jaap sahib and other Dasam bani to prove that it is in accordance with Gurbani.......................etc Both sides tend to get heated in this debate and use language such as naastik, traitor, idol-worshipper and whatnot. This name-calling will get us nowhere and is not constructive. It will be easy to counter sarbjit singh's parchar by just using quotes from Gurbani and historical documents such as rehitname, bhai Nand Lal ji's bani etc I did respond to one e-mail on sikhphilosophy - http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/hard-talk/36858-professor-sarbjit-singh-dhunda.html Its dissapointing that so many individuals on this site so easily dismiss sri Jaap sahib, in the end they had to close the thread. This forum is anti-Dasam bani in general. I actually learned quite a lot when I responded because I had to do some research myself. I am now 100% convinced that sri Jaap sahib is rachna of sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. I've noticed that they have deleted some of my posts because this thread was 4-5 pages long. They have also posted another video of sarbjit singh right at the end of the thread! The admin obviously are biased towards Srabjit Singh. Anyway, I tried. Panth Nuu Chardi Kala ate Ekta Baksho Satguru ji
  15. I have to to say this hukkamnama is ajeeb (strange). Why do Sikhs have to report an incident to Akal Takht/SGPC first before they take action. How can a Gursikh stand by and let beadbi happen without taking any action? The respect for regime at Akal Takht is at a low point. Surely Gursikhs have upmost respect for sri Akal Takht, its the Sikh leaders who we have lost faith in. This all comes down to politicians getting involved in Sikh affairs. How can a politician have so much influence over Sikh affairs? The whole system need to be changed so that politicians of any party do not have influence when it comes to panthic Sikh issues. Unfortunately, I don't see how we can remove the politics from our highest committee SGPC and sri Akal Takht anytime soon.
  16. SGPC has 100's crore budget. SGPC should set up channels dedicated to parchar of Gurmat. SGPC does not need to 'sell' kirtan rights. Kirtan of sri Harmandar sahib is property of dhan Guru Ramdas ji. If I were president of SGPC I would set up channel right away that broadcasts for free live kirtan from Darbar sahib to as many stations around the world for no charge. This way sangat around the world sangat from around the world could take laha from ilaahi kirtan from sri Darbar sahib. Also I would like to add that if young Gursikhs were to watch kirtan and then afterwards on same channel bollywood music videos are being broadcast wouldn't this have a bad/confusing effect on that bacha(kid)? Rabb Rakhe
  17. Watching tv can be have bad effect on Gursikh jeevan if we watch unsuitable programmes. Maybe news and documentaries are suitable material. However if we are going to watch tv what better than to watch kirtan and sri Rehras sahib paath. You can now watch free on sky on channel 822 (ptc) kirtan and rehras from sri Darbar sahib. However this channel has made a huge mistake in showing anti-gurmat material(bollywood music videos) prior and straight after the kirtan. Shame on the producers and owners of the channel, these people are be-sharam (have no shame), kirtan and paath from sachkhand sri Darbar sahib is ilaahi (divine). These producers/owners of PTC are committing a great sin. Why not show live kirtan from darbar sahib all day, why not make a separate channel dedicated to live kirtan and Gurmat parchar? On the one hand they are promoting the filth that is bollywood and are also at the same time broadcasting kirtan. What logic is this? This should be brought up at panthic level and a hukkumnama should be issued agianst this channel. This is the responsibility of SGPC as they hold the rights to the kirtan. What do sangat think? I think by putting pressure on Akal Takht this problem can be resolved, also the coverage of kirtan should also remain free.
  18. We shouyd not be discussing a Gursikh's dhills (weaknesses)on a public forum. Nothing has been proved, just allegations from people who remain anonymous. If anybody has concerns they should discuss it directly with veer Sukhpreet Singh ji. At least this Gursikh is doing seva for the panth and went to Akal Takht each time they asked him. No wonder there is no ekta in the panth......................... Satguru Mehar Karan
  19. Bhai Sukhpreet Singh ji is not 'messing' with sangats head. He is a good eloquent speaker. If sangat has any questions why not ask him face to face. Gursikhs should be have a good knowledge of their dharam. Only an individual who has poor knowledge of Gurmat will be swayed by anti-gurmat speakers. Listening to vichars of Sukhpreet Singh they are according to Gurmat. Also veer Sukhpreet Singh is also writing literature countering RSS and literature relating to sikh history. We are in desperate need of new up to date literature on Gurmat. All other jathebandis and organisations are not producing enough literature to inspire the youth. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
  20. GPS ji It is important to seperate good parcharaks from bad parcharaks. For example sikh missionary college has produced good literature and so has SGPC. You cannot tar all these people with the same brush. Lets assess the individual and not use labels. This is what causes division in the panth. I agree, parcharaks such as sarbjit singh dhunda and kala afghana afilliated 'Sikhs' are causing confusion and damage in the panth with their attacks on sri Dasam bani. However, Sikhs from SGPC and missionary college support Dasam bani, Hazur Sahib etc. We must distinguish the good from the bad.
  21. "Who cares? it's a load of nonsense. It looks nice, it's decrotive. At the end of the day Gurbani takes presedence over everything and that should be our main concern." Sat Bachan ji Even if these organisations(illuminati) exist they do not concern a Gursikh. A Gursikh's life is centered around sangat and bani. The world does not concern a Gursikh. The world, governments, leaders, organisations are temporary. All these will perish, but Akal Purakh is Atal (immovable/permanent). The world is a slave to money, family, wealth, panj chor - kaam, krodh, lobh, moh, ahankar........................... Rare are those fortunate ones who focus their mind on God. Rabb Rakhe
  22. The screening is not the problem, nobody is against screening of the turban. It is the removing and touching of the turban that we are against. Hand held scanners and other devices can be used for screening. The awareness day was not solely for airport issue but the importance of turban for Sikhs in general.
  23. One problem that arises is that if researchers find evidence that goes against a samparda or jatha they reject it. Will a jathebandi or samparda accept evidence if it goes against a previous asool? This is a stumbling block. Samparda's will use word misssionary/naastik and missionaries will use word like brahmin/hindu, yet both sides have valid points. Both sides need to come together, sit down and do veechar as per Gurmat.
  24. A committee needs to be made to do research into puratan saroops and gutka's in order to find correct paath and spellings, surely good research will answer these questions. Before SGPC had good researchers who produced good literature on Gurmat and sikh history, unfortunately this imstitution is now asleep. Now SGPC has members that will use corrupt means to gain votes, what hope is there that SGPC will provide these answers?
  25. How can the government, who has most debt of all guarantee our debt? We are living in strange times, greed has effected poor to the rich. Unless we come in to the sharan (protection) of Satguru ji we cannot escape the panj chor (5 thieves).
