  1. Baba Foosha in China? That's awesome! Love that.
  2. The most you can do is keep your own house in order. Be a beacon in these turbulent times, and when (or if) someone seeks you out for help do your very best to help them.
  3. An artistic approach with some actual substance, lest someone comes up with an abstract, pretentious mess which might be hugely amusing for the likes of me, but won't help to get our message out. :giggle: I've not seen any of Babbu Mann's films but am I right in saying he made something called "Hero Hitler"? :wow: What... how... does one in this modern, connected world come up with something like that? There are no words. :stupidme:
  4. They're also human beings with hearts and minds like the rest of us, who feel an affinity for the Sikh faith like us. I'd be lying if I said I was totally on-board with the homosexual manifesto (a bit dramatic but :lol2: ), but a bit of understanding from where they're coming from would be nice. Although a gay Anand Karaj is pushing it a bit far for my tastes.
  5. Turn off the TV? A bit drastic isn't it? :biggrin2: Just listen to what these Singhs have to say, and formulate your own ideas according to that. They obviously won't be coming out with radically different viewpoints to other Sikhs I hope, just coloured slightly according to their own experiences.
  6. Don't some people use a mala to keep count of how many jaaps they've done? Surely there's nothing wrong with that? :blink2:
  7. Just make sure it's nothing like this, else you'll get done for copyright!
  8. That's it! It IS about accumulating wealth for themselves and their future generations and living in luxury. Religion is the 'front' that is used to galvanise the little people.
  9. I completely agree. I wouldn't be surprised if there's some Sikhs who aren't aware of the 'no idolatry' rule for Sikhs. I do think these basics need to be explained to the general sangat whenever there are huge diwaans and get-togethers in our Gurghars. The assumption that most people are aware of these issues is a rather dangerous one IMO. Pictures for admiration and general interest, YES. Pictures for worship, NO.
  10. You seem like a playa with a conscience. You can't have a conscience in the old playa game.
  11. I think people that do bow to photos of Guru Sahibs (I don't bow, but I do have pictures of Guru Sahibs in my house because I like them) aren't lowering their heads to a particular accuracy of likeness, but more about what the likeness represents in terms of everything Guru Sahibs were and stood for. At least I hope that's how they see things. I'd hate to think someone is waving some toof in-front of a picture of our Gurus, because just no better than idol worship. Isn't it?
  12. I completely agree with all of the above. Finding the right person (someone we connect with on an emotional level) is so very difficult these days. A few moments with the right person is wonderful. But 3 years? That can't be dismissed so quickly. But then the father is also absolutely correct, and I respect him for his stance on the issue. Too many parents these days are weak-willed and unable to handle their households, and the father has to take into account many considerations and points of view before making a decision.
  13. It's a fine line, but if navigated carefully I believe it can help to enhance the appreciation of certain things being explained. You just have to think back to Guru Sahib's darbar when his kavis were producing their works, etc., and it seems like such a hub of creativity and vibrance. Sadly I think this aspect of Sikhi is considered unimportant by most of these one-track minded youth, and I'm afraid to say any such nuance will be lost to the ages, replaced by a shariat vibe where there's only black and white, and no room for self-expression that doesn't contradict Guru Sahib's teachings and spirit of conduct.
  14. This is what I'm trying to get my head around. Some Muslims scholars say Islam doesn't allow this kind of carry-on, whilst others say it's all fair game. Yet you meet some decent Muslims and they're as abhorred by this nonsense as much as any right-minded person. You have to wonder whether it's just dirty men doing horrible things without any link to religion.
  15. You did right, bro. Like it or not some people need a beating when they shoot their mouth off. But also you just gotta learn to pick and choose those fights. This time your teachers are being sympathetic, but the next time they might think you're enjoying smashing noses, and you might lose that sympathy (and the benefit of the doubt). It's an English colloquial term, i.e. "He was teasing me about my pagh". "Taking the mick" is the equivalent of "Mocking". Singh wasn't wired up like an FBI informant, lol. :biggrin2:
  16. SAS are doing great seva. But the problem is the very people SAS needs to reach out to with these warnings DON'T attend the gurdwara!
  17. Yup, aren't andhe used to make things rise? Barfi and other sweets aren't of that variety, are they?
  18. Anda in barfi? Why would anyone do that?
  19. Open your laptop and ensure you sprinkle jal over the keys and screen. I'm not being funny. If you want to go the whole way then you can't be hesitant about following full maryada.
  20. It's a free country, they can do... oh right, I forgot. It's NOT a free country, not for Sikhs anyway.
  21. I bet any Muslim listening to the above audio would've been gnashing their teeth in anger, considering they don't believe in the transmigration of the soul and all that.
  22. Can anyone summarise what was being discussed? I'm afraid the Urdu being spoken (is it Urdu?) went right over my head apart from a few bits here of there.
  23. The sad thing is parents of white kids would never make their offspring feel low about something as superficial as height. It's all about empowering the child to be confident in their own skin. Our lot can accumulate huge houses and cars, but the mindset is still stuck in 1950s Panjab.
