  1. This is the work of evill and twisted people. Waheguru does not dictate these tragedies, of course he is the doer because it is his doing that gives us the ability to commit these horrendous acts. BUT that does NOT mean we hold him responsible. I don't understand why people get confused with this and can't get their heads around it. Only five and myself discussed this and explained it in another thread. Anyway, I know we don't believe in such concepts of 'Hell'' as in christianity, but at times like this I certainly wish and hope that such a 'Hell'' does exist and the killer rots and suffers in there for eternity !!
  2. No gurbani quotes - OK does this prove someone's smart ?? NO- I don't think so. We can all quote, but do we really understand the message in a tuk ? Anyway, as this thread is just going to get awkward responses because OP insists on strict criteria, then I will give my few cents here. What is important about the whole of gurbani is that it tells you to use your common sense and logic. It doesn't say do this or do that, but it simply tells you what to expect if you do this or do that. The whole purpose is that it makes you think and use your God- given brain!!! Therefore, if A gives to C via B, and B keeps or pockets the money. Then how the hell can A be blamed and punished for B's actions ???? If you come across a situation where you need to make a choice to give or not, then you should go with your instinct and desire to give. There is no point in giving, if it is really hurting you. For example, I know of some businessmen who like to prove and show that they give generously and they do go and actually show this. BUT it hurts them to give, so in the back of their minds they plan another scam in their business to get the same amount of money back to them. In this instance they give with one hand and take back more with the other !!!! If we see a homeless tramp outside on the street asking for a few dollars or pounds, then what do you do ?? First, remember that he has asked, so you have the choice of saying No. Now, there will be different responses by different people for different reasons.- 1) Will say 'No, i don't have any'' even though they do, but they have lied for an excuse and just can't be bothered. 2) Will say 'later or not yet'' because they cannot be bothered to put their hands in their pockets. - they are not fibbing, but will probably forget ad hope the tramp forgets- Still better than no1 answer though. 3) Will just ignore them blindly and leave the tramp to feel sorry for asking ! - IGNORANCE is NOT Gurmat!! 4) Will swear at them or tell them to get a job or make some other remark OR most commonly REFUSE because they believe the tramp will only purchase some tobacco or liquor instead of food !! (does this give you the right to assume and dictate ??) - This is the same as refusing to give to A, because you have no control on what A will do with the money.ie.. whether it will go to B or C, but is that reall your issue ?? 5) You will get the kind fellow who wll stop and dig in and give whatever change or few dollars they have. 6) You will get the person that has no change because they only have credit/debit card, but they still feel guilty and they have time to buy the tramp some food from a store a few footsteps away. This is what they do.... They purchase a meal for the tramp and give it to him. Out of ALL the above, it is apparent that only 5 and 6 are the true gurmat reactions and attitudes, but sadly very few of us fall into this category. You can ALL decide for yourself now, what is the best choice to make, even if you have always been a number 1 to 4, but simply not realised the consequences of your approach. I know for a fact that we have many members, if they are honest enough on here that respond with 1 to 4, because if one stands next to a homeless and watches all the different respones, then 1 to 4 will be the majority by far. Nex time, maybe we should all just take a moment to think exactly why we give a different response to 5 and 6
  3. He really feels betrayed by sacha patshaa. When I say really feels, I mean that no matter what anyone says he knows you won't understand. Only he knows how much ''kamai'' he has done and shown to our Waheguru. When something can hit a person this bad, they can easily lose it, lose all faith, lose all respect, lose dignity, and completely lose love for akaal purakh. What you should do in this situation is prove to him that you will listen in the meantime while waiting for medical referral. He needs to be reassured that he has NOT lost everything, and you are there to care even if he feels the lord doesn't anymore. We ALL know the lord cares and it is all his hukam, but he is NOT going to be listening or be believing any of that with his current state of mind. So even trying to explain hukam may make him worse. You really need to give him space and some time to listen and let him express his feelings calmly. In most cases, they have these feelings that they can only express in anger and it is these underlying thoughts he has that he needs to bring out to someone close in a calm environment. I hope all goes well, because I lost a dear young friend who commit suicide many years ago in a similar situation. My regret is that I should have listened and been there.

    Converting

Of course !!!! You should never rush into anything, but just let it come and happen with the natural flow.
  5. I would get him to see a doctor about this condition more soon than anything. I don't think the worry should be about seeing the panj or his dharam more than gettting his medical condition addressed. He is clinically not in a suitable state of mind and is having episodes of bipolar disorder which can get quite serious. So before any harm is done, I you would personally see that you take him to get his condition assessed. The welfare of his own health is th utmost priority at the moment, not the pesh or sacrilage.

    Converting

In general, converts are mostly BETTER followers than the ones born into sikhi. They are generally better and more gurmat than the punjabis who follow sikhi because their parents are and the parents advise or order them to. We have more punjabis that deface true sikhi than ones who keep it pure. We shouldn't be scaring off people that want to convert because they mostly do a better jiob than fellow sikhs that are born into the faith.

    Converting

There is no problem or issue with being a sikh BUT you can't have it both ways, meaning you can't be practicing or believing in islam and sikhism as well! Below is part of the offical rehat guidelines that defines a sikh- Article I – Definition of Sikh Any human being who faithfully believes in: • One Immortal Being • Ten Gurus, from Guru Nanak Dev to Guru Gobind Singh • The Guru Granth Sahib • The utterances and teachings of the ten Gurus • The baptism bequeathed by the tenth Guru, and who does NOT owe allegiance to any other religion, is a Sikh.
  8. Well Said jangalda ji. The OP 'help222' can be reassuored that it is no big deal. God has given you the tools and there is no harm in checking that they are in working order ! It is perfectly normal to do that and also perfectly normal to feel guilt. Your human and to reproduce you need your working tools. As long as you don't make it an obsession or get into porn, hookers, strip bars..etc.. then there is nothing wrong having some occasional play time for yourself. You will NOT get paap or sin for it, but being a better sikh you should develop the strength to overide and eradicate the 'urge'.
  9. No!!!! You can't talk to jews either but muslims are ok! Just joking,..there is nothing that I know that condemns you from 'talking' to anyone.
  10. Keep the phone in your pocket and only take it out when you want to make or receive call. That way you won't take it out for porn. Anyway- it's crazy why you are roaming data in the khet anyway. Don't you pay extra for data and internet ? What is the point ? I had the latest cell phones for 20 years now and since last year, I actually don't carry one. When I went into deep simran and an awakening, my whole lifestyle changed. I don't wear a watch(even though I have a collection worth 10 grand of watches!!), and I don't keep a cell phone any longer, except a simple one for emergencies when I am out and away from family. My life is so much better and easier without constantly looking at my watch and phone. I don't get bored anymore, if I feel I have nothing to do then I do simple quite 'Naam jap' If you did this while out on the khet, then porn, sex, drugs would not come near your mind.
  11. Sikhs were a great help in both world wars. Infact, the sikhs were on the battlefield front line most of the time. The one time they were not put at the front, the german army pushed and pushed in for a a whole week until the sikhs were brought in and then saw the germans moving back within ONE Day!!! Countries like Burma would not have been won over if it wasn't for the sikhs. My grandfather was a famous sikh war veteran. It was because of his loyal services to the british army that he was welcomed and allowed to bring all family to reside in UK in the early 50's.
  12. Yes, it is the capabilitiy in our own hands to decide the next steps infront of us. Let's say you are walking on your way to work and you see an old man struggling to change his car tire. You have the choice to go and help kindly, whilst knowing you will be late for work OR you can ignore or say something like 'i'm in a hurry- i'm sorry' This is the free will that you have to make the choice. The outcome will be different for each choice in terms of good or bad karma for instance. But the actual factor that governs your ability and gives you the room to manouvre is the 'HUKAM'. I would say that all actions and decisions, no matter who makes them, they ALL come under the umbrella of Hukam. I am NOT in any way saying that your free will can overide or oppose hukam, far from it. It's just that it is what helps pave the way for future steps and encounters. I hope you can see what I mean.
  13. Well free-will in its true sense would mean that there is no higher being controlling anything. The above is not what I was saying. I was still saying that hukam is the real overall governer and controller, yet a human may feel like they are in control!
  14. I'm not too sure exactly what you mean ? Free-will is the capablilty that is given to you to help pave your conduct with the way you choose. This can be gurmat or manmat according to your steps. If it doesn't sound right or you don't think so, then please explain.
  15. The problem with a lot of the younger new sikhs is that they find it quite a task to get their head around hukam and free will. They will question what falls under the banner of hukam and what falls under free-will???? Free-will is the capability given to us to help us pave the path in front. What we have to remember is that we can maximise what 'we want' to happen with our free will, but at the end ONLY the Hukam will dominate. It is probably easier to imagine our limited free will coming under the banner of Hukam. Therefore it is the divine will of Hukam that actually governs our free-will. We may think that we are governing and controlling it, but in effect only the Lord does. It is again another play of the maya illusion where our haumai comes in. We may think me, me, it's me doing it,- BUT it is ALL HIM.
  16. Lovely, ....he.he.ey.heey.hahaahaaahaa. Maybe you should both get married and move in the middle or settle half way !!! like Belgium !!!! That way you will be the same distance from punjab as she is from Canada. Balle.. balle..what a plot.. what a movie story line.

That's correct, they can be beneficial, especially when trying to teach kids. However, we should also teach and clarify that you don't worship them and it is just a reminder to help you focus. We should respect them and this is what the kids should be taught. Putting divas infront or thoof is not gurmat, so the ones that insist on doing this are sadly sending out wrong messages to the young generation.

If you ask the mass majority who meditate, then most popular picture or portrait that comes to their mind is Sobha Singh's Guru Nanak Dev ji. -This is a fact and you may check with todays artists ( where I got this from) There is No Right or Wrong. Whatever one feels comfortable with, then there is no stopping you. If you need portrait, then so be- If you need gurbani calligraphy with the words 'waheguru' or 'ek onkar' or otherwise, then so be aswell. The method one uses should not be condemned or discouraged.
  19. It is ALL is Hukam!!! Why are people worried ? Whatever natural disaster happens, however many people get killed, it is all our fault as man for interrupting the cycles of creation. The creator has to keep his creation in balance and harmony somehow, and if that means destruction, then so be it ! Instead of worrying and thinking about precautions,I would actually spend that time 'japping the naam'- because that is the only belonging that will survive and go with you.

Is this bipran ki reet conversation going to go towards the faults of having images or pictures because they overlap idol worship and all that ? Well, I'm sure no sikhs worship the pictures, but we respect them and would not place them lower than another picture of something else in our homes. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing worng with using one of this pictures to help you focus on the ONE AKAAL PURAKH. Infact in gurbani it advises us to do this to help meditate- ang 864 SGGSji, Guru Arjan Dev ji ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥ Gur kī mūraṯ man mėh ḏẖi▫ān. Meditate on the image of the Guru within your mind
  21. ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਲੇਖੈ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਣਾਸੁ ॥ Lekẖā ho▫e ṯa likī▫ai lekẖai ho▫e viṇās. If you try to write an account of this, you will surely finish yourself before you finish writing it. trying some gurmukhi fonts !
  22. OK, if you did advanced chemistry, then you would know that things called Aldehydes and Ketones can go further to make alcohol or ethanol for starters. This is exactly what happens inside your body when it is processing all the different chemicals from your diet!!!
  23. The skin of the goat that has jatka performed on it at hazoor sahib, is later used for tabla skin !!
  24. Exactly!!!! Is a true sikh going to refuse a life saving injection because your skin and needle needs to be sterilized with rubbing an alcohol swab ? -NO, I don't think so. - So there is nothing wrong with spraying as long as it doesn't physically affect anyone!
