  1. cologne !!!! :nono: you don't have to shave to use cologne :excited:
  2. Jesus died for the peoples sins !! But he didn't top himself did he ?
  3. This is typical punjabi louts ! They want to have fun and screw around with girls, date, get oral sex in the car, look at porn........and then when it comes to getting married..-They want a nice sensible virgin who has not ever snogged anyone let alone sleep with them !!!
  4. This alcohol argument is ridiculous !!! It's the sort of rubbish on muslim forums. Alcohol consumption is prohibited in sikhism, the alcohol in your perfume, aftershave, the small amounts used as preservative in thousands of daily goods like foods, detergents, washes..etc.. These very tiny amounts are what stop your food from decaying and they have absolutely no effect or crossing in ''The Blood-Brain barrier''- which the scientists will know, is how the nasha effect happens !! Wicked Warriors comment above is bang on, because our bodies break down things called aldehydes and ketones to produce bioligical alcohol !! Does anyone know that the most effective cold medicines contain alcohol such as cough mixtures. The easiest and most effective way to kill household germs is simple alcohol. Most effective way of cleaning any crap in your electrical appliances is ''isopropyl alcohol'' and for cleaning grease of almost anything!!! BUT if an <banned word filter activated> drank this, they would soon be dead ! If others want to continue on this stupid thread, then they should go to a paki forum, because they love this topic.
  5. i really don't think God get's angry or has anger issues! He doesn't inflict pain or hurt to us. The pain is just what we feel, but it is mostly self inflicted.
  6. No, as long as you have the same partner it does not matter.
  7. This is about someone being shy from a girl. It is NOT about sikhism, so I don't know why the counsellers are on here !!! If she makes you feel awkward then just tell her ''look, your nice, we can be friends but NO hanky panky !'' She will get the idea. It is not nice to be negative towards someone if they are approaching you with completely good intentions.-THIS IS BAD for your KARMA'' Do NOT hurt others with intent , she has a heart as well !!
  8. One thing that I have definitely noticed since moving to Canada from UK is that the canadians are very untidy and messy. Maye because there houses are so big, that they can afford to be a little relaxed when it comes to tidying up,-but in general the standard is lower than england. In england our houses are quite small and room is tight, therefore keeping them tidy is necessary since they get messy so easily due to the small size.
  9. I think it's good to compare the translations of SGGS to yourself and aid in your own progress. Worth checking srigranth.org, gurbani 101and search gurbani for translations. There are many others out there but some have more errors than others. I remember when I started, it took me a while to determine exactly what 'sochee soch na hovee, je sochee lakvaar' really meant because some translations said ' even by thinking(soch) he cannot be reduced to thought, even by thinking hundreds of thousands of times' AND some said '' Even by bathing thousands of times, mind cannot become more pure'' After much research, I came to the conclusion that 'sochae' means to bath in gurbani, but we say 'to think' in punjabi. There are some words that are used for different meanings in our spoken punjabi compared to their real gurmukhi and gurbani meanings. Then I started to use the above as a reference tool in finding reliable sites! For more reading I would look at gurbani.org and other sikh sites with articles that are explained. I also find that doing more simran gives you intuiton on many areas of understanding and it just comes naturally. Then if you find difficulty in understanding something, you can always ask on a forum!!!
  10. I know it's sad when they think that satguru is a baba of some dera. It happened to some cousins of mine because some dera follower at school had a picture of their baba from the sect. She kept saying that he is the satguru and if they keep his picture they will pass their exams.!! You know kids, they just wanna pass and they thought well she's a sikh not a muslim. (well they all come across as sikhs, but what they do is NOT sikhism) Anyway, my uncle later found out and the girls mother had even been talking to the kids saying she will take them to this 'satguru'... WHAT!!! ... I HIT the roof when I heard, it is a good job I didn't have a gun!! :nono:
  11. I agree, you should try and force yourself with understanding at the same time as studying or looking into it. But, we have to be careful not to scare the young youth away that are trying to find the ropes. To tell them that a lot of studying, understanding and contemplation is required is more likely to scare them away. Instead they need to be assured that if they 'embrace' the gurbani, then the understanding can follow with his grace. It is easy to take the wrong path and misguide yourself. How can we simplify it for the youth of today, without frightening them away ?
  12. Studying and Understanding comes before the contemplating. It is difficult to contemplate without understanding. We should attempt to dedicate the time to study and Understand before we dedicate our selves to contemplate.
  13. Let's not start blowing our own bajhas (trumpets) !! :lol2: But Yes, we are different, we resepct and enjoy this festive season. I always had presents when I was a kid and my kids always get them. Unlike some other cultures, who don't acknowledge they are in a foreign culture, we look at things more realistically. If all the christians are treating each other, their familes and paying visits to as much family, Then- why can't we, is what we say. Afterall, we are all given holidays by the state regardless of our faiths, so we should embrace this time.
  14. Why only mention AKJ ? Is this an AKJ forum ? OR are they the majority on here ?? What about all the others ?
  15. Get back to the topic. There should be more studying done of shabads from self and not just listening to others. There should be more posts with sangat contributing to their personal interpretions of gurbani. Bani is interpreted on a few levels.- one is the root message and second is the pesonal message that may be different for each of us. The root message is universal and should be shared amongst sangat. This is a good thread by the op, but there is too much of 'who does what' being talked about.
  16. I too have learnt myself. Perhaps you could give some tips on suitable style and how it's done. Also, I would like to know what the most popular length is, because I'm sure over here they keep a longer length turban compared to the singhs in UK. So, what length is more popular ?
  17. Buy a pistol and play target practice in the garden. :excited:
  18. Are you saying some nihangs are posessed ??? :stupidme: :stupidme:
  19. No it' not offensive. ..don't be silly !! It's offensive to even think what your thinking !!!!! If a sikh does not wish to accept, he will KINDLY decline in a very nice and polite manner. Sikhs are not like jeohavas, we do NOT get offended. Only if you mistake us for hindu or muslim.
  20. You don't have to wear a white kachera. Back in the day in India when everything was handwashed, people wore white because when it became soiled or dirty it was easily visible. This is the reason for white kacheras.
  21. For muslims and some other cultures it might be considered sorrow and evil, but we are sikhs. Sikhs are NOT supposed to follow cultural superstitions like asking the pandit what date to set your marriage, or light diva's for so many days after someone has died...etc...-ALL CRAP according to sikh. Does anyone on here honestly think that If Guru Nanakji saw you wearing a black turban, he would say take it off, you shouldn't wear that.!!!! RUBBISH- just like hindus claim that a certain day is more auspicious than another. ALL the colours are visible to us and given equally by the creator. There would be no black animals or things in nature if black was so bad.!!! Wear what the hell you want, wearing a turban is more important and not the colour or pattern.
  22. If your married to your first cousi, then you are muslim.!!!!
  23. I totally agree !!! Too many sikhs have gone away from the real root and core, and just don't know what they are doing!!!
  24. A Sikh Does not believe in this stuff. -full stop. Yes there are many weak people out there that fall for this stuff and start seeing exorcists and pandits or what have you. But if a sikh ever doubts that someone may have cursed him or done some voodoo crap, then that sikh should just adhere to the gurbani abit more and have the utmost faith in it. -Then nothing can come near, the sikh becomes untouchable by these fallacies.
  25. I don't know what the problem is everytime I post some gurmukhi, but it ruins the conversation when it doesn't show up. This is more than a nuisance for a sikh forum. I wish something would be done soon.
