  1. I'll say it plainly...first thing Sikh men need to stop being big girls blouses.....today many are so demasculinised that it is no wonder that girls run off with some sleazy character. The pupoo/ pajama types have too much influence and this should be abruptly ended as it is one of teh root causes of people attacking Sikhs. They do it because they know they can get away with it. As for the girls....they need a strong Sikh female intellectual movement....but that seems very unlikely at least going by the average Sikh girl I've met. Its like an African female friend of my told me once..."Our feminism is different from white feminism....we have lots of other issues to deal with and aren't as obsessed with 'sexual freedom' like white girls are. We face oppression by men in general and the added business of overall oppression of black people (men and women) by white supremiscists" Sadly the average bimbo from a Sikh background is an emotionally driven, low IQ type who thinks being able to dance about and sh4g anyone they want some sort of aspiration/achievement. Maybe Sikh guys should go to another gene pool and try to get more clever girls in the community....just a suggestion....<Awaits Kaurageous outburst!> Well said. :WW: I personally don't mind dealing with clever women from other communites. <_< And I doubt kaurageous (is this a group?) will comment on your post since they don't deal with issues invloving with muslim community. "No comment" - Kaurageous Or, "you don't know how is it to be a sikh girl" - Kaurageous :D
  2. First, I'm not a gurmukh. Second, I believe everyone should feel comfortable in gurdwara from all walks of life. And I do agree that Sant ji wouldn't want his picture there. IMHO, the only pictures of individuals should be of Gurus. pictures of sikh gurus????? I doubt they will want pictures of themselves in general.
  3. we? who's we? I am ready for war when needed.
  4. Well said. Edit: I think you can add Toronto to your list of "tough" punjabis (not saying sikhs since people here don't consider monay as sikhs) as well.
  5. I don't celebrate it, but respect it though.
  6. Yes, in a way I agree that it is important, but I think Sikhs put too much emphasis on kesh and forget the other aspects what being a sikh is all about. Sikhi doesn't live & die on kesh. Kesh is just one of many factors of being a "true" sikh aka "gursikh". I hate it when people judge others based on kesh instead of other things what one makes a "sikh". Also history has shown that ones with no kesh (monay) weren't treated like crap by "sikhs" instead was accepted as part of sikh community as well. I am in.
  7. Thank you guys for falling in my trap! My question wasn't even supposed to be taken seriously. I just simply repeated B4ND4 question except I turn the table around and directed my question towards non-monay. I find it funny how defensive people got here and started to attack me and even challenge me to a debate while no one said anything to B4ND4 and his humorous question. Once again, y'all got exposed! I hope all the kids are reading this thread and seeing the hypocrisy being demonstrated by their older brothers and sisters here. Good day to y'all!
  8. Everybody got their own reason. Besides, I never got a credible answer of why keeping kesh is so important to us humans.
  9. Keshdhari are equal to Amritdhari? Remember without taking amrit, turban and other K's aren't blessed by guru ji. So in other words, wearing 5 k's without taking amrit is useless unless you take amrit first.
  10. Cool. I will try to watch this documentary on TV, but I really hope someone post the documentary on youtube though.
  11. So what would be the minimum requirement to be worthy enough to be called "Sikh"?
  12. More than three quarters of Queens' Sikh students say they have been harassed in school because of their religious identity, a new survey has found. About 200 Sikh students, most of them from Richmond Hill and Flushing - neighborhoods with large South Asian populations - were questioned over the last six months by the Sikh Coalition advocacy group. "When I was walking home from the subway, somebody asked me if I was a terrorist," one respondent said. "I used to wear a turban when I was small," another said. "People would say things like 'Get out of my country!'" City officials and advocates this week demanded that Education Department officials do more to protect Sikh students following an attack last week on a Sikh student at Newtown High School. Classmates of Harpaal Vacher, a 15-year-old Sikh boy, cut off his hair in a school bathroom. Vacher said he used to have waist-length hair; the attack left it at shoulder length. The alleged attackers, Waqas Ali, 15, and Umair Ahmed, 17, both Muslim Pakistani immigrants, were arrested and charged with unlawful imprisonment, coercion, menacing and aggravated harassment. The Police Department hate crimes unit launched an investigation. Police sources said the suspects explained that they cut Vacher's hair in retaliation for a "Yo Mama" taunt. Sikhs are required by religious law to keep their hair long and to wear turbans as a symbol of their faith. "Losing one's hair is like losing one's head," said Sikh Coalition executive director Amardeep Singh. Meanwhile, the survey found that two out of five Sikh children reported being physically harassed for wearing turbans. Close to a third of those who complained to school officials said that they never got any help. The survey also found that of those students who were harassed, nearly 60% said it was because they are Punjabi or South Asian, and that nearly 20% of the students polled had been told they look like terrorists. Nearly 84% of the students said educating their classmates about their religion by having someone "come to your classroom to talk about Sikhism" would be helpful. "Starting from the bottom," said City Councilman Robert Jackson (D-Manhattan), "we need to cultivate cultural and religious sensitivity among students and staff." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.nydailynews.com/boroughs/queens...ikh_kids-1.html
  13. I see where you're coming from. I take a lot of pride of being Canadian and also hate how some Canadians complain about Canada without doing anything about it.
  14. Believe it or not, but Barack Obama said he will invade Pakistan if he becomes president. So USA invading Pakistan isn't outta of question here.

Hold up! Punkabi Link, you know you my brotha from another motha's sister's second cousin, BUT I think you should strongly reconsider what you're saying!!!! Bani and ardaas are very, very powerful things! Don't underestimate them, please! I feel like you've pierced my heart with what you've written!! :ysad: I am sorry bro, I just realize my previous post didn't come up right. All I am trying to say is the bani alone isn't always the solution to solving every issue. There is nothing wrong of asking help from other sources as well. That is what I am trying to say here. PL If I recall correctly, I often have difficulties with your views which minimize the importance of kes for a sikh...so just wanted to take this rare opportunity to let you know that i respect your humility here bro. nicely done. Thanks!
  16. She has a Sikh background and takes her kids to Gurdwara, as well as church, she married a methodist, but is exposing her kids to both faiths, that surely beats out alot of "so-called" Sikhs that don't bother teaching their kids anything, completely appropriate that Sikhchic does an article on her, she is from Sikh background and has accomplished something very few people in our community have, and yet they think they can sit atop their ivory tower because they're more "sikh" than she is, completely idiotic! Welcome to Sikhsangat.com
  17. Don't worry about it. Just send a note to website and hopefully they will do something about it.

kids help line? yea right dude, thats a joke. bani is a sikh's helpline bro. hey bro, where do u live? wat city? and how old are you? oh, and how many people are bullying you? like others have posted. first try and talk to them, but be aggressive, its ok to angery. but if they dont listen, and keep bullying you, dude, kick their a$$!!! Yeah, you’re right. Bani will give the kid super powers to deal with this issue like the same way how Sikh warriors in the past do bani instead of fighting battles. Give your head a shake, sir! There is nothing wrong of getting help from people who are professional of dealing with bullying. huh? bani is what made them warriors. Are you questioning the power of bani? so you think bani will do nothing? The warriors in the past fought battles because of bani. and here u roll your eyes over the mention of bani. Why dont we just start calling helpline's instead of just doing ardaas to guru maharaj Who did our guru's call when ever they were in a tight spot, or needed advice. i wonder which hot line they used..... I think your the one who needs a good head shaking. Bani is guru maharaj's hotline.....call anytime you want, for anything you want.... Okay buddy, I don't want get into a flame war, so all I am going to say that you need wake up and see bani isn't the solution for everything in the real world. Is doing ardaas going to help you fight? Does it give physical strength to fight back? You know sikh warriors also trained before going into battles. Bani alone doesn't solve everything. I like said before, there is FREE professional help for the kid if he/she wants better advice instead of just asking us.

Didn't Guru Gobind Singh say something like, "when all peaceful options have failed, then it is righteous to raise a sword"? I am NOT saying you should use violence to fight back, but if violence is the only option left, then I guess you have to fight. I got bullied once when I was a kid, and I solve the problem by violence. It really depends what type of environment you live in though. But this day and age, there are a lot of resources to help kids who are getting bullied at school unlike back of my days where there was hardly any help at all. If you're from Canada, then call Kids help phone. Their phone number is 1-800-668-6868. They help kids who are getting bullied at school. Here's their website: http://kidshelp.sympatico.ca/
