  1. r singh where can i learn more about the "original" kartarpuri bir (in english pref) what old birs (copies) of the damdama bir are left and how old r they?
  2. Hey all Are there any good rensavaes/akj keertan/anything special coming up in the near future in Park Ave or Havelock Road Gurdwara Southall? If I came in on a random Sat nite then what kind of stuff would be going in (its a long trek but I need 2 get more sangat....n my local gurdwara is usually kinda empty) WJKK WJKF
  3. r singh i see wat ur saying no one has really given me any info on the "there was a different kartarpuri bir" theory........if u could explain it in alot more detail i would be happy :umm: which bir that remains TODAY can we put our faith in?
  4. yes the kartarpuri bir does have ragmalla and this is an important reason why i believe in ragmalla. mkhalsa, which old bir do u put ur faith in as being hte original? there are sigatures of guru arjun in many places in kartarpuri bir. also the way its been written (many gaps due to method of writing in raags) also tells us its likely to be the original. remember that it was teh gurus scribes not the gurus who actually physically wrote the granth. bhai gurdas was only human afta all.
  5. undergroundsikhi dont chat breeze, ull just get slapped up if u think that all akjers (and all teh others) who do saas giraas naamjaap are doing it like a machine then no offence bt ur a fool wotever jatha u are u can still have the same love for god, neither naamdharis nor radhaswamis use saas giraas. check ur facts
  6. if u still want it, pm me and ill send u a little guide made in paint. o and the ear thing, just do it really tight for a few days, then your ears get used to it. unless u do it really loose over ur ears, and in that case the dumalla is looser, plus the ear bits slip up over the day.
  7. there was something called the sarbat khalsa rehat maryada that was approved by the entire panth. but then the sgpc changed it a lil bit to allow meat, amongst other things. i think the nitnem according to the sgpc is much shorter too.
  8. .......70s style clothin? wot u mean?
  9. o rite i c where ur coming from with amritvela theres no 2 ways around it, either u did it or u didnt with bibek theres loads of different levels, the bottom ones are pretty easy but once u get to the strictest level, which means tracing your food back so it is not even remotely jooth (which is virtually impossible in western society) it is definately solid i usually dont eat out but have done on some occassions :umm: and eating from amritdharis only isnt 2 hard so in that sense bibek is sortov easier.....unless u are talking about the most strict form of bibek.......
  10. mkhalsa.......this is probably the only time ive ever disagreed with u lol bt im probably wrong once u get into a real routine of amritvela it will be ok (ive only done it for week stretches myself).......but sarbloh bibek is like the hardest of the hard.......imagine if u were sarbloh bibeki......in the morning you wake up.....go to the fridge...wait a minute......cant have milk.....need to milk the cow urself (what if u havent got a cow?)......the cereal is jooth......so u think of having fruit insted.....now ideally u shud grow ur own fruit n it shud only b handled by gursikhs etc......so if u are following real bibek u cant even have supermarket fruit!.....go to the tap for some water.......but even then the water is a bit jooth.......i know singhs who get their water straight from a spring....... im not saying bibeki singhs are better than non bibeki singhs....but it takes HUUUUUUGE amounts of self discipline to do that...maybe its easier in india, but my entire lifestyle/diet would have to change for bibek....whilst amritvela i could sortov slot into my daily routine...... having said that, i hve heard that amritvela is much more profound on the mind than bibek (not putting bibek down, iv heard that at a high spiritual level, amritvela is the time where one gets huuuuge amounts of raas from paath) so i guess it cud b argued eitha way..... im not going to touch bibek till i move to india really......but my aim for now is to get into a nitnem routine then go back to doing amritvela daily.......and every day i need to do more naamjaap!
  11. bravekhalsa...........whateva ur sayin.....u shudnt say "they are not strict"......cuz by definition a true member of the panj is strict.......... if they are sarbloh bibeki then they are obviously doing naamjaap 24/7, never missing amritvela, and definately 100percent gurmukhs, because i think its virtually impossible to keep full bibek unless u are a maha gursikh........
  12. theres a quote on the lines of the lord made nectar and poison in equal amounts. he gives us as much as he pleases.god made everything. does that mean everything is good? would u knowingly take the poison? no, we dont wear red or green because a) the two colours create and unfavourable mental balance (ever noticed why hospitals are always light colour eg light blue - they relax u whilst most food is a shade of red because it appetises you...... and B) because khalsa uniform is made up of certain colours and red and green are NOT in it. why wear a kara? you can go on as much as you like about how it chains ur hand to god or reminds you to be good, or whatever, but the bottom line is YOU WEAR A KARA because guru said so and it is part of the khalsa uniform.......in the same way, blue, white, orange, black are khalsa uniform colours. u dont walk into school busting jeans and a hooded top when everyone else wears a suit...do u? if guruji said dont wear it cuz hindus wear it, wud u not accept gurujis hukam? the difference between me and u is that once im sure guruji said it, i have blind faith in it. if i have doubts guru ji said it, then i research it. call me stoopid, but guruji knows better than me......who am i to try n question him?heres a nice quote from the taksali rehat: The Four Colours of the Khalsa: Blue, Black, White and Saffron These four colours are to be worn. Other colours excite the mind and lure it to vices, and are therefore prohibited. Amritdhari Singhs/Singhni's are specifically not to wear red or green at anytime. One is to dress humbly, any simple colours can be worn. Amritdhari women are not to wear ear rings, nose-rings, rings, bangles, nail polish, lipstick, bindi, henna, keeping long nails, wearing a saree etc. Piercing of any kind is prohibited. there is not a single gurmukh i have seen who has disagreed with this rehat. pretty much all akj, taksal, nihung, whatever, NONE wear red or green. they all wear predominantly black, white, orange or blue. 9th guru sacrificed his head for religious freedom. i dont wear green or red because the guru told me not to. waheguru waheguru
  13. lol @ "basically you are a <admin-cut>"
  14. someones being a bit of a spaz. didnt u read what i said: "oh and just a general point......if there is a point of contention over the rehat.....the **Stoopidest** thing u can do is insult it or call it silly.....because if it turns out it was valid or authentic.......then its gonna be REALLY bad karma considering that rehat is more important than a sikh to guruji....... " if you dont agree with it, its REALLY not clever to slander it and say its nonsense.........its for ur own benefit! be logical if u want....bt dnt diss it.....
  15. WJKK WJKF everyone has an objective before writing an essay. it would be silly to claim someone is totally neutral, then writes their essay, totally balanced for and against, and suddenly goes "oh, now ive finished, ill read my own essay, and ive decided that i believe x now"where has the author tried to pass it off as a research paper? its a very simply written essay. you are assuming it is a research paper, why? :D theres no evidence its meant to be a research paper. i would class it as a few reasons, some of which scientifically based, which show why sikhs shoul d keep kesh? considering humans evolved from apes, and apes have no capacity to realise spirituality whilst humans do, it would be incredibly stupid not to bring spirituality into it. if you explored your inner mind a little more you would realise that half our purpose in life relates to spirituality. can u refute parts which all ill-researched then? :umm: i couldnt care less what political persuasions you are under. you find it ascetically pleasing - why??? because society has deemed it to be ascetically pleasing. for a supposedly clever person your not very introspective, nor do u appear to be thinking at all. in olden days it was considered more appealing for a woman to be tubby and white, now it is considered more appealing for a woman to be skinny and tanned. that is because society determines what we believe, regardless of whether you are a commie or a right wing person. as i said before, it would be silly not to, considering that our main purpose in life is to explore spirituality. maybe for you, its just to eat, sleep and fulfill worldly desires - if so, thats good for you. but you will have to open your mind *momentarily* and have a look at hte concept of spirituality and how it links with humans. sorry but i am talking as to EXACTLY why metallic bonding works.....i have talked to PHD chemists and they admit.....no one knows! i am not talking about a school-standard explanation of metallic bonding. i am talking about exactly why. and unfortu nately you wont find an answer until a scientist discovers it. just like people such as dr ian stevenson are "discovering" how reincarnation might be possible. again, if you had a fundamental knowledge of chemistry, which even i barely have, it would be obvious to you that no one knows why! if you dont believe me, talk to some real chemists. Again, I will reiterate, this is a discussion on hair in the context of evolution (if I am not mistaken) please stay on topic. i think its appropriate actually. dont u want to broaden discussion :umm: so through millions of years of evolution, survival of the fittest organisms, passing their genes on to perfect the genetic make up of a person, a fat clump of hair has randomly dropped off the chin of a man and huge amount of hair has grown of the hair of men and women to serve aesthetic purposes???????? thats a very very weak explanation. i expected better.
  16. oh and just a general point......if there is a point of contention over the rehat.....the **Stoopidest** thing u can do is insult it or call it silly.....because if it turns out it was valid or authentic.......then its gonna be REALLY bad karma considering that rehat is more important than a sikh to guruji.......
  17. sum1 needs to post some rehatnamas.......its nt good 2 call the rehat brahminical......i have heard references 2 colour bt cant remember where..... i dont have any red clothes. and i havent really got any green clothes......mayb1 r 2 that ive forgotten about........reds a stoopid colour anyway :umm: i dnt really like wearing a white keski or phug cuz it just feels a bit naamdhari lol my keski is pretty much always blue (orange when i run out of clean 1s) cuz it is specifically stated the keski must be blue....

  22. yep they r akj........but thats pretty much all i know :umm:......it being a gangstah place to take amrit is all i need 2 no :umm:
  23. dearest penji dorothy, firstly please refrain from calling any article a "sham". dr birendra kaur spent alot of time on that essay, whether you agree with it or not does not give you the right to make fun of other peoples work. you took one line out of context from that passage, please refute all the other points made by bindendra kaur. because a piece is not written by a well know scientist does that make its work invalid? if so, then how can a scientist become well known if his work is nullified the moment it is published? can u please tell me why you cut your hair? does it not seem ritualistic and silly to go through the pain of waxing, shaving, plucking, pulling, and whatever else to conform with what society has brainwashed you with? if anything, you should be providing some kind of evidence to show why we should mutilate our body from its original form. apes do not have large growths of hair under their chin if male or on their hair. only humans have this. the human is the only organism capable of meditation and the hair functions to protect and enhance the dasam duar. you may see the concept of the dasam duar as silly, but if i ask you why helium behaves strangely at near 0 kelvin can you scientifically tell me? what about if i ask about EXACTLY why metallic bonding works in metals? the fact is scientists dont know. science is still evolving and is by no means perfect. most yogis keep a jurra (uncut topknot) on their hair to aid meditation. interestingly studies into meditation shows it calms the mind, relaxes the body, makes people content and happy, and even strengthens the immune system in some cases. those who have a stron g belief in sikhi will ask themselves, not why do we keep our hair, but why do we cut our hair?
  24. cuz the singhs are madly strict. o and theres some bibeksar sahib rensavae keertan on ikirtan.com
  25. start nice. be receptive. then ask questions. and let them get more agressive....... :umm: eg a baby is born deaf and dumb and in pain....why? how can an "infinitaly merciful" god send someone to an infinite punishment beyond hte grave.....this would suggest an infinitely evil god the original scriptures of hte bible are not around.....oldest is dead sea scrolls......and those are a few hundreds years late, so how do we know they are real why dont xtians have spiritual powers to show their spiritual progress why is adam and eve theory universally refuted etc etc
