    Forgiveness

HSH , We are human and we make mistakes and we make them all the time and we will keep making them until we die, this is what we do. The fact that you have acknowledged your mistakes is a good thing. So what to do next. 1. At amritwella do ardass/benti and list all your mistakes to your Guru. Say them out loud (make sure no one else is listening or you will be in deep dodo) Guru Ji already knows your misdemeanours so there is no shame. After each mistake ask for forgiveness. 2. When all done do jakara and mutha take to charan of Guru Gobind Singh Ji 3. Your mistakes have been forgiven, that is how merciful our Guru Ji is. 4. Do not go into guilt. Move on. You have been forgiven now love your Guru. 5. Make it a part of your ardaas to ask forgiveness of all the mistakes made in the past 24 hours. Once the errors have been forgiven they do not get on your register, if not forgiven then come the day you have to face Dharam Raj then your register will be open and you have to account for all your actions, so best get them forgiven now ! 6. Be happy and stay in chardi kalla, Guru Ji has given you a wonderful janam so be happy and do your naam simran.
  2. Apologies if I sounded snappy, getting old :-( Where does the Guru reside? In the sangat. Sangat is Guru roop. So would we expect Guru Ji to stand in line, pick up a thali and choose which sabzi/dhall etc to get and then find a place to sit? No, we would very respectfully sit Guru Ji down in pangat place thali in front and serve Guru Ji and then pick up the thali after wards. So we should do the same for the sangat, as the sangat is Guru roop. I hear your frustrations, I know its difficult but the committee needs to be made aware of the service and ways to improve it. It may need a jatha of people to take control and organise the langar, get the youth involved.
  3. Why should the Gurdwaras pander to these 'busy' people? The langar is not a cafeteria, it is not where you go pick your thali and chose your food and go sit at a table and eat. Sangat and pangat, that is what Guru Sahib Ji started, are these 'busy' people bigger then the Guru? Do they know more then the Guru? While you sit and wait for your roti or sabzi maybe your should take the time to contemplate the meaning of langar. If you cannot even wait five minutes to be served in the langar then maybe you should think about going someplace else.
  4. Benji, When you took amrit did the the panj piaray not say to refrain fromm meat/eggs/fish/alcohol? Then why veer from the maryadha you were given? Did you not know that a veggie diet was on the cards? So now you have violated your amrit willingly so need to present yourself to the panj piaray. I would stay away from this guy you have met, he has drowned and he will drag you down as well. If he is a 'Sikh' of Guru Nanak then does he not know that there is no difference between Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji? That the jyote was the same that the mission stated by Guru Nanak was completed by the tenth Nanak Guru Gobind Singh Ji?
  5. Bhaji, to be honest I was making a general of removing Guru Ji from places other than Gurdwaras I didn’t read the article in question. Of course any direct beadbi of Guru Sahib Ji should be taken extremely seriously. When we get avasta we can see that everything is connected. In the cosmos, in the family, in the people we intact with, with the people we pass by on the street we are all connected and akaal resides within all. Who are we so say who is showing the greater beadbi? Who is showing the greater sharda? I have met Hindus in India who have the greatest piyar for Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Yet if one was to look at them we would shake our heads in disgust, “these lallay got piyar for Guru Ji ??? “ Yet we create great beadbi in Guru Ji’s haroozi and just brush it under the carpet, "Oh these things happen." Satch kahoo sun layho sabhay, jin PREM keeo tin he prabh payoo. PIYAR is the greatest virtue, within piyar, prem bhagti, one will find Akaal. Was it not a sevak of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji who took bites out of each fruit before putting them in the basket and presented them to Guru Ji out of total love? It would be us FOOLS who would call this great beadbi, the same thing happened to Raam Ji, but I had better not mention them as a mere mention of anything Hindu seems to cause most Sikhs so come out in a fever. Guru-they-piyario we are all the same, there is no outsider. Was it Bhagat Namdev Ji who found a black dog running off with his roti. We of course would call it great beadbi when Bhagat Ji ran after it with the ghee, “Prabhoo why have you taken the roti but not the ghee?” Bhagat ji shouted because he saw Akaal in everything. Thakur koe isnaan karo. . . . . Bhagat Ji says we want Thakur to do isnaan but there are 42 lakh joon living in the jall, how can the jall / water be pure ? I stick by my original point, we need to expand Sikhi and show adhav and satkaar of Guru Ji, Guru Ji is not ours He is of the whole jagat, we are the ones who are full of ego if we think only we show satkaar to Guru Ji. Guru Ji looks after us not the other way. But you are right, I do have no sharda, may Guru Ji take pity on my soul.
  6. How much satkar do we give Guru Sahib Ji in our Gurdwaras? When anand karaj takes place in Guru Ji’s hazoori how much beadbi do we do? Take the way we dress, take the way we totally ignore Guru throughout the ceremony and take the way the photographers and video makers scuttle about trying to get the best shot with total disregard to Guru Ji. We have people sitting on benches in front of Guru Ji, is this not beadbi? Big arguments in front of Guru Ji happen all the time with total disregard to Guru Ji, then these escalate to full blown fights with people running around with kirpans, where is the satkar of Guru Ji then? Yet we will charge into any Mandir grab saroop of Guru Sahib Ji in the name of beadbi. Would it not be wise to sit down with the mandir leaders and show them how to do satkar, show them rehat maryadha. Why are we shrinking Sikhi ourselves ?
  7. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is for everyone, the message is universal. In the olden days, not so long ago in fact, Hindus used to come to the Gurdwara and the mulsims used to go to the Gurdwara and there was a togetherness that we just do not find these days. They did sewa in the Gurdwaras and did satkar of Guru Ji. But over the years we have showed great animosity to the local communities so much so that these days you will never find any Hindus or Muslims at Gurdwaras anymore. We ourselves have made Sikhi so small, we have shrunk it just to the Gurdwaras, and what a great job we are making of the Gurdwaras :-( We go into any place where we hear of saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, instead of showing them how to do proper satkaar or Guru Ji, instead of showing them the rehat maryadha so that they can do true sewa of Guru Ji and that Guru Ji's message is cherished and spread by all to the whole world we instead create great hoo-ha and bring Saroop back to Gurdwara.
  8. Thanks bhaji. Any idea about the Zeon corporation add-on that the web page wants to run first ?
  9. Is there Saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji on line. One which has image of each ang so can read without all the hindi/English translations etc. Just each ang as in saroop? Tried downloading pdf's but have to down load addon's from Zero Corporation or something.
  10. You are truly blessed SabreRider, many Sikhs spend their whole lives in the presence of Guru Ji but do not recognise them. You have take your step towards Guru Ji and He will take 'Kote' steps towards you, with open arms. Your Amrit is the first step, now live the life of a son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.
  11. The platform is the mind with a jiyote on it. Time is running out and in the distance there are the five who should be occupying the mind - Sat, Santokh, Dhaya, Dharam . . . . but who is in control of the mind? Who is owning the mind ? Kaam, Karodh , Lobh, Moh and Hankaar.

  13. I like your explanation Sikhni777. In physics the famous double slit experiment used a set of single electrons (particles) fired one after the other through 2 slits. The result was an interference pattern which is characteristic of a wave and not a particle. This implied that each single electron would go through both slits; through no slits; through just the left slit and through just the right all at the same time! Quantum field theory explains this by stating that matter is neither a wave nor a particle. It is something more abstract and could be considered as a simultaneous co-existence of all possibilities. This leads to the idea of superposition i.e. all possibilities potentially existing at the same time. Gurbani mentions the idea of superposition as being an intrinsic part of creation and the creator. "You have thousands of eyes, and yet you have no eyes. You have thousands of forms, and yet you do not have even one. You have thousands of lotus feet, and yet you do not have even one foot. You have no nose, but you have thousands of noses. This play of yours entrances me." "He himself is formless, and also formed; the one lord is without attributes, and also with attributes." "At the same time, he is both hidden and revealed. For the spiritually wise, doubt and fear are dispelled." Gurbani also goes further to mention that mind or consciousness and matter are interchangeable and that the spirit of God rests within both. "You yourself are conscious of your creation." "Wherever i look, i see the lord pervading there, in the union of consciousness and matter." "The distinction between mind and matter has been destroyed, and the darkness has been dispelled." "He himself is mind, and he himself is matter." In Sikhism the description of Waheguru is so unique that for many it goes beyond understanding. Many times what may appear as an apparent contradiction is only due to lack of knowledge and correct understanding of Gurmat teachings. Sikhism holds Waheguru as the absolute power, pure truth, the only creator, without fear, without hatred, beyond time and limitless. He is everywhere and nothing is without Him. He is within His creation and beyond. Take sunlight as an example, it is colourless, taking the colours of the rainbow as SarGuna and in which case sunlight as Nirguna as it has none of the rainbow attributes. If this light is passed through a prism, it splits into seven bands and each band has a different colour (SarGuna). If these split light beams are collected and inverted back by suitable optics, they will all merge and again become one colourless beam. Nirguna can become Sarguna and Sarguna can become Nirguna. If it can be done in physics then cannot God do this also? With this example one can see that Nirguna has all the Gunas or qualities in it. So if in Gurbani one finds the concepts of Nirguna and Sarguna, it appears all the same. The summation of all the Gunas is equal to Nirguna. In other words out of the Nirguna all the Gunas originate. Karta Purakh has all the Gunas, but there is no need for Karta Purakh to show them off, Karta Purakh remains in Nirguna state. Sikhs openly accept this concept of Sargun Nirgun to be true since every word of Gurbani is directly revealed from Waheguru. Therefore, God is Nirgun and Sargun. saragun niragun nira(n)kaar su(n)n samaadhheeaap || He possesses all qualities; He transcends all qualities; He is the Formless Lord. He Himself is in Primal Samaadhi. (Ang 290) niragun aap saragun bhee ouhee || He Himself is absolute and unrelated; He Himself is also involved and related. (Ang 287) raaj joban prabh thoo(n) dhhanee || thoo(n) niragun thoo(n) saragunee ||2|| O God, You are my power, authority and youth. You are absolute, without attributes, and also related, with the most sublime attributes. ||2|| (Ang 211) nira(n)kaar aakaar aap niragun saragun eaek || He Himself is formless, and also formed; the One Lord is without attributes, and also with attributes. (Ang 250) At the beginning of time God was all pervading and was only Nirgun as there existed nothing but Him. Then He created the entire creation i.e. solar systems, galaxies, planets, life forms, humans etc. In other words, anything to everything originated from God. From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1|| (Ang 1349)
  14. It is a very simple belief but fraught with difficulty and one can waiver from the path without even knowing it, that is to believe in the ONE. Dass Patshahia but the saroop is One. Choose whichever sarooop you are most in piyar with, be it Guru Nanak Dev Ji or Guru Gobind Singh Ji or any of the ten Gurus, believe and love that saroop like your own father, more than your father. Sometimes thoughts may arise that I am remembering Guru Gobind Singh Ji, what about Guu Nanak dev Ji ? Then you are moving into maya, into illusion, you are regarding them as different, but they are One. So bring your thoughts back, remember the One. If you remember Guru Goding Singh Ji or say, Guru Arjan Dev Ji that all dass patshahia will come for they are the same jyote. Some remember devis and devtay but they are not mukhat themselves how can then give you mukhti? You remember a devi/devta then you will end up in his/her puri you will not get any further. Those Hindus who remembered or did aradhana of the One made it to mukhti. The Bhatts whose bani is in Guru Granth Sahib Ji scoured the land, found many sanyasi, pandits, tantrics but their mind was still on fire. They then heard of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and that on the Gurgudhi was fifth Patshah Guru Arjan Dev Ji as soon as they saw the wondrous vision their minds became cool and still. They did aradhana of the One and became mukhat. Raja Janak, Vyaas Rikhi, Dharoo and Parlaad all believed in only the One and became mukhat. Remember the One, remember Guru Gobind Singh Ji and you are remembering the Almighty who pervades throughout the universe who is ‘enakh’ in His forms YET He is one, He is nirgun and sargun at the same time. When you leave this world then we each make our own way to the court of Dharam Raj. Some will have to walk alone through nightmare landscapes naked and hot, some will have jamdhoot come for them, they will put you in chains and cart you off, some will find there is no way forward and are stuck here or along the way. Blessed are those who find Shaheed Singh/Singhnia waiting for them on the other side, blessed are those who have Sant Mahapursh waiting for them on the other side and words cannot describe for those who have Guru Sahib Ji waiting for them.
  15. If you can go to the Gurdwara, take parshaad - Fruit or sukka parshaad, payta £11 and do adraas. Forsake all and pledge your allegiance to Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Make pledge that you believe in the Ten Gurus and non other. Do jackara. You are now a Sikh. Start by refraining from cutting hair, start nitname - Japji Sahib. Simran of Waheguru. Abstain from meat/fish/eggs/alcohol. You are on your way.
  16. Maybe my English is not that good, this is not what I am saying. It matters not to me how much anyone eats in langar. Maybe someones langar was a bad example, I try not to not look down on anyone, eat as much as you like whenever you like in langar, it is all Gurus and He gives to all. What is am saying is don't look at another person plate, look at your own. It is just that sometimes things need to be highlighted because they never occur to you and when they are pointed out it’s like "Oh yeah it never occurred to me", that is all. Someone once asked me “Where does God reside?” I said “Within all of us” he asked “then when was the last time you did internal nimaskaar to the One who resides within you?” I was like “well it never occurred to me”. Sometimes things stare you in the face but they need pointing out and you can reap the benefit. If you are doing heavy sewa and you need your fill then by all means go ahead and have as much langar as you like, have seconds, have thirds it is all Gurus kirpa. But if you want to ‘KHAT’ something, if you want to take home some good deeds that you have earned then maybe think again.
  17. Have you ever noticed people who go to the Gurdwara and they have been going to the Gurdwara for years yet they are the same now as they were years ago. Nothing has changed in their lives they come to the Gurdwara do mutha-take, listen and go home. Some come to the Gurdwara, they even do sewa in the langar hall or elsewhere, for years, yet they remain the same. Why has meeting the sangat or doing sewa of the sangat not affected their lives? Why are they the same now as they were years ago? Why has all that bani all that sewa not had an effect on their soul? Because it goes in one ear and out the other. They have not made a conscious effort to follow Guru’s path, they have not made a conscious effort to make changes in their lives to move closer to Guru Ji. To them going to the Gurdwara is just something you do on a Sunday and maybe meet friends and relatives. Even doing sewa has not the motive it should have. Rather than thinking that sewa to the sangat is sewa to the Guru, that sewa brings nimarta and humbleness, that sewa washes away your paap, that sewa is a form of bhagati and through it one moves closer to your Guru, instead it is more of a social thing and as such it does not bring about the changes within oneself that it should. One example contrary to this, at Soho road Gurdwara there is a man who on weekends cleans the toilets. He cleans the bowls and the sinks and mops the floor and replenishes the toilet rolls and the soap. When I first saw him he was clean shaven, now years later he is keshdhari. Well done that man, I say. Your humbleness in cleaning the toilets (who amongst us would do this on a regular basis) has been seen and blessed by AkaalPurkh Guru Ji so positive changes have come into his life. Apart from this person, I see the same faces week in week out, some come just for the langar and go home with full bellies. Some come and do sewa but then partake in langar and all that pun-dhaan built up is cancelled out, they go home with nothing it all balances out. We want to increase our punn/good deeds but if we write them off by eating all that langar then it all balances out. If you are doing sewa then for that day why not abstain from langar, at least go home with something in your karmic account. I have seen sewadhars who do sewa and then sit down to double helpings of saag with extra adhakar/ginger and makkhi rotis with two full glasses of lassi. I am not criticising them in the least, it is Gurughar and it is Guru-ka-langar and they can eat as much as they like, however this is not what Guru-ka-langar is all about. So make those changes, little ones, ones that you can cope with and progress in your life. Do sewa, very important, but make sure you take something home with you spiritual wise.
  18. Try this, think of the person you hate the most or the person who hates you the most. Now close your eyes and in your mind say "<Name of person>, Guru Nanak Dev Ji tay-ra bhulla karay" do this every day for a week. This kills your hate, that bitterness, that negativity you have for this person starts to dissipate. Guru Ji also blesses you. It is easy to say good things about the people we love but very hard to say positive things about those we hate. We then start to mold our mind away from negativity towards people and not only do we feel better but our Mann gets proper chittar, because he is the one who takes us down the wrong road. Little changes make a difference, little changes we can manage in this hectic world. So make those little changes do not stay stationary make those changes. Make changes about naam and simran. One day do meditation on "nothing" clear your mind, the next day try 5 mallas of Waheguru, the next try 5 chaupai sahibs, the next just repeat Dhan Guru Nanak, Dhan Guru Nanak. Make that change.
  19. Our body is like a temple and we need to keep it clean outside and in. Outside, because it houses our soul and if it does not function properly then we cannot concentrate on our soul. So set goals for your body: Lose weight; we can all do with losing a little weight. Eat more greens. The deeper the vegetable colours are the better they are for the body, full of antioxidants. Deep breathing exercises, good for calming the nerves and prepares the body for meditation. Set goals for the soul: This is our main goal everything else is peripheral. Set goal to get up amritwella. Set goal to recite daily the panj banies. Set goal to mentally do mutha-take of jyote of AkaalPurkh that resides within you. Set goal to recite mool mantra whenever you are cooking or making a sandwich or making a cup of tea. Think about what you are good at, if you doodle on pieces of paper then try taking up drawing. Do you have an eye for a good picture then try photography. Be creative , open your mind, be happy and keep Guru Jis name on your lips at all time.
