GuruFateh! Veer Ji, I would recommend that you take up Gatka. It will instill discipline into you more than any of the other martial arts. Also, Gatka is a religous art and without the spiritual side of Gatka, it will mean nothing. A friend of mine went (a few months ago) to a martial arts exhibition show where they had the various martial arts i.e. karate, tae-kwon-do, kick-boxing, kendo etc. However, everyone at that exhibition was amazed by the performance put on by the Gatka students as they used swords, lattiah etc with great effect. Even the Sensei's of the other arts were amazed, therefore, the greatness of the art Of gatka was revealed! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

GuruFateh! I also play the tabla. A good way to strengthen the hands is to (might sound a bit stupid but it works) position your knees as you would position the tabla and practice on your knees. As your knees are harder than the tabla skins, your hands will become accustomed to playing. Also the more you practice, the stronger your hands and fingers will become. Playing the tabla effectively comes with time. Don't expect to be able to play perfectly in a short space of time. I've been playing the dholki for about 8-10 years and the tabla for about 6 and I still have a few things to master! The tabla is so perfect in accompaniment to singing Shabad's. Hope this helps you! If I have offended you I am truly sorry. However, as Guru Nanak said 'There are many paths but all are for the same goal.' As I have stated previously, that is what I am arguing about. If you are born into the Catholic faith (or any other faith for that matter) if you delve into that faith fully, you will find enlightenment as all paths will take you to the same goal. That's the point I was trying to make. Typing a post on here is different to actually talking face to face with someone so if I have offended Shanti and anyone else, accept my apologies. As stated in the Guru Nanak's quote, that is why I feel it is wrong to change/convert your faith. And as I stated in my original post, it is upto us as Sikhs to educate our youth and others who's faith is not strong and do not know about their religion. So to whoever stated that loads of people are all talk and no action, I am one of those who talks and takes action! I have already changed the opinions of many people in my own family who were following a distorted form of Sikhi and I strive to educate anyone who is willing to learn! Maybe I didn't explain it clearly in my initial post. You get some people that convert to other religions under the pretext that it will help them get closer to God but these people are the same ones who can't be bothered to learn about their own religion first. I have seen this first-hand in my family. There are people who have converted to the Christian faith but knew nothing or hardly nothing about their previous faith. These are the people I am commenting about. In reply to Pheena, I do consider it wrong if Christians/Muslims convert to Sikhi ONLY if they have not learned their own religion first. If they do not find enlightenment in their religion but find it in another, fair enough but not if you can't be bothered to learn. Anyway, the point of this topic was about muslims who go out with the intent to befriend Sikh and Hindu girls and slowly brainwash them into accepting Islam as their religion. That is FORCEFUL conversion. That was the point of this topic and what we as Sikhs can and should do about it but it looks like people are more bothered about petty arguemnets rather than tackling the issue at hand! GuruFateh! I visited www.whyichosesikhism.com yesterday and was shocked at some of the literature spewed out by muslims regarding faith conversion. These people make leaflets and hand them out to their youth with quotes from the Koran regarding the impure infidels and that only followers of Islam are pure. These leaflets outline conversion tactics that the muslims youths can employ to succesfully convert people. I feel that the onus is on us to educate our youth about our religion and history. A lot of our people do not do this. Gurudwaras should hold more classes where the youth of today can go and learn in-depth about our religion. I feel that once you know sufficient amounts of Sikhi, no-one would even consider conversion as their own faith would be too strong. On a final word, converting to another faith is wrong in the eyes of God. Let me explain: I was born into a Sikh family. This was through the will of God. If he intended me to be born into a Muslim/Christian/Jewish etc. family, I would have been but I wasn't. God intended me to follow the Sikh faith and that is what I shall do. If I follow another faith, I am going against the will of God. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

GuruFateh! I have heard from certain elders that a Mother can not see her son's Laava take place in the Anand Karaj. I have also been at weddings where this practice has occured. I would like to know people's view on this. Personally, I find it wrong. The Laava are a very religous ceremony so why can't the mother see something that special? I was told this by my uncle who owns an off-licence. A giani from the local Gurudwara came in and asked for a small bottle of whisky. My uncle questioned him on this and the gianni replied that "he is a besharam banda" and then said that he can't live without alcohol. I argued with my uncle about this matter and said that he should have refused to sell him the whisky. However, if the Gianni said that he can't live without alcohol, why take amrit and become an amritdhari? Why become a Gianni and read the Guru Granth and preach to others on how they should lead their lives in accordance with Sikhi? These so-called gianni's should cut their beards and hair and take off their kirpans etc. as they are not fit to wear them and in so wearing them are blackening the name of Sikhi! I always say that Amrit is an extremely holy thing and when one takes amrit, he/she should know deep down inside if they can lead their life in accordance with Sikhi. It's people like this who have got embroiled in "man's" law. These sort of people say that someone's weeding will be ruined. In this day and age, everyone is bothered about pleasing their parents, brothers, sisters and family but has anyone bothered about thinking of how they please the ultimate Creator, Waheguru? I say what's wrong is wrong end of story. It's wrong to take the Guru Granth into places where there is alcohol as this goes against the teachings of Sikhi. Many Singhs and Singhni's have given their lives to protect their Dharam but narrow minded people forget this. Just listen to the Ardass carefully next time and you will hear about the Sikhs who have died for their faith. "If by following one's religion fully makes one a fanatic, then a fanatic I am." It is a contradiction. Mehtab Singh asks "Are we the equivalent of Guruji?" The Guru's are called Guru's as they taught us a way of life. The way we should lead our life in accordance with Waheguru. Don't forget the ultimate being is not any of the Guru's but Waheguru. The Guru's were his messengers. Many people come to the Gurudwara and be on their best behaviour etc. But once they leave, they will be back to normal and do wrong things. Do they think that Waheguru is only present in the Gurudwara? Have respect for Waheguru everywhere, not just in the Gurudwara, hence me saying that pointing your feet at the Guru Granth is not wrong. I don't understand why Amritdharees drink alcohol. If you can't give up alcohol or wanna continue drinking, why take Amrit? I've never come across this in the Granth or have not heard anyone back up their claim with a quote from the Guru Granth. So in light of this, I don't see a problem because menstruation is a natural process, which was the creation of Waheguru. It is with this process that a child is born so I do not understand why its classed as wrong. However, if I am wrong, I am sorry. Could someone back up their claim with a quote?
